Ian completed 2 weeks of training at Teddi Bear Swim School this past Friday. I was yelping for swimming lessons last year and Teddi Bear showed up. The ratings were high. I called Miss Teddi. She recommended that I go through the website and register for this summer only swimming classes that run till August 1st or 2nd week. She mentioned that it would take 1 to 2 weeks for kids to learn swimming. So, I had it bookmarked. I went through the motions in May, registered Ian for the week of June 25th with an option to continue the week of July 9th. About the school: Their website is well organized, the email correspondence, text correspondence and any other interactions with Teddi Bear staff (Instructors Christina, Alicia and Teddi) is very clear. Class is $150.00/week. Deposit of $75.00 is due prior to classes commencing. They accept e-payments. Due to the deposit, first week's balance of $75.00 is due on the Monday of the class week. Upcoming week's payment is due on Thursday if your kid is continuing on. About the setup: The pool where the swimming classes happen is in the backyard of a house. There is a yard sign in the front lawn. The big RV in the parkway is also cant miss. There is abundant street parking. You let yourself into the backyard, close the gate behind you, sign the waiver form at the table, pay your fee balance, take a seat and wait for your class slot to begin. There is a changing station in the backyard. There appears to be a bathroom inside the backyard garage. I opted for the 4-4:30 PM slot the first week as Ian also has Taekwondo at 6 PM couple of days a week. There were 6 kids per class. The first week it was Miss Christina and Miss Alicia doing all the training. Miss Teddi joined for a few minutes couple of times. The 2nd week it was Miss Christina and Miss Teddi doing most of the training. About the lessons: At any given time there are 2 instructors in the pool. After the initial 5 minute "warm up" instructors usually split up with each instructor surrounded by 3 kids. The first week was about getting familiar with water, balancing in the water and general use of legs, etc. The 2nd week was freestyle swimming, breathing, etc. Miss Christina is very vocal, encouraging kids with positive words of encouragement, holding the kids with utmost care, pointing out the aspects of swimming that are important, etc. There were kids who were crying Monday and Tuesday, but by Wednesday they were getting used to the swim lessons. The lessons being only 30 minutes long is helpful. Ian was out of breath couple of times. Instructors are definitely pacing the session keeping this in mind. All said and done Ian can swim freestyle after 10 days of swim classes. I am so proud of my son as he went from being afraid of being underwater to embracing the concept of swimming. I have to thank Teddi Bear Swim School as they were instrumental in making this transformation happen. I definitely recommend signing up your young kids to learn swimming here. My kids just finished two weeks of lessons and they have learned so much, even from day one. I've taken them to 4 different swim schools over the years, some to try and some for actual lessons and none were as effective as Teddi Bear Swim School. Mrs. Teddi and her daughter are great. I like that they are nice, yet firm. Every lesson feels solid; no time wasted. They give individual feedback/reminders to each child to help them understand where they need to improve. I didn't feel like any child had more or less focus than the other. What really helped was going daily for 30 minutes so the kids can remember what they learned and is easier for them to get back to where they left off the day before. Highly recommend this school and I hope we can come back next year. read more

If you wanna see fast results then you gotta register your kids to Teddi bear swim school! Staff is super sweet and encouraging! My kids and I absolutely love it! Miss Teddi and her daughters they work hard with each kid so they learn how to dive in and swim! My daughter was super scared of water and she would she scream and not go in.. but since she is here she actually look forward to go swimming.. she still whines a little but she loves it and enjoys the sessions! My son been going swimming for three years somewhere else and didn't learned much but in a week I can see he is doing much better and more confident! I have a 5 year old who was very reluctant to go in the water without a life vest on and was skeptical about him learning how to swim. On the very first day the instructors were able to get him in the water and he was dunking for rings and diving off the board. After 2 weeks of lessons he is now able to swim from one side of the pool to the other and isn't scared to put his head under water. He still isn't amazing at swimming, but I believe this was a great base to start off with. If my schedule had worked I would have been happy to keep him in class for as long as he needed, but because it's mon to fri 30 mom every day it was difficult to stick to. I sent my daughter to this swim school & after her lessons she didn't want to get into a pool that whole summer! To have a child (that has never even been completely under water before) jump into a pool "swim" to the side, then get out, then jump in "swim" to the side, then get out, jump in, "swim" to the side again, get out, etc etc for 30 mins straight is WEIRD! There was no teaching them to kick properly, no teaching them to float on their backs, no teaching of arm technique, NOTHING but jump in, get out, jump in, get out. When a child doesn't feel comfortable going under water or they don't know how to swim to the side, the last thing you want is for the child to be scared of the water by NOT teaching them to swim but jump in. I was a swim instructor myself so I know what works. I would like to ask those parents of kids that went to this swim school, if their kids can do one of the most important things, which is float on their backs? They probably say NO! read more

Hands down the best swim school. My kids have gone to different swim lessons - cities, private, one on one, group.. you name it. After spending thosands of dollars for two kids past few years, I am lucky that I finally found Teddi swim school that can teach my kids how to swim in 3 weeks! I originally felt they didnt "teach" kids much but just practicing and repeating everyday. However, my kids magically know how to swim like a fish "all of a sudden". Their teaching pattern really works very well! I cannot be happier with the result and just kicking myself wasted so much money before. LOVE Teddi Bear Swim School! This is the 2nd year that my son and daughter are taking swimming lessons here and they love coming as much as they did last year. All the instructors (Teddi, Christina, Alicia, and Donald) are incredibly patient with all the kids. They know how to push them just enough to get them swimming better. Lessons are every weekday for half an hour. I think having lessons every day is crucial to learning to swim. We moved to Northern California in December & signed our daughter up for swim classes up here. We knew she needed a refresher. I was excited when I saw they had a similar format to Teddi Bear Swim School. Several classes a week (only M-Th though) for a half hour same time each day. I don't think my daughter even got her head wet the first week! By the end of the 2nd week at this other swim school, I felt she had made zero progress. My daughter is visiting So Cal for a week later this month. I have enrolled her with Teddi Bear Swim School again, because I saw the tremendous progress EACH DAY when she was there last year. If I can give 10 stars I would! My boys loved it. My youngest Daniel was always reluctant to go and cried a few times, but once there was fine. Later he would ask me to take him to swimming class. I signed up for 2 weeks. It was enough for my 7 year old Brandon. I could have used another week for my 4 year old, but our summer schedule didn't allow for that extra week. I was really impressed that my children were swimming across the pool with eyes open and without help IN 3 DAYS. This was after a traumatic incident for my daughter 2 years ago and 2 attempts to make progress at a local community center (3@ 2 week m-f sessions over 2 years). If you are looking for somewhere that will get your children water safe quickly, this is the place. The price is comparable to the other swim school, however the ratio is slightly lower. Teddi herself is willing to get into the pool if the need arises so that each child is allowed to progress at a pace that is comfortable. One thing that I think adds to the rate of success is the size of the pool; a normal backyard sized pool. The teachers are gentle yet firm and very experienced. The focus is safety and confidence in the water. We chose to enroll for 4 weeks but only completed 3 because I felt my children were confident and safe enough for me to handle on my own. Ms Teddi's swim lessons have been such a blessing for our kids. We started with my older one 4 years ago and before she came here she took lessons at a traditional swim classes for at least one year. No exaggeration but what she learned on day one at this class was way more than what she learned at traditional classes for one year. For my second child we didn't even bother starting traditional lessons. We waited for summer and started her and guess what she was swimming on day one!! Teddi Christina and crew are great swim instructors both of my daughters are back for their second year and are so excited to be back. Teddi is great coordinating what classes the kids should be in and it is partially one on one instruction where they teach them all the various styles of swimming. We really enjoy bringing our daughters here and they enjoy coming everyday. It has been a tradition to bring them back yearly because they learn so much and they are proud of what they learned and eager to show off when spending a day at grandma's pool. I highly recommend Teddi's Swim School to all kids learning to swim at all levels. The nice thing is that it's in a private setting in the backyard pool. They have a bathroom in the garage that they require the kids to use before swimming. This is our second year coming to Teddi Bear Swim class and my daughter's love it! They have them diving for rings/coins at the bottom of the pool and diving off the diving board on the very first day! The class are not too full so everyone has a turn with each instructor. There is a nice waiting area for the parents in full view of the pool so you don't miss anything. I'm really glad I chose Teddi Bear Swim class for my girls. Two of my kids have been through Teddi Bear Swim School after starting (slowly) somewhere else. The everyday schedule really helps them improve rapidly. The kids also spend very little time on the wall waiting their turn, unlike other places where it is about half the time. My 5 year old was pool safe and swimming after two weeks in Teddi's pool. They are very positive and encouraging! They really teach the kids everything about swimming and make it fun. They dive for stuff on the bottom of the pool and jump/dive off the board. It is a lot of fun! Highly recommended. We will be back for at least one more summer to keep fine tuning my youngest. read more

Omg Teddi is heaven sent! She taught my 9 yr old son how to swim in 2 weeks! I wasn't sure how much he could learn in 30 mins but rest assure Teddi hit the job done. On the 3rd day he was jumping off the diving board and swimming half way across the pool. By the end of the 2nd week he was able to swim on his back half way across the pool, flip over and freestyle the rest of the way . The only tools she uses are pennies and diving rings, no kick boards or noodles. She also doesn't allow goggles; she said because if a kid falls in a pool, they wouldn't have goggles on so they need to learn without them! She's definitely the swim teacher to go to. We have had such a great experience with Teddi Bear Swim School! My 4 yr old just finished 2.5 weeks of lessons and he went from not being very confident in the water to being able to dive off the diving board and swim the length of the pool all by himself! The consistency of having him swim every day for 1/2 an hour really helped and Teddi and her team were incredible in teaching him basic skills, and then fine tuning and pushing him forward as he was ready. Even when he hit a wall where he became scared of going head first from the diving board, Teddi and Christina were able to encourage him and talk him through his fears so that he could push ahead and do it all by himself today! All five of my kids have learned to swim through Teddi Bear Swim School. I am constantly amazed at how quickly Teddi and her daughters can get my kids to do amazing things like swim across the pool by the end of their 2nd day of lessons! All of my kids have struggled with fear issues and Teddi has always led them to confront their fears head on with firmness, but compassion and lots and lots of encouragement. As a former elementary school teacher, I was impressed with the structure and logical/natural sequence of tasks during each 30 minute lesson - there was hardly any wasted time and so much was accomplished each day . The kids just progressed so quickly because of it. My kids have always left their lesson with a sense of accomplishment and an excitement to come back the next day. The classes are small and each child gets one-on-one instruction during some part of the lesson, which makes it feel like a "private lesson" almost. BEST class I ever had my son take. I could not be any happier with all that she did for my son (then 8). He was terribly afraid of swimming. He would NOT put his face in water, not even in shower, due to a traumatic event with water when he was 2. Teddi worked with him until he was swimming on his own. Wow! My daughter (4) and son (8) took lessons here this summer and I wish I had started them both here instead of anywhere else. Don't let the backyard location fool you, this is the best program around. These 3 ladies are the right mix of patient and demanding. By the end of the second week they had my kids both diving, swimming freestyle with side breathing, and able to enjoy the water safely. My son developed good stroke technique, and my little girl can enjoy the pool safely. My son is now able to join a swim team thanks to their work with him. Also, he has food allergies and they were so willing to keep the pool area safe for him this summer. He didn't have a single allergic reaction here, though we have had trouble at a few other pools because the water can get so dirty. Called today to sign my 2.5 year old up for classes and the owner answered. She was incredibly friendly, and very informative. She explained that she doesn't do swim lessons with children her age and why. She gave me some really great tips on working with my daughter myself and explained the difference between swim lessons and the mommy and me classes. Although my daughter isn't old enough for her program yet I can honestly say I will definitely be giving her a call when she is. This place is awesome!! My son was scared to even get in the pool or get his eyes wet, and he actually cried the first day as he walked in the gates. Within a minute he was in the pool laughing and a few minutes later he was jumping off the edge of the pool. By day 3 he was diving off the diving board and swimming underwater to the edge. Thank you Teddi Bear Swim School! My 5 year old had the best experience learning from Alicia, Donald and Teddi. He learned the basics of swimming by the end of the first week (in just 2.5 hours!). Their method of teaching is very effective because there is continuity in learning everyday. My two children over the last 4 years have taken classes and now they are both wonderful and confident swimmers. I highly recommend this swim school. Even if you have a child who is afraid of the water or has some resistance being apart from mom or dad. The teachers here have a way with the kids. They may cry on day one, but by the end of the week you will see such improvement. For group lessons they really focus on the individual strengths and weakness so you really feel like you are getting a professional one-on-one lesson. Week 1, my daughter (who at the outset could do little more than dunk her head) was kicking across the width of the pool by the end. Now finishing up week 3 (and our last week) she can tread water and swim the length of the pool, taking 4-5 breaths. Very happy with their program because you can tell it is tested and precise with their progression of techniques to instill confidence and develop the young one's skill in swimming. They also have a good manner with the children. My daughter cried at times, a little afraid, but they were gentle but deaf to her cries of "I can't do it", and "I want to see my daddy". They always push the kids a little out of their comfort zone but never beyond their measure. The parents can see everything that is going on anyway, but the trust is there so I can relax for the 30 min she is in the water. No complaints, only high recommendations. read more
