    Creamy Salmon Cut Roll
    Caro F.

15 years that I come to this location regularly! My favorites are the creamy salmon cut roll and the baked crab cut roll with excellent value for price (around $8). Also love the crispy rice and albacore with crispy onions but it's more pricey at about $15. Tried the teppan roll but didn't love it. Desserts i love are the green tea tempura ice cream and the chocolate cake. Service is always good and fast. Only thing is it gets very loud inside if the place is full so it gets hard to have a conversation sometimes. Parking at the back or metered.

My husband and I finally tried this place in person after many takeout dinners and what can I say - I'm glad we did! The experience sitting at the sushi bar and ordering what you want, getting it fresh, and seeing other orders is unmatched. Their sushi special menu was good and had some interesting taste plates with 4 different sushi pieces using one fish. I got the albacore and my husband got the tuna. Soo good!! Loved trying all the different types. You can't forget the spicy tuna crispy rice! A staple. While we'll probably order in more often because of time constraints, we will definitely be back

The katsu-ya box is my current go to. With an array of sashimi's, spicy tuna crispy rice, and crab cut roll. A bunch of katsu-ya favorites in one box. Service remains consistent and ambiance busy, but not too loud.

    Salmon Teriyaki Entree

TL/DR: Good service, noisy inside, teriyaki chicken was disappointing. Atmosphere is friendly and noisy inside. Service was excellent -hand towels were provided immediately I'll seating. Tables were always cleared of any random paper trash or used plates/bowls. The Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was very good. Nice bite sized pieces, good taste. The salad was super cold and crispy, with a nice miso dressing. The miso soup was good. I tasted the salmon teriyaki. It was ok, but I thought the salmon was a little overdone. My chicken teriyaki was a disappointment. For me, teriyaki chicken has always been marinated and grilled, so you get some nice crispy areas or color, and then more sauce is put on top. Here, it was a sliced up, seemingly just-boiled or poached chicken breast that had sauce on top. So the sauce flavor didn't get into the chicken at all. It was weird. Sure was expecting a Japanese restaurant to get this dish right.

Katsu-Ya dies a great job. But this particular location on Ventura is something else. Everyone in this Katsu-Ya are so friendly, so polite (even non-Japanese) and so accommodating. When you go th st e it's like going to grandma's house with all the love and affection. Good job.

I ordered the bento box to go. I loved everything. They made it fast and I ate it faster. Very thankful to have katsuya near by because it's one of my go to sushi spots.

This is a staple for my company lunches as we are walking distance and the food always hits the spot. The great thing is that they take reservations which is needed for our big groups. I'm a fan of their white fish flight and chirashi bowls. My coworkers love the popcorn shrimp tuna roll because the shrimp is nicely fried and sweet and complements the tuna roll perfectly. You can't go wrong with anything here! Parking is located in the back so make sure you get it validated before you leave.

First time trying this Katsu-ya location and wasn't disappointed for sure, cozy little spot with great service for sure. Their food tasted as authentic as I've had at other sushi restaurants for sure, full of flavor and most important fresh. Plenty of parking in the back parking lot, just a fun place to visit enjoy some good sushi and saki.

Food was good but very limited menu and higher prices compared to other locations of the chain. Probably won't be back any time soon.

The server was nice and one of the sushi chefs was nice... and one of them kind of mid nice. Nice-ish. Nice lite. I'm not a fan of their sushi bar feng shui... Back door is probably where most people enter... not a welcoming entrance. The seats at the actual sushi bar feels like you are kind of pushed up against a wall and the working area behind the bar seems at an odd level for customer interaction. Minor stuff actually... but not like an embracing or cozy bar that is the center of the energy force. The food. It was all really meager portions and there was so much sauce on these small cuts that it was hard to discern that you were even eating raw fish on rice. The "belly sampler" had unimpressive cuts of toro and other things... and lot's of sauce. I get that some items come with sauce... just too much. And because everything was SO over-sauced, everything was super salty. Garlic Lemon Roll was a thing of beauty... except for the pools of sauce it was sitting in. It's a real head-scratcher why sites like TheInfatuation that list the best places on Ventura Blvd/Sushi Row have this place in the same class as Brothers and Asanebo.

Started with some spicy edamame's and shishito peppers, cooked perfectly. Miso soup, salmon, spicy tuna, spicy scallop, white fish, veggie tempura, a BSC roll, unagi, baked crab and California rolls. Enjoyed everything very much except for the baked crab roll, it was ok, but not my favorite and I would not order again. Everything else I would get again. There are a few spaces in front on Sepulveda, but you should park in the back in the large parking lot that they have. The lot is not free, just an FYI. They offer three versions of their tonkotsu ramen--Clear, Black, and Spicy. Of course, I ordered the Clear. Oh my goodness... this was exactly the ramen I'd been looking for. The broth was crystal clear yet incredibly rich and flavorful without being heavy. The chashu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly seasoned, and not greasy at all. The soft-boiled egg was cooked to perfection with a beautifully jammy yolk. The noodles reminded me of the ramen I had in Japan--simple, authentic, with the perfect texture and firmness. And the shredded green onions on top completely brought the whole bowl together. They added just the right amount of freshness and crunch. Game over. If you're looking for authentic Japanese ramen with a clean, flavorful broth, this place is a must-visit. I'll definitely be back.

They "close" at 10:30 (the place was still hopping at 10) and we arrived at a little past 9:00, figuring at that hour we wouldn't need a reservation. Think again, the place was just one click shy of a madhouse. The bar was lively and the tables were occupied mostly by 20-30 somethings in crocks and belly shirts, jabbing food in the mini fire pits and shoveling it in their mouths with the authority of hungry guard dogs. We had to wait 10 minutes or so, for a table and another 7 or so for our server to appear. It gave us a chance to peruse the menus. Yes, menus, plural. There are three laminated ones and a book with pages. Given how extensive the food menus are, the drink menu was a little unimpressive. The sake list had a few things listed, not including a Nigori. The white wine had two, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. We like Sauvignon Blancs but ordered the Pinot Grigio. Mezza Corona. That's what casinos comp pour at the slots in Vegas. It was fine, but not optimum. Overwhelmed by the menus and not particularly craving one thing, we decided to order the "Anniversary" dinner for two. It was a set combination of mostly proteins with the house salad and miso soup. The "poke" wasn't the usual gooey stuff seen in most raw places. It was perfect little cubes of ahi and marinated onions over a bed of pickled seaweed. The salad was large and simple, with a sesame dressing. Then... omg the proteins started to appear. Every single one was delicious. We found that putting the pork belly on the grill helped to keep the following proteins from sticking. The rice was beautifully steamed. The miso soup was even the best I've had in a long time, with lots of tofu and seaweed sinking to the bottom. I can see how this would be a great place for a group, and I can't wait to go with more friends; albeit my husband and I really enjoyed the respite. Our server, Cole, was cool and real. He didn't seem to need to pretend to be nice. He was just a sincere, caring young man. Their happy hour times are worth noting. They're happy throughout the day and night with the exception of 6:30 - 8:30 pm. There is a happy hour combination menu you might want to consider, especially if you've never been here and just want to see what's going on. There are AYCE choices which might come in handy if you're really into some favorites. There's also a big thing about Wagyu. Eh. Different strokes I guess. We'll definitely be back.
