I can see why this place has such good reviews! Great sushi spot in the valley but what leaves you wanting to come back is the excellent customer service. Brian is so warm and friendly and will really make you feel welcome here. Everything we ordered was delicious. Beautiful presentation and good quality fish. Reasonable prices too. Can't wait to return!

Cannot remember the name of this dish, but not one bite touched a drop of soy sauce with wasabi

This is a serious "sincere" review. Not that it's important, but Ill start this way. Ive been to hundreds of sushi restaurants since my first experience in 1988. Nearly 40 years ago. I worked for a Japanese company. Sharp Electronics. Never knew how wonderful "raw fish" can be. From my first time, Ive ALWAYS mixed my little bowl of green wasabi and soy sauce. IveI got it down good. No clumps. Just the right amount. Ive had rolls, eel, octopus, everything. Tried it all. I love sushi. Some places better than others, but pretty much liked it all. I think I needed to explain that to be a credible source for this review. Lets start Angie, our waitress asked if there was any special occasion. Turns out there was an anniversary celebration of our group of 3. She patiently and politely went through their menu. Wasn't typical. There were items that ive never heard of in the last 38 years. So, since I have become a lover of sashimi, she explained some options. I picked one. My other friends ordered theirs, and off she went. Came back shortly with the fresh ginger and wasabi to prepare. And, as usual, I prepared mine. Perfect color. Ready for dipping. After a modest wait, she brought my dish. Probably the most beautiful presentation ive ever witnessed. So detailed. Art. Well, this truly was the first time IN MY LIFE that I ate it without dipping in my little soy sauce mixture. The different components and flavors of EVERYTHING on that dish was by far, and I mean LIGHTYEARS better than ANY sushi Ive had in my life. I had to savor every single bite. The piece of art disappeared as I slowly consumed the best meal I can remember. But wait. Thats not the end. Angie, this amazing waitress brings out this beautiful fried ice cream dessert as she remembered we were there for an anniversary. She just did it. And, (you probably think I'm crazy by now) but the desert was commensurate with the look and taste of the meal. A 5 star review does not remotely call out how great this place is. Thank you Angie. Thank you Starlight Sushi. I'll NEVER forget our experience

Definitely 5 stars for service. Brian was our server and was just a delight. He was friendly, gave some great recommendations and was constantly checking in without being intrusive. Sushi was fresh and tasty and not too pricey. Honesty none of the sushi stood out as to die for but the service definitely made the dinner a blast. They do not serve alcohol but they still have a fun cozy atmosphere. Downside is parking. They have a parking garage below the restaurant but you do have to pay $6 for parking.

Excellent service. Cute restaurant and delicious sushi. The rolls are big! I was full after an appetizer and one roll lol.

The eel roll that we ordered.

It is not very often that I will write a review of a restaurant unless it's really good, and Starlight Sushi is that. I had heard from several people and read very good reviews of this restaurant. My husband and I decided to try it, and it did not disappoint!! This is now my go to sushi restaurant. The sushi was excellent quality, fresh, beautifully prepared and large portions. We ordered the eel roll, which was delicious, and it came with nine pieces instead of the usual eight. (see photo) The service was excellent. Our server Johana, was the nicest person, which made our dining experience all the more pleasant. The restaurant is located in Encino on Ventura Blvd between Gloria and Gaviota. The complex charges for underground parking, except on Sunday, however, you can find street parking.

Baked salmon was amazing and I don't like baked sushi.

Omg this place was so cute. It's not a fancy place but once you're in and you taste the food and the way the people treat you, you feel like a star. Brian is a different story is he a comedian and an amazing human being and Chef George thank you so much for the amazing sushi's you made. I took my parent there for their anniversary and it was our first time, let's just say it won't be our last time that's for sure.

Cozy place with great food! I'm new to sushi and I loved everything I had here. Our server was also attentive and super helpful. Parking was also easy, there is a lot directly underneath the restaurant. We'll be back

This is my second visit to Starlight Sushi! I remember the first time I came here I was completely blown away so I wanted to come back and bring my mom. We were seated right away and the waiter here is SO friendly and kind. We had a couple of dishes that knocked it out of the park and a couple that weren't really as outstanding. Loved the spicy albacore sashimi as well as the shishito peppers! I also enjoyed the spicy scallop hand roll. It had some heat! The spicy yellowtail cut roll was a little bland and the spider roll didn't taste as fresh and crunchy as I would have liked. Overall, I would come back and maybe try some more of their specialty rolls to see what they are all about. I wish they had their liquor license because it would be amazing to have an ice cold asahi to accompany my meal!

I booked a table at Starlight Sushi on Ventura Boulevard for a Friday night because it was one of the few sushi spots with a 7 p.m. reservation still open. I went in with zero expectations. I have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants and many feel pretty interchangeable with the same rolls, same cups and plates, and the same general vibe. That is not what happened here. Parking is in a paid underground lot that was six dollars when I went. I did not see much in the way of free street parking nearby and there was no validation, so plan for that. The restaurant itself is small and cozy and has been open for about a year. They do not have a liquor license yet but they mentioned it is in the works. You can bring your own with a corkage fee, although it is worth confirming before you go. It is clearly a neighborhood favorite because we saw several people greet the staff like old friends. The team was warm and welcoming. Inside, the lighting struck a nice balance, not harsh and not dim, and the noise level made for easy conversation. Seating is close but still comfortable. When music came on, it was kept low. It felt like the kind of place you could bring a date or meet a friend without having to shout over your food. The sushi was fantastic. The plating was stunning and every dish that came out looked like something you would want to photograph before eating. The flavors matched the presentation. The yellowtail sashimi, with a perfect slice of chili and just the right amount of sauce, was beautifully balanced. The fish was fresh, the temperature was perfect, and the sushi rice was excellent. I always order crispy rice the first time I visit a sushi restaurant if it is on the menu, just to see how they do it. Here it was outstanding. The rice was the perfect size, crisped evenly, and warm without being oily, with just the right crunch. The fish on top was well balanced with the base, making every bite feel intentional and carefully crafted. The rolls were also generously sized, even the simpler ones like the salmon avocado, which came out much larger than expected. We also tried the Magic Mike roll with rock shrimp on top. You do not see that roll too often and the presentation, right down to the plate itself, showed a lot of care. This is a place where you can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve. If you like sushi, I recommend giving it a try. There are a lot of sushi restaurants in the Valley, but this one stands out and I think as more people discover it, it will become a local favorite.

BRIAN THE SERVER WAS FANTASTIC!!!! HE gets five stars!!! Cozy, dark sushi bar without a bar - - the food was OK. The albacore sashimi was fantastic and the shishito peppers were very tasty - - the rolls were nothing special. The scallops in the hand roll were not as soft and fresh as I expected and the yellowtail in the roll did not go through every cut piece. Just a heads up, they use a lot of imitation crab in their rolls. Parking is i$6 n a garage under the building.

I'm a big sushi connoisseur and I couldn't be happier that I found this place. Nice and updated decor, superb customer service throughout the whole night and the fish so fresh that the ocean called and was asking for it back. I absolutely loved the flavors of the albacore and tuna specialty rolls and their sushi just melted in my mouth. Special mention for their Japanese uni and toro with ikura and golden flakes. Just wow. My friends and I will definitely come back to experience this happiness again! P.S. The staff really try to connect with you, feel out your every seafood craving and make you feel like you're a part of their family.

Sushi, Bentos, appetizers, etc. The place is not large inside, but you can sit at one of their tables or at the sushi bar as well. They are open from 12-2:30 for the lunch crowd and then again later for dinner. We got a ton of things, my receipt was too long, had to fold it over for the picture. Started with some spicy edamame's and shishito peppers, cooked perfectly. Miso soup, salmon, spicy tuna, spicy scallop, white fish, veggie tempura, a BSC roll, unagi, baked crab and California rolls. Enjoyed everything very much except for the baked crab roll, it was ok, but not my favorite and I would not order again. Everything else I would get again. There are a few spaces in front on Sepulveda, but you should park in the back in the large parking lot that they have. The lot is not free, just an FYI. Staff was really nice and took care of us well. Their prices are not bad for sushi, more reasonable than others, but the sushi is still high grade and very good. But for some reason, it took almost 5 minutes of waiting by the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign for someone to actually come and seat us. When we were finally sat, the hostess stuck us in 2 seats against the wall at a completely empty grill table. When we asked if we could move around to 2 seats along the side of the grill so that we wouldn't be squished against the wall, she told us "no... these are the seats for a party of 2." Yet we were the only 2 people at the entire grill at 8:30pm at night.... Anyway, we sat for another 5-10 minutes before they sat 2 other people at our grill and then the server finally asked all 4 of us (mind you, we had been waiting 5-10 min at the table already) for our drink and food orders. The chef who cooked for us was really great, and the food was delicious - shrimp and filet for my wife, and shrimp and Korean BBQ for me. So no complaints on the food... overall I would say that it was above average for a teppanyaki grill, and the chef was really great... But after our food was done, the staff immediately started rushing us to finish up quickly and kept asking if we were ready for the check. We hadn't even finished our food, it was only 9:15, and the restaurant didn't close until 10... When I asked for some saki, the waitress made a mistake and brought me a glass of wine... when I pointed out that I didn't order a glass of wine, but rather some saki, she was clearly annoyed but eventually brought me the saki that had ordered. Well at 9:30, they started closing the restaurant down around us - shutting off lights, and at 9:45, while we still had food in front of us and full drinks, they shut off the music and turned off pretty much all the lights, aside from the lights around our table. It was very clear that they were closing down, whether we finished or not, and well before the 10pm posted closing time. Since we felt so awkward, we quickly finished our food, and asked for the check. When the waitress brought the check, she pointed out that the saki was more expensive than what was advertised on the menu, and guess what? That extra cost of the saki just happened to be the same price as the mistaken glass of wine that they brought over... Coincidence? Anyway, we paid the check, and left our drinks unfinished. When I tried to explain our frustration with the host at being rushed out before we finished our food or drinks, she really didn't seem to care and simply said, "thanks for your feedback." Huh. So after spending almost $200 between 2 people, we had to rush through our dinner, as they started closing down around us as soon as the chef finished cooking. Unfortunately even though the food was good, the service was so bad that we won't be going back.

Every aspect from the dark walls and wooden bar, down to the music and bathroom is well thought out. You can tell they truly value their space and the customers that support the restaurant. Don't get me started on the food ~ We tried the Bincho Egg Black Tonkatsu Ramen. The broth was silky and creamy, not oily or heavy at all. The black garlic added a very interesting earthy and almost scorched taste to it. The egg was sweet, and I've never had a sweet ramen egg before but it went well with the rest of the umami flavors in the dish. The green onions and wood ear mushrooms had a fresh crunch to them and there was enough to get a good amount in every bite. The charsiu was tender + savory sweet, kinda tasted like cheese to me but that's also a positive lol! The noodles were slightly chewy and the portion was just right for the amount of broth you get. I have nothing bad to say about this ramen, it's truly one of those spots where your heart desires seconds or even thirds lowkey. I'll be back again to try a different option on the menu. That spicy karaage looked pretty fire so I may need to come back to try that too... Thank you Bincho! Y'all killed the ramen game.
