First time for us.. read their reviews before going and was convinced to go. The clam chowder was good but had an odd spice flavor I could not figure out.. but our meals were so so good! I ordered the Rueben with funky kind of house fries but tasty. It was OUT OF THIS WORLD to be honest. A bit messy to eat.. best to ask for your sauerkraut on the side like I did as it will make the bread wet and slimy so I added it as I ate. Took half home it was so filling. He had the pot roast with mashed, gravy and mashed turnip which he doesn't care for but he gave his meal a 9!! We sat at the bar where our bartender Alan was great! He took very good care of us. All in all we would come here again in a minute. I saw lots of other meals go by that looked fabulous.. they serve breakfast till 2 for you late risers and all the breakfasts I saw at the tables looked fantastic! I highly recommend coming to this restaurant. My family and I came here for breakfast time and it was very delicious. The food was very fresh & everything was real it wasnt frozen food. We all decided to get the Hungry Man Breakfast so you were able to try a little bit of everything and it was also for a good price too if $16. Very big portion. The service was also great. Been here once before on my own and had a pleasant experience, so I decided to bring a friend back months later. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different. When we walked in, we stood there awkwardly with no greeting or direction--an employee even walked right past us without acknowledging us. Once we finally got a booth, there weren't enough menus for both of us, so we had to share one. Things only got worse from there. Our server left, and another staff member approached us with a noticeably loud and condescending tone. When my friend asked for a Coke Zero, instead of simply saying it wasn't available and offering an alternative, he responded, "No high-end restaurant has Coke Zero." That comment felt unnecessary and out of touch--this is a casual brunch spot, not fine dining. At that point, we decided to leave. The overall interaction made us feel unwelcome, and the tone toward my friend in particular felt different and uncomfortable. As a darker-skinned person, he left feeling like he was being spoken down to in a way that didn't sit right, and I honestly felt the same witnessing it. Food was good but I won't be back. The place was dirty. The waitress was cleaning up something on the floor right in front of our booth using a filthy mop. Two employees almost fell on the wet floor then they decided to put a caution wet floor sign out. Then someone came out to dry the floor with rags on their feet. After drying it the rags were filthy. Lately I feel like I am overly harsh with my reviews, but then again the cost of dining out has increased and the quality has slipped. Here are my expectations. Competent service and hot properly prepared food and value for my dollar. Went for Sunday brunch, we were greeted and prompt seated. Our waitress came over took our drink order and explained what they had for brunch she was friendly and provide great service while we were there. Now for the not so good. Every item on the buffet that was suppose to be hot was not. Sausage cold, potatoes cold pancakes cold, pasta cold, fish cold, the only item that was at proper temperature were the made to order omelets and again the chef was very professional and friendly. Even the " we also have a selection of deserts" was a selection of one type of tiny coconut brownie?. Also I noticed what seemed like a couple managers walking around dressed like they were working in a garage and not a restaurant, also watched one of them reprimanding staff in front of guests. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. The food was hot and fresh. My problem is with the young man who brought our food to the table. He was wearing so much colone, which lingered in the air the whole meal, I could not eat. (He was standing behind me) People dont understand smell sensitivities. Have been a regular customer for Breakfast and Dinner - 5 plus years. My partner and I recently went on a Friday night and thought it very odd at dinner time, there were 2 cars in the parking lot. A waitress seated us. Came back a few minutes later. I ordered a specific Pinot Grigio- my partner a soda. 10-15 minutes later the drinks arrived; at this point we were ready to order. She took the order of Chix/Broc and Ziti & Steak tip dinner with a sub of fries instead of potatoes. Meal came and it was average at best. Bland, over cooked pasta, best we can comment on was the fries and how they came out. There was only 1 other table in the restaurant- 4 women. When my wine came and I tasted it a few times, I knew something was off. I explained to the waitress and she looked confused as to what I ordered and and mumbled and took my wine away. I pointed to the menu and told her this does not taste like the wine I ordered; can you please pour me another glass. I heard her go to " the manager and state " she could not get the wine bottle open so gave me another glass of what was open". Hearing this conversation did not sit well with me. Instead of going to the manager in the first place, she purposely gave me a different wine, hoping I would not notice. We received the bill and we noticed there was a $5.00 upcharge for subbing either potatoes for fries or extra broccoli. When we asked our waitress why this add on was on our bill, she could not give us a straight answer and again looked stumped. Her answer" I don't know this is just how they do it here". We asked for the manager. This gentleman comes over in a suit that looked like he belonged at the Roxy 20 years ago, overpowering smell of cologne, clearly that should not be around a food preparing enviroment. He asked us what " the problem was". We explained that we wanted to know what the extra charge was for. He also did not have an answer. We said, this should have been told to us by our server or it be documented in the menu if there was any type of upcharge for subbing. He was not customer service oriented at all, clearly wanted to fight with the customers who are clearly asking for a reason we got the $5.00 extra charge. He then stated, well you ordered extra broccoli, that is why you got that charge. We replied, the meal comes with broccoli, we did not order extra broccoli. We asked for the money to be taken off the bill as we are being charged for nothing. Alex I believe his name was, was very argumentative, did not want to listen or accomodate. Out of frustration, we left the exact amount of the bill and started leaving the restaurant, and this Manager Alex kept antagonizing us as we were walking out the door. In all my years in the Restaurant Management Industry I have never witnessed a manager as him. We asked who the owner was and he mentioned " Michelle". I do hope that the owner/co-owners, customers and future customers read this in it's entirety. We have had great experiences with wonderful staff members for the breakfast rush. Have seen the same faces over and over. This was the very first time we experienced this type of Customer Service and behavior from a Manager that should put every Customer's needs and requests, issues, problems first. We will never walk into that Restaurant again due to this experience. Word of Mouth also gets around fast. Might be why every time we drive by at dinner time, there is no one in that restaurant. None of them seem trained in Hospitality. Awful Service, except the waitress who served me. Came in on St. Patricks Day this tuesday. Ive worked in the F&B industry for over 13 years. I walked in and noticed a young male (highschool maybe) handling cover charges. Mind you, this place is off a highway in Weymouth near a Walmart. Not the city of Boston, let alone southie. I asked what for? He responded it was for live music today. I heard music but it didnt sound live. This was around 1pm. Why are we charging cover at 1pm? The holiday? I got explained the cover charge and the worker did not asking anything else about how they could help me. I walked in hoping for great service, bartenders, food etc. I mean why charge at the door for awful service? I wanted a drink or two and charging money to step in at a restaurant/bar on a tuesday just bc of a holiday almost turned me away. I went to the first counter I saw because there were drink menu stands on it. I waited about a minute or so for the lady behind the counter (breakfast counter?) who didnt seem busy at all to ask "what can i help you with." Almost positive she noticed me sit down and didnt want to talk to me until I stayed seated long enough. I asked for a drink menu and she said "sure i want you to know that this is the breakfast counter and we dont serve drinks here" She then slid the drink menu on the counter. Not going to hand it to me? She then turned her back to me and ended the conversation. AWFUL SERVICE. Once again, not going to give me any directions at all? Tell me about the menu? Directions? After waiting to see if she would follow up with anything helpful (she didnt) I asked "Ok, where is the drink bar then" She did manage to respond to the question and seemed to know where it was. Its not her first day suprisingly. Why didnt she tell me that, instead of being rude and cold towards customers? I walk towards the smaller area with the bar where the music is coming from. Sadly, Im pretty sure there was only a DJ playing off of a laptop, Irish jingles. Maybe there was live music later? But we are charging anyone who walks in today before they arrive for a laptop connected to a speaker playing a youtube playlist? Or maybe thats the "live music" Anyways, I found a seat because the bar was full. Noone came up to me for a while. I walked up to the counter and asked the older man (white hair) working behind the bar around 1pm for a drink. I asked for a beer by its name twice and i guess the music was too loud for him or he doesnt know any drink names. He asked where i was sitting, i pointed. He then said "someone will get there shortly" He then went back to just standing around. Waited about 2 more minutes for service. I assure you the bar was full. Around 15 people. And maybe 6 other people at table near the bar. Didnt seem like any of the bartenders were that busy at the time. So. A cover charge at 1pm on a holiday at a restaurant located nowhere near for that to even be a consideration (Greater Boston) for a live band that didnt exist at that time. Poor Service from everyone I interacted with except the lady that handed me my drinks. Almost 10 minutes of my time wasted because noone seemed to actually want to provide any customer service. All of the customers there did look like regulars and by that, senior citizens who are all friends and family of the owner. Employees are all probably friends/family of the owner. I live extremely close to this place and its sad to know they are probably just a regulars/"i grew up with the owner"/"friends and family" only place. Honestly if giving non-regulars poor service, so they don't come back, is what this place is aiming for. They nailed it. Will never come back here. Edit: Just looked at recent low star reviews. Love this place. I go almost weekly, unfortunately. I went on a Sunday for my usual ( breakfast). Ummm it's a Buffett. 25 dollars and it was horrible! The home fries was saturated with moisture and soggy as heck. Horrible! The scrambled eggs was cold and old. Thee worst breakfast I have ever had. About ready to leave. It dawned on Me. A young man with two frying pans and he was making omelets. I went in to talk to him. He stated it was his first day. So I did not cry stomp and holler about the crappy breakfast I just had he offered to make an omelet for me. I figured how much worst can this get. He delivered the omelet to my table in the other room. Not only was it the best looking online I've ever had. It tasted like the best omelette I have ever had. This young man was polite, kind, and courteous and I left there feeling like I got my moneys worth. If not for this young man, I probably would've not returned ever again on a Sunday to pay $25 for wet soggy food and it would've took me a while to probably even go back. Recruitment and retention is key to running a business having the right people in the right place at the right time and this man certainly was in the right place at the right time. Was in Weymouth in area and stopped in to have breakfast 9:15am today. Dee D. Was my server very friendly and welcoming with a smile the place was nice looking inside. I got the Hungry Man breakfast plate, pancakes, toast, home fries, Han, sausage, bacon and 2 eggs. I got banana pancakes, light fluffy nit to heavy the bacon was crispy as I ordered, home fries tasted delicious, eggs over easy cooked perfectly, ham grilled tasty and sausage was cooked perfectly. I got raisin toast. Very hardy breakfast and good portion of food. This is a great spot free parking and plenty of seating inside at bar or Resturant area. I came to Mad Hatter, twice within 2 weeks since the food was so good. Its pretty busy on a Saturday, waited about 30 mins to be seated and the kitchen was very busy so our food took about 20-25 minutes to come out however it was worth the wait. We also came on a Monday where there was absolutely no wait. We ordered two "the hungry man" $16 which came with the option of french toast or pancakes, and "chicken and waffle" $16. This restaurant has its own parking lot which is always a plus for us. However if you plan on going on a weekend (before 1pm) you will have to wait a little while for a parking space to open. read more

just came back from Sunday Brunch at Mad Hatter with a group of 5. There was beef at the carving station when I first arrived at 12. Had breakfast food first. Went back for Lunch food and carving station was empty . Was told would be out in a few minutes. Over half hour later was still empty. First Buffet I have ever been to where there were NO desserts. Since a group, gave us separate checks. Server handed me mine and said yours is more because you had 2 orange juices. Would have been nice to be told that when I asked for another orange juices. Was $3.75 for a little glass. Food was also just ok. Will go back to my usual places for brunch that has unlimited orange juice, desserts and always replaces the carving station read more

We wanted to try a place we never heard of or seen before. This place checks off all the boxes. Very good service and we were seated right away. The waitress was very nice and helpful. I was torn between the Ruben or Cubano she said the Ruben is made from corn beef cooked in house. I just loved the Ruben. It was so delicious and huge, overflowing with corn beef, sauerkraut and cheese, on my favorite bread marble rye! I had an iced coffee with raw sugar, no where has raw sugar. My granddaughter had the breakfast burger. Yummy Cheese burger with an egg with crispy bacon. The place is very nice and huge. The service from the kitchen was superb and the Chef is very skilled. The potato French Fries were little scoops and cooked just perfect. Dyani got a lemonade and had a few refills free! We will definitely be back to the Mad Hatter. read more

Felt suspiciously racist when I tried to organize an event. The person in charge of functions, I believe her name was Eileen, was extremely excited about the prospect of hosting us and to work with me until she learned the cultural background of my team. All was good with my racially ambiguous voice and name just before this. When I told her who it was for, all of a sudden, it wasn't a right fit. I asked her exactly what wasn't a fit about it since it was fine prior to me mentioning who, and she couldn't expound any further. She just repeated it wasn't a good fit. I'm pretty sure i know why it wasn't a good fit. This is wild to me because as a Weymouth resident, I used to enjoy bringing my children here for their birthday brunches. Not anymore. There's only one reason The Mad Hatter would not be a "good fit" for a day brunch. Weymouth and its racist reputation is certainly being upheld by TMH. Edit 5/6: So I got the name wrong, big deal. Ughhh (insert ugly cry here)! The evolution of the Mad Hatter is a tragic tale of quantity going up and quality going down. They used to have one of the best breakfasts around...until they moved locations and expanded services to include lunch, dinner and a full bar. I wish they renamed\rebranded it, as it is not the same Mad Hatter it used to be. My husband and I first came to the new location for breakfast on a Sunday hoping to get the same food from the previous location, only to discover they do a brunch buffet on Sundays now. Excuse me, what?! Typically buffets are not known for the quality of the food. I was shocked to be honest that they would offer this based on the care and thought they seemed to put into every dish at the previous location. On our most recent visit, we came on a Saturday to avoid the buffet. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy and wheat toast. The hash was bland, flavorless and COLD! Luckily my eggs were still hot so I spread the yolk over the hash to warm it up. The toast - some pieces were barely toasted while others were not toasted at all. My husband ordered the hungry man breakfast, which is a little bit of everything. I had a bite of the pancakes which tasted like something was missing from the batter. They were also the smallest portion size of pancakes I've seen anywhere. I will rave about the Irish sausage though - so juicy and flavorful!! Much better than your average breakfast sausage. But that's about it. I can't recommend this place anymore unfortunately as it has gone downhill in recent years. read more

The service in this place is absolutely atrocious. We had to wait about an hour before our food was ever put in, and then we were lied to about when it was put in/coming out. The staff is unreliable and unwilling to do their jobs correctly. When we asked about our food, their responses were very snappy and rude. Along with this, they brought out the kids size for a few of our orders rather than the adult size, but then continued to charge us for the adult size. It also smelled like pot half the time we were there, so the experience was less than pleasant and I could write about a million things I would do before come back here to eat. read more

The move to the bigger space allows more room for punters - but, the food quality went downhill - bland, rubbery and really not worth the effort given $. Man, the smaller locale was an event - you may have had to queue for a table but goddamn that Irish Breakfast was the greatest in MA, and their brown bread - so sad to see what's happened.
