Ehhh...this is the standard diner experience. We were seated immediately, attentive server, and our food came out really quickly. The portion sizes were good, but there was nothing particularly special about the experience or the food. For the two of us, it was almost $50 (including the tip) for two basic breakfast orders, a skillet and a French toast combo. People of a certain age may remember the neighborhood restaurant on the corner. Take heart my faithful, there's one off the beaten path on the corner of 83rd & Damen on the South Side of Chicago. I had a wonderful meal, the restaurant is clean and food is delicious. They serve breakfast and an afternoon menu. The waitstaff are very pleasant and professional. I went for breakfast. The restaurant is a decent size, good for a group. As soon as I sat down someone brought me water and offered coffee. My waitress was friendly. I had the ribeye steak, eggs, hashbrowns, and pancakes. I truly appreciated them cooking my hashbrowns just the way I asked. I didn't realize they give you 4 eggs with the meal. Next time I'll just ask for 2. The ribeye was tender, seasoned, and cooked the eat I wanted. Their pancakes are nice and fluffy. read more

I am really picky when it comes to ordering liver and onions but I have to highly recommend Starlight Restaurant for their liver and onions with gravy !! It truly reminded me of when I was a child and my mom or aunt would cook liver, onions and gravy with rice !! That was one of the my favorite meals and Starlight does it right the liver is cooked to perfection fried to tender perfection and the gravy over the rice just sets it off right !! I highly recommend this meal so delicious you will agree once you try it !! read more

I've ALWAYS experienced a warm greeting and prompt and efficient service from this establishment. Its updated retro 1960's feel is genuine, as it's a longtime staple of the neighborhood. Saturday's buckwheat pancakes were not what I expected, with the artificial boxed mix taste ruining them for me, but the bacon was crispy delicious. Vintage to say the least but that is a compliment for sure. Wow, it takes me back to the 60's but not that I know yhat firsthand. Very neat and tidy for being a vintage restaurant. So I saw right away the shrimp and southern grits which is rare to see in any Chicago restaruant. I must say that I am really surprised at the taste. Although 1 suggestion, the eggs on top didn't do it for me. I wasn't able to taste the grits and shrimp on its own as the eggs just took away from the experience. The waitress asked me so I had to be honest. But the service here is ImpecImpeccable from the waitress tto the bus boys. They keep rounding aand asling about if we need coffee. Very nice to have a staff that is so attentive. That says a lot of a place, especially since it's vintage you never know. All in all in give them a 3 star, i would definitely return a second time. The food is always delicious because they have great cooks and they provide you with sizable portions that you will take some home with you every time. The service is excellent from the waitresses to the bus guys. The owners are very hands on and friendly. The restaurant itself is definitely very family oriented. The restaurant confirmed the order was out for delivery. The food never arrived. I can only presume the driver stole it...after all, it was paid for. If I could leave zero stars I would. My family and I have been coming to Starlight since I was a kid. The service during my visit today was horrible. The server was not attentive at all and entered my order incorrectly. After bringing this up to the Manager he was very dismissive and rude! I will never return to this restaurant or recommend it. I visit Starlight for my morning catfish and cheesy eggs. Sometimes I will get the catfish broil or fried. Either way the catfish tastes great. Order in September 15th breakfast totally $63.08 through Uber Eats. The order was wrong. Only one out of four was correct half the order was missing. I understand things happen so I called the store. The employee that answered the phone said bags were left. After being transferred to the manager he first said he would call Ubereats, but when I called back he said he did not have time to help me because he had other customers. He said no food was left, people are just "COVERING THEIR ASS" This comment and service is unacceptable. Still nothing was resolved. I paid $63.08 for a $12 meal. read more

My first experience was great. I ordered off grubhub, and the food was hot and fresh. The second experience was horrible. I decided to dine in at the restaurant. Neighborhood restaurant- I try to patronize stores in my neighborhood, but lately the quality as diminished tremendously. I realize things have changed drastically since and due to Covid, but this the last straw. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich, but what I received was a mayonnaise sandwich with celery and tiny flakes of chicken. Also, there is absolutely no flavor ---all I tasted was bland, no name mayonnaise. I'm not even sure if the chicken was real - probably processed meat. I had Starlight's chicken salad before, but unfortunately what I got today was horrible - not the same. The fries were also different---a lesser quality potato with a coating. The best part of this order was the side salad- even though it is iceberg lettuce. Again, I realize times have changed, prices have increased- for everyone- but this was not good. If the food is good, I don't mind paying- but not this cheaply made sandwich. Starlight, you are not fooling anyone.... maybe you are. Today will be the last day I order/purchase anything from your restaurant. As for others who choose to still to partake, I hope Starlight does better. while I enjoy eating at starlight I'm not too happy with the manager Steve. The order I placed on ubereats was wrong and items were missing resulting in me having to drive up there. Ubereats prices and gas are outrageous. I requested that a quarter of my meal should be remade since I had to drive up there and the manager refused to do that. So I requested a refund. PHENOMENAL customer service, when a food delivery service brought me the wrong order, the owner took time out, drove to my home and brought me my food and I know for a fact that is unheard of! I was very disappointed in this place. First issue Starlight Restaurant doesn't offer military discounts, the owner said that they only offer police discounts. He said no military or first responder discounts only police. I would visit Starlight Restaurant whenever I visited Chicago and have noticed the quality of food has seriously declined over the years. The coffee taste like brown water, not coffee. The eggs I ordered were not correct, had to send them back twice. I asked for Greek toast but they brought me regular toast, had to send it back. Basically, this was the third time my order was messed. I did not argue with the staff, I have decided that this is the last time I would patronage this dinning establishment.
