Miho is a tiny sushi spot in Tarzana (6 tables plus 7 chairs at the bar) that somehow manages to have a wide and interesting selection of fresh fish every day just like sushi bars used to, back before certain major players decided that a limited menu of middle-of-the-road items was the most efficient, most profitable path to retirement. It's true that you can get fresh, good sushi at places like Katsuya and the like, but their offerings have lost their edge and lost their excitement, while I've lost my will to pony up big bucks for meals from chefs who'd rather be watching Obsession at the multiplex. And so, Miho is the antithesis of all that pescatarian homogenization. This cozy nook manages to have everything you want: toro (fresh, fatty and fabulous), Saba (smoked and savory chewiness), Uni with Quail Egg (rich and decadent), and Ankimo (monkfish liver, mild and very satisfying). Sake is cold and reasonably priced, while the service is friendly and completely tuned in to each customer. To finish my meal, I asked the chef to make me a hand roll version of one of their most abundant dishes: the New Guy Roll. Bursting at the seams with Spicy shrimp & crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, creamy sauce and eel sauce, it wasn't easy for them to reconfigure and re-portion everything into a handheld model -- but do it they did, and the result was both tasty and manageable. Make no mistake, Miho is a gem that's hidden in plain sight, in a storefront between Round Table Pizza and The Sugar Mill Saloon, and they're serving some of the best sushi you'll get in Tarzana. Go. Miho is well priced, pinnacle quality and exceptional service!!!! It's a small hole in the wall off of Ventura Blvd in Tarzana and although we were hesitant at first, we decided to give it a shot. How could a sushi join in a largely jewish strip mall be any good...well, because they're some of the nicely, most talented Chefs, that how! The presentation of the rolls, the nigiri and the sashimi is gorgeous and if you sit at the bar the speed the sushi comes out makes you feel like you're the only person in the restaurant (who wouldn't like that?). We had to wait about 15min to get in, there's typically a wait but it's a wait well worth it and honestly it's more exciting this way. Make sure you put your name in when you arrive! Came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, but didn't wait too long to sit. Service was fast too! It's really small inside so it can feel a little cramped depending on where you are seated. There was a roll I got that had four different rolls on one plate (blanking on the name, but snapped a photo) and it was so good! I loved getting to try different things. Their salmon was delicious. I also enjoyed my spicy yellowtail hand roll. Came here for a girls dinner and overall it did not disappoint. I'm baffled by the reviews. This is a place to only order COOKED items. I've been here multiple times and given multiple chances because it is nearby but the raw fish quality is very inconsistent. I've been here multiple times and been served fishy, inedible sushi or sashimi with bones, that I have had to send back and same for delivery. Their cooked and fried items are fine but then it makes you lose confidence in the quality because of the other stuff. The last straw was getting takeout and we received 3 hand rolls that were generously stuffed...full of rotten fish. The smell was so bad we had to immediately throw it away in the outside trash. Popped in for lunch and this place did not disappoint. Its a small location with friendly service and delicious food. I am trying not to overeat lately and that is very difficult to do when you have good sushi. Needless to say, I had a very hard time not ordering more food. My first selection was the Albacore sashimi and it was magnificent. The fish was fresh, it was lightly salted, and practically melts in your mouth. Next, I ordered the Tarzana roll which was excellent. It tasted fresh and was balanced well with flavors. My favorite part was the crispy onion. Had lunch with my mom and son earlier today. Our first time here recommended by friends. It's a small and cozy sushi restaurant with wonderful customer service. Very friendly and attentive staff. We enjoyed our lunch here . The rolls we got were fresh and the prices are reasonable. Some of the rolls we ordered had to much going on as far as sauces. Well sauce, creamy sauce, mayo sauce, chili oil etc on one roll. I couldn't taste the fish on some rolls, all I tasted was the sauce. But the ones without tooo many sauces were delicious. I really liked the albacore on fire roll. The second favorite was the crazy tuna toll. We also enjoyed the spicy tuna hand roll. The rest were too saucy ... Long time listener, first time caller! We've been coming to Miho for years, so this review is long overdue. I could write a dissertation on how good it is, so I'll keep it to a couple of points. 1. Sushi is always fresh! Japanese fish gets flown in multiple times a week. You know it's good when they put the Japanese fish on a chalkboard rather than on the menu. 2. Service and ambiance is fantastic. Miho is a small family/friend owned restaurant, so it feels like welcome home 3. We always have fun. There are nights that Miho feels like a bar at the end of the night, some nights we break out into song and dance, other nights are pure comedy! Sushi is fresh and delicious. Service is friendly and accommodating. Place is clean. I highly recommend the Crazy Tuna and the Miho rolls. They have a special every week that changes depending on what gets delivered straight from Japan. Today we had the Rubyfish and it was incredibly fresh. I'm a regular at this restaurant but unfortunately the service here is terrible and I will not be spending my money here again. I came with my friend and decided not to order my regular dish, but rather try something new. After I received the plate, I realized that I didn't like how it tasted and kindly asked my server if they could switch it out. Our server didn't handle the situation professionally and exploded at my question, stating that if I was a regular, then I should have known what my order would be. With so many good sushi restaurants on Ventura I'm not sure how this one has such good reviews. It's okay. Sort of felt like the dive bar of sushi without cheap prices. I was immediately turned off after using the bathroom, it was disgusting which made me question the cleanliness of the whole place. The service was good. I frequented Miho 2 to 4 times a week, had business meeting there and always shared my cold sake with the owners as well as any one sitting next to me on the counter to support their business. In 2019, I gave 5 stars. The place I once loved so much I can say, I will never return again. After being gone due to my move to North Hills, I was deeply disappointed upon my eager return... Fiat, one of the owners treated me as if he disliked me or did not know me. He never smiled once and acted as of he did not know me. He made me feel unwelcome and very uneasy as if I did something wrong throughout my meal so I only spent $100 and left. I never spent less than $100 with each time I ate here. But most often my bill was $160+. But this time, the sushi rice was a bit soggy. And so the sushi was not very good. I still spent over $100 and shared my cold sake with the couple next to next to me. But because I had not been there for about two years, I was treated as if I was not wanted.
