My husband and I have been going to Golden Griddle for over 15 years. It's a nice place to go for brunch before running weekend errands, which is generally when we go; right before shopping at the nearby Target or Sam's Club. As soon as you arrive, the waitresses offer coffee, water, or juice. It's a pretty big menu, but generally I get the omelette or skillet with a side of pancakes or a Belgian waffle. I wish I could make my waffles at home as good as the restaurants. :-) The ambiance is a mix crowd of locals, mostly from Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, or Chicago. Our Bill was almost $75.00 and we were leaving a tip but it wasn't the amount he wanted and loud talked us. We were feeding the homeless and helping him find Shelter. 9 Black Ladies decided on Golden Griddle for our first outing as a Seniors Club. We heard the food there was good. However, the customer service was poor. The owner/operator greeted us at the door. He was very rude told me I was asking too may questions re separate checks. Wouldn't accommodate us for seating arrangements together. Yelling saying he was 70 years old and seniors shouldn't get any special treatment. He pays $20,000/mo for rent. He mentioned 2 times that if we didn't like it we could leave. Even if he didn't want to allow seating and separate checks, the screaming and yelling and insults to go somewhere else was humiliating. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and of course I'll never go there again. I never do bad reviews, but he needs to be removed from the greeters position. read more

I have never been to this restaurant and was in the city visiting and found this hidden but right out front gem.. I actually know one the owners and was so super happy to see her after over at least 10 years. It's on 95th street east of Kedzie in Evergreen Park. There is free parking in the lot and in front. The food was good.. I didn't really care for the taste of the syrup but my date said it was good to him. I had pancakes, eggs over medium and grits. He had a strawberry waffle which was really good, grits and eggs fried hard. He said that coffee was really good and fresh, didn't have the burnt taste. He had about 6 small cups with Irish Crème Creamer. I did taste it and it was actually good.. The Irish Crème creamer was like toffee to me. Our waitress was funny and very hospitable. They had a lot of customers sitting in and taking out. Also I could tell they have regulars. They had a group in the back celebrating a birthday. Service is decent, but it is just your standard breakfast house. The food is okay. For the prices, I would say you can do much better by driving to other breakfast houses. On our most recent visit, my kids split the chocolate chip pancake breakfast and I split the 2-egg breakfast with my husband. Our service was quick and pleasant. There was no problem in splitting up the kid's breakfast, which I appreciated very much. Even the cup of milk was split into two cups for them. As a parent, I appreciate it because it avoids any sibling bickering. The meal I shared was decent. Eggs were cooked to order. The pancakes are quite tasty as well. He bacon is not thick cut, and is just your standard bacon. As I said, for the price, there are other breakfast houses you can drive to that have better portions and more than your standard fare. My husband and I have been to Golden Griddle several times. Today we stopped in because I wanted a hamburger with grilled onions and mushrooms falling off the burger, w/ lettuce and tomato. Well everything was fine except the hamburger. It was a pre-made hamburger and other no seasoning at all and I asked for med-well and it didn't matter. The hamburger tasted old and dry. This place has THE best Waffles I've ever eaten. Especially the Pecan one. You will notice on the menu they use a lot of high quality ingredients. Because of that the prices are a bit higher than the average diner, but you get what you pay for. It is worth it. Everything we tried was delicious. So after my sister and I looked around he then says "The white side is over there". My sister and I both looked at him and said what did you say due to his thick accent. I wanted to scream and holler and cause a scene however what good would that have done? Another angry black woman. I would not give him the satisfaction. It's not a black or white thing it's something called respect. I would share my story with every social media platform I can find. Once she took our order, she was prompt in coming back with our coffees and shortly after that our breakfast arrived!
