Customer service is great .. But their mechanics have to study more and make right car diagnostic. I left the car there to fix the turn signal and the horn and they fixed the turn signal to me, but there were problems with the horns. they took $74.46 from me for diagnostics and changed my fuse for $16.19 and said that the problem was solved but when I got a car i started checking horns 1 time i clicked on the horns and there it was barely audible second time it wasn't working. I come back to their office i asked from their manager Bill why my horns is not working . he said we need to make another diagnostic tomorrow and i don't have to pay for this one i said okay. I come back i gave my car to another diagnostic after 3 hours their owner Mike called me and said " Sir. You need to get another horns . I asked how much is it cast ? he said $151.01!. I said let me think about it . I went to their office and Mike met me. I said to him that I dont want to get fix my horns in there because i found another place where i could fix my horns for 85$. My dissatisfaction is 1) Their "Diagnostic is not correct they fixed My fuse but fuse wasn't a main problem! They just took 16$ for nothing ! I cant understand why they didn't told me price for real fixing my horns They start slowly taking ur money and than they start telling you a real problems which ur car have . If they told me a full price for fixing which is would be 254$ which is crazy only for fixing horns isn't? If they told me a real price from the begging . I've had two different interactions here with my 05 Taurus and will continue to take any of my car issues here without hesitation. They offer free pickup and drop off to accommodate a working schedule and free loaners. Everyone who works here that I have interacted with has been incredibly professional, polite and understanding. You can just tell that they run a clean, honest shop- the kind of place that will give you an honest and straightforward recommendation for a repair. They aren't interested in tacking on extra things to run up your bill, they are interested in creating long-term customers. Their words, "We're not for everyone". True! I'm very price conscious and try to never pay more for car repairs than necessary. Often times Star Auto is cheaper than the dealer or other shops, however, not always and a couple of times significantly higher. Since learning that I overpaid at Star Auto (vs. Toyota dealer!) I always check prices before agreeing to service. They don't appreciate that or that I can't blindly trust them. In fact, they will no longer service my car as a result of my shop hopping. That says a lot! If you're not primarily concerned about price, go there. They boast they offer value beyond the cost of the service. I'd rather have the dollars in my pocket. I would never say they do shoddy work or are dishonest, just BUYER BEWARE and don't ask too many questions or they may refuse to service your vehicle as well. My 2004 Acura TL with over 120,000 miles developed a small automatic transmission leak after being downshifted to save the brakes while driving through the mountains in Utah and Colorado. (Note to self: brakes are cheaper than transmission repairs.) The Acura dealer does not disassemble transmissions; replacement only. Since it is an older car (otherwise in great shape) which I plan to sell in about a year, I did not want to pay for a new transmission. I found other shops with much lower prices, but no guarantee and most importantly: those shops would not let me examine the transmission as soon as it was removed, and the case halves disassembled. That made me suspect that "in the back" those other shops would discover other transmission problems, raising the repair costs. Star Auto Authority called me when the transmission was disassembled to let me drive the short distance back (in their loaner) to examine the problem. As expected, is was a VERY small split in the seal (less than a pencil line drawn across the narrow seal), which only leaked under the increased pressure of highway speeds. No other problems were discovered in the transmission (i.e. no mysterious 'extra' maintenance charge). While examining the lower body they discovered, and showed me, two worn out motor mounts (the dealer has replaced some previously - this car seems to go through them) for which I authorized replacement. They also pointed out very worn inside tread on the front tires (even though I took it in regularly to NTB under their alignment/balance program - no longer). My wife's 2007 Nissan Murano has most service performed at Star Auto Authority with similar top-quality work. In summary: excellent problem diagnosis, excellent maintenance suggestions (with alternatives), and excellent repairs. read more

I come back to realize that they over charged me not for only premium oil but also try to charge me $65 to replace a headlight bulb (which takes about 30 seconds and a 7 dollar part). these guys are crocks. Total rip off! Got a rear panel painted in winter and didn't realize til I went home that the paint match was terrible. Sadly I never found the time and it took me 2 months to return and show them. I wasn't going to go back but I had to have my gas cap replaced and now the paint match was even more evident. I was told that it didn't bother me for a couple months so it must not be that bad. He said he would repaint it for $600. I went back and will never return. I went and got 2 quotes to repair the sub par work and both poeple commented on how crappy the work was done. I usually goto Acura dealer for my car needs. When I had to spend a huge amount for a headlight I wanted to try this star auto as they said they can get after market parts. They took $125/- to diagnose (even after I mentioned what the problem was and what it needed based on the dealer diagnosis) and at the end said they couldn't get aftermarket parts and it would still cost me $700/-. I felt that I got sucked into a fix to spend this huge amount even before they could give me a final quote. So, I left without fixing it as I felt that was not right. I will go back to the dealer whom I trust more and where I don't feel that I was being played. My advise to the readers : do not pay any amount in advance for the diagnosis or whatever. Ask for a firm estimate before you shell out any money. read more

My previous experiences with mechanics has consisted of being told I needed work done that was expensive and unnecessary. This place is honest and explains everything. They do great work that lasts. The first time we used them my dad referred me after another mechanic quoted me a couple hundred to replace all my brakes on a relatively new vehicle. I was excited to see this place open so close to my house. And to be honest, they were very nice to me until I decided NOT to fix my breaks with them. After all, they quoted $3000 and I had it fixed for $250. The other day I called Star Auto to get a quote for fixing the air conditioner in my car. Mike told me to call the guy that fixed my breaks. He refused a quote because I went else where last time. He proceeded to tell me Star Auto is known for their service not price. I told him I can see that and requested to be removed from their system. Not sure how good their work is, but due to ridiculous prices, rude customer service, and "we hold a grudge" type of attitude, I will never call them again. Went to another auto body shop close by in Libertyville to get a quote to fix my car, and they estimated $255. I went to Star Auto for the first time and they told me around $100. That's when i decided to give them a try. They are very courteous and professional. I really like how Mike said "if this were my car...I would do this" and just give me a very honest answer. I felt like I wasn't being taken advantage of, just for being a girl, which is more than what I can say for other auto body shops. My car received a complimentary hand-wash, had the windows cleaned inside & out, as well as had the interior vacuumed. It looked wonderful. The wait time was as promised, and the waiting area does have fresh coffee, delicious cookies, and free wifi. Can't get any better than that! I am relieved to have found such a great place to bring my car in the northern suburbs, and I am seriously considering coming here for my oil change too (I have never gotten an oil change anywhere else besides my dealership for 5 years). I went here for the first time and I couldn't be happier with the service, friendliness and honesty. My service manager was Bill Wilczynski. He is a friendly and honest man. I went in to get an estimate to fix the rear bumper on my 2010 Lexus RX 350. One of the tabs that holds the bumper together broke off and the side of the bumper was sticking out. Bill took a look at it and basically fixed it right then and there for only $52. I say only because the other place I took it in (Acura of Libertyville body shop at 1620 S Milwaukee Ave, Libertyville IL http://bit.ly/1cPjbQp) told me it will cost $600 to fix or about $1000 for a new bumper. They just wanted to rip me off! very dishonest!. Not knowing any better I went ahead and asked them to call me to schedule an appointment to bring the car in. I waited a whole week and didn't hear back, so I called again and talked to the same guy and waited another week and still haven't heard back. Needless to say I will not be going to them. Back to Star Auto Authority...I am so happy with their honesty and customer service that I will be taking my other car to fix the cracked windshield. When I left my house this morning, I heard an awful noise on the bottom of my car. I parked to get out and check and a big piece of plastic had partially come off the bottom of my car in the front and was dragging on the ground. As a recent college grad and new car owner, I was very lucky to end up going to Star Auto Authority for collision work on my Subaru. I worked with Scott at Star Auto Authority, and he took care of everything I needed for collision services with no headache whatsoever. I personally am not the most well versed with auto repair, and I felt comfortable from the start trusting Star Auto Authority with my car and repairs. Scott also kept me in the loop at every step of the process through dealing with my insurance company and completing the repairs. Also, the loaner car was incredibly helpful and a fantastic service to make the process even less of a headache. I took my car here only because the dealer could not get the car in right away and I needed to get the work done as soon as possible due to going out of town for a few weeks. The price was right but they really pushed the add-ons and kept telling me my car needed additional work done when it just needed one small part. I told them that I just wanted the one part replaced and that they needed to call me if they are going to do any additional work. I was told it would be about $400 to get the part fixed when I went to pick up the car I was presented with a bill that was $550 as they had under estimated their estimate. I was not happy. The good: they did a great job on the repair and were able to get it done that same day. The bad: they really pushed the add-ons and the cost was much more then I was expecting. read more

Was in the area and noticed my rear tire was going flat again which had been happening a lot. Living in chicago I didn't think I would make it home so stopped in here on a whim to replace the tire. Turns out the rim was corroded and needed repair rather than replacing the tire. Was in and out in an hour and spent only 60 bucks for the repair. Waiting room had coffee, cookies and wireless. My car died in the Walmart parking lot, turns out my alternator had had its last dance. I called Star Auto and they came right over, hooked a machine up to my battery to get it going, brought it (and me) back to the shop. I enjoyed a hot cup of star bucks coffee and some cookies while they checked out my situation. Once they figured out that I needed a new alternator, they explained everything to me without making me feel stupid (I am a woman and at other vehicle maintenance shops I have been made to feel less than adequate when getting my car serviced), loaned me a car so I could run errands while they worked and returned my car cleaner than it had started. This really is as good as it gets! I came in to the shop after researching good mechanics in the northern Illinois area. Star Auto was consistently at or near the top of the lists. I figured I'd give them a try. After choosing them for a repair on my '91 Honda, I can say for certain that this place is unlike any garage I've ever been to. Imagine if Intel built a garage & you'll basically have what Star Auto is. Here are some things that are just shockingly awesome: 1. They have a special bay where all they do is check in cars. This is so you don't have to stand outside in the weather describing what's wrong with your vehicle. 2. Their shop is pristine. I remember noticing that the main garage bay floor was so shiny that it was reflecting the lights above. I thought maybe they even waxed it to get it that nice looking. 3. They have loaner cars that customers can request. This is a dealership level perk! I brought in a '91 Honda Civic for $400 worth of repairs. They gave me an '09 Toyota Corolla for 3 days for free! How can you beat that? 4. They have webcams to show you your repairs. You can log on to their website and watch the repairs being done to your car. Second, they can show you what they're talking about on the phone if you're at home by your computer. For example, if they suggest a new oil pan gasket because they found a leak, you can log on and they'll show you the leak while you're at home! 5. They're e-mail savvy. Star Auto had a few repairs that they recommended. Since I couldn't afford them at the time, the technician emailed me a prioritized invoice so I could review the recommendations on my own & make an informed decision. It's so much better than having someone call you & having to decide on the phone right then. 6. The technicians are very professional & knowledgeable. I described my problem in layman's terms & he basically knew it was a faulty park / neutral switch. He was able to give me an accurate estimate & help me on my way. They call regularly just to give updates on repair statuses. They go above & beyond. TLDR version; even if you don't believe the hype you owe it to yourself to give Star Auto a chance. This place is the single best auto mechanic I've ever been to. I will recommend this place to anyone - and have been for the past 3 days. read more

In the past, I used to get both my Nissan's (Murano and Altima) serviced and repaired at the Nissan dealers (Elgin, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights). Over time I realized that none of the dealers really cared for my interests or the car. The work done was always over priced, in many cases not required either, the dealers used to just replace parts which could easily be repaired and many a times had poor workmanship. However since I have become a regular customer at Star Auto for a over a couple years now. I just love their professionalism and honesty, they do not beat around the bush or oversell, they provide options on what could be done and help me make the best decision. I am disappointed with the brake job that I got done thru Star Auto... not really in the quality of work done, that seems fine, and, frankly, cannot rate them on quality issues, since I do not know enough about it. I was overcharged for labor, and also probably the parts they put in... they say that they put in premium parts, while the paperwork says otherwise. Likewise, in the labor charges, when I pointed out that the whole work got done in 1.5 hours, and, they charged me $400 for labor, the manager told me that he put two technicians to get the job done to meet Friday evening deadline... the paperwork, again says otherwise. So, one of the two facts is a lie, and, this is a lie I can detect, unlike what they could have done with my car. read more
