$5 Tuesday and Wednesday's for all movies! Beware of new top box office movies, the line will be wrapping all the way downstairs. You pretty much get what you pay for. The theaters are smaller with doors opening directly into the room without a hallway to block out outside lights. Seats can get filled quickly, so be sure to not come too close to movie times. Overall...Not the best, but it beats paying almost triple the price for movies every single visit. On the bright side, they have free popcorn with a drink purchase. When it comes to Triangle Square, the only thing Costa Mesa's white elephant has going for it is the movie theater. If not for that it would only be a home for rats and other vermin. Of course, it's hard to see a movie there as the entire structure is built so cheaply that any time a large truck goes by the entire building shakes. And, speaking as a fat woman myself, if you stand in certain parks of the cinema lobby, when a person whom weighs a lot walks by, the entire floor sways under your feet like tiny waves in a waterbed. As for the theater itself - while it's okay, it's really not worth going to. It's not the fact that the small popcorn is barely big enough for a two year old - it's the unprofessional behavior at opening. The box office is suppose to open at 11 am. I got there at 10:35 and waited, first in line. Yes, I'm one of those types of movie goers, always early, cellphone off, respectful of others around me. Now to me, when someplace is suppose to be open at 11 am, that means 11 am ON THE DOT. Especially when the first movie is shown at 11:10 am. Not so with Starlight. No, they were counting the money for the cash registers at 11:03. They weren't open until 11:08. Money and registers should have been finished at 10:55 at the latest. Not AT 11 and certainly not AFTER 11, but BEFORE 11. I also had to stand there and watch the cashier remove her facial piercings. I would've rather dealt with her with her piercings IN then watch her remove them. It's 2010, I have two (not visible) tattoos and both my ears are pierced. I'm not going to judge a person by their body modifications unless they have racist, Satanic, or overly sexual images visible. If it's required for her to remove her piercings before she deals with the public, fine, but she should have them removed BEFORE she enters the box office, NOT in front of the public. Otherwise let her leave them in. It's far less disturbing. Most of all, though, make sure that the box office is ready to open at 11 ON THE DOT. NOT after 11. This is just unprofessional and sloppy. As for other problems such as sound and such - well, there's not much to be done there. It's been like that since Triangle Square opened. The only solution would be to pull the entire structure down and rebuild it with good materials rather then the cheapest stuff on the market like they did the first time. All in all, I'd avoid going to any place in Triangle Square. Perhaps we could finally see Costa Mesa's Biggest Mistake shut down. Apparently they've changed the name to Triangle Square Cinemas since I posted my review. I haven't been back since I posted this review so I don't know what they're like now. read more

With the wonderful advice from my fellow Yelpers I visited this place on a Thursday because of the $4 dollar special. My overall experience was great. The seating of the theaters were updated, the arm rests can be moved upwards and the seats got that incline. Oh yeeeeeeh. The surround sound system was elevated to the point where it takes you "into" the movie itself, I don't even get that experience in AMC theatres anymore. The last time I ever heard a sound system this good was when I was in the bay area - Union City to be exact watching Star Wars Episode back in the day. My new favorite place! The only downside is the surrounding area that seems to be under construction of some sort. There is not much to do afterwards as there is only a Yard House next to it, everything else seems to have went out of business. I hope this place stays alive for the long run. 5 star for the free garage parking. One star off for the location. Not much to do afterwards or before the movie. read more

it's a pretty good theater, it's big and it is in a good location near other shopping areas. The speakers are not overly loud like in other theaters, this is a good thing as everything is getting louder unnecessarily which I am sure is increasing the amount of general hearing damage. The chairs are not as comfortable as some other theaters and you tend to bump the person next to you, but it is good enough. It's clean and everything is maintained. The area around the theater tends to smell like alcohol so there may be a lot of drinking in the area. Doesn't bother me but some people may make decisions based of that so I thought I would mention that. read more

People have adjusted to the reserved seating policy the enacted a while back. we don't have usher's going up and down with their flashlights trying to find seats for customers who are lost anymore. People have figured it out. It's a great value for the price. read more

I love that you can get such cheap tickets for the early bird! Totally worth it. Staff is always nice and friendly. Food and drinks are always good. The only thing I would complain about is that they need to remodel a little. The chairs usually are not comfortable and the floors in the theaters usually look gross. This is my favorite place to go for movies. Honestly it doesn't get better than here. It might be difficult to find parking at night but the prices here you cannot beat. Its located near a bunch of bars such as Yard House and Saddle Ranch if you wanted to get drinks after. Its 4 bucks for Tuesdays and Thursdays and Matinee before 12 is 5, and 6 dollars till 8PM. Students pay 9 dollars and regular admission is 10. The seating is comfortable where you can pull up the arms and cuddle with your babe. Theres adequate spacing and the popcorn is pretty good here. They lay out a bunch of spices on the table for customers to use. Ive tried a lot of things on the menu and items such as the pretzels are pretty good. Haven't had any bad customer service here and the prices for food is very fair. (I always buy something) I recommend getting the kids pack and maybe upgrading so you dont end up eating too much popcorn but you still get some candy and a medium drink. Also keep in mind, they show classic movies on Mondays. read more

Cheap theaters and there is a good reason why! Went to go see X-men Days of Future Past (great movie btw!) with my cousins here recently. Starlight was pretty close to our hotel in Newport and the times were perfect so we trekked over. Parking was free in the shopping center/mall complex which is a big plus. At $6 a ticket, the price was a pleasant surprise The tickets were cheap when considering it was opening weekend, about $6 for each of us and good reason! Starlight is in desperate need for renovations. The theater is small and definitely showing its age. My biggest issue: lack of stadium seating. Don't believe what Fandago/Flixter/whoever says otherwise. There is no stadium seating, just the old school stuff from back in the day. You will be peaking over people in front of you to get a glimpse of whats happening on the big screen. Whats even more disappointing is the fact that whenever someone walks in or out of the theater it floods the entire back with light from the lobby. There is only one set of doors for each theater and thus nothing to insulate us from the noise or light from outside. Overall a pretty 'meh' experience but at least the movie was cheap! read more

This was a great family movie place that was closer and less congested than Metro Point ... Keyword WAS! Since 24 hour fitness moved in downstairs and RUINED IT..... it's HORRID! The entire theater shakes like a constant earthquake and makes you literally want to vomit! I was so motion sick and I don't get motion sick! I thought I was going to see a movie with my kid, got tickets and seats then seen a sign on the #7 door that said the building shakes due to 24-Hour Fitness being downstairs and the building on rollers (earthquake retrofit no doubt). IT MOVES FREAKING CONSTANTLY!!! We got our money back and the girl said the entire theater loved like that now but what can you do about it! Hopefully if enough people bring it to their attention they will fix it so the Starlite theater can continue to have the 5.00 affordable shows without the entire place shaking! The shaking and rolling feeling made me nauseous and ruined the next several hours with feeling sick! This underground 24-hour fitness is a split, now there are 2 of them in the same block because the one across the street took over the downstairs of Triangle Square in addition to the huge complex they are already in. 24 HOUR FITNESS YOU SUCK! You've already taken over the parking for CVS, Bevmo, Mimi's and all of the other stores in the parking lot and now you're taking over the family theater, it's sad. I will not go to this theater again - if I wanted a freaking ride we'd go to Disney Land! read more

I came here yesterday for the first time hoping to watch Ice Age 3. However, I received the worst customer service I've ever experienced at a movie theater. First off, the line was crazy long (Tues/Thurs $4 tix + Dark Knight surprise surprise) so we waited 15 minutes to get to the front. Secondly, sold out shows are noted in the movie showtimes display and on the register window pane- Ice Age was not one of those displayed, so we proceeded to wait in line. Here's how my conversation went with the theater employee (he might have been the manager since he wasn't wearing the standard uniform): Me: "Hello, 5 for 8:15 for Ice Age please" Him: "Sold out" Me: "Uhm, excuse me why isn't there a sign saying so? We just waited in -- " Without even waiting for me to finish my sentence, he doesn't say a word and straight up SLAPS a paper saying "Ice Age: SOLD OUT" onto the window pane RIGHT in front of my face. . I was pretty shocked at his abruptness and rudeness and was still standing at the register window figuring out what to do/say, when he COMPLETELY disregards my presence and yells "NEXT IN LINE!" to the other people in line. Seriously? I'm standing right in front of you, you slam a paper onto the window in front of my face WHILE I was still talking, you don't even apologize out of professional courtesy, and you act as if I wasn't there and said "Next in line"??! I don't know what his name was or what his deal was, but whatever it is, he is definitely disrespectful, lacks any form of courtesy at all, and just earned a 1 star review on Yelp. read more

I came to this movie theater for the first time because I wanted to save a few bucks and it was in the area. I paid $6 bucks! They have a discounted price if you visit between 6pm-12am. I personally didn't like that it was in the same structure as a few restaurants and a gym. Parking as a little confusing and a little hard to find. The seats were pretty comfy but the theater room was a little small. Over all the staff was very friendly and my experience was good. So I'd come back for a $6 movie! Ehhh, it's an A-OK theater. Located in Triange Square, which is eerily quiet on it's own. The theater won't be able to stand a chance in this place if the business of the center doesn't pick up. As for the theater, no statium seating, which I dislike. People that were in the theater watching the movie when I went were loud and inconsiderate. Typical food court area with overpriced drinks and food. They also show current movies, which is nice. Bathroom and theater are clean. I think the only things really bothering me about this theater is the lack of stadium seating and the rude guests watching the movie. Only reason I'm coming to this theater is because I bought their Groupon deal. Once I use up my other two Groupon tickets, I doubt I'll be back. Happy movie going! read more

I have been here couple of times when I was visiting my then boyfriend. Popcorns are good here. $7 for a large tub with refill. Combo of large popcorn and drink with refill is $13 which is way less than other cineplex. They have $5 movie show any show time on Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Matinees are $6. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked with supplies. Seating are comfortable with good recline. They have early shows around 9ish. Plenty of parking available and easy to get around. read more

This Starlight Cinema is located on Harbor and 19th street in Costa Mesa. Three story building housing various businesses, including a bowling alley. This is just like any other cinema in So CA, pretty clean inside. Tonight they happen to have a plumbing issue in the women's bathroom. Stepping in, I notice water oozing from the drain in the area where you wash your hands..ok no worries-since I drank too much soda, and still have to go to the bathroom...upon flushing was a different story-water started to come up from the toilet, and I had to run out of the stall. It was like a slow motion moment in a rapid approaching scene. They had a girl inside trying to clean up the water, but I think they needed to call a plumber instead. Wednesday is $5.00 night, and after sneaking my sour gummy bears in my purse-cheap date night. The only problem I had is that the 24 Fitness is downstairs. When the jocks drop their weights, you can feel it inside the cinema-feeling like mini earthquake. read more

Looking to see the newest flick, but tried of spending $10 on movie tickets, then you have your salvationat Starlight Cinema. Every Tuesday and Thursday, movies are only $4 (3D is $7) and all movies before noon are $5. I always try to go on a Thursday night or a Saturday morning if I can. Also, ask to be apart of their frequent movie goer club and you can earn free popcorn, soda and movie ticktes. You have to have them scan the card before you do the transaction or else it won't count. Parking is in the parking structure and usually isn't too bad, but there is a lot of street parking across the street as well. read more

We bought our tickets and got in line to get snacks. I was loading up my app on my phone to use my points, and I let the gentleman behind me pass by because the app wasn't loading up. By the time it loaded up, the person we let through was done. Once we started ordering the girl said that we couldn't order because we weren't next in line? I said "we Let the person by because we weren't ready" she continued to say "I know, but since you weren't in line, they have to go next" totally skipping us! I love the theater at Triangle Square! I don't think my family and I would go to the movies at all with out it! Yeah, it's old and the parking situation stinks since the rest of the center got redone, but you can't beat the prices for new release movies! $4 all day, all movies on Tues and Wed, $5 for any movie before noon, and $6 for any movie before 6pm, even on weekends and holidays! Plus there's a coupon for free popcorn (with purchase of a drink) on their website, it's a tiny little popcorn, but you can upgrade it to a large tub with one refill for a couple bucks. Also if you plan to go often get a rewards card, they're free, but they don't hawk them like the big chains do so you have to ask. It's worth it though if you go in larger groups or you go often. You get a reward for every 10 tickets you buy (even the $4 tickets) tier 1 is free small popcorn, tier 2 is free small soda, and tier 3 is free ticket. :) read more

Went here based on a groupon deal two adult tickets plus large popcorn with one refill for 17.00. There were a ton of people in line, but that is expected on a Saturday night. I wanted to see Jurassic world but my boyfriend suggested SPY since Jurassic World was pretty much sold out. The nachos were so good, popcorn freshly popped and my boyfriend really enjoyed the FREE popcorn seasonings, nacho cheese flavored at other theaters it can be really pricey. We got nachos, a hot dog and two drinks for around 15.00. Which usually cost a little more another theatre. We had to sit up front due to it being packed and were still able to see the screen very well. Definitely would recommend this theatre. not the bells and whistles other theaters have but FREE PARKING, and a fun experience. read more

Went to see the avengers : infinity war and this theatre is small but offers good ticket deal like matinee etc . The only complaint I would have for my recent visit is that I just signed up for their rewards and I get a complimentary small pop corn and the concession stand girl Paola ( I think that's the right spelling ) was kinda not nice and she could have helped me by looking up my name in their rewards system but still put me through some hardship at the concession stand looking up my info on my phone with bad reception and a line of ppl behind me. The best time to come is on Tuesdays or Wednesdays where they have a $5 deal! The location is nice since there are plenty of restaurants and bar nearby to go out after or before the movie. Every time I've gone there, it's always been a good amount of people and never too packed or too empty. Great atmosphere all around and easy parking too right below it. This theater felt slightly outdated. Perhaps that's the feel they were going for. Rather than the high incline seating many modern theaters come with now days, you'll find the seating to be formated more along the lines of a low fowler's angle. It definitely took me back to my childhood where all I had to look forward to was the occipital portion of a stranger's head. Oh boy! Those were the days!!! You'll also find them seats to be slightly musty feeling and them rooms to be on the smaller side. Each showing will probably fit a good 100 bodies or so giving you a refreshing sense of claustrophobia. Nothing a good therapist can't fix!! But hey! $6 on weekends, for real?! Prices are low, and unlike the other reviewers, I did not find the theater at all musty/run-down. It was well-maintained, with a large clean entrance lobby, ample bathroom stalls (ladies) and though the individual theaters are smaller than the huge AMC/Edwards ones, I had no issue with AC, quality of seats were just fine, and lots of leg room. I personally prefer a smaller theater anyway, and this is great. Support independently-own theaters! read more

So as many of you know Edwards used to own this theater, during its time in the late 90's Triangle Square was a hopping place. But slowly all the restaurants moved out and left the place a concrete ghost town. I am honestly surprised it took Edwards Theaters so long to throw in the towel, but I am sure it was a reason behind it. At any rate Starlight took over this theater recently and added a touch of ghetto and a dash of low class. When you first walk in you noticed that the menu Edwards had is stripped down to about 5 food items and the regular drink choices. So we ordered popcorn, which was stale, and a soda which was supposed to be a coke but ended up tasting more like carbonated water. Oh yeah, we were also accused of not paying for a drink after the clerk rang us up, and gave us our change. Weird. No changes were made to the layout, the screen or the sound system. One thing you will notice is that now instead of playing music or having some sort of pre-movie entertainment before the preview the theater is silent. I mean uncomfortably quite. Oh yeah, those uncomfortable seats that we all know are still there as well. So I don't know if I am complaining or warning but I would steer clear of this one. I know Starlight Theaters offers a lower price cinema experience, but this is not worth the admission price. read more

I love to come here on Tuesdays and Thursday for the $4 tickets. It works on any movie they're showing with no restrictions. At that price I don't feel ripped off if the movie wasn't good. All I lost is $4 and a couple hours of my life. It does get pretty busy on Thursday nights especially when there's an opening showing. You have to remember to come here early to get good seats. The seats here are not the greatest but far better than others that I have experienced. It just sucks if there's someone really tall sitting in front of you. It is also great to come for an earlier because it is basically empty. Parking here is usually great but you know it's busy if you can't find parking in the structure. I've lived in the general area for about 5 years and never really knew about this place till this year, when I moved down the street from it. I always went to sutra too and its crazy how overlooked this place is. The place is not the biggest theater in the world or the nicest for that matter but its a good place to go to. 4 dollar tickets on tuesdays and thursdays, which is a hell of a deal. When it comes to food its just like your typical theater, same old overpriced stuff that they make a killing off of. Another thing about this place that I like is that there are no young obnoxious high school kids being loud in the theater. Parking is decent. You have to park in the 3 level parking garage. Sometimes the parking can get pretty annoying too depending on what time you want to go there. Came on a Tuesday afternoon. Tickets were $5 flat. Theater is the smallest I've ever seen but it's very cozy and clean. I love the red curtain set up. Seats are comfortable, armrests go up. Good prices. Popcorn is self-serve on the butter. Which is good and bad. I like when they do the butter - so they can put some in halfway. When you're given a full bag it's impossible to get it through all the way. So you have to leave your movie if you don't want bland popcorn after you get through the top layer. This theater seems to have the least amount of previews of any theater I have been to before, it is really nice! Instead of the usual 20 minutes of previews for a new film, there are like 5 minutes. Surprises me every time. Mens bathrooms are far from the theaters, sort of annoying. Location is great. Good parking. Very comfortable seats. A few theaters are setup very odd. There is no partition between the doors you enter and the theater. So if someone comes in late or leaves for the restroom the entire theater is flooded with the lobby lighting. It's VERY distracting when you're trying to lose yourself in a movie. The food service is quick. read more
