called stark (mike) about an ice maker on my fridge that was not working. i mentioned that there was ice in the tray but it didnt flip. Mike felt with confidence that the ice maker was broken and needed to be replaced. he quoted me $375.00 for the part and labor to swap. i agreed. this was all over the phone. a survey/diagnostic test was not performed. roughly a week later he swapped the ice maker and told my wife to give it about an hour or so and to update him whether its working or not. (my wife made the mistake of paying him the balance of the money owed before confirming the ice maker worked. shame on her). the ice maker was still not working. he decided to order another ice maker which he did and swapped it out a few days later. He left and said to let him know if it works after an hour or 2. the ice maker still did not work. this was on a saturday. he said he would try to swing by on monday to see whats going on. he didnt come by monday. i sent a follow up text on wednesday. no response. i followed up again on friday and without ever coming back to perform any sort of diagnostic tests, he says i need a water inlet valve and that was going to cost me $250.00. I pushed back on the extra charges and questioned why he didnt tell me from the beginning that i might need other parts to fix it and that i would be charged for it. He ignored that question. He kept insisting that the valve was the next step and if that didnt work a control board was next. I said i needed to have a convo with him before moving forward with anything. That was on a friday roughly 3 weeks later after our initial convo. Never heard from him after that. That weekend i spent a couple hours on youtube and learned that one common reason for icemakers to fail was due to cut wires at the bottom of the fridge where the door hinge meets the fridge (shout out to bearded appliance repair). Bought $30 worth of materials from home depot and i was able to repair the wires myself and the ice maker was fixed. Mike took $375.00 of my $$$ for an icemaker i didnt need (he swears mine was cracked but his credibility is shot at this point) and was ready willing and able to take another $250.00 for a water valve i didnt need. (Those valves are available on amazon for anywhere bw $25-$90 and some of them get great reviews) If i had said yes, the ice maker still would not have worked and god only knows how much more money he wouldve tried to take from me after that until finally realizing wires were cut. Based on other reviews ive read this seems to be a pattern with him and probably done by design to make more $$$ STAY AWAY!!! read more

had issue with my theramdor fridge , contacted stark they came within hour . assessed the issue and said he needs to look into the issue and what the repair would entail . after some back and forth he was honest and upfront that the fix for this high end fridge was a little more then he wanted to take on bc of the locatiion of problem and what would be needed to secure fridge while being repaired! refunded my service call and suggested to contact manufacturer and let them advise! that's what i did and could not be impressed with honesty , transparency they exhibited snd still will be my first call for any appliance issue . since i have to believe if they can fix they will ! read more

Lets start with the non professional attitude. I had service done and still had a problem with my refrigerator. By the way his diagnosis was wrong the first and second time. Called stark to let them know and was hung up on after him yelling at me to send him my info when he had it and was reading to me what service he did. Unprofessional, waste of money, not helpful. Michael arrived, made a diagnosis, and replaced a fuse. He told us the dryer vent might be clogged, which caused the fuse to pop. He asked to check the vent to see if there was proper airflow, which he did and said it was fine so it was likely another cause (ex. drying heavier items like a comforter). I made a point to ask him before he left if we could use the machine since he'd thought the vent was no longer the cause- he said YES, we could use the dryer. He left, I ran a cycle and soon after the dryer stopped working again. He refuses to come back to fix it, blaming us for running the machine after he said it was fine to. He also refuses to clean the vent for us, saying his machine would rip the small portion of extender duct we have in place at the bottom. Wish I could understand why this portion of the vent could be excluded and just the hard, metal duct cleaned but he decided to be extremely rude to us when we called him to ask why he hadn't put us on his schedule for the last 2 weeks after he said he would. Unprofessional, waste of money, not helpful. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I may or may not have broken my microwave by slamming the door shut rather hard, when then led the entire machine to break. In a panic, I googled for appliance repair companies, and I stumbled upon Michael. I called at 7pm, he answered and was able to come by the next day! I was immediately shocked and grateful that he even answered after work hours and was able to squeeze in a visit. His recommendation, based on the appliance brand we have, was to replace the micro with a new one and a better brand. We waited a few days to follow through due to Thanksgiving, but once we were able to get the new micro, Michael came the NEXT DAY to install it. He arrived promptly and was in and out within an hour - the microwave is absolutely perfect and we could not be happier with Michael and his expertise. A bit pricey, but they got the job done in a timely matter. Showed up on time (on short notice), to repair a broken Maytag dishwasher. Turns out the food chopper was broken, which prevented the pump from operating, and while they couldn't replace the part, they removed the entire assembly to get it running again. And advised to continue to use it until it dies, because the cost to replace the pump (and attached food chopper) is not much less than to buy a new unit. After diagnostic fee snd repair fee, paid almost $300...expensive but it's working again. read more

I called Michael to fix my dishwasher and left a message. A few days went by with no response. I called back and he came later that day. He was there for about 45 mins but said he needed to come back to finish the job and I paid him the service fee he requested. He told me to run the dishwasher in the morning and call/text him back if it didn't work. I texted the next morning with no response. I texted him again the next day and he told me he would come back that day or the next day. I called/texted him back about another 5 times over the course of the next week with absolutely no response at all. read more

My oven wouldn't turn on (on Christmas Eve). When we called, Mike had us check a couple things to diagnose the issue, nd he figured out what was wrong. He came in less than an hour, with the part needed, and was able to promptly repair our oven. He was very professional and polite, and was able to finish the job in under half an hour. Great customer service is not always easy to find. I was extremely impressed and happy with Michael's (Stark Appliance) expertise and service. He is knowledgeable, prompt, courteous and cleanly. My Samsung ice maker stopped working. I called at least 7 or 8 appliance repair companies who all said they would not work on Samsung ice makers, until I called Stark. Michael came over within 2 days (I wasn't in a big rush). He diagnosed the problem, order the parts and returned to install them and ensure the issue was resolved. I paid the full price to have my dishwasher repaired through venmo (never again). He came to fix the machine and the part was delayed...first he said it was an issue with his credit card, then he said it was a different issue and he had to deal with that too. After he said he "repaired" our dishwasher, the next day the problem was not fixed and the issue was still happening. When I called, he said "well, that's a much bigger, more expensive fix". Mike then argued with me and my husband that it wasnt worth it to fix the machine and he didn't want to fix it because it wasnt worth his time. The whirlpool machine is only 3.5 years old and 6 months out of warranty, which is why I didnt want to spend $700+another warranty to buy a new one. He doesnt warranty his repairs. He continued to go on to say "he didnt want to flood our house, and risk his company, etc over this repair". Honestly, if you are going to flood a house over a dishwasher repair, then you shouldn't be doing repairs. If you dont stand behind your work, then you should not be in this business. I told him we were getting new appliances in another year, hence not buying new ones now, but that's not his business. I paid him fully to do a service and I would never recommend him again. He told me to go through another company because hes not fixing it. read more
