This diner has been around for forever and I would drive by all the time but finally decided to stop in. It wasn't busy at all and at first I was wondering if they were open. It was 9am on a Monday so that's probably to be expected. I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs and hash browns. Those were some of the best hash browns I've had in a long time. The restaurant still feels like it's in the 90s but brings with it a sense of nostalgia. I'd definitely recommend going if you want a no frills, basic breakfast. Good location on 95th street, close to grocery stores, department stores, etc. Went on a Sunday morning and were seated immediately. The restaurant looks like an outdated diner, but clean and cozy. The prices were reasonable. We both ordered the special that included juice, two pieces of bacon, two sausage links, two pancakes and two eggs. It took about 35 minutes for our food to arrive, which was way too long for what we ordered. We liked the food, but realistically, it's like a slightly upgraded I-Hop - so if you don't like I-Hop, you might choose another spot. Went into the empty restaurant for breakfast. I ordered braeakfast and another came im to sit with me cause I was weak and needed food. Ate and went to pay for breakfast only to be yelled at by the owner. Talking about my tip should be for four people when I was the only one eating though my tip was over $10 for a $26 bill because I liked the waitresses. He simply saw the weight of the bill was light and assumed a $1. Truly indignant for absolutely no reason. I just walked out stating I am not in the mood to argue about anything and left taking my $11 with me. Now I know why the place was empty....rude owner! My husband and I have been going to Golden Griddle for over 15 years. It's a nice place to go for brunch before running weekend errands, which is generally when we go; right before shopping at the nearby Target or Sam's Club. As soon as you arrive, the waitresses offer coffee, water, or juice. It's a pretty big menu, but generally I get the omelette or skillet with a side of pancakes or a Belgian waffle. I wish I could make my waffles at home as good as the restaurants. :-) The ambiance is a mix crowd of locals, mostly from Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, or Chicago. The owner is usually on site, and seems to generally watch over everything and says hello. The portion sizes are big, so be ready take some home and have a nice breakfast the next day! read more

Our Bill was almost $75.00 and we were leaving a tip but it wasn't the amount he wanted and loud talked us. We were feeding the homeless and helping him find Shelter. Extremely embarrassing how we were treated. Mgr didn't know what we had spent already and still spent nearly $75 in his restaurant but tip was less than what he wanted. 9 Black Ladies decided on Golden Griddle for our first outing as a Seniors Club. We heard the food there was good. However, the customer service was poor. The owner/operator greeted us at the door. He was very rude told me I was asking too may questions re separate checks. Wouldn't accommodate us for seating arrangements together. Yelling saying he was 70 years old and seniors shouldn't get any special treatment. He pays $20,000/mo for rent. He mentioned 2 times that if we didn't like it we could leave. Even if he didn't want to allow seating and separate checks, the screaming and yelling and insults to go somewhere else was humiliating. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and of course I'll never go there again. I never do bad reviews, but he needs to be removed from the greeters position. read more

I have never been to this restaurant and was in the city visiting and found this hidden but right out front gem.. I actually know one the owners and was so super happy to see her after over at least 10 years. It's on 95th street east of Kedzie in Evergreen Park. There is free parking in the lot and in front. The food was good.. I didn't really care for the taste of the syrup but my date said it was good to him. I had pancakes, eggs over medium and grits. He had a strawberry waffle which was really good, grits and eggs fried hard. He said that coffee was really good and fresh, didn't have the burnt taste. He had about 6 small cups with Irish Crème Creamer. I did taste it and it was actually good.. The Irish Crème creamer was like toffee to me. Our waitress was funny and very hospitable. They had a lot of customers sitting in and taking out. Also I could tell they have regulars. They had a group in the back celebrating a birthday. Golden Griddle is one of those restaurants that you go to if you live within walking distance of it and you want a quick breakfast or lunch. Service is decent, but it is just your standard breakfast house. The food is okay. For the prices, I would say you can do much better by driving to other breakfast houses. On our most recent visit, my kids split the chocolate chip pancake breakfast and I split the 2-egg breakfast with my husband. Our service was quick and pleasant. There was no problem in splitting up the kid's breakfast, which I appreciated very much. Even the cup of milk was split into two cups for them. As a parent, I appreciate it because it avoids any sibling bickering. The meal I shared was decent. Eggs were cooked to order. The pancakes are quite tasty as well. He bacon is not thick cut, and is just your standard bacon. As I said, for the price, there are other breakfast houses you can drive to that have better portions and more than your standard fare. My husband and I have been to Golden Griddle several times. Today we stopped in because I wanted a hamburger with grilled onions and mushrooms falling off the burger, w/ lettuce and tomato. Well everything was fine except the hamburger. It was a pre-made hamburger and other no seasoning at all and I asked for med-well and it didn't matter. The hamburger tasted old and dry. This place has THE best Waffles I've ever eaten. Especially the Pecan one. You will notice on the menu they use a lot of high quality ingredients. Because of that the prices are a bit higher than the average diner, but you get what you pay for. It is worth it. Everything we tried was delicious. The coffee was also good and waitress was fast and efficient. As for the reviews accusing the old greek owner of racism; we did not see that at all. We are an interracial couple and used to getting stared at depending on the venue, but the owner was sincerely friendly and nice to us. So after my sister and I looked around he then says "The white side is over there". My sister and I both looked at him and said what did you say due to his thick accent. He then says the wider booths are on this side and then said this is my biggest booth. I am a plus size woman, have been all my life and have been all around both USA and abroad and wad never approached in this manner. I then thanked him. The waitress came over with menu's and the look on her face said enough. She apologized for his actions. So after leas than 5 minutes wr are looking over the menu he stands 3 feet away from our table and stare at us. This was the last straw. My sister and I politely stood up and informed the waitress we would be leaving. She stated she understood. When we left he smirked at us and did not even ask why we were leaving. I wanted to scream and holler and cause a scene however what good would that have done? Another angry black woman. I would not give him the satisfaction. It's not a black or white thing it's something called respect. I would share my story with every social media platform I can find.
