I brought my old car Rafaello in for a Star Smog last week, and was treated to some stellar customer service. After dropping off my keys, I set out for a walk, thinking I could make it up to Safeway for a muffin and back before the emissions inspection was complete. I was only a few minutes up the road when I got a phone call. "The car won't start." "Seriously? I just had the starter replaced. Okay. I'll be right there." I didn't want to leave my car in the way of any other potential customers while I figured things out, so, I asked the employees if they would help me push my car into a parking space, and they kindly obliged. As soon as the car was in the space, it decided to start again, so, I drove it straight back to the mechanic. It turned out that he had made a mistake, which he took accountability for, and was able to resolve. Several hours later, I returned with Rafaello (my car). The sales clerk seemed to recognize me, and wasted no time getting me checked back in. I was soon advised that, because I had just had work done, I would need to take my car on a long drive to clear some things out, so that it could pass smog. At least, that was my understanding (I don't know anything about cars beyond what the DMV legally requires me to know in order to operate one). So, I took a nice drive out to Bridalveil Fall on 50 and back, barely pausing to admire the waterfall, which was surrounded by tourists. "Third time's the charm," I thought, as I pulled into Smog 'N Go for the third time that day. Finally, my car passed the smog. There was a coupon on their website, so, altogether, I only paid around $60 for everything, including the tax and certificate. I had looked around, and this was definitely the best deal in town, especially considering that there is only one other Star certified smog center in Folsom. If I remember correctly, this was now my third time having my car smog checked at this facility, and I have had great experiences every time. Honestly, I would give these folks 10 stars. I walked in with my DMV paperwork. The extremely nice representative got me all squared away, which took a minute or two. Then they pulled my car into the bay, and I was out 5 - 10 minutes later. I was there a total of no more than 15 minutes. Sorry some folks did not like their experience there, but this is a go to place, for me. Please, if you had a bad experience, get over whatever the glitch may have been. There was nothing wrong with my car. The first time I went to check, they said the car was not ready and would not pass it. They said the second time would be free. The second time I checked it with a car code reader, all the items on the car were ready, but when I went to their store, they wanted to charge $8.5, casually saying that the car was not ready, and would not let the car pass, and asked the car to run more. I changed stores and they passed it immediately. I still had to go to this store to waste time and money read more

I've been going here for years but decided to finally write a review. I was a walk-in on a weekday around 11 am and realized that I had forgotten my DMV paperwork at home in my rush to leave the house. I told them that, and they said no problem. They had me in the system already. The guy next to me had also heard my situation and said he too had forgotten his paperwork. But it was his first time here that day, so he obviously wasn't in the system. But regardless the staff here was able to take care of him. I waited no longer than 20-25 min from start to finish, and I was in and out without any issues. I checked in to Yelp and got $10 off during my visit as well. You check in and they tell you it's $59.99. When your car is done you then tell them you have the $10 coupon from their website and they tell you it's still $59.99. Surprisingly they already applied the coupon even though they didn't know you had it. They even have it on their paperwork that it's $69.99 and they magically take off $10 for everyone. So it's a dishonest gimmick to trick people into thinking they're getting a deal. Plenty of other places out there. read more

The techs were very rude and kept interrupting me. Entire place was completely filthy and unorganized. They looked up diagrams for my vehicle on GOOGLE instead of a certified database. Then proceeded to fail my vehicle based on the WRONG ENGINE. Completely incompetent and don't know basics about vehicles. Also denied the fact that after I got my car back from them, smoke was pouring out the tailpipe at idle (my vehicle has never had oil or emission issues). This by far the worst smog place ever. I had a VW Jetta and these guys maybe either had a vengeance to fail cars or a pure lack of technical knowledge. The used a mirrored scope to go under the engine covers, saw a intricately shaped PCV valved and failed my smog. With a note that the "crushed PCV valve" It took me hours to purchase a new and original VW valve and unopened in wrapper and showed it to them that the design from the original was angular and not straight tube. Refused to refund, I then took the car to another location and it passed without any issues. Do not go here if you have had any problems with a catalytic converter! Ours was stolen years ago and an alternate model replacement was installed (approved by CARB at the time). However, it was not an exact match. I knew this going in and told him before things started. They did their test and failed only because it was not an exact match. Rather than verify that the catalytic converter was approved the young man at the counter said to take it elsewhere, but still insisted I pay for the test. Absolutely no customer service! First time here. They kicked a wire loose under the dash and claimed it was like that when I drove in. It was not. Refused to plug it back in. Now my fog lights don't work.
