    Creamy Salmon Cut Roll
    Caro F.

15 years that I come to this location regularly! My favorites are the creamy salmon cut roll and the baked crab cut roll with excellent value for price (around $8). Also love the crispy rice and albacore with crispy onions but it's more pricey at about $15. Tried the teppan roll but didn't love it. Desserts i love are the green tea tempura ice cream and the chocolate cake. Service is always good and fast. Only thing is it gets very loud inside if the place is full so it gets hard to have a conversation sometimes. Parking at the back or metered.

My husband and I finally tried this place in person after many takeout dinners and what can I say - I'm glad we did! The experience sitting at the sushi bar and ordering what you want, getting it fresh, and seeing other orders is unmatched. Their sushi special menu was good and had some interesting taste plates with 4 different sushi pieces using one fish. I got the albacore and my husband got the tuna. Soo good!! Loved trying all the different types. You can't forget the spicy tuna crispy rice! A staple. While we'll probably order in more often because of time constraints, we will definitely be back

The katsu-ya box is my current go to. With an array of sashimi's, spicy tuna crispy rice, and crab cut roll. A bunch of katsu-ya favorites in one box. Service remains consistent and ambiance busy, but not too loud.

    Salmon Teriyaki Entree

TL/DR: Good service, noisy inside, teriyaki chicken was disappointing. Atmosphere is friendly and noisy inside. Service was excellent -hand towels were provided immediately I'll seating. Tables were always cleared of any random paper trash or used plates/bowls. The Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna was very good. Nice bite sized pieces, good taste. The salad was super cold and crispy, with a nice miso dressing. The miso soup was good. I tasted the salmon teriyaki. It was ok, but I thought the salmon was a little overdone. My chicken teriyaki was a disappointment. For me, teriyaki chicken has always been marinated and grilled, so you get some nice crispy areas or color, and then more sauce is put on top. Here, it was a sliced up, seemingly just-boiled or poached chicken breast that had sauce on top. So the sauce flavor didn't get into the chicken at all. It was weird. Sure was expecting a Japanese restaurant to get this dish right.

Katsu-Ya dies a great job. But this particular location on Ventura is something else. Everyone in this Katsu-Ya are so friendly, so polite (even non-Japanese) and so accommodating. When you go th st e it's like going to grandma's house with all the love and affection. Good job.

I ordered the bento box to go. I loved everything. They made it fast and I ate it faster. Very thankful to have katsuya near by because it's one of my go to sushi spots.

    Tuna on crispy rice

This is a staple for my company lunches as we are walking distance and the food always hits the spot. The great thing is that they take reservations which is needed for our big groups. I'm a fan of their white fish flight and chirashi bowls. My coworkers love the popcorn shrimp tuna roll because the shrimp is nicely fried and sweet and complements the tuna roll perfectly. You can't go wrong with anything here! Parking is located in the back so make sure you get it validated before you leave.

First time trying this Katsu-ya location and wasn't disappointed for sure, cozy little spot with great service for sure. Their food tasted as authentic as I've had at other sushi restaurants for sure, full of flavor and most important fresh. Plenty of parking in the back parking lot, just a fun place to visit enjoy some good sushi and saki.

Delicious! Ordered steak teriyaki, meat was juicy and tender! Cute little spot. Service was amazing! Will come back again and again.

Food was good but very limited menu and higher prices compared to other locations of the chain. Probably won't be back any time soon.

Sushi, Bentos, appetizers, etc. The place is not large inside, but you can sit at one of their tables or at the sushi bar as well. They are open from 12-2:30 for the lunch crowd and then again later for dinner. We got a ton of things, my receipt was too long, had to fold it over for the picture. Started with some spicy edamame's and shishito peppers, cooked perfectly. Miso soup, salmon, spicy tuna, spicy scallop, white fish, veggie tempura, a BSC roll, unagi, baked crab and California rolls. Enjoyed everything very much except for the baked crab roll, it was ok, but not my favorite and I would not order again. Everything else I would get again. There are a few spaces in front on Sepulveda, but you should park in the back in the large parking lot that they have. The lot is not free, just an FYI. Staff was really nice and took care of us well. Their prices are not bad for sushi, more reasonable than others, but the sushi is still high grade and very good. The restaurant is located in a strip plaza, so there's plenty of parking, though it can feel a bit narrow, so be cautious. Upon arrival, you're greeted by a hostess at the front counter who seats you or directs you to the bar area. I usually sit at the bar and grab a seat by Chef Tom. The restaurant has plenty of seating, but I've seen people waiting outside to be seated, so it does get busy. Every time I've been here, the place is nice and clean, and they have a TV with games on at the bar, creating a pretty chill vibe. I typically order a variety of sushi. When I first came, I ordered my usual rainbow roll, blue crab roll and garlic shrimp roll, but then I started letting Chef Tom surprise me with a variety of nigiri, and he hasn't disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and delicious and on weekends, they have halibut, so if you like that, it's only available then. The cut felt sloppy, and there was even a bone present, which made it hard to enjoy at all. More concerning than presentation was the overall freshness -- it had that slightly off, fishy edge that you just don't want when you're ordering salmon, especially if you normally love it. On the brighter side, the Hubba Hubba roll actually delivered. Balanced, flavorful, and easily the best thing we ordered. That said, the experience took a weird turn when the waitress cleared the plate while we were still actively eating from it. It felt rushed and a bit dismissive, especially for a restaurant at this price point. The vegetable gyoza was an easy skip. Dense, difficult to bite through, and oddly bland -- not much else to say there. The Big Daddy Roll and 911 Roll were fine, but nothing stood out. The fish didn't taste especially fresh, the rice felt a little past its prime, and overall everything leaned more "okay sushi night" than anything memorable. At the end of the meal, I just wasn't convinced. Between the inconsistency in freshness, a couple execution issues, and the pacing of service, I'm not sure I'd return -- especially given the price. One good roll in an otherwise uneven experience isn't quite enough to bring me back, but I'd be curious if this was an off night or just the norm. Casual spot with premium pricing.
