if i could give zero stars i would. the front desk staff has atrocious attitude, not helpful and they dont care what type of insurance you have they're so lazy and will not run your insurance but will run your pockets to meet their monthly bonus. they say they will call you back and never do, you can have the best insurance ever and they will never follow up with you. you will never have the same doctor attending you which isn't a good look. if you enjoy waiting well past your appointment time, vague explanations and feeling like an inconvenience rather than a patient, this is the place for you. this office seems to operate under the assumption that patients don't need clear communication, punctuality, or courtesy. read more

Probably the worst practice I have ever visited. They don't explain anything to you and ridiculously over charge. Prior to my appointment I called 3 times to verify I would be seen by Dr. paydar (because I only see female practitioners for personal reasons) and when I show up to my appointment I was greeted by a male doctor. I asked if he was going to be the doctor for my appointment and he said "Well I think so?" and then turned around in a circle as if to show me no one else was there. The entire office then acted as if I was inconveniencing them because I declined and AGAIN asked for a female doctor. They tried to charge me $68 for a cleaning (which I confirmed with my insurance was free before I arrived!). I declined the service because of how uncomfortable I felt and asked for ALL of my records as I would like to go somewhere else, and they wouldn't give them to me. I had to ask the front desk 3 different times for specific things that they were acting like they didn't have. Then, they told me they wouldn't give me my records until I paid a $5 exam fee when I literally had no service done! All of their records are still handwritten so I'm assuming they didn't want to spend the time and paper/ink copying everything for me. Additionally, there were tool heads on the floor which led me to worry about how sanitary stations are. read more

I've come back to rate this dentist because I'm STILL to this day dealing with their mistakes. I came here over a year ago and they told me I had a cavity between my two back molars. They said they had to work on both teeth and between them. The female dentist was having a hard time finding the right tool to mold my teeth? I'm not sure what the tool was for but it seemed to go around my tooth. Kinda like a metal ring ? I didn't think anything of it until later that night I went to floss and there was no space between my two teeth. It was very concerning! It hurt to bite on that side. I went back and they did an X-ray. She had left a shard of something between my teeth and that was hitting my gums. She removed it and filed between my teeth and left a gap. This gap would later cause food, especially meat, to get stuck and irritate my gums and cause them pain and bleeding. I reluctantly went back and everytime they said "oh sometimes it happens where food gets stuck in the teeth, it happens to me too". Don't come here, the dentist don't know what their doing. Practicing on your teeth and billing your insurance. Office staff were very very nice, didn't have any problem with them every time I went. read more

I guess I didn't read the reviews of this place properly. I will absolutely not be returning. I came here as my regular dentist had retired and sold the business so I thought now might be the time to find an office closer to home. The only thing this office is interested in is extracting as much money from your insurance company as possible, oh and you too! I have a great dental insurance that usually covers exams, X-rays and cleanings 100%, but this place wants an extra $30 for just the exam and x-rays. They also came up with all thousands of dollars of work that I apparently now need, funny that my old dentist never mentioned that? read more

First of all I used to be scared of the dentist, but Star Dental is AMAZING!!! When I came to star dental I was recommended by a friend who said they are gentle and will make sure you don't feel pain. My friend was absolutely right. I am sitting in my car in their parking lot right now. Just had a wisdom tooth extracted. And it was so fast and easy I'm shocked. The doctor was very nice and explained when I would feel pressure or a little pull. He was nice and patient, not rushed. From start to finish was about 40 min from walking in to walking out. The place is super clean and professional. All the staff I saw where friendly and happy. I have found my new dentist! Absolutely 5 stars!!!! Wish I could give 10 stars! read more

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO STAR DENTAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR TEETH AND YOUR MONEY. It took me over a year to leave this review because I've been so traumatized by Star Dental that I haven't wanted to even THINK of them. However, I'm kept awake some nights at the thought of another person going through the ordeal that I endured. So if my review helps one person, my mind is at peace.  In less than 2 years, I lost three teeth and had probably well over 10 cavities. Sounds excessive, right? Of the three teeth I lost, the first crown decayed underneath in about a year. The second root canal was done so badly that it broke that same night---cracked off right under the gum line costing me many appointments, an expensive trip to her buddy the specialist, and lots of money to STAR Dental to "build" the tooth back up. The third tooth decayed under the crown in 16 months. Three of their fillings have popped out. It's been crazy, and it's not just me. My husband went through an unusually bad checkup there as well. Speaking with them about my dissatisfaction was like talking to a brick wall. STAR wouldn't take responsibility for anything and instead blamed me. (Just look at all the negative reviews, each person is shamed and blamed.) I will say that it was Dr. Auyong who did this to my mouth. Avoid that man like the plague, wherever he is---RUN! Since leaving this place, I've only had two minor cavities in 14 months and that tells me all I need to know.  So, if you've never taken advice from a stranger, I'm hoping you do so now. I had to have one of my back teeth, which was broken pulled out today. Alls I have to say is bravo to dr Christopher and his lovely assistant which I apologize for not getting her name. I'm already a nervous person when it comes to dental work, but from the moment of the first visit up until after the procedure dr Christopher made me so at ease. The office is clean, the staff is amazing and it's lovely you get to watch tv while waiting for your procedure to begin. Thank you for making my dental experience as enjoyable as you possibly could. I'll be back next week for the fillings that need to be replaced. This office never fails me, I needed a root canal for a nasty infection dr Hernandez is amazing. We came to Star Dental in Riverside because our Dentist in Costa Mesa wanted thousands of dollars for a single extraction and an implant. Star Dental advertised extractions starting at $80.00 and an implant at $699.00. They did keep their word on the $80.00 and the $699.00 but the ad failed to mention that would not be all the cost. Since we are on a fixed budget, the cost is everything. By the time the Consult was done, they had added a 3D X-ray, a bone graft (said they always do bone grafts on Implants, yet they failed to mention that in the ad), an abutment and other services totaling over $3000.00 NOT covered by insurance. We explained to the people doing the "Financial Consult" that based solely on their ad, that their advertisement was misleading. They got us in thinking we could get this done affordably, and then added things not mentioned in the ad. or over the phone when we called and told them the reason for our visit. We felt we had wasted both the Doctor's time and our time. read more

Super long over due my fellow Yelpers! I've been coming to Star Dental for almost 2 years now and the whole staff is really friendly! I believe most insurance is acceptable here; however, call them just to double check. Location: It is in those strip plaza which means if you have options to go wonder around, if you're waiting for someone to get work done here. There is a thrift store next to them, rite aid, and a few other small stores along with places to eat. Cleanliness: It is clean here like I mean CLEAN!!!! Whenever I go I always see a staff member sanitizes the dental tools. Everyone here always has a mask and glove on. And you never see personal staff members items laying around. Like a Starbucks drink on a counter for a example. So it's reassuring to know this place doesn't kid around when it comes to being clean and safe. Staff: Everyone here is really nice as I mentioned earlier. They call you when it comes closer to your appointment. The dental assistance are always making sure I'm doing okay, or if I want the TV turned on to ease my nerves. Honestly cannot complain about the staff and service. Seriously they go out of their way to make sure YOU are comfortable. Another thing I noticed is they make the effort to remember everyone's names. So you feel welcome when you come to your appointments. Dentist: The work they do is great! I've got my cavity issues taken care of here. I HATE HATE HATE those damn needles to numb me, BUT they do such a freakn amazing job here I don't feel it. So kudos to you guys!!! So what I'm trying to say it they're so gentle when they work on your teeth issues, and always checking to see if you're in any pain. So don't be afraid to tell them you need a break or it hurts. They are here to work with you to make sure you have that great bright smile to show off. I came in needing a surgical extraction on my molar and they were so kind and helped to get me get seen the same day! The office manager Tayna and Natalie were so nice and caring and really showed empathy that I was in pain and know I have special needs children and it's difficult for me to get someone to watch them so made sure I was taken care of, same day! This was my first time coming here, and I'm going to come back again. I have had bad experience with dentists in the past and I do have a serious fear of the dentist, but they made things easier than most! So... for a long time I had a fear of dentists and dentistry. Blame a bad experience when I was nearing the end of highschool to put the fear in me. Fast forward about a decade, and well.... you know what happens. So I got over my fear PDQ when my problems started, and with the help of a nice dentist in my former place of abode, I now don't have a problem. Star Dental Group continues with not making me fear that little whine of the polisher, nor fear the needle. Now, they aren't as super high tech as my last dentist, so hence why I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 star (instant computer xrays, ultrasound machines, etc... plus my prior dentist had a nice dog to help sooth the fears) review, but the staff is top notch, the doctors very understanding and non-judgmental, and the front staff über cool. read more

They get 0 stars from me!! So, on my first visit I was getting crowns. The lady came and sat next to me with a print out saying my insurance only pays half, 50 % but what they didnt know is before i got there, i I checked my insurance to make sure it was covered 100%. I told them i would call my insurance to verify and they said "no, no dont call your insurance we will contact them and then contact you, I get a call 15 minutes later telling me that im right, you are covered 100% (Red Flag)..What if I wouldnt of caught that? How many other clients were charged and told their insurance only covers a portion when in fact it covered everything? My crown chipped within 6 months so i go for a repair. I ask them the cost, they tell me nothing because this is the best material and it shouldnt of chipped like that. then I get a bill in the mail that they charged my insurance over 900 dollars. ( Another Red Flag) So I investigate what they charged me for. And the code they submitted was for a nasal augmentation and a bone graph, a service that I didnt need or receive. I brought it to their attention and i told them that I notified my insurance company. They basically said oops it was an error and they'll fix it. (Red Flag).. what if i wouldnt of caught that? I encourage everybody that used this dentist past and present to LOOK at what your insurance pays for and whether its covered 100% or 50%. I guarantee you, that some of you were charged out of pocket fees when your insurance pays everything!! Im going to file a grievance against this company because I believe a lot of people have been taken advantage of and the fact that they came with a print out telling me what my insurance pays for which was a LIE but the average person dont investigate so they get over on you. I understand if you make a mistake but to keep making "mistakes" that cost money makes me believe that this a normal part of their practice. I know it's hard when reading a one-star review to not be skeptical that the reviewer is just on a witch hunt. But I'll share my experience & you can decide if this dentist is right for you. The office is aging, but still in decent condition. The staff is friendly enough. Not shockingly, they tried to sell me "upgrades" - and by sell they calculate the upgrade into your total as if that just part of the cost & you have to be keen that it's an optional cost. But again, kinda to be expected at a run-of-the-mill dental office such as this. They quoted me for a crown but considered it "elective" since the tooth underneath has no signs of decay. My current crown is visibly broken, has a piece missing from it. But because the tooth underneath isn't showing signs of decay, they won't bill it to my insurance, & instead want me to pay out of pocket. So, like any well-informed individual who is being asked to shell out thousands of dollars would do, I got a second option from a well-rated & popular dentist in Riverside. Of course, his estimate of the work varied from Star Dental. So when I went in to get some work done at Star I asked if I could only get fillings on some of the teeth (the ones my second-opinion dentist noted as needing treatment). I know no professional wants to be told their opinion was questioned & reevaluated, but that is my right (& a wise one at that). When I spoke with Dr. Paydar, attempting to create an alternate plan, she grew quickly annoyed with my request. I believe I put forth an inquisitive "Could-you-please-do-this?" tone & not one of condescension or judgment. I wasn't asking her to scrap everything, simply to reduce the number of the fillings. But she was clearly not please I wanted to modify (or scale down) her treatment plan & stated abruptly, "Well, I'm not comfortable doing this." And that was it. The implication was, I don't want you questioning my professional opinion so your business isn't wanted here. And out the door I went. So, I'm sad to see there are still healthcare professionals who have a my-way-or-the-highway mentality. I can't attest to the actual quality of work, since I never reached that stage. My daughter has had not so great experiences in the past with dentists, so she was quite fearful about her check up. The staff at Star Dental are caring and gentle. The first check up was a breeze, and my daughter had a great experience. At a subsequent visit for a few fillings, I feared she would meltdown because of the novacaine shots. Went there for treatment for tmj, they prescribed me a $400 night guard. Had issues getting the impressions bc supposedly my mouth was in between sizes so they had to do the bottom of my mouth. Spent the $400 out of pocket on the mouth guard bc insurance doesn't cover it and they assured me it was necessary and my only option. Wore it for months with no relief to my tmj. Went and sought a second opinion from another dentist. Turns out they prescribed me the wrong night guard which was squishy instead of hard which would only be useful for grinding which they knew was not an issue I had. Anyways I'm out $400 and still have tmj flare ups consistently. In order to get the right mouth guard it'd be $500, which would be $500 I don't have because again insurance doesn't cover it. I have a friend who goes here also, she also receives inadequate care but she's almost done with her treatment so there's not much else she can do. They get two stars because I recall all the employees being nice to me, however the care I received was terrible. read more

Waiting...waiting...waiting. If you show up 15 minutes before your appointment, have your insurance information ready, fill out your papers and take a seat, you'll wait. Then you'll wait some more. Then they will take you for your X-Rays. Then make you wait. Then the doctor will come by and check you out. Then you'll wait. Then someone will come by and tell you they don't have time to do your cleaning and you have to reschedule. When you say your appointment is for both an X-Ray and cleaning, they will say "we can't guarantee that". In addition, they will find a way to charge a couple hundred dollars for a standard cleaning. They will try to sell you everything but the Brooklyn Bridge. They care less about patient care than they do about making money. There are 5 other dentist offices within a 3 mile radius of this place. Go to one of the others. read more
