I had my catolitic converter stolen off my Toyota and was In need of an honest mechanic asap and I alway kept in mind the time my wife took her car into J&l auto care and we hand no idea what the loud noise comming from the engine was, j&l called and reported it was just a very minor issue and I they said they tightened the loose bolt I belive, I very much appreciated their honesty and made a note to go directly to them if we had any future problems , well I went to them and they got my new cat converter on within two days and I was back in my car and from other people I talked to it sounds like they gave me a much less painfull price than they paid, they didnt install an aftermarket cat and beat the price of the part alone from O'Reilly auto parts quote, they really made it as painless as possible and peace of mind , my dash cam had came loose from the IE summer heat and was hanging as I dropped off my car, when I got the car back they had secured dash cam also AAA customer service all around, I will refer everyone to J&L auto care to anyone I know , thanks John and crew for excellent job guys thank you for being good people read more

I always took my car to the dealer and recently they had a huge list of things wrong with my 16 yr old car. I needed a different mechanic and one close to home. I found J & L on yelp and took my car in. They were honest and fixed my car quickly and at a reasonable price. I found out my neighbor had been going there for years! I did learn that they only take cash or credit card and they charge a surcharge for credit cards. I don't like paying extra for things so next time I would use cash. read more

I recently experienced a devasting reality with my 2014 F350 diesel truck, and they were so honest and willing to sit and talk options with me. Some mechanics would just tell a female that we can fix it for $11,000 and not tell me the risks involved in doing so, but John said, "I honestly wouldn't put the money into it." Huge shout out to J&L and their crew!!! I had a problem with my truck, which I use for work on a daily basis. After I called around trying to find help immediately and with my luck every Mechanic was busy for the next 5-7 days. J&L also being busy said they would do what they could to make room. After dropping off the truck and expecting it to take a few days, while I was there explaining what was going wrong, Theo had to go and take a look at it for himself after I left... Got a catastrophic car/engine code on the road locally. The tow company took me to some place and I did not like the double diagnostic fee and "free wiper blades". Red flag fluff. I then got towed to the place that I really wanted. J&L. Got there and John gave me some assurances on why the low idle was protecting the engine. Eased my mind. They checked it out (his son Theo). He repaired it with a deep dive in effort. The deal was/is square and really fair. They made money and I saved money. I thought the car was done. They saved it, and saved me money. Mountain View was terrible in the past even for a oil change. They stare you down to try and intimidate. No games like that at J&L. Theo called me fast when the car was done. Runs smooth like when I drove it off the car dealer in 2009 (Toyota). You HAVE to go to J&L if you want a deal, and be treated like a human being. Saved compared to the dealer. They (J&L) have overhead and expenses so they have to charge, but they don't rake you over the coals like other places. Really a square deal -- that is all I wanted, and J&L delivered big time. Awesome service and honest advice!! I took my Camry here to have the transmission looked at. The mechanic looked it over and said he hadn't found anything wrong with it. He recommended waiting to see if the car acted up again and to bring it back to their shop if it happens again. Asked to have them plug in their machine to check what the check engine light was about. And the guy behind the counter didn't want to do it, instead he told me to head to auto zone that they do that for free. Keep in mind this was early in the morning and they weren't busy. These guys are just THE BEST - finding a kind, friendly, competent place to take your car in the area is suspect at best. A few months after we moved to Chino Hills, we were in an unfortunate accident and after the body work, the body shop sent us to J & L for a maintenance check. We had an amazing family owned auto shop in Seattle (Autosys) for over 26 years - when my work moved us to Chino Hills, one of the biggest stress factors was finding a trustworthy, family owned shop like the one we left behind. In our first few weeks in CA, I had an accident shortly after relocating - a result of trusting the local Firestone's assessment of my brakes after the move from WA state. After the the body shop finished their part, they sent us to J&L for a brake and maintenance check. John and Theo - who are father and son and also the owners - did an excellent job of assessing my car and found that Firestone had missed my rear brakes in their "20 point inspection". They were fast, efficient, compassionate and their prices are fair and competitive. Today, we went in to have a standard oil change and service check on our 2nd car (2019 Mazda 3). We mentioned we needed new batteries for our Mazda remote fobs - without asking, Theo IMMEDIATELY picked up the phone, ordered our batteries and personally replaced them. Who does that anymore? This shop is a whole other level of customer service. While we were waiting, Theo helped an elderly walk in customer who had questions about getting her driver's license renewed - he was not only patient with her, he maintained a respectful, compassionate demeanor even though he had to repeat himself several times. He was warm, kind, and provided outstanding service as if he worked at the DMV himself. He also helped her with an airbag request from a local Toyota dealer - they truly treat EVERYONE like family. Sadly, we have been forced to relocate to Vegas because of COVID-19, but we will ABSOLUTELY and HAPPILY make the trek across the Mojave for all of our car needs - I wouldn't take our cars to anyone else. What can I say about an auto shop that actually didn't try to rip me off? My car's check engine light was on so I took it in to get checked out. After checking the codes the gentleman informed me that this would be a very costly repair. He then did the unbelievable...he told me to go to the dealership because my car should still be under manufacturers warranty, which it was. Long story short, his FREE advice saved me tons of money. This is our second time bringing our vehicles to J&L and each time has been nothing but top notch. The first time was when i needed to bring in my Jaguar for new brakes. Theo searched for the best deal and ensured that we received great service. The second was just recently, I had taken my Infiniti Qx56 to the dealership when the check engine light came on and they diagnosed it as a bad Cat converter that would cost over 2k to fix. I loss power in my vehicle and the engine was running rich. I then took it to J&L and it was actually a bad ECU. I paid to have that replace and my vehicle is driving like new. Two weeks ago, I walked in, apparent owner stares at me says nothing. I asked him about an estimate on a trouble code. He says there's a diagnostic fee. I said ok that's fine. I leave my keys and I asked: "approximately how long will it take?"..... he stares for a couple seconds, laughs, and says "APPROXIMATELY, this same afternoon"... I looked at my girlfriend and I said "did I say something funny or asked something weird?" (I felt he didn't take me as a serious customer, as I look very young, so I've been told. That's my only guess) I felt as if he was talking to child who didn't know what he was talking about. Ok whatever. Couple hours later an employee called me with the diagnostic results. Says I need an air flow sensor replacement and that it'll be $372. I said no thanks. I was shocked! Why ? Because I went to autozone, paid 80 dollars for the sensor. Took off the old one, put the new one, and trouble code fixed. They were gonna charge me 372 dollars to literally unplug and plug an 80 dollar sensor. Not again. read more

Couldn't even get a brake job right. My company pays for maintenance so I Took my truck there for brakes and oil (after three times that took the whole day each time even when I had an appointment) don't think a professional mechanic should take that long to do brakes. And if not that then whoever is doing the scheduling should probably schedule their jobs better. All in all my brakes are still squeaking and They refused a refund. I've been going to this shop for years and it has gone down hill fast after the new owner took over apparently. I've heard numerous complaints and refused to believe them until now. Simple A/C check, turned out to need a new compressor, left car there at 2:00pm was told it would be checked by 5:00pm, they never called me to notify me of any update and had to wait the next morning and they barely started to check my vehicle, needed to replace the compressor, they were first willing to just replace and install the compressor because I was going to just buy the part out then they said they can't and tried to charge me 900+$, rather them just be straight up from the jump then getting blindsided read more

Being a woman I'm always skeptical about going to get ANYTHING done with my car alone because I'm afraid of being lied to or told I need something I don't really need. I've been here about 3 or 4 times now and I'm writing this review following me taking my car to the dealership for a recalibration of the front facing camera (why its on the FRONT of my car, idk. Like, I can see in front of me, the f***.) Anyways, the horrible experience I had at the dealership lit a fire under my ass to write a review on how much I appreciate this small business, how much I appreciate their customer service, and how I will NEVER take my car to the dealership ever again. Theo and the crew were informative on what was going on with my car, with my old car he went out of his way to call my insurance and help me get my them to cover my messed up engine (it was under warranty, but those people will find ANYTHING to not pay for s***), and they would call me nearly every day updating me on what was going on. This last time they turned off the maintenance light for me (my car is new and not even a year old yet), and told me they didn't feel comfortable recalibrating the camera because they didn't want to break it, which I appreciated so much! Little to my knowledge the dealership won't recalibrate it for free cause its not under warranty (even though they told me that it WAS under warranty prior to me even arriving). To be honest, f*** that camera, I don't need it, it's weird it's even there. If you're in the area and are looking for an honest, trustworthy, friendly, family-owned car maintenance shop, do yourself a favor and try J&L. From now on this is my primary maintenance shop.
