This was my first time visiting a Stan's, and the Uptown location is a cute, open space with a ton of natural lighting and extra high ceilings. The vibe was very relaxed, and the staff member working was polite, attentive, and quick. I started with an iced latte with toasted hazelnut and oat milk. Usually, I don't expect too much from coffee at donut shops, but this was surprisingly decent and paired really well with the donuts to cleanse the palate between bites. For the donuts, the Glazed was thick, light, and airy, though the glaze itself was a bit on the watery side. The Strawberry Bismarck was pillowy soft with a healthy dusting of sugar, stuffed generously with a filling that tasted light and luscious. The Boston Cream shared that same pillowy texture with a full chocolate glaze that complemented the custard well, even if the wax paper kept sticking to the top a bit. Finally, the PB&J Pocket was a super dense donut where the peanut butter and jelly flavors were fierce, fighting alongside the heavy dough to completely take over my tastebuds--definitely a messier pick that felt like a whole meal by itself. Solid Stan's donuts location with all the favorites you come to expect. One thing I do like about this location is that it's not super difficult to park by compared to some other locations in the city. The interior is also fairly spacious and comfortable, though I wish there was more than one table with the extra cushioning. Bathrooms are fairly clean and the tables were fairly clean as well. Service is reasonably quick, and prices are a little on the higher side, but not super unusual for the city. The donut quality and selection is about the same as you'd expect from any Stan's donuts -- actually maybe a little fresher overall tasting than some other locations that I've been to. As usual, there's also a few spots that are available for some fun pictures. read more

My husband and I went to Stan's Donuts & Coffee with a friend for an afternoon snack. We ordered the frozen hot chocolate and an apple fritter. The frozen hot chocolate was a great way to cool down on a warm day. The apple fritter tasted fresh and is different than the traditional donut. The water was self-serve. Great place to sit and do work, eat some great treats, and drink some of the most horribly nasty coffee on Earth. And I'm still giving them four stars. The fritter and blueberry donuts were tasty, and the employee couldn't have been nicer, but gosh-darn that was some crappy coffee. It had a wretched aftertaste that even two sugars and a huge amount of cream couldn't alleviate. When I mentioned the aftertaste, one of the employees offered to make me an Americano which solved the problem. read more

Honestly I have a love hate relationship Stan's in general. The prices are crazy but I can't lie, the quality is good. And despite the prices, I seem to keep finding my way back there as my Yelp profile shows three check-ins at this location. This location is pretty cute and clean. There is a lot of natural light coming in through the ceiling to floor windows. The space isn't too large, but there are tables for you to sit at, if you wish. There always seems to be a selection of pastries to select from, which is nice. I love the apple fritters and the glazed cinnamon twists. Not a plan of their cream/jelly filled items, but to fair, I don't do anyone's cream/jelly filled items, just not my thing. The savory pastries are pretty good as well: really like the Spinach/Feta and Le Stanwich. Both make for a nice quick snack. The staff has always been pretty on top of things and very bubbly and pleasant to deal with it as far as taking orders. And just as a fair warning, this is a cashless location, which is not an issue for me as I never have any money on me. But if you are going to stop at this location, bring your card or Google/Samsung/Apple wallet. read more

I suppose my Massachusetts card will soon be revoked (really though, I *do* need to switch over my license.) I ordered a coffee, a Churro donut, and a Boston Cream donut The coffee was nothing to write home about. An A-OK heat and caffeine delivery system (I'm willing to be you've never heard of coffee described this way) The Churro donut was an unexpected scrumptious treat! It had very light crispness, was unbelievably light and airy, and sprinkled with the perfect amount of cinnamon sugar. It wasn't overly sweet, wasn't greasy, and didn't taste like old fat (ie made yesterday). I was even surprised to learn the donuts are not made on site! The Boston Cream (not to be confused with DD's "Boston Kreme") did not blow my mind as much, but this isn't a problem with the donut, more a matter of preference. I will not embarrass myself by trying to guess (invariably incorrectly) which is which, only to say the dough is different. The dough was solid and didn't taste stale. The sweetness came from the chocolate coating and filling. Both were A-OK, except the tissue paper stole most of the chocolate icing! Not many ways around this with fresh frosting, ask me what happened on a hot and humid summer day once! The location is clean, bright, and has ample seating. The service is polite and speedy. Prices are in line with what I would expect. Thus if I find myself in the area, I would 100% stop in again. read more

The coffee is always fresh and the counter is always stocked with a tempting assortment of fresh, scrumptious sweet donuts and savory pastries. And the staff - Happy, efficient and so friendly! First time going to this place and it was so cute as soon as I arrived, the customer service was on point. They were so sweet and they greeted me as soon as I came into the building. The place is super clean and the donuts were full. I noticed a lot that reviews online talked about how they didn't have anything, but I got there early both times probably, I don't know between eight and 10 and they had donuts there was no issue there. I got a half a dozen and I got to see what kind of recommendations they had. the best ones were the gluten-free ones oh my gosh they were so soft and they had amazing flavor. They weren't super filling. They were light and fluffy. I can eat 20 of them. They didn't make you feel bloated, but they just were so good that they fulfill that craving up something delicious. I did not like the chocolate covered with sprinkles. It was too thick and dry. your prices were in bed either. I got a bee from there and I got a drink. You can always ask for extra flavoring if it doesn't taste good enough and they are super sweet about giving you more if you want it so don't be afraid to ask. I like this place so much that I went the next day because I enjoyed it versus going to any other local donuts around. I would absolutely go back skip the bad reviews and just try that yourself. Since this Stan's opened in my neighborhood a few months ago, I have been many times simply because it is convenient. It is easy to grab a box of donuts to bring to a family gathering or pick up some for a co-worker's birthday. I much prefer downstate donuts, but they unfortunately aren't open as early and only on Thu-Sunday. I was at the grand opening for this Stan's- lined up at 4:45 AM for a chance to get a golden donut, and I had high hopes and was happy it was so close by with extensive hours. With all that being said, Stan's only gets 2 stars from me because it is MASSIVELY overpriced for the quality (honestly for the taste, these should be half as much as they are), and they are constantly understaffed with grumpy employees. I used to pre-order assorted half or dozen donuts, but I stopped doing that because they always ripped me off on the selections- it is supposed to come with 2x original, 2x specialty, and 2x doughboy and I always ended up getting an assortment of the bottom of the barrel donuts, both times not getting any of the more expensive dough boy's best that were paid for (which is the reason the assortment is like $22 for a HALF DOZEN). When I've gone in to pick instead, they usually only have two people working, and for some reason, THEY OFFER A FULL BREAKFAST MENU THAT IS ENTIRELY MADE IN A TOASTER OVEN. This completely overwhelms the two people working on any given weekend. People are coming into Stan's to order an $8 breakfast sandwich that goes into a Dunkin-like toaster oven and the poor girl making them looks so stressed and frazzled that I feel seriously second hand uncomfortable. They have not implemented any systems to support only two people working. Each persons order is taken and rung up to completion regardless of what you order. If you're just there for some donuts, you're absolutely going to still wait in line behind the brunch crowd inexplicably ordering breakfast and fancy coffee here, and you're going to wait forever to pay for your donuts. To top it all off, I don't think I even like these donuts. Having had them now many times, I just keep thinking its an off day (although take note the donuts are not baked here, they are shipped in on a truck each morning probably from the burbs made the day before), but in reality I just don't think Stan's makes good donuts. They're always a little bit stale and slightly bland. They should really focus on doing one or two things here- they CANNOT handle donuts, breakfast, AND coffee. They don't have the infrastructure, the space, or the staff. Definitely check out the local places instead if you can (no, Stan's is not local it's incredibly corporate) and I think you'll be less disappointed. I'm done giving them any more money, no matter how convenient the location. read more

Clean, safe and yummy food. Employees are decent and nice. Coffee good. Food is better than Starbucks. Ambiance is vacillating between Truman college students to college professors with their families. The outside sidewalks can be dicey. Check the outside windows before leaving the store. read more

Stan's is Stan's. Slightly below-average donuts and coffee, and OK breakfast items, at an above average price. Consistent and reliable, without the wow factor. This place gets an extra star and half for being nice, clean, warm and brightly lit. Great for people watching, and there are a TON of characters to watch on that corner. The staff is generally very helpful and pleasant. Glad to have it in the neighborhood! For better donuts, go a few blocks west to Downstate. Not as fun to hang out at. Stans is a very Chicago donut place. I was excited to get one in the neighborhood. The donuts are kind of meh and when you are eating a donut that's is not what you want to think. I like the croissant donut but the filling is too much and their chocolate frosting is just a little lack luster. Service has moved fast being in there and I love the ballon from the new opening. I do feel like being cashless is limiting and pricing out options for unhoused people in the area who might just want a coffee but that is a whole other subject. read more

A few things to note is that this specific location is slightly new,but doesn't absolve them of simple due diligence. Last week,running errands made it the 4th time I'd come in and not been served. Kind given this place 3 pther chances before this. There were 6 people sitting in a booth with nothing at their table. The place was pretty empty during the afternoon,and with the exception of one othrr person of color,i was thee only one. There were 4 baristas on duty as i walked up to the counter,and as i stood a few feet away fromnone of the people from the table. Not a single person acknowledged me. So i went back to my headquarters and told each of my colleagues not to support this place. Not a single barista was busy,and i was still standing there. The place was empty with the exception of the 6 people who weren't of color,who had not purchased anything. Won't be back. Can absolutely tell NONE of these people are even from the neighborhood. Get it together, or we can have a sit down with the alderman. The choice is yours. read more
