A $1000 quote from Pep Boys turned into $550 with a phone call to Mike. Great experience! I called and the owner answered the phone. He took me as a walk-in, looked at my car, made an accurate diagnosis, and came back with a quote which was half of what I expected for a water pump replacement. Then he said he would have the car ready the same day, even though it looked like he was pretty busy. He gave me the disclaimer that he may run into other problems that needed fixing, and I thought that's where it would get expensive, but when I came to get my car he charged me the quoted price, just for water pump, coolant, and labor. The radiator began leaking on my son's older Kia Sportage. I searched Yelp and found Standard Radiator. After reading the favorable reviews I decided to give them a try. I spoke with Mike about my issue in general and he correctly diagnosed the problem before he even popped the hood. Everything he mentioned I had already observed. He called around and had a little difficulty locating a replacement radiator. He told me, "I can get one today but it is more expensive and with a shorter warranty than I usually can find. If you give me another day I can probably get one cheaper with the better warranty." That is the sign of an honest mechanic who is looking out for the customer, not just his bottom line. I left the car with Mike and the job was completed the next day as promised. I was so impressed I left my Corolla with him to fix a wheel bearing problem I new needed replacing. He got on his computer and showed me several options for the replacement bearing and made his recommendation. He completed the job quickly and it was 1/4 the price I was quoted by the dealer and 1/2 the price I was quoted by a local competitor. Needed to get a clutch kit installed on my G35 and was calling a few local shops for quotes, most wanted to charge 500 to 550 and a shop even quoted me 650 lol. They quoted me 350 so I was a little skeptical but having a family member that knows about cars and referred me here I decided to take it in. I knew about the parts I brought and what the install consisted of and not once did I feel like they would try and take advantage of the customer. Mike was super helpful throughout the whole process and only charged me 300 for the clutch and flywheel install. They did a great job and car runs perfect!
