The disappointing thing was that after the estimate, I called and Michelle told me I would have an estimate within 24-48 hours. I ended up cancelling with them after 4 days of no estimate. Jack was my estimator, he knew I was in a time crunch to turn the home over to new tenants who had kids starting school at the end of August. Jack's quote estimated the job would take 95.9 hours which calculates to approx. 12 days. On August 28 @ 4:00 p.m. Cameron texted me asking for a phone call. When I phoned him he said he needed to pick up a progress payment. I reminded him that the contract says I am obligated to make a progress payment when 1 coat of paint is on all walls. I explained that the downstairs had not been touched in 12 days! At that he HUNG UP ON ME! ****Yes, the OWNER OF THE COMPANY HUNG UP ON ME! He subsequently texted me and apologized for ending the call abruptly. The job took 18 days, most of the time there was only one guy, Jorge, painting a 2700 sq ft house. When I reached out to PB Painting, they sent 2 more guys for 2 days, then 1 guy for a couple of days. I lost $933.31 in rent due to the job not being done until 9/7. IT GETS BETTER.....I had no idea they would finish the night of 9/7. On 9/8 at 6 a.m. I got on a plane for a 7 hour flight during which Cameron threatened to file a Mechanic's Lien on the house and subsequently FORECLOSE if I didn't get him payment on 9/8! I explained I was out of town for 1 week and his text reponse was "No, that is not going to work, we need payment asap" Initially I deducted $933 from his final payment, then realized that this guy is completely out of control and I feared for my safety. I paid him the full amount due and WILL NEVER refer this company to anyone. However, I did require him to exchange a Lien Release for the payment, even though he said he never actually filed a lien. I did not trust him! ** PB Painting, Cameron Maltby should have his contractor's license revoked!

(There are a lot of companies/contractors out there who try to take advantage of their customers. It was refreshing for me to find a couple who were truly impressive and honest.) I chose Local San Diego Painting. Chad came out last week to review the three turrets which each having 3 rows of rough-wood trim - roughly 12', 14' and 22' from the ground and one turret was over a sunken bar area, so access above was tricky. (The surrounding ceiling is all wood, which we did not want painted.) His estimate was very reasonable and the two man crew did an excellent job. They were both very professional, and nice. They started and finished this job yesterday. They even stayed an extra hour past their normal hours to finish the job. I will not hesitate to use them at this house again and any of my rentals in the future.
