    Starbucks in Bismarck ND
    Bruce K.

This Starbucks is along the main drag of commercial businesses and restaurants in Bismarck. It's close to the Interstate as well, and I'm sure their drive-through is helpful for folks passing through on what is likely one of the most boring highways in ever. I ordered a simple tall blonde, but they did not have any drip available. The barista offered, and I accepted, a blonde americano. Tasty and the right flavor, it was not burned coffee at all. That was nice. Bonus points for the specific snack I like - Moon Cheese. The shop is clean and the condiments area was well cared for. As much as I prefer to avoid Starbucks, this *is* Bismarck ND. I'll be looking for alternative non-chain coffee shops but I can't imagine that there are too many. [Review 10540 overall, 307 of 2019.]

    Great peppermint mocha!

Not sure how the inside is but I went through the drive thru. The staff on the speaker and at the window were very friendly! They make a great peppermint mocha. Wait time in line wasn't very long either. Very convenient location!

The cashier was a very friendly nice young man. He was talking to his coworker and she said, "Did you say something about Tupac?" He said, "No, I said 2 AM." She said, "Oh, I knew you were not talking about Tupac because you're not very gangster." This kid was the complete opposite of gangster. If you are curious about why am relating this, it's because that's what they were doing when they were not making my drink. I was just standing there watching them. Obviously I am not in Seattle. I have lived within a few miles of the first Starbucks store in Pike Place market for the last 20 years. The coffee in Bismarck is different. It was kind of off tasting--a little bit burnt-- I'm not sure how that could happen when you're just pulling an espresso shot. Starbucks is usually a consistent brand.

    Not busy...at all.

I don't like Starbucks too much but at times when your on the road the app comes in handy. Always other Starbucks are prompt with their orders and always is here when I arrive...except this place. We waited and waited...and waited. It's the least busy place in the boonies yet they don't know how to take app orders apparently. Sad.

Midnight Mint Mocha Frap - good stuff!

We were greeted right away as there was no one else in the restaurant. Its an open floor plan with two rooms. Im guessing its quite lively in the evenings. We shared the chopped salad and the Daisy pizza. The salad was good, though not a traditional chopped salad--it used that trendy wild greens mix that so many restaurants are leaning on these days. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but the menu did specify it, so that one's on me for not paying closer attention. The pizza, however, was absolutely terrific. The crust was soft and chewy with just the right amount of char from the stone oven. The combination of the sauce, cheese, and fresh basil was spot on. They also drizzle a flavored oil over the top--we couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, but it added an extra layer of flavor that really elevated the pizza. We devoured the whole thing--three slices each! At around $20, the pizza might feel a bit pricey, but it's clear that everything is fresh and made from scratch, so it's well worth it. Service was attentive, though we were the only ones there at lunchtime. I imagine this place really comes alive in the evening. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu--and next time, I'm not sharing my pizza.

For a small restaurant, they also have an impressive wine selection. We started with the garlic bread, hot olives, and meatballs -- all of which were flavorful, balanced, and absolutely delicious. For entrées, our table had the breaded walleye, the Bolognese pasta, and the Porchetta. The walleye and Bolognese were outstanding, but unfortunately the Porchetta was a big letdown. The skin was chewy rather than crisp, with a thick layer of unrendered fat beneath it, and most concerning, it still had visible pig hair. I was expecting the classic combination of crackling skin, melting fat, and tender pork, but instead it was oddly undercooked on the outside, dry inside, and after biting into hair, I really lost my appetite for it. We finished with tiramisu and a torte, and both desserts were excellent -- a strong way to end the meal. Overall, Anima Cucina has a lot going for it: charming atmosphere, friendly staff, great starters, and standout entrées (other than the Porchetta). I'd happily return for the appetizers, pasta, fish, and desserts, but I'd avoid the Porchetta based on my experience.
