Starbucks in Old San Juan. That should not come to anyone's surprise. Their little store is in some of the best real estate in the area as it faces the water and is upfront and center. The Starbucks there is surrounded by a couple of local restaurants so after you get your coffee, you can go grab a bite to eat. If you're reading this, you're probably already familiar with Starbucks' menu but in case you're not, they have a lingo you have to get used to. Your small is their tall, medium - grande, large - venti, extra large - trenta. Their menu is exactly the same as you would find anywhere else so you can tell them your favorite drink and you'll get it in a jiffy. English/Spanish both work here. I had a few hours in San Juan while on a stopover during a recent cruise, intending to pick up a San Juan coffee cup as part of the Starbucks travel cup collection. I was a little disappointed when I was told they probably had some but they were in the back in boxes, and they wouldn't have them out until the next day, and seeing how I didn't think the Captain of my ship would wait for me, I went with my old standby of an Americano. Unlike most of the Sbux locations I visit in the States, this one didn't seem to have much in the way of seating area. This was a decent Starbucks, they do not seem to be a corporate cafe which explained why they could not take the app. No matter though, they were friendly enough. A little more odd then most Starbucks I have gone to. They had birthday signs behind the bar with birthday hats on each of the employees. For my girlfriend who has Verizon Wireless, the WiFi was very helpful as they do not have service in PR. Having AT&T, I was able to use cellular service as soon as we docked. Still, the WiFi was pretty fast and they seemed happy to give you the code for whatever device you brought with as long as you purchased something. Sad to say this is the least friendly Starbucks I have ever been in. I was the only customer at register and the female worker never turned around to even acknowledge me. Great clean location. I stopped here to purchase a mug for my daughter's collection. I was on a cruise that was docked across the street. The location was extremely convenient. The store was set up like most with several seating areas and areas to charge you phones and computers. I was greeted the moment I entered and I was waited on right away. This Starbucks was within walking distance form our hotel. We stopped here for breakfast and to stock up on waters for the day. Menu items were similar to the other Starbucks locations I have been to. Great customer service and the breakfast sandwiches were very good. They allowed us to keep coming back to the bathroom although we weren't buying anymore. They remembered our orders each time we came to order and our names. I could not believe how many people with laptops had situated themselves at this Starbucks! I didnt have a laptop but based on the 15+ people walking around with laptop in hand, I think this place offers free wifi. Just a heads up for people visiting San Juan from the States, but this Starbucks does NOT take Starbucks cards. I know...bummer. But dont worry, you'll still have to pay the ridiculous high prices for a coffee, so its like you're in the States. I didn't get much, only a water, but the wife got a frozen lattea and she enjoyed it quite a bit, it was warm, so it made sense. They have free wi-fi here, so it's a good place to stop, check email, get on media and see what else is around the ilsland. I walked around this place and found it to be one of the biggest I've seen in quite a long time, plus they have an entire office staff in the back that deals with all Starbucks on the island. I was so happy to find that starbucks is out on the island! I definitely stopped at this locations more than three times during the week I stayed in Puerto Rico, because I'm coffee obsessed and enjoyed a warm drink on the long drive back to my apartment for the time being. Sadly, some starbucks don't quite hit the nail on the hammer when it comes to the drinks, but this location never disappointed me. Each time I went I was greeted by different workers, but the drink was always great. I had an iced caramel macchiato, and white chocolate mocha's both iced and hot. They were good, this branch is also very spacious so finding a seat wasn't an issue. Stopped in here while at port (less than 10 minute walk from port) and it looks pretty much like any other Starbucks I've been to. They do offer free WiFi, which is nice for cruisers who need to quickly download their email and are trying to avoid roaming charges. As others have pointed out, they are not part of the Starbucks USA system so they don't accept the Starbucks card and your iPhone app will be useless here if that's how you typically pay. They did give me 10% off my bill though and I didn't even have to ask for that. Our ship had a Starbucks on board so I wasn't trying to get a Starbucks fix on this visit, but we simply picked up some bottled water for our kids. They offer seating both indoors and outdoors. I wandered into this Starbucks because I was exploring Old San Juan at around 6 AM in the morning, and by the time I was walking around the peninsula, it was only 7 AM and nothing else was opened. I decided to take a break inside this Starbucks, and was pleasantly greeted by one of the baristas who spoke very fluent English and even gave me a discount for having a Starbucks Gold card. (Starbucks Gold Cards / Gift Cards unfortunately do not work in Puerto Rico, but they can give you a small discount for the inconvenience if you show them your card.) The drink came with the usual Starbucks consistency and brand. No problems there. What I loved about this place was how spacious it is; definitely misleading from the storefront. In fact, it almost seemed like it just kept going as you keep walking in. There are plenty of seats available in the rooms deeper into the building. Awful Starbucks. Staff of four or five. Ten am. They all seemed stoned and only one working. Two chatting and flirting and another pretending to clean behind next to the cashier. The fifth dude went to the back and never returned. Line to the door and one coffee per five minutes being made. The cashier also made the food. The others talked. I asked for a mug not paper cup, she then proceeded to write our order on two paper cups. I told her I was trying to be conscientious by ordering mugs and not waste paper. Starbucks in Puerto Rico is as almost same price drinks as how much it is in New York City. This particular starbucks can be really busy. It is a tourist spot, it is located near the cruisehiphip port. It is a good feeling to have a taste of it after a long journey on a cruise without having them for like almost 4 days. Stopped here while visiting my hometown since last time I was here, Starbucks wasn't. Picked up my Puerto Rico coffee mugs which were sold in boxes, great for traveling. Some treats were based on location, and I had a quesito with Nutella, which they offered to warm up for me. Staff was courteous and friendly. Only drawback is that they don't take phone app or Starbucks reward card for payment but did mention that it was in the works. Those ARE NOT part of Starbucks and the hostesses of the restaurants they belong to will relentlessly chase you away!!
