i usually go to the other SB on the west side of the freeway, it's bigger, roomier and MORE POLITE. this SB really rubbed me the wrong way yesterday. we go to Einstein's for Wednesday breakfast with my awesome kiddos, but unfortunately forgot my wallet. knowing i have Apple Pay on my phone, we opted to go to SB for breakfast. ordered our drinks, and food, and tried to get the app up and running this whole time. it was frozen, and wouldn't load. asked the server if he was having any trouble with the app today, and he shot me a disgusted look and said "not at all, it's just you". i was beyond flustered all morning already. i apologized and smiled the whole way and said i'm sorry, i'm trying to get it to work. he stared me down, rolled his eyes, looked like the devil. i actually got scared and turned into fight or flight mode. i fled while the manager said "just put her on hold while she figures it out". i eventually got my phone to work, and came back to him. he tried to grab my phone to scan it, and i held on to it. he didn't tell me it went through, and so i kept it at the scanner. then he rudely said "it's done! stop holding it". OMG OMG OMG i broke down and told the manager (loud funny girl with awesome hair) that his service was unacceptable, and rude beyond belief. get another fast food job dude. maybe in south LA. it may fit your style a little better. done with location unfortunately. can't we all just be happy? i know i will be now. read more

I stopped off here after going to the 24 hr fitness around the block. This is a tiny location but fast and efficient. There is one woman who reminds me of a stern school teacher but the rest were nice. read more

Another Starbucks perfectly located literally right off the freeway. This one is perfect if you need a Starbucks as you're cruising up the freeway on the way to LA or stuck in the afterwork traffic going northbound and you need a quick pick me up coffee drink. Honestly, I drive up the 5 freeway northbound many times and this one seems to me the most convenient right off the freeway as you're in the Solana Beach area. This Starbucks in particular is part of my morning commute to work. The morning staff is awesome and knows my drink without me having to ask for it anymore. It's practically already being custom made as I walk in. Be aware that as you get around the 8 AM hour the line could get long. I like the personal customer service they give by getting to know their frequent customers. This one is pretty cool cuz they have a small secluded courtyard/patio seating out in the back. Overall standard issue Starbucks but with consistently good service. read more

Cashier was friendly. I ordered one drink and it took forever to come out - something very simple that at any other Starbucks would not take this long. There was only one cashier working and one barista. They did get 2 additional baristas later but too late. Service was still really slow. One woman in line behind me just ordered a coffee and had to ask the cashier for it after waiting 5 minutes (that should be quick, just comes out of the carafe and no special directions). Considering it is 6:30 a.m. on a weekday they should have more staff or at least a barista that can make drinks faster. read more

Convenient location for my commute so I frequently stop here. Why is it whenever I place an app order & I stupidly include a banana they ALWAYS pick out the nastiest, ratty, week past being edible one? The order I just picked up was the worst yet with 2/3 being smashed or liquid. Well shame on me but I finally get they don't care a whit about the customer & this behavior is probably an ongoing barista joke. Rude service. And bad drink. I had to ask to have it remade. Begrudgingly they remade it. 1- they put my lid and straw on the counter and then put it back in my drink. Bad hygiene move. 2- the drink is still terrible. It's an easy drink. Peach Green Tea no lemonade. There was something off about the drink. I've had this drink hundreds of times, this is not the tea they usually make. So my dilemma, do I ask them to remake it yet again? Or get something else? Or call it a loss and move on, $4 poorer. ($4 is not a big deal, it's the point of paying for a crappy drink) The staff here needs retraining, in drink making and manners. So disappointed. Update: my husband ordered me a different drink. Excellent location, very nice cozy decor that gives that small cafe feel. Sizable outdoor patio covered in plants so as to obscure the view of the freeway next to it. Staff has always been friendly. One of the better Starbucks locations. read more

Came in last week with a big 'ol order for my office. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficiently they got all the drinks ordered and then made. The place was pretty busy so it surprised me that they stepped up and gave me some good customer service. I even got all the drinks back with out spilling them, successful coffee run achieved! read more

Staff is super polite and friendly but commits huge ServSafe violations and usually doesn't get your order right the first time, so double check before you leave. This last visit, they gave me an incorrect food item, which was no biggie; but I take issue with the cashier throwing the food in the trash, then changing her mind and pulling it back out to give to the person prepping the correct item (I assume as reference) and THEN being offered the item again as a freebie "sorry we messed up". Communication and training are an issue here. read more

I stopped by to pick up a hot chocolate and specifically ordered no whipped cream. When I picked up the beverage, I noticed whipped cream. I explained to the barista that I ordered no whipped cream. Instead of making me another one, she complained loudly that she didn't want to waste it (with me standing in front of her) and proceeded to remove the whipped cream with a spoon and add more milk. Really, you couldn't make another. I will never be back to this Starbucks with lazy baristas. read more

Rude baristas and a weird smell inside. I don't see how they stay open when there's a Starbucks right across the freeway with better service and a roomier building. I expect a certain standard of friendliness and customer service from Starbucks and this location just doesn't do it for me. This is absolutely the best Starbucks in the area, and maybe the best one I've ever been to. The baristas are friendly, quick, and excellent at making the drinks. They recently remodeled it, and it looks fantastic. I live in Cardiff but I never go to that Starbucks because it's terrible. Love love love this one! read more

First off my favorite drink and just about only drink I ever get is a Mocha Frappuccino. This place knows how to make them the way I like them. Only once did they not make it to my liking but it wasn't horrible. The customer service is always great, cheerful, friendly, helpful and so on. Best customer service I have ever received at a Starbucks, and I've been all over So Cal and across country. They are great a moving the line without making you feel like you are being rushed. This is my second favorite Starbucks - would be first but it's tiny. Manager Ruth is fabulous - love her sense of humor! They are always kind and fast to serve. If there is a line I just order online and skip to the front. My kids love coming here - say their drinks are better than the SB west of 5 Obviously the same but I think they just know this one better. Anyway, it's always clean and not too busy most of the time. Occasionally I fear that my car will get crunched backing out of the from parking spots - huge SUV's ripping by because the mall entrance is right there but so far I've made it! read more

For the longest time--years and years--this was my favorite Starbucks ever. But the manager left and the staff has turned over and it seems to be an all new crew in there. Today, I was so furious I doubt I will ever return. I was "masked shamed" by a young employee, despite the fact I was wearing a mask! The music was loud, the coffee grinder was grinding, and the espresso machine was in use. The young woman cashier on the other side of the plexiglass could not hear me amidst all the noise (and lip reading, a tool we all use to hear others, is not an option in these days of masks), so I lowered my mask so that I could make my order, and that is when the young man making drinks at the espresso machine immediately jumped on me and told me I needed to have my mask covering my face at all times. Ok, I guess we need to be perfect about this 24/7, but what about the store's role in this? What about turning off the music? What about not grinding the coffee while people are trying to order? What about not operating the espresso machine while people are ordering? What about not having all 3 going loudly at once? It's very loud in the store. What about moving the ordering outside again like the store did in May when it re-opened? Mask shaming your customers is not the answer. All mask shamers do when shaming others is move the offending behavior underground. It's bad business. I'll go elsewhere. You folks keep it up, and you will have no customers. I guess that will be a virus free environment. read more

Check your bill. I was charged $13.35 for 1 tall and 1 venue latte. Of course it was a charge to my Starbucks card so I never saw it. when I asked for the receipt what they gave me was the receipt for the $20 I loaded. So I guess that leaves me out of luck. I have been coming to this location for a couple of weeks due to work and every time I come in I am disappointed with the customer service. The coffee is fine, no complaints with the actual drinks, but I am never greeted, the baristas just keep talking to each other until I interrupt them and ask for a drink. They don't thank me for my purchase and then then present me with my drink by saying, "here ya go man." read more
