I have for many years been a Starbucks fan. Yes the coffee might be a bit pricier than it is at your run-of-the-mill coffee shop. However the coffee is infinitely better than at most run of the milk, coffee shops. As I am a coffee aficionado I've tried many coffees from many run-of-the-mill shops. It's not just that the coffees are very good reliably strong, which I like, but it's also the fact that Starbucks attracts people who seriously enjoy coffee as well as the ability to sit and chat and socialize. Socializing while having coffee is one of my favorite past times. I have for many years gone to this particular Starbucks in Hingham. And over the years I've made many true and long lasting friendships. So the friendships and the coffee savoring continue. The ambience at the Derby Street location is comfortable and clean. The manager has told us that we will be getting new furniture there soon. Notice how include myself by use of the word "we". I look forward to this. My favorite coffee is not one of the fancier ones: it's a dark roast with extra cream and sugar. However, I also truly enjoy an iced lavender latte with lavender foam, a drink that is not only tasty but beautiful. I also like to have an iced caramel macchiato for a treat. If you wanna have an especially yummy pastry, I recommend Yuzu Citrus Blossom croissant. It's a flaky pastry filled with a zesty, creamy citrus filling that tastes like lemon. Delicious! Finally, I truly recommend this particular Starbucks because the manager is so good that there's very rarely a turnover in staff. This says a lot about management. As a friend of mine likes to say people don't quit their jobs. They quit their managers. This Starbucks location is the Java equivalent of the Cheers bar. Come join the festivities! read more

Trying to get in the door, the automatic push door opener doesn't work. Should've known then it was an issue for a brand new Starbucks. I walk all the way around an oddly set up line to order, and order my drink. It took the barista three times to understand my order -she kept confusing it with another drink. I specified my milk and topping twice yet she still looked at me blankly and asked me again. After waiting 14 minutes, and watching the new working board of orders, I finally got my drink. I left and it didn't even taste like the drink I ordered. It was incorrect and honestly I didn't have another big chunk of time to waste to attempt it being corrected. Came in to have my regular but asked about cold brew.."how is it different?" Nick replied, "less acidic". I asked could I have a taste? Nick gave a free sample, and so I ordered a full cup. Then I asked Nick, can you heat up cold brew and still keep the low acid, so he steamed my nearly full cup until it was hot. It was delicious. Pro tip: There is no drive thru at this location. This is by far the most unfriendly starbucks I have ever been to. Barista making drinks was literally slamming and throwing things, and loudly mumbling about how making a specific drink was a waste of her time. I thanked her for making my drinks, and was completely ignored while she picked up each cup in her queue and slammed it on the counter. That being said- this starbucks was slammed and needed more than two employees working the entire store. Painfully slow wait for drinks, because they were so understaffed. Management needs to fix this. This was probably one of the most unpleasant experiences that I've ever had at a Starbucks. Upside? Drinks were well made. Service needs massive improvement. read more

The staff at this Starbucks are the oddest bunch I've ever dealt with out of all the Starbucks I've been to, and I love the chain. One time I was told that there not supposed to heat a donut that I get EVERYDAY at the other locations, even though the whole point of the new pastries line that came out months ago was that there supposed to be heated. Another time I was told that they shut down the oven/microwave for the night, even though everything was still displayed. So I thought oh! Maybe it's close to closing time and when I checked my phone they didn't close for another 45 minutes... Asked for a bold said there out and all they had was the pike place kind... What? Slowest service I have ever experienced in any Starbucks location. This morning, their labeling machine broke and a huge crowd was waiting for their orders. Thirty five minutes passed, I received no drink, so I reminded them that I had been waiting an asinine amount of time for a coffee. They handed me the wrong drink, so I left it there and left without a refund or a beverage. I simply did not have any more time to spare or patience for the incompetence. read more

I have been a Starbucks customer for years and regularly at this Hingham location. It seems that their service just keeps going down hill. The last time I was on there in the morning in addition to waiting in line (which I would normally expect) I then got to the register and no one waiting on me for 5 minutes. I just stood there. Finally someone came over and when they rung up my card it was out of $$ so I asked if I could add $. The girl attempted to add $ but could not figure it out. SO I waited and waited and finally I said I think I have a free one on my account could you just do that since I need to get to work. She rolled her eyes at me and then another person came over and helped her fix the card $. Next I had to wait to get my coffee...not unusual but after all this I did not even see anyone working at the steam (Latte) machine....more waiting. Very disappointing experience. They have also been making more mistakes with my drinks and although they correct them they used to give you a free coffee card when they screwed up, which I think they should bring back. They need to do something to improve the customer experience here! read more

I received a dried up old piece of pumpkin pie cheese cake t. Had one bite and it was hard rubber. When I went to return it the person in charge, who also dished out the piece, made me feel uncomfortable for returning it that I found my self trying to defend myself. It was obvious to look at. It is one of the larger Starbucks in the area. The staff is very friendly, but it is definitely one of the slower Starbucks in the area as well. I'm not expecting it to be like a Dunkin Donuts, but there have been times where it's painful wait for a drink even when they aren't too busy. However, in all my visits, I've never received a wrong drink. I like this location because it is one of the larger Starbucks and the atmosphere is very cozy. However, getting in and out of this location is extremely tricky. You take your life in your own hands if you try to make a left out of the parking lot on to Rt. 53. read more

I lived in LA for a little bit, and I got into Coffee Bean and Starbucks briefly, but I quickly realized how much faster my checking account was shrinking than it needed to, so I knocked it off. Now, Starbucks only has one use for me: The New York Times. You can't get it anywhere else in the South Shore of Boston. Today, I went to the Hanover location and they didn't have it. So I called Hingham. The woman not only checked to make sure they still had some, but she held one for me. It actually had my name on a sticky note on it when I got there. The BEST Starbucks in the area. While it's true that most Starbucks have employees that know your name and drink preference, this one knows the names of the various toddlers and children, and always greet them by name and a grin. They all are always smiling, friendly and professional while maintaining a warmth instead of a cold, disinterested demeanor. Pam, the manager is on top of her crew and has a wonderful way with the customers. I love Starbucks, I go almost every day, however this Starbucks has disappointed me two days in a row. I normally live in CT, but I'm from the south shore area and was home visiting this weekend. I stopped by for my regular latte yesterday and they had used the wrong syrup. I didn't notice until after I left and I just shrugged it off because they were busy so I figured hey mistakes happen, right? Well I went back today and the exact same thing happened, only I noticed this time before I left because when the barista stated my drink out loud, he said the wrong syrup. I said oh this is actually supposed to be this, not that. He seemed annoyed and told me he could just add the hazelnut syrup into the vanilla latte he just made me. I was dumbfounded. How is that going to fix the problem? I asked if he would mind just remaking the entire drink, to which he said yes, however he seemed very annoyed that he had to do so. I've only experienced normal or really no wait times, no matter what my order has been. Staff wasn't friendly. I asked the barista if they sell or make the bottled vanilla frappechino that you can buy at box stores. She talked back me in my opinion with attitude. I tried to explain it to her and she said something about making a legit vanilla frappechino. I just agreed to it so they began to make my order. I was waiting there for my order when I can hear her clearly talking about me. "Like what even is that, I told her" blah blah blah. Then the woman making it put whip cream on it when I clearly said I didn't want any. And she was watching her! She put it on the table and said here you go.
