I decided to try out Star Salon since it's close by the house. The staff seem nice. I had medium-long hair and requested to cut up to chest length with layers and pointed ends. The stylist started off by cutting the length of the hair as if a kid was cutting the Barbie's hair, which was fine to me at first because I assume she would fix it later. Next she sprayed the water and sheared the hair that comes down along both sides of the face near the ears and done. The hair cut took less than 10 minutes. I asked the stylist what happened to the layers? She said oh the hair is too short for layers. I only do layers for long hair. I do front layers for you. Then I asked can you cut the end with pointed end? She said no I do round for you (blunt, uneven, rounded ends). She then grabbed the mirror and show me. At that point, it was a waste of my time to ask or argue. I ended up with blunt rounded end for the back hair and pointed end for the front hair. My fingers can't even slide through the ends because they're too thick and choppy. This salon seems to be okay cutting men or boy's hair, but I would not recommend for long women's haircuts. read more

The people are nice and Melanie is wonderful but anybody else just doesn't know how to cut hair right. I've given many chances because this place has nice employees but I always leave with uneven hair in the front and back. It's even more noticeable because I have bangs and need to tie my hair up often. There's big noticeable gaps in my hair rather than smooth layers that blend in together. I recommend going to C T salon in Manteca, wonderful service and great cuts. They fixed me up amazingly, they're really good at doing Highlights too! read more

My fiancée wanted a cute pixie cut and one of the ladies gave her more of a man haircut. We were not happy, satisfied with this service and had to go to the nearest salon for another haircut where they gave her a feminine haircut which she loved. She even showed her a picture but the lady at the Star Salon got rid of her side burns and it was uneven. I wouldn't recommend unless you want a guy haircut!! read more

My review is based on my experiences with scheduling appointments with Star Salon. in many occasions and when arriving to the confirmed scheduled appointment time, they salon would take the walk ins to avoid losing business, even though other client's were scheduled for those times. Making the customers who previously scheduled appointments wait for 30 minutes +. This business is always trying to bite more than they can chew, and cannot handle nor have the staffing to provide quality service. Most recently, I scheduled an appointment one week in advance. When arriving to my appointment, they had taken another person who was just getting ready to begin the haircut. They asked if I could wait and I asked how many people were In front of me, the owner checked with her employee and I was told if I could return the following Monday. This is extremely poor customer service and they have no disregard for customers taking the time out of there day to drive to a scheduled appointment and then be turned away. read more

I have been going to Melanie for over 8 years now and she is the most talented person i know. I trust her with all my hair issues. She refers products to use which has made my hair so much better. Affordable and personable. I love going to this place. Nothing too fancy and uncomfortable. I go to her for all my hair needs and she does her magic always. I'm new to Lathrop and needed a new hair stylist. Star Salon was the closest to my house so I disregarded the two reviews and still went. When I walked in I was greeted by Melanie, one of the hair stylist and kindly told that her current customer is going to take awhile so I can save my spot by signing in and coming, which was really nice of her but I chose to stick around because once I go back home there's no way I'm going back out lol. Anyhow, when it was my turn she called me and I went and sat in the chair. She asked me how I would like my cut to be and then started. The cut neither too long or felt rushed. She did an amazing job! I've came back several more times and will keep. I'm glad I found Melanie. Melanie's awesome!!!! read more

I like coming here because they remember my family and I. I know that sounds cheesy, but it makes a big difference when someone remembers you! Melanie and Sue are the two women we have do our haircuts. They always take their time and make sure you are happy with the service they provided. I also love the fact that they let you know if you end up not liking something over the next few days, they will fix it if you just return. I will NEVER go here again. I have gone here a few times for a basic cut and it's ok, but never the best, but you get what you pay for. I went a few months ago for simple highlites and it was ok, but the highlites started about 2 inches from my scalp so it looked like I already had 2 months of out growth. I went back on Monday and asked her to go to the scalp. I don't know what in gods name she did, but it is terrible. I have attached a photo. When she was done she tried to rush me out without handing me a mirror to check the back so I asked for one and when I saw this I asked her what happened and she said in 5 days it will be ok and just don't push your hair down. What!!!! I am so mad that I even ended up paying her. I did ask for a discount which she gave me $10 off and I ended up paying $80. Again, you get what you pay for. I called for an appointment and was told to be there at 11:30. I didn't specify any of the two ladies working there. I arrive in time and Melanie was working with a customer that ended up finishing her at 11:55. I showed her the picture of the hair cut I wanted and she started it on a rush. Meanwhile another lady arrive at 11:45 for an appointment with her. She finished my haircut in less than 10 minutes and when I looked at the haircut it was longer of what the picture showed she argued back saying it wasn't. I told her I wanted more shorter and she was frustrated I was taking more of her time! I got upset and told her ok I'm done, payed her and left her a tip. (I don't want her to think I was looking for a free haircut) I told her to not make appointments if she is too busy and she said "otherwise I couldn't squeeze you in!" I was like I never asked to be squeezed in! I asked for an appointment! Meanwhile the other lady helped one appointment and a walk in.... She could've done my haircut but for wherever reason, I guess however answer the phone gets the client?
