If anyone employed here reads this, yeah you know exactly who I am. My friend and I were hanging out there and my friend spilled a little bit of beer (a total accident) and they kicked both of us out. I came back about 10 minutes later politely asking to speak to the manager (I admit I was a little mad but still very reasonable) and the security guy literally shoved me out. I called when I got home still trying to give them one very last chance to listen to me and hear my side and the person on the phone said "shut the f*** up." Very poor service, very poor business, and very unprofessional on the phone. I'm probably banned, and I don't care I'm never going back anyway. If you want to save yourself a night (and a dollar), I would recommend never considering here. And yeah, you probably know who I am, and I'm not sorry for any of this. read more

The food is okay, the bar tenders are super good, the prices are fine, the location isn't the best. And while the KJs for karaoke nights are always fun, funny and chill, there are a few regulars here that make the experience totally suck. They're rude, snobby, and act like they're better than everyone else because they're ALWAYS here. Oh you snobs, shut the F up! DUH the Star Bar is a dirty, freaky, sweaty, stinky, shite-hole. No argument there. But it is also an amazing hub of festering Spokieness that no other bar can compete with. So grab some friends and hit up the star on a Thursday night for some Karaoke and beer. Word to the wise, though, you must get there early if you want to sing a song because the Star regulars quickly fill the list up. For example, every single Thursday night an angry dude screams the song "ALL THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR" at the very tip top of his lungs. It's a good thing, because I know if it wasn't for this one weekly outlet, he would be bombing planned parenthoods. Or if you want to brave the weekend scene, be sure to check out the bald, obese, man in suspenders. He looks just like an egg and has some of the hippest dance moves Spokane has ever seen- you can't miss him. Two weeks ago there was the skinniest, frailest, old hippie showing off her ballerina skills as the band rocked some "Huey Lewis and the News." She was in her socks. Ahhh, the Star. Interesting. I like to pride myself in being down with the dive bar and I still am but I think this is too BIG of a dive bar? Dive bars are usually small (in my book) and they usually know they are a dive. People were serious here and pretty serious about their karaoke which ended way too early btw. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My husband and I served as Americorps volunteers in 2013 in Omak, WA, and we had a very fun experience at this bar singing karaoke when we visited the volunteers in Spokane. Now, 5 years later, we returned when my husband was interviewing for a medical residency. We thought, why not stop by for old time's sake? We were so excited to relive those goofy memories. Now, a little background. We currently live in Chicago. We are both 27 years old. We both have drivers licenses from Illinois. I received mine in 2015, and he updated his in 2017. Illinois changed its design sometime between when I got mine and when he updated his. So, back to the present. We walked into the bar, looking forward to a fun night. The "bouncer" looked at my husband's ID skeptically, but let him through. He looked at my ID for a split second and then yelled "THIS IS A FAKE!" and held it over his head, out of my reach. I immediately protested, as did my husband, and he said "I'M GOING TO CONFISCATE THIS AND CONTACT CAMPUS SECURITY!" We were like... what?? Campus security? I understand this bar probably has to be vigilant with Gonzaga kids trying to get away with stuff, but neither of us had any affiliation with the university whatsoever and we are 27, for God's sake! We tried to calmly explain that he should look at the issue dates to see why they looked different, but he kept yelling belligerently and saying he was confiscating it. We panicked, because we were supposed to fly from Spokane to Chicago in two days' time, and I needed my license to travel. So, my husband demanded that this idiot release my ID or he would call the cops. The guy got in my husband's face and then basically ran to the bartender, still waving my ID. The bartender tried to talk sense into him but he wouldn't listen. My husband again threatened to call the cops if they didn't give back my ID, and finally the bartender told the guy to give it back. As we left, the bouncer basically chased us to the exit, flipped us off, then looked at me and yelled "F**CK you f****ing c**nt!" Wow. We were both so shaken, and I in particular was terrified. I came here with a friend for lunch. It was after one, & we were about the only ones in the restaurant portion. We eyed the Bubble tea board, then the waitress/owner(?) came to seat us. The menus were skinny but bound. I quickly decided on getting the combination choices, & my friend agreed they sounded good. The waitress noticed we were looking at those pages and came to tell us they were out of BBQ pork, sweet & sour pork, and ribs. I'd been wanting to try the ribs, but there were still plenty of things to choose from. I decided on Almond Chicken, Sweet and Sour Prawns, Pork Fried Rice, & House Noodles. My friend had Almond Chicken, Egg Roll, and Sweet and Sour Prawns. I forgot to order my meal without onions, but fortunately the noodles were the only dish that came with onions. I love noodles, but these were my least favorite of the dishes I ordered, mostly because of how few noodles there were - it was mostly vegetables. I loved the pork fried rice - it was the first thing that disappeared from my plate. My friend said she liked how crispy the almond chicken was, & as soon as I had a bite, I agreed. My husband would love this! The sweet and sour sauce was a little too thick for us; my friend said that she'd order it again, but would ask for the sauce on the side next time. I'm definitely going to come back & bring my husband so he can enjoy the almond chicken, and maybe we'll try a bubble tea. read more

This place can be cool but can also be scary. Some of the people that hang around this bar are super sketch. If you plan to go here go in groups and its no problem. Thursdays are the big night for GU kids to go there and it makes the crowd a little less weird. If you want to do Karaoke you need to be there to put your name on the list by 11. Sorta good deals at the bar but the, would definitely recommend either the Bulldog of Jack and Dan's over this. read more

Star Bar is completely bourgeois. That is French for low class, but it is a fun place to drink, and sing karaoke. We had an after party after a school reunion. It was perfect. This place has a natural charm. Glad places like this exist. read more

LOTS of college students, which can be a plus or minus depending on what you are looking for. They have Karaoke every night with is nice if you have an urge to sing, but if you go on a Saturday, you can easily wait 2 hours between your songs. Drinks are okay, nothing special. read more

Small mom and pop shop with the the best Taiwanese food and bubble tea in town. The cook is generally also the wait staff. Very friendly but expect a very laid back, old but clean atmosphere. read more

The star.had a great time. First time there. Needed to find a place with a live band on saturday night in a pinch.Well i did and was very happy.The drinks good just watch the prices of your drinks cuz my same drink price changed three times.The band great.They even sang happy birthday to my nephew when asked.In their own way it was great.The service was very nice the waitress puts up with a lot.She put up with my brother in-law.heha.So if you want a fun place to go with some friends try the place out.Our group had a lot of fun. :) read more
