My hard drive failed last month and unfortunately I had not backed up my data for several months. Stan was able to retrieve and back up my data while I waited for a new hard drive to arrive. He also recommended and got me set up with Acronis True Image to back up all of my data and essentially provide a copy of my hard drive. Stan was friendly, fast, and efficient. He provided me with great advice and professional assistance in my time of need. After the main issue with my pc was remedied I had a minor issue with the usb ports not working correctly. Jimmy and Stan both worked to fix this with no extra charge. Since Stans is located in the plaza that includes Whole Foods I was able to get a bit to eat while they fixed the USB ports. Stan is a legend. I brought my early 2011 Mac Book Pro in (which apple Stire employees had poo-poo'd). He started by telling me what a quality computer I had and why I should be proud! The he patiently and politely answered all my questions. When I picked up my computer, not only had he upgraded the RAM as per request, he had removed bugs, uninstalled a problematic program (which I wasn't smart enough to uninstall and had been unknowingly slowing my performance), replaced a key and did a general buff & puff! Stay far away from these rip-off artists. They don't do what they say they are going to do. They do it wrong. They don't stand behind their work. They hold your access codes and configuration hostage so that no one else can work on your computers/network. And, they sell software but it is probably bootlegged because they will not give you the key code. But, they are very good at collecting their money -- in advance of service. And their prices are ridiculous -- $180/hour?! Forgot to say that the tech guy worked at a snail's pace -- no doubt, trying to run up the hourly bill. It took three days to network three computers! And it turns out that they were not actually networked, but Stan's refuse to come back to do it properly. They fail to respond to emails and phone calls to correct the situation and to provide the info of what they did. Even dealt with the guy who ultimately admitted to being the owner (tried to hide it initially) and he was a rude dude. I love this place. It was recommended by my previous tech guy who moved out of the area. I've been there twice. Once for a virus on my lap top. The second time, my lap top wouldn't restart. I didn't know it went to sleep. So he pulled out the battery and it worked great. The help and do what they say their going to do. And in a timely manner. If you need your computer worked on...go here. 3-24-15 - I got another virus. It's same computer they fixed a few months ago. This time they offered me virus software which includes a policy that they will fix all such viruses and malware problems for the next year...for FREE. I asked why they didn't offer it to me the software on my previous visit. He said he's discuss with the boss. Now this is customer service: they removed my virus for free and only charged me for the software, which, they said, should have been offered to me last time. Wow. While I have never actually used their services, I have called them numerous times for estimates on problems I couldn't fix myself at work. Things like hot-swapping harddrives, or locking myself out of a computer with the group policy editor, etc. Every single time I called, rather than having me bring the computer in, the guys on the phone just answered all my questions and told me how to fix it. They actually care, and don't want to just steal your money. If I ever do have something I can't fix myself, or somebody I know needs to get their computer repaired, I will bring it to them or recommend them, absolutely no question about it. Just to add to everyone else's positive notes-- Stan knows his stuff. When my boyfriend's laptop power switch was broken, we took it to STG. Stan himself examined the switch, looked online, and said he could order the part for $200... or he thought he could make the old switch work for $80, using nothing more than glue, solder and Stan Power! When it came time to replace my tired old PC, I approached the matter with great trepidation. My partner had been using Stan's services for quite some time for his business, so when my PC simply wouldn't start up, I brought it over to the Garage. Turns out the hard drive was in the early stages of failing completely (boo), but was still in a state where it could be recovered without major difficulty or expense (yay!). These guys are awesome! I was a total bonehead and spilled a full glass of water all over my Macbook pro. I immediately rushed it to them and they understood the severity of the issue. UPDATE: Stan just hit me up to ask why I didn't initially give a full 5-star rating and, after I couldn't really figure out why, I updated it. Most because he made it obvious he actually read my review, which is appreciated. They definitely give a rat's behind! Yeah this place has certainly come in handy more than once, and it's great to have a spot next to Whole Foods so I can bring over whatever electronic is effed up that day and get a solid cup of free range gluten-free quinoa coffee right after. My laptop went to the blue screen of death one day and though I called ahead, I didn't have to. I brought it right in, Stan and his dog were there to check it out and I got a confident sense that these guys weren't going to go Geek Squad on me and charge me for all kinds of unnecessary "diagnostic tests." It was obvious that the operating system needed to be re-installed and they did just that, and fast. Plus the affordability of the whole ordeal solidified the fact that Stan isn't there to be the uber-geek who knows more than you about your computer. He just wants to fix it. And I found they also deal with other electronic stuff with the same level of honesty, and though they could have made a few hundred bucks fixing an elderly audio receiver of mine, they told me to it would make more sense (and save me cash) to just get a new one. My laptop crashed a month before completing graduate school. Needless to say, this was an emergency. I called the closest repair center and after I explained my situation, he referred me to Stan's Tech Garage. (Yay for honest repair people!). Stan wasn't able to fix my laptop, but he was able to extract all of my information and put it on a hard drive (hallelujah). Luckily, I bought my computer at Costco and was covered under an extended warranty. So although I was out of a laptop for over a month thanks to Lenovo, I had everything I needed on my hard drive and was able to work on a borrowed computer. Once I finally got the laptop back, I stopped by Stan's because some of my folders weren't syncing up and my outlook contacts were gone. He graciously put things back in order for me and told me what I needed to do get outlook exchange synced up again. And he wasn't annoyed that it all took longer than expected. Ok so I own like a crapload of computers but I don't really consider myself a computer guy. All I want is for the stupid things to work and when they break down, I don't even know what to do with myself. So one day my macbook dies on me and of course as fate would have it, my apple care just expired. WTF!!! I've had bad experiences at a couple computer repair shops in the past so I was definitely relieved when I walked into Stans. First of all, the place looked like a proper retail store (not like a Dungeons and Dragons/ Warcraft Lair as many other computer shops resemble). Second, I talked to Stan himself and after giving my macbook a good go around, he explained to me in plain English (not crazy tech speak), what was wrong with it. He said he had to switch something or another and he said it would take about a day. About 3 hrs later, I get a call from Stan that my macbook is ready!!! Nice. Here's my story: In September 2014, I brought my crashed 5 year old gaming PC to Stan's with a flicker of hope that it could be saved and upgraded to play the latest games. Stan took a look under the hood and gave me the straight talk. They could probably get it working again but it would still be outdated and unable to handle the latest games. In order to be more current, every component would have to be upgraded and, the truth was, it would be better to just start fresh. It was what I expected. I had given my trusty old rig the last rites of expert analysis but it was time to relegate it to the scrap heap. I asked Stan if they could build me a new gaming rig. He asked me what my budget was and worked it out with me as to what components would give me the most bang for my buck, now and into the next few years. He explained the newest and next generation of components, where things seemed to be headed, where the future was unclear, and how I could have a screamingly fast computer that would hold up to the next generation of games for the foreseeable future. I found his patience invaluable since I was spending a good deal of money for a sweet rig, but not twice as much for all the latest gear. I needed to make informed choices. In the end, I felt comfortable that, although my budget dictated many choices, Stan's guidance was sound. Do I really have to tell you the result? Okay, okay since you're twisting my arm, I'll tell you. I now have a computer that effortlessly plays any game I want at the highest specs. A computer that boots up and is ready to go in seconds rather than minutes. A computer that I am extremely happy with. My games look better and respond faster than ever before. And with its solid state hard drive my new computer is practically silent. Just to show you the commitment to customer service at Stan's, I need to tell you another part of the story. When I first got my new computer home, I noticed something strange. It seemed to be turning itself on. I called Stan and they told me they had never experienced such a thing before. I brought it in and, of course, it didn't happen the whole time they had it. They searched the logs but it didn't show up. When I got it home it continued to turn itself on every few days. I was nonplussed. At that point, I even considered the possibility that maybe my new kitty was an evil genius who figured out how to turn my computer on in order to drive me insane. I called Stan again. He was perplexed as well and couldn't rule the kitty theory out. Or maybe it was the part that I was insane, I'm not really sure. At that point, I was pretty much beside myself since I loved the computer's performance but who wants a computer that turns itself on every few days? The next day Jimmy called me and said he had done some research. It seemed that the BIOS on my motherboard could be causing the problem and that he would need to install an updated BIOS. Stan sent Jimmy to my house with the assurance that they were committed to solving the problem, whatever it took. Jimmy updated the BIOS and did a few other things to ensure the effectiveness of the update. Since that day, my computer has not turned itself on. Thanks Jimmy and Stan! I've since sent my wife to Stan's when her computer died. They built her a solid non-gaming computer with quality components for a really good price. Recently, I had a problem with a Windows update and Jimmy fixed it for me pronto and, with Stan's blessing, gratis. He is my official computer doctor...and by default my doctor, b/c when my computer becomes useless and I have work to do, my sanity goes out the window. Stan diagnoses your computer's issue, explains to you exactly what is going on, your different options and price points for resolving your issue, and he does it all quickly, fairly and as promised. If he feels that you don't actually have an issue and that you can easily resolve the problem on your own for free, he helps you with that too. It's rare to find a good, honest business like this - Stacy/Affordable care (the great auto shop in Hollywood for Acuras and Hondas) is another rare example that comes to mind. They're located in the parking lot with the WeHo Whole Foods, just up the stairs on the East side (to your right when facing WF). They have convenient office hours and nice dogs to greet you. I've worked with scores of IT people in corporate offices and as independent consultants and Stan is excellent. No attitude, just humor, and obvious skill and knowledge. My wife, who is way way pregnant, accidentally dropped her obscure, nearly obsolete work tablet pc and fudged up the swivel mechanism. I was on Catalina Island when she called me and I looked up computer fix it folks and find 41 Five-star yelp reviews for Stan. He was close by and was able to get the computer in right away at 10am. They called my wife at 12pm to tell her what was wrong with it and if she wanted them to order the part and work on it or come and get it. She also got an estimate on how long it would take to get the part. He said if they ordered it on Friday, they'll get it by Monday or Tuesday and once they got the part it wouldn't take too long to fix it. Stan also said it was ok to call and check up on her laptop if she was getting antsy. He got the necessary, scarce part ordered in no time and by Monday at 3pm it was repaired. When we went to pick it up he was super nice and his cute dogs, both rescues, came to greet us. He does a lot of different repairs, even recycling old computers, which we were in need of as well. He said it was a pain in the ass and grumbled about it in a hilarious manner while holding his Uggy-look-alike (p)upside down, like a baby. Our Bill: Diagnostics: $49 (because he had to pull it apart to find where the hinge was) Part: $80 Labor: $109 Not bad considering it was a completely off the wall repair for him. Well, here is yet another 5-star review for these guys! I'm a PC user, and was a diehard Windows XP user until the discontinuation of support for that from Microsoft. All of my hardware ran on XP--and I have some expensive photo-related hardware for use in my work as a photographer--and wouldn't update to Windows 7. Rats. I LOVE my high end printer, scanner, and software that I've been using, and at this point would have to throw them all out to buy completely new gear, camera included probably. We're talking lots of money here. So, the guys had some suggestions. On the phone, they will take time to consider your problem, and make suggestions. They installed my system onto a new and zippy fast gaming computer, and it will run XP. I won't be using it online at all. This was all done fast, too! I now have 2 computers, which is a bit of a pain, but at least I can still use my hardware and software. I use external hard drives to store things, and just plug them into whichever computer I'm using. The guys are geniuses! The dogs are great too. I love this place! read more

They suggested a solid state start-up disk, and when I complained about not having true USB 3.0 (comes in handy for massive 4K files) they said they could install a card for that AND very importantly do it over the weekend, so I wouldn't lose a work day. Amazingly, they took care of me in one day. I dropped my system off Saturday at noon and it was ready by 5:00 p.m. They cloned my start up disk perfectly onto a new SSD drive, and the speed is insane. Booting up, opening apps, and re-starting is so so so much faster. AND the USB 3.0 they installed has EIGHT (8!) ports built into my Mac Pro. I tried to upgrade an iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, and it basically crashed. And, (I'm embarrassed to admit) I didn't have a back-up. It was a super scary situation! I went to the Apple Store first, and they told me the hard drive would need to be replaced... but they don't do data recovery. So, I found Stan's on Yelp... and he took such careful means to really get at the heart of the matter. He went FURTHER than the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and was more fully able to diagnose the problem. He found an issue with the logic board that the folks at the Genius Bar completely missed. Stan went above and beyond to figure out a means to retrieve the data in the most cost-efficient way possible. His advice for repairs vs getting a new computer was incredibly informative and helpful. So my friend broke the power button on my computer (idk how?!) so he took my laptop to be repaired here... $60 for them to open it up and look at it then 3days later they told him a piece from the power button got loose so they have to replace it with another one so that's another week without my Laptop so yesterday there all finished with my laptop and claimed they called my friend multiple times(not true) to tell him that my mouse pad not working on my laptop anymore and it would be another $150 to fix it! Like wtf!? The motherboard in my old Dell XPS laptop stopped working properly and Dell wasn't willing to help, so I found Stan's Tech Garage on Yelp. After calling and speaking to Tyler, I brought the laptop in on a Sunday and got a rough estimate after the tech did some basic diagnostics in my presence. I paid a ~$50 fee up front and I was told that I would be contacted every step of the way with the laptop being ready Friday (5 days). While the service was great, there were a couple issues that prevented me from giving this place 5 stars. I wasn't contacted every step of the way..I had to call in to find out what was going on with the laptop. I never found out what the final amount was going to be until I had to pick up the laptop (while the final amount was decided half way through the process). I got a text on Thursday saying that my laptop was ready - 1 day ahead of schedule! All in all, great work...came through during a tough time. Make sure you find out the final price as soon as you can if that's going to be an issue for you, though. I'd definitely take my laptop here again. read more

Just left, and they blew me away. My computer had been slowing down for a week. I ran anti-virus, and malware scan, to no avail. I built the computer myself a couple years ago, and knew how to reinstall the OS, so I did that. I figured it might be hardware, but didn't have a spare hard drive or memory to switch them out. I called a couple other places, and they said it was $75/hr just to diagnose what was wrong!!! These guys asked me to bring it by so they could look at it, and try to diagnose what was wrong, gratis. They were really nice, and spent over an hour trying to figure what was wrong. We finally figured it was just my memory. Superior customer service, and the price was right. I even offered to pay at the end, since they had spent so much time with me, but they wouldn't hear of it. I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat. read more

Stan's is the kind of place (and Stan himself is the kind of guy) that everyone wants to do business with, and other operations wish they could be like. A. He let's you know about EVERYTHING (cost, what's involved, parts, options, etc...) up front. There are no surprises, and if you feel like you're missing something just ask. B. He does EXACTLY what he says he's going to do (or have his team do) C. He does NOTHING that he says he's not going to do. Sorry for the caps, but it's really important to emphasize that this is a straight-shooting business, very reasonable prices, and they welcome questions every step of the way to make sure their customers are comfortable and happy. I know some tech, and there was no bullshit whatsoever coming from these guys. Would that all businesses were this good. Run, and FAST, in the opposite direction of GeekSquad or the others, and straight into the door at Stan's. It's worthy of each and every one of the stars that people here have given them. read more
