The Starbucks at Howell Mill is exactly what Starbucks should be. I remember a time when Starbucks was a cool place to work, and a cool place to hang out. That vibe has slowly gone away as more stores have gone micro drive-thru, with cookie cutter appearances and barista clones. Starbucks used to me more about creativity and self expression, but now it seems the majority of stores are attempting for that cut from the same cloth approach. With the baristas all having that same "Starbucks personality". You know the kind I'm talking about if you've ever frequented on a regular basis. This is not true of Howell Mill, and for me and its regular customers, it is what makes this location so special. Here you can still feel a little of the magic that made Starbucks special in the first place. The individuality of the baristas is intact. And you get the feeling that they would treat you like family. And indeed they do, as any of the regulars can attest, if you are a frequenter of the store, the baristas will get to know you and you will want to get to know them, and before you know it you're part of the family and they have become one of the most important parts of your day. Given this and the quality of the beverages served here, you're in for an inviting experience. The decor (having just been renovated in late 2012) sports an upscale retro meets modern look that is completely different than anything you'll see at any other Starbucks around. The second story has also been improved upon, with a large center table, ample side seating, and electrical outlets. Tucked away from the lower floor its an ideal area for college students to study or business types to work. All in all this is a Starbucks experience that as close to what you would find at an independent coffee house as you can get. And the employees are the driving force behind the experience Due to this it is important to note is the turn over rate at this location. You will find many of the same baristas here as you would years ago. This is a testament not only to the stellar management, but the baristas themselves who are dedicated to each other as I have seen anywhere. They are as diverse in styles and backgrounds as they are close knit and familiar with each other and their customers. I have heard whispers of upper management working to break the bonds that make this store such a unique experience. As it does not fit the corporate mold that has become standard Starbucks practice over the past decade. It would be a sad day to walk into this store and find another cookie cutter barista clone overly enthusiastic to take my drink order. As I am not looking for routine experiences, I am looking for unique and interesting experiences. I'm looking for the Starbucks that once was, the Starbucks that made the company what it is today. I was not having the best of days today, but the minute I walked up to the counter of this Starbucks, I instantly felt better. The woman at the cash register was so friendly and warm that it even made my day better. Even though this Starbucks is out of the way, I will keep coming here because of the experience I just had. read more

This Starbucks is just ok in my opinion. I've been to many Starbucks coffee shops, and this location doesn't really stand out. The baristas were nice but I asked for a white chocolate mocha and my cup was unfortunately half empty. read more

What can I say gotta love the overpriced lattes, coffee's and Frappuccino's. A Starbucks hot lattes can always make my day better, a cold latte can always quench my thirst on a hot day. I frequent this Starbucks 2-3 mornings/week as it is the closest one to my home. I love it! The staff here is nice and friendly. They're pretty busy in the AM, but they move the line with efficiency, so I'm never waiting longer than a few minutes. My lattes are always prepared consistently, which you would think would go with being a chain, but I can not say that about the taste of lattes I've had at other Starbucks. Although I usually take my order to go, I have sat here and enjoyed it too. I like the open, airy, 2-story building. It's pretty unique compared to other locations. read more

this is my favorite starbucks. if i get there on time, i am the only one in line. i am a regular, so they know my drink by heart: venti soy latte with no foam. yummm... the staff is always friendly and always efficient. 5 stars to you, Starbucks! This is my favourite Starbucks!! They move the line so quickly! They never run out of items... and the best part to this location is Amir!! He is THE best barista! They used to have another amazing barista named Luis but he is no longer there. If Amir was to leave too, I would be devastated! I love coming in for my daily coffee and seeing him. read more

The Starbucks is the worst. Every single time I come here it takes twice as long as the app says for my drink to be made, even when I mobile order far ahead in advance. I have left a drink here before because it was taking significantly longer than expected and I had an appointment to make. Totally unacceptable. read more

Probably my favorite Sbux location in Atlanta. No matter how long the line looks, they're super quick and get you on your way fast. I also think this location is best from a consistency standpoint; no matter who is making my drink that day, they always taste the same. The location on 14th street in Midtown could take a cue from these guys! read more

Meh. The experience was unfortunate. Went earlier today and ordered a chai tea latte that was basically milk (sad because I ordered a venti). Staff was a bit tragic. They weren't really great listeners. I'll maybe have to give them another try another day. read more

Sunday May 16th 2021 I was out having a wonderful day with my girlfriend and stopped to have some Starbucks. We arrived at the Atlanta GA location at I-75 and Howell Mill Road approximately at 545pm.  I used the restroom and made my way to the counter to my order. I noticed immediately that one of the workers (which I later found out was the manager) look as though she wasn't having a great day. She asked for my order and I replied "I'll have 1 black coffee, 1 Chi latte and one cheese Danish". She kneels down to retreive the Danish turns while kneeling and flings the Danish 3ft across the opposite counter and it lands on another already opened Danish. I thought to myself that was very strange. At that moment my gut told me that this visit could easily go down hill. I placed the order and moved over to the pickup area. (If you need evidence please roll back your cameras on Sunday May 16th at approximately 550pm). I also noticed she was training a new employee and her delivery wasn't very nice. I felt embarrassed for him and it made me feel very uncomfortable watching this play out in the presents of me and other customers. I could see he struggled to impress his coworkers on his new job. She focused on him cleaning and staying his area. In my opinion (as a manager) you should focus on the customers and attend to their orders. Keep in mind there's a third employee restocking and cleaning items and is noticeable quite with her back towards the customers. This employee has been employed with this location for over 5 years and is always conversational with the guest but I'll come back to that. I'm waiting and notice 2 customer ahead of me pickrd up 3 pastry bags and I say to myself (not assuming verbally) one of those bags belongs to me. I now hear the manager tell the trainee to shut down the ovens and she began to empty the cash registers. I knew at this moment it's all going down hill (due to early closeout) The managers condescending tone and body language begins to intensify. She shoves the cash drawers, empty the tip cups and slams it down on the counter. It was so loud that another customer I looked at each other and shook our heads in disbelief. Were now waiting for over 15 minutes and I'm starting to think to myself "this doesn't take that long?" (note there's approximately 4 people in the store). The lady finally called for my latte and I asked "where's my Danish?" In that moment all of my presumption were confirmed. I asked for a manger and just my luck it was the most unprofessional one of the three. In the chaos I asked for a refund for the Danish and she said "the cash registers are closed and we can't warm the Danish. She proceeds to offer a credit/ coupon for $4 off next visit and that's all I can do (with a look of take it or leave it). I'm standing here with a look surprised look on face and think. "I put up with your attitude, watched you talk down to a fellow employee, waited approximately 20 min for this"? By the way the 5 yr employee was too embarrassed to even turn around and the new employee was kind enough to apologized 4 times! I have so much respect for that employee and stated to him he wasn't the problem. It was apparent that I was not going to receive my hard earned money back so I decided to leave. While departing out the door I turn to the manager and stated to her "you must change the energy in this business because your energy is bad and that's not good"! She said "excuse me sir, you have use the side door". I stated to her "I leaving out the front door, you figure it out". I'm a manager and will never treat our customers like this one or belittle our employees like I witnessed today. My many years of supporting Starbucks end today. Slowest. Starbucks. Ever. And you're lucky if they get your drink right. The last 3 times I have come in there are about 8-10 people waiting on drinks, and it takes you 5 minutes to get through the line. The Starbucks' near my office are 5 stars compared to this place. read more

I LOVE Starbucks. Especially as a place for studying. Unfortunately, this location is one of the busier locations so it is difficult to find a quiet space. This is the first Starbucks I have been to that has an upstairs and downstairs set-up (huge plus) and a few options for larger study groups. Also unique is the offering of wine and beer at this location. The Caramel Macchiato I ordered was made just right and the barista was nice. Overall, I'd recommend this Starbucks if you are in the area and wanting to sit and chat, but not if you are looking for a quiet place to study. read more

Hate to sound like a moan....well actually no, it's honesty...This has got to be one of the worst Starbucks I've been to in the world! Terrible staff-the faces on them like a petulant child told to clean their room, attitude like the child then had their favourite toy taken from them. Coffee was bad, I mean how hard can it be-you ask for no caramel on top, not sugar free or hand made soya milk.....just do not put no caramel and then she squeezes the stuff on like she is watering the flowers at home. The place wasn't even busy and it was as if they were making a house it took that long-I mean if a Starbucks in Beijing can cope with thousands of people this bunch could cope with 5! Was trash and spills on the floor it was like that were waiting for it to pick itself off the floor! So yeh, pretty bad! read more

I love this Starbucks. I don't live nearby and the parking is ridiculous, but I will drive out of my way if I am anywhere near it because I love it so much. They've never messed up my drink, and I'm picky. The staff are super personable. I'm a pretty introverted person, but I've never left without having had an interesting conversation with a barista (or two). Even yesterday I had one with a NEW guy. Even got a smiley face on my cup, and one of the baristas coming in to start his shift rushed ahead of me so he could hold the door for me on the way in. It's the little things, y'all. read more

This Starbucks rocks! Traveling a lot, I've seen my share. This was the cleanest, quickest (for being really busy), the most efficient staff, the kindest, high quality product and basically just the best Starbucks experience I've ever had. This is the closest Starbucks to my job and it's the only reason why I frequent this location. The staff is consistently cold and they ALWAYS mess up my order. They always loose my drink order or they are too slow. One time I waited 40 MINUTES. There are also always little things wrong if you know what to look for... (Such as when making a Refresher, you're not supposed to shake the berries inside of the shaker bc they will fall to pieces in the drink....) I've let these little things slide the numerous times I've visited because I don't want to be THAT customer, but I just need to put my frustrations out into the universe. I used to work at Starbucks a long time ago and THIS is not the Starbucks that I remember. Maybe the entire staff needs to be retrained? A word of advice: Don't come here if you are peculiar about your drinks and care about consistency and quality. Do yourself a favor and drive down the road another two minutes to either Atlantic Station or Peachtree Battle. read more

This Starbucks is pretty standard as far as Starbucks goes, but the wait for drinks is crazy long. Most orders come in via the app, so if you walk up and order, expect to wait 15-20 minutes, which is what I've experienced the last couple of trips. read more

This is one of my favorite Starbucks in the area. I love the room upstairs where you can sit and get work done. There's plenty of room and plenty of outlets. They do play the music a little loud that makes it hard to concentrate at times. read more

I've been to several different starbucks all over America (Gold Card member) and by far this is my favorite one! It's OK in size, upstairs and downstairs ;not the perfect meet up place unless it's a small group of no more than three!! The staff is always friendly, however, they aren't familiar with their menu items and that can be a tad annoying when ordering, or asking for suggestions. Today I made a mobile order because I knew i was pressed for time (traffic on 75 was a nightmare) I ordered a Venti Caramel Macchiato w/ coconut milk, extra shot. (Hey it's Monday morning!) Got to work and the drink was horrible. Now I know more often than not my associates at work had complained that their drink was incorrect and I've had one or two drinks be not the best. I usually do not complain because to be honest it's usually three to four dollars. However, when I pay 6+ dollars for a drink I feel a little annoyed when it's not perfect. I decided to give them a call to let them know my drink wasn't what I expected and was totally shocked by the response. The guy I spoke with was Chris (part of the management team) and he immediately apologized and asked what could he do to make things right, I said well I would like my drink remade, but not now because I'm already at work. He asked where did I work and after I told him he said he would remake it and bring it to me! I AM NOT KIDDING THIS WAS HIS EXACT WORDS!! I was totally blown away. About 10 minutes after hanging up with Chris he walked through the doors with my drink in hand, and he also gave me a card so that my next drink would be complimentary. The customer service and general care and concern has totally shocked me! I never in a million years expected Chris to go out of his way to make my Monday morning a little more tolerable! I definitely plan on letting EVERY ONE know of my amazing experience with this location! read more

I visit this Starbucks fairly often, and each time I come it is never clean. The tables are always dirty and trash overflowing with trash spilling onto the floor. Coffee spills all over the floor. Stairs leading to the upstairs are filthy. Store needs a deep clean read more

I love Starbucks and this Starbucks is convenient for me because I work nearby. There has been a couple of times where I have received the wrong drink. I decided today that I will not be going back to this Starbucks again. I was willing to overlook the long lines in the mornings ( certain baristas are slower then others) I do want to point out that the staff is pretty friendly all except one distinctive female. But just not enough to go back and pay four bucks to get the wrong drink. read more

I am an avid Starbucks coffee drinker. The location was easy to access and had a great store. At the time I went, there were 3 males working and the one who took my order who was wonderful. As far as the other two baristas they needed a major attitude adjustment. They made me feel as though I did not fit into their "ideal" eclectic customer. Which, I find amusing. I always enjoy my coffee and good atmospheres. I've even been to the original Starbucks in Seattle. Which was awesome. But, this "vibe" was ridiculous and they need to look into an adjustment. We are all different and everyone should be treated equally. Even if I don't fit into your "eclectic" stature. Lol read more

I feel lucky that this is my neighborhood Starbucks because the people behind the counter are wonderful. They're efficient and genuinely funny, especially some of the guys in the morning. Sitting upstairs by myself or with a friend feels like I'm away from the craziness of the world outside. People are quietly and respectfully working, studying, or visiting.
