I called for an estimate for rear brakes and rotors. I was quoted a price and when I took it there the next day, without looking at the brakes, they quoted me an extra $180. When speaking to the manage who gave the quote the day before she said she was busy and didn't actually price out the parts etc. NO compensation, no reduction in the price to make it right, just this has never happened before. Went in for an alignment and asked them to investigate the transmission fluid as a prior mechanic reported it smelled "burnt." They were able to get me in and out in short time. $99 for an alignment of a compact pickup was the cheapest of the three places I called around town. The staff were friendly and their lobby was comfortable. Parking is a little tight in front of the service bays, but I found a spot. read more

Feeling frustrated after we took our truck in for a brake inspection. The inspection cost $80. We aren't used to taking a vehicle in places and being charged a diagnostic fee and if we are it is usually waived when you go with them for the work. In this case they don't deduct the inspection fee. They didn't verbally say the inspection fee would be $80. It was on a piece of paper we signed at the bottom. If they are trying to be transparent I would recommend they verbally tell you all fees before services, not just in writing because it was missed by us. Because of this I don't think we will go there again. I don't like that they don't waive an inspection fee if you use them for a repair. I get they have to do what they have to do to run their business, but many other places don't do this. Feels like it is sacrificing customer service for a little extra profit. Leaving one star because of the customer service, pricing, and transparency vs their work on vehicles. I can't speak to their work on vehicles. read more

These people are complete money leeches. I took my 2014 Audi A4 there a year ago and instead of being honest about what was wrong, they were completely lazy, dishonest, and completely inconsiderate of my financial decision. I had low oil pressure and knowing what I know now the first step would've been to check if there was carbon build up. About 2 grand deep into the engine they finally got the genius idea to check if there was carbon buildup which they then determined was a "completely spotless" engine internal. They then advised more stupid parts and costed me another almost 5 grand that DIDN'T fix it. I then took it to a new shop where they actually took the time to inspect it and determined the carbon buildup was "the worst they had seen," not "completely spotless." Thank you folsom motorworks for your complete incompetence and inconsiderate behavior masked by your hours of "free labor" aka, letting my car probably sit in the bay while you work on something else. Recently lost cold air from my automobile air conditioning unit. Took the vehicle to Folsom Motor Works, Folsom CA 95630 (703 Bidwell St) for diagnosis. They "claim" they pulled the compressor down to 10 mmHg and it held there for 30 minutes. At that point, they recharged Freon and charge me $190 for the Freon and sent me on my way. Within two days system was blowing hot air. Upon leaving, I asked: is there any warranty on the work that was done and it was blatantly stated no!! After the system failed in two days I called and spoke to the manager Rob an he stated that the shop definitely stands behind their work. He told me to bring the vehicle back in. This morning they ran a diagnostic test to determine where the leak was actually occurring and determined it was from a crack in the condenser. Not sure how you can pull down a compressor to10 mmHg and have it hold for 30 minutes if there is a leak in condenser. It would immediately leak and would not have held the delta at 10 mmHg during the 30 minute pull down period. I was told they could replace the condenser ($850) but they would have to recharge me again for the Freon ($190). I was not expecting to hear this when Rob's reply to me earlier was that they definitely stand behind their work. Stay away!!! Replacement of the condenser and recharge was $850. Not at all happy with how I was misled when they stated they "stand behind their work" and yet it is quite obvious they do not. It was take it or leave it at that moment. One star would be to gracious. Can assure you they will never receive my business!! Not even a referral to patch a flat tire. Crooks!!!!!!!!! read more

Awful Experience Rude people Called to check on car and multiple times were rude and had attitude

I brought my 2011 GMC sierra to get worked on it had a lifter problem . They fixed that and it left with a whole Nother set of problems . From low oil, incorrect spark plugs, and yet they won't pick up their phones, I get put on hold every time from the manager and the owner. They won't help me out or anything to get this problem fixed or resolved. I have made numerous attempts to contact and reach the owner and or workers. At this point I'm not sure what's left for me to do here other than make a complaint to BAR and BBB. Wish they treated there customers a lot better here and would stand bye there work. Great service techs. I've been going to them for 12yrs. No problems. Folsom motor Works has been around , it seems like forever.

Made an appointment onsite in the repair office to have my car worked on. He verified he couldn't get me in until a week later and set the appointment. Called back a week later, day before appointment to verify. Made nine phone calls over 2/3 of a day to get past their forever busy signal, only to find out they lost any trace of my appointment. Asked Manager why appointment was erased. Manager then simply said he didn't want to work on the car because I was upset the appointment got totally erased. Very unprofessional. Never in my life have I had an auto repair place lose my appointment. A week wasted. I work as a cashier and have all types of customers, from excellent to the once in a while grumpy person. I handle all professionally. The girl answering the phone and the manager at this place are extremely unprofessional and don't have a clue on how to deal with people. I highly recommend you go elsewhere. In addition, they wanted to charge $170 just to plug in a meter and read codes to analyze the problems. A total rip off. You can get a similair analysis done at AutoZone for free. Don't believe me? Try it. I have an Aircraft Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics license and know when I am being ripped off. Liars cheaters and THIEFS. They did work on my car on two separate occasions and stated several times the work was not done there when I knew it was. No apologies just attitude!! They over charge and DO NOT adhere to warranties. Faulty computer systems not to mention tell you that more work needs to be done when it does NOT. You know, the tensioner/pully for the alternator. Lady tells me one thing on the phone so I set an apt and when I get there they tell me something entirely different. Such a waste of time and they aren't even that reasonably priced. We will be taking our cars elsewhere **In response to Rich. That is false! You wouldn't know what I scheduled because I didn't talk to you on the phone. I scheduled an OIL CHANGE and tire rotation and told the lady my maintenance light was on when I spoke to her on the phone. She said no problem, bring it in and we will take care of it. I have been a loyal customer to Folsom Motorworks for some years and these guys are always getting the job done right!! They are always busy which is a good thing because this means a locally owned business is solid and thriving amidst economic changes providing a needed quality service. I've had to use the night drop on occasion and they always get repairs done in a timely and reasonable manner. This year I've been car shopping and decided I will not consider purchasing if the dealer won't allow me to get it inspected by my mechanic. I've had 4 prospects so far and they have done thorough inspections on all of them. Rob has been willing to work with me every time i scheduled inspections. Unfortunately none of them worked out for me for various reasons, but I sleep well at night knowing I made the wise decision of paying a small price for a pre-purchase inspection as a requirement before committing to a large purchase. I have faith the right one will come along but in the meantime I need to change my timing belt! I brought my 2004 530i SMG here after researching around. Various shops wouldn't install customer supplied parts. My particular part (clutch slave cylinder) would cost over 2k if brand new. I ordered a refurbished part from a specialty shop in germany for about 200. I was a little skepitcal of their knowledge of bmw smg transmissions, but they seemed smart enough to figure it out. Rob and his crew were super nice and very versitile. The shops that would install customer supplied parts estimated me 1.5x-2x the price. Even though the time allocated was more than he had expected, he still only charged me the initial estimated price. Good honest work, but I was surprised they charged the same as a dealer. I had them check out my car before a long trip as well as change a belt. I had thought the engine making a squeeling/grinding sound on start was the belt. They replaced the belt and told me the sound was actually the starter. I needed to get my car back that day, so I planned to schedule an appointment for the starter replacement. Because Folsom Motor Works isn't opened on the weekend, I called the local dealer and was surprised to find their cost was the exact same as Folsom Motor Works. Terrible Experience! I took my car here to get the starter replaced. They replaced the starter and it works great, however immediately after leaving the shop with my car I noticed a burnt smell and the wheel alignment was off, neither of which I had a problem with before I took the car in to be serviced. I took the car back and calmly explained the situation hoping they would be empathetic and at least listen to my concerns.
