I discovered this place over a decade ago in Portland OR. I am really excited when they decided to open a location in Chicago. The donuts are amazing, unique and fun. It also doesn't hurt that they are open from 6am to Midnight - perfect for those sudden doughnut cravings! One thing that can be improved is how they handle big orders. I recently ordered over 5 dozen doughnuts and it came in 6 boxes and a small bag. First problem: they don't deliver. Second and bigger problem is that they don't pack big orders so you can carry them out. How the heck am I going to carry 6 boxes and a bag of donuts??? Maybe they want to keep their business "small". While strolling in the West Loop on my way to pick a different unhealthy bite I stumbled across Voodoo Doughnut. It's been well over a decade since trying for the first time in Seattle. Tbh I remember being disappointed because of the hype. Today I entered with tempered expectations. I tried the Old Fashioned doughnut and it was somewhere between solid and above average. I'll definitely stick with Do-Rite especially because they're a few blocks away and significantly better. Since seeing Voodoo Doughnut on the Food Network, I was always intrigued to give them a try as their donuts seem to be funny, unique, risqué, and over-the-top. I had my first chance in San Antonio but I missed it because I was just feeling way too full after a decadent steak dinner down the street (Bohanon's??). From the vegan menu, we tried (from favorite to least favorite): vegan chocolate ring, Voodoo doll, maple bar, and old dirty bastard. From the regular menu: raised glaze and blueberry cake are my boyfriend's go-to picks. This is a great stop for donut lovers who want to try something different and crazy. I really liked the shops personality, and the chandeliers are the best! We tried the bubble gum donut, and yes, it really did have a piece of gum right in the center! He was manning the counter alone (his coworker Hess on break), and it had a little rush of a few groups and he really kept it running very smoothly. I've known about Voodoo for more than a decade now and all the craze in Portland. First, I'm not a big fan of donuts to begin with. While at Fulton Market I kept noticing people walking by with large pink boxes. I knew something was up and grew very suspicious of a close by donut shop. It didn't take long to track down the Voodoo donut shop down the block. On the outside of the entrance was a poster with a description of all the donuts being sold. On the inside was a three tier carousel to provide a visual example of all the types of donuts being sold for the day. We ended up taking 5 donuts home. Most of the donuts offered are contemporary style and my preference leans more toward traditional. I had the homer which was a raised donut covered with a strawberry icing and the blueberry cake. The blueberry cake was probably my fav. Nothing spectacular here. They are fairly large donuts and range in price from $1.50 to $4.75 depending on the size and toppings. There are some creative donut creations to indulge in if that is your thing. I do demand a lot when looking for a good donut such a dough flavor, texture, sweetness, and moisture which is why the rating is not so high. read more

As a tourist in Chicago, I had to stop by Voodoo Doughnuts! The decor is vibrant and PINK. Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and there was no line. Service was friendly and patient as we made our choices. I remembered struggling a little bit to make a choice because I felt like there was a little less variety than I expected, in that there was a lot of chocolate and maple. Alright, most of us have heard of Voodoo at this point and I'm so glad they're in Chicago. Voodoo lives up to the hype! A friend and I stopped by on a Wednesday evening and there was no line. However in 20 minutes there was a line out the door! Not sure if it was just the timing, but they were out of some of the donuts on display. That was a bit frustrating. I stood there for about 5 minutes watching the donuts go around even though there were pictures of options posted outside. I went with the traditional voodoo donut and the old dirty bastard. Honestly, I liked the old dirty bastard a lot more. The voodoo wasn't bad, but I was surprised when it was filled with jelly. The combinations of the flavors weren't groundbreaking, but the quality of the donuts are what makes them special. The names of the donuts and the theme of the place is pretty hilarious, if your mind lives in the gutter. When I'm in Fulton Market, I'm definitely going to stop by! Voodoo Doughnuts has garnered attention as the new shop on the block serving up novelty donuts- I was impressed by the variety and was excited to visit, but it didn't rise far beyond this reputation for me. Upon walking in, the employees were very friendly and helpful. The shop is pretty large, so it was puzzling that there were only three small high top tables for seating. I ended up trying the banana cream pie, maple blazer blunt, and maple cream donut. I really liked how generous the cream filling was in the first and last, and how large the donuts are in general! I was disappointed though that the banana cream tasted very artificially flavored. The blazer blunt did not have much flavor, so the maple cream was definitely the winner of the three. In general, the bread was dry and a bit tough, and the frosting was hard, falling off into large chunks. I found them to be cloyingly sweet overall and was a bit nauseated halfway through just one. The donuts were fine overall, but with Do-Rite and Stan's within a few blocks, there isn't much of a reason to stop by again. read more

Was around the area for shopping. I saw a line outside the building and was easy to spot. We waited about 5 minutes in the cold but decided to step out of line and try online ordering after seeing a sign for online pickup. The donuts aren't super soft and I recognize that isn't every's taste but that's how Krispy Kreme set the standard. The leftovers got so hard, you couldn't push your voodoo needles in.
