Ahhhh, nice. One store chain from the Triple Threat of major office supply store chaines-Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot. I don't love just one, I LOVE THEM ALL EQUALLY! I ventured here last Saturday for cheap back-to-school sales after going to the Office Depot on State/Madison and finding it closed until 10. It was 9:30 when I went there, so I decided to venture to this Staples. I've been here before, last Summer, purchasing school supplies for a friend's three kids. Nothing has changed storewise since then, but what made my latest visit to this location so great was a wannabe employee at the store telling me about ID lanyards that the store had for $4.99 a piece. Because she was so nice and so helpful, and so knowledgable, like a Staples employee would be, I decided to purchase a lanyard. Because this place is bi-level unlike many Staples stores, you have to go to the 1st floor to check out. I paid for my lanyard and the .99 folder I picked up from downstairs in the basement and showed my Staples Rewards card that I've had since July 2005. But at an open register next to the one where I was checking out, was the lady who helped me with buying the lanyard. She needed .95 to cover the cost of her purchase, so I went into my wallet and plucked out a $1 bill and gave it to her. Hey, she assisted me so it was my turn to assist her. I have now visited this location twice, at different times if day, hoping to get some help. On both occasions, I was totally ignored and never even greeted. I am not sure what the employees are doing, but they lack the most basic of customer service skills. The store itself is gross, too. Seems dirty and most of the tech items are in a hot basement. So, I hate Staples. I've had so many bad experiences over the years that it's my least favorite place to buy office supplies. Why might I have gone into one to shop? Well, I have a Staples "cash card" after a fight with Belkin and a returned router. So why the 4 star review? Since getting said card I've gone into the 111 N Wabash location several times to buy school supplies as it's only two blocks from school and usually a better experience than buying from the school bookstore. Just about every time I've been into this store I've gotten extremely quick, polite and helpful customer service, jumps and leaps above and beyond my average Staples experience. This is not what I'd expect, especially from a downtown location, but I wanted to give a shout out to the attentive and positive employees that always make my day a little bit better. Terrible service. I needed to print a few things. I labeled each document with the instructions of how I wanted it done and the staff was just slow, cranky and unwilling to help. I've printed here before and it hasn't been this bad, but Richard just made my experience crazy unpleasant. He also refused to help other customers. read more

Convenient: just a block from my house, better than running up the avenue to Best Buy or other drab office stores. Great for quick runs of essential basic items, I haven't really used them for expensive or large purchases for some reason. The staff are nice but hard to find, seems like there is one person if any in the basement. The layout is a little depressing in that all the cool stuff is downstairs with artificial lights, which always dampens my enthusiasm. Relatively easy to find most things by yourself. read more

I went in there yesterday looking for letter size file folders, having walked from Water Tower Place. They were stocked out of their house brand 25s, which had 3 empty slots on the shelves and the house brand 50s had NO slot. The employee said that I could order it from the web site. Well, duh. I'm in the store because I needed it NOW. The branded files were much too expensive. I found that the one type of file folders that TARGET had were cheaper and several better alternatives at the Office Depot a block away, which is much larger. I kind of like the Staples in Glenview. I will never go to Kinko's again. I dropped off my graduate thesis to be bound today at the Washington and Wabash Staples and I expressed my nerves with a really sweet girl who was working there and she just called to let me know she made sure it was bound today so it will be ready for tomorrow. How amazing is that? She didn't have to call to let me know it was done and it was going to be safe. That is definitely going above and beyond for something that only cost me 6 dollars. It can get busy there but, it is really nice to have kind people to interact with when you are hustling to finish something. Seriously. I wish I could remember her name so I could call her out so she can get some recognition for her excellent customer service and just being a great human being. read more

I needed a plastic sign holder for a trade show. They always crack when I attempt to fly with them. I placed an order online, and the order was ready for pickup within an hour. I walked to this location from the Swissotel. Nice staff. They quickly found my order. check out was easy. My only complaint is the number of emails that I have received since I placed the order. read more

The store was clean and orderly and the customer service was reasonable and overall positive !!! I went into the store to buy a 901 ink for printer .HP! The price was $ 39?!?!?!? In all the shopping sites that exist on the Internet the prices are around $22 !!! By the way, in every parameter, the prices in the store are many percentages higher than those on the Internet: Amazon, etc. I recommend not to enter the store UNLESS IT IS AN emergency and there is no other choices .. & you will save a lot of money and nerves. read more

I find that the people here can be pretty helpful! I've would rather go to here than the Kinko's down the street. I needed to print a small book I was making and they were pretty knowledgeable and friendly. Also, they let me bring in my own binding since they didn't have the one I was looking for. read more

I ordered a floor mat for next day delivery on a Monday. Next day it didn't get here, eventually I discovered that delivery guy didn't have enough time and apparently quit at 5 pm. Instead of delivering next day....I would expect it to be first thing...their system reported that it WAS delivered! (not done). Next day after I contacted them, it was to be redelivered. Still no action on day 3; on day 4 they have advised it will be one week after order.....hardly a next day delivery. Now waiting over the holidays to see what turn this takes next. I indicated that others are delivering all day and night, weekends, etc. but apparently Staples has a "9 to 5" schedule and fails to keep customers interests at the forefront. read more

Pam K was incredible as she helped me select a work chair! I was pleased with her kindness, knowledge, and thoroughness. She went well beyond basic service to help me learn about the features of different models. After shopping a little more, I went back the next day to purchase one of the chairs we found during the online search, Pam M was working downstairs and printed out the slip so I could make the purchase. I tried to stop in during my lunch break to purchase something today. There was a long line even though all four cash registers open. The first cashier did not know how to refund an online pick up order so he asked another cashier who was wearing blue eyeliner. She came off as very rude and raised her voice the entire time towards both of us as if she was annoyed that someone needed her help. The first cashier seemed normal which is why I'm giving two stars and not one. read more

Had terrible customer service there yesterday. Do not trust this place!! I had my book bound there, the lady said to trust her and that it would take 2 hours. I come back, the front cover was missing. I kindly asked them about the issue and she said "That's the way you gave it to me".. I disagreed and told her there was a cover. She got an attitude and tried to act like it was my fault. I asked to look through the trash can because I knew I included the cover. Sure enough the cover was in the trash! She apologized, and they scanned the crumpled paper and rebound it. Didn't look as good, and I still had to pay. They didn't ask for a refund or discount for me. When I got home I realized another page was missing!! Will not return to this location. read more

two floors, one technician, no management and one checkout woman and they dare call it a superstore? Escalator down work, escalator up doesn't work and nobody upstairs knows anything. Unfortunately there is no space for the online store, and that is who I want to rate. Be aware that buying online is a risk, I would not recommend it. Received a chair, box was broken, chair was bent and scratched. I did not want to return it because is a hassle. Call them. They gave ma a gift card with a ridiculous amount (perhaps I can buy a pen). They said that's all they could do. Very disappointed. I would say, do not buy online! avoid this store. read more

After going to other office supply stores, I finally found what I needed here. I was greeted upon entering but was not offered any help. Not a problem because I surveyed the place and found it in no time. The check out line was short and quick for a mid-afternoon day. Thank goodness too. It was awfully hot inside. read more

Very poor service. Created a kid bday invitation on their website & ordered 50 copies for pick-up at downtown Chicago store. Proof looked great but they added an unwanted text box which was clearly visible on the printed copies, even though it wasn't on the proof and I had even called their store first for them to proof before printing. I tried to remedy by at least downloading an updated version to send out electronically, but they only let you download a version that says PROOF all over it, even after you pay for it. They said it was my fault. No apologies, nothing. Don't go here. read more

I came in today to purchase a ribbon for my fax machine and the guy who helped me was kind of snarky looking at me saying I could save more money on a different device when it came to the toner cartridge when my fax machine is only a year old and I don't use it a lot only to copy and fax work-related documents in. The employees need to wear name tags so you can address them properly. Also this same guy was being rather snarky with a customer on the phone and I am like this if you don't like working with the public go into a different line of work. There's no reason for workers to act like that period I don't care of it's been a long day show some respect to the customers who come into the store. This is why African-Americans are often times treated below the belt because of their nasty and often times unprofessional manners. I'll ship here again just this time I'll either call the order in or do it online and pick it up instore so I won't have to deal with crappy customer service and the girl who rang me up was really nice and asked if I found everything ok which I did but she was more pleasant than her co-worker who needed to lose the attitude. read more

The male staff at the printing section is extremely helpful! I went to get a book cut and punched. When I got there the woman had an attitude, maybe because it was lunch time or she was tired, she did look a bit tired :/. The gentleman however was so much more pleasant to deal with. I wish I got his name. After cutting my book he helped me with my bags to a table with the puncher and showed me how to use it on my own for free. Very pleased with my service. read more

I was going to give a one star for the many issues I've always run into at this location. I had been in the process of doing this review for a while. The Misplaced prices, the wrong product in the box, in the past horrible service. However, the customer service in the place has improved. I can also tell the people working like being there. I shop at this staples all the time, since it's downstairs from my office. I have always had a great experience with the staff - and if they are ever out of what I need they order it for me and it arrives within a few days. But this is rare - they usually have exactly what I'm looking for. My main reason for writing this review though is that I'm shocked by all the negative reviews of the copy and print center! I use the copy and print center at least once a month - usually for a last minute project that I need done asap. The girls there are AMAZING! They are always so accommodating and get my order done quickly - much faster than I should reasonably expect from such a busy location. The quality is always great and they work with me on little projects and huge jobs. I'm sorry the other reviewers had such negative experiences, but please believe me when I say this copy and print center has saved me a lot of time, hassle and headaches over the years! read more

The customer service that I received at this store was a pleasant experience! Yesterday, while on the Lower Level of the store, I ran into the Manager, Robert, and asked about a certain storage box for compact discs. He knew exactly what I wanted but told me that they no longer carried it in-store, but could order it on my behalf. He then called Kenyatta over to help me and place an order on my behalf, which she quickly did. She said that it would be in the very next day ( ! ) and, because I would pick it up at the store, it would ship for free. Sure enough it came in the following day, and David retrieved my order and helped me at the register. Each of them deserves my thanks! read more

This place has a pretty decent selection of basic office supplies at reasonable prices. It seems as if they have more people to assist you around compared with Office Depot on State. And walking into their electronics section isnt a long hike like it is for Target on State and Madison. Last thing I bought here was a wireless mouse, on sale for $16. Do not rely on this location for important print jobs. After submitting an order online days in advance, I received a call saying they could not complete my order by the requested time (at least I got a call). There is a "print center" at this location, however it appears to be one person only. When I asked when the job could be completed, I was only told "before we close". If you have important print jobs, you probably need a more professional service provider. read more

The woman who worked with me was very nice but she was not empowered by Staples to help me solve my problems: I wanted to mail a package to a PO Box and I wanted to put "fragile" stickers on the package. I ended up spending a lot of time before I discovered that this would not be possible at this location. read more

Lauren was a tremendous resource, help, and committed employee. She went above and beyond to ensure that I got exactly what I needed, when I needed it. I made a printing error and while it would have been easy for an employee to say "sorry for your mistake," and send me on my way, Lauren went out of her way to help. My stress was alleviated because Lauren helped to ensure I could expediently re-print a poster so I could it present it on time. Additionally, Lauren helped me find a product that was not listed on the website but that was more appropriate for my goals. read more

Maybe they place their emphasis on printing services because they really don't have a selection of office supplies. Of my short list of everyday things I needed to buy as the new semester starts, I only found one thing on my list: black pens. There were no pocket folders, index cards, etc. But I did end up finding everything I need at Target. Hm. read more

My fiance and I were shopping at Staples for our various stationary needs. We were approached multiple times by employees asking if we needed assistance (we were in on Monday evening just after work hours). Kenyatta was absolute amazing in helping us. We described the color & "vision" we had for our paper, and when we weren't finding colors in our very specific envelop dimensions (4 3/8" x 5 3/4"), she disappeared and came back with all their color options online and offered to order them for us. She helped us through printing samples, ways to save money (use paper Staples carry, ship to store, etc), writing down item numbers for us -- just everything. She seemed to genuinely care, and it was so impressive and refreshing. Thanks to her customer service, and as a result we're ordering all our items through Staples now! Go Kenyatta! read more

I work for a leased business located inside the Macys on State Street. One day our computer went down, so we decided to take it over to Staples to have it checked out. We took it over to Staples, and this guy gave us a quote for about $300. This guy started saying things about various components within the computer, to try and make his service pitch. But because the error message shown on the computer said it was a fan error. I decided to diagnose the situation myself, and come to find out that's all it needed was to replace the CPU fan (which is online for sale around $20). So please dont be fooled by Staples, they're not out to help you, there out to get your money. If you have pc issues, look around and find someone more reputable, because Staples isn't. read more
