    Beignet fingers
    Jeffrey G.

We were passing through here on our way to Fla and had to stop and try there beignets. The wife and I had the Beignet fingers and they were excellent, very crispy outside and soft in the middle. They were really good and my wife also enjoyed their hazelnut coffee.

Coffee Call was so good, I found myself back the very next morning! What started as a quick stop for a classic beignet and café au lait turned into a full-on food experience. During my first visit, I ended up trying the turkey po' boy and a comforting bowl of chicken noodle soup--and I'm so glad I did. A kind server walked me through the steps of building my perfect po' boy, which made the experience feel extra personalized. After that, I joined the line to place an order for the beignets, and let me tell you--they were pillowy, warm, and just the right amount of sweet. They were so good, I came back the next morning to grab another batch to take home! The overall vibe at Coffee Call is relaxed and inviting. The pace is calm, and every staff member I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Whether you're a local or just visiting, don't hesitate to give this place a try. It's a Baton Rouge staple for a reason!

Thank goodness for Coffee Call. I'm embarrassed to admit there were multiple nights during my recent trip to Baton Rouge when a late night hankering for beignets led me here. These are so damn good. Hot and fresh pillows of dough topped with sweet sugar. It's a pretty no frills operation but that's what makes it great. The one accoutrement they do offer is a shaker bottle of extra powdered sugar at the table which I took advantage of (although I uncapped it and just poured on the sugar, no shame here). I'm actually sad I don't live closer as I will be dreaming about these for a long time.

A favorite local stop every time we visit BR! This spot has such deep memories for our family. While it might not be in the same location it was 40 years ago it is still the same fantastic beignet fingers from my childhood!

The staff were very nice. The place was clean. The food was made fresh. I'll be back.

Large cafe au lait and small order of beignet fingers

It's a community meeting spot for seniors and ladies groups. Orders of coffee I. White ceramic cups and plates of beignets and beignet fingers filled the powdered sugar covered tables. Orders were taken at the end of the line with self-serve coffee, cafe au lait and hot chocolate in dispensers. The beignet fingers kept under a hot lamp in w small tray. It was hot when served with freshly sprinkled of powdered sugar. The cafe au lait did not have the strong hickory coffee flavor of Cafe du Monde. It tasted of more milk and slightly sweeter without adding sugar than Cafe du Monde. The beignet fingers were definitely easier to eat without making a mess! It was as good as the regular-sized beignets. The atmosphere is similar to Cafe du Monde.

This was the first stop on a family trip to the Emerald Coast. We left Houston super early in the morning and our plan was to get coffee in Baton Rouge as it was our halfway point. I got on my trusty Yelp app and found this place, right off the highway. The high ratings made it a no brainer for me. It is located in a corner of a little shopping strip with plenty of parking. It was early so we beat the crowds but it quickly got busy shortly after we arrived. I had a little deja vu as it looked very similar to a place I had in New Orleans called Morning Call, but with a different color scheme. Not sure if there is any affiliation. The space is large with plenty of seating. There are freezers off to the side with ready to heat items like gumbo and other Louisiana favorites. They have an open kitchen and you can see the staff hard at work. Customer service was ok, not alot of pleasantries, but I'm sure they were still waking up like us. The menu is pretty basic. Their claim is that they have the best beignets in Baton Rouge. I appreciate they don't say in the state because New Orleans might have something to say about that. The idea was to get coffee and hit the road, but when we saw the beignets coming out, we decided we would take time to enjoy some. Coffee wise they have that good ole Cafe Au Lait in different variations. I went with the vanilla hazelnut one and it tasted like regular coffee with just a hint of flavor. It was ok. The beignets won me over though. As soon as you order them, they drop them so they come out pillowy soft, with mounds of powdered sugar on them. I won't go as far as saying they're the best I had, but very good nonetheless. We also got beignet fingers which made for a way cleaner eating experience. It was some of the fams first beignet experience and they were happy. They also have a lunch menu which consists of sandwiches and soups and it looked pretty good. Overall, I was happy with this random stop we made here. As usual, Yelp lead me to the goods. I'd stop by if in the area again.

My goodness! Straight out the grease and powdered down with sugar. Delish! Service is quick. The song area very spacious and bright. But the real star is their beignets! Crunchy exterior and a soft dough inside that doesn't taste doughy. Had I not just finished eating for lunch... I'd order more. Don't sleep on this place.

    Marcus M.

Some of the best beignets I've had in a long time. They were hot and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cafe au lait was the best I've tasted before, smooth and strong. Service was quick and friendly. They also serve lunch items here like and such. Would definitely come back again.

Me and my wife came here after dinner. My wife told me that these are one of the best beignets in the city. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted by staff. The staff were friendly and polite. We ordered 3 Beignets with the powder sugar. The beignets were warm, soft and delicious. The taste of the beignets were phenomenal. The ambiance is customer friendly and has a lot of seating. This is a great place to get beignets and they have some other great options.

This is a hidden gem!! Go there and get your super fresh beignettes!! Do not be afraid to over do it: you can take the left overs hahahaaaa! If any are left over. They make each order fresh : it's delicious. So then when we were in, we noticed that they have a drive thru window for those lucky locals??? What? Life just got better!! We loved loved the hot and fluffy fried chunks of deliciousness covered in powdered sugar... oh yummmm!!! Enjoy!

Delicious food. Super fast service. Great ambiance- as a Disney kid it definitely felt like I was in the park but the food was way better. Loved the cafe ole iced! And the beignet's were top notch. I also got their potato soup which was so hardy and savory!

    Micayla B.

Take me back....... Staff is the sweetest. The having a mini soup and poboy followed by coffee and beignets I think is the American dream. I will be back very soon and very often

It came warm in a giant cappuccino mug and I don't even think she steamed the milk (the picture is actually how it came, I didn't touch it yet). They pride themselves on their coffee and I was impressed that they even had a flat white on the menu so I had high hopes. I also ordered the poached egg on the biscuit which came out as a hard boiled egg on top of a stale biscuit. I asked for an egg that wasn't " hard-boiled" and guess what came back on top... a mini quiche. I could see the confusion though, the cook probably thought that I wanted an egg prepared a different way than before. Anyway, the cheese on it wasn't even melted and the arugula was slimy like cooked spinach. Coffee egg cheese biscuit arugula . The only thing I ate was the old dry bacon. One out of five elements of that was edible. On another note, the atmosphere is very nice and it has a cool vibe. It has a really good potential, just poorly executed.

It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

But one thing that is more true than the Bermuda triangle is the Baton Rouge Bridge Crossing traffic back up. It's like as inevitable and predictable as anything can be and I am getting to enjoy it firsthand today. Always a traffic accident always a lane closure. Now usually I do the farm market Road north of Baton Rouge to avoid it but today I needed to go this way. The I-10/I-12/110 Triangle maybe? Despite not being a big coffee enthusiast, I have come to appreciate all they've brought to the table as a serious coffee destination. As a venue, it's a beautiful spot with a good amount of outdoor and indoor seating. Their creative use of branding with lots of yellow, distinctive fonts, and merch are displayed throughout the store, becoming a central theme of their decor. Coupled with natural lighting, plenty of seating, good WiFi and a cool display of their brewing process, it's evident they've taken big steps to ensure their venue is one of the least ordinary establishments in the city. They honed their craft in New Orleans and have managed to do the same here. Their New Orleans iced coffee was dark and potent, while their Japanese slow drip aka Oji drip iced coffee was pleasantly delightful. The cafe au lait is classic and a nice rendition compared to the many places that do the same throughout the state. The macchiato, cappuccinos, and americanos also deserve their own mention. Like any quality coffee place, they sell all kinds of different coffee brews by the bag both online and in store. They also sell food as well ranging from breakfast items to salads and sandwiches. Avocado toast seems to be a big hit here, but they have a wide range of open-faced toasts that includes smoked salmon, pimento and prosciutto. I am definitely eyeing their croissant sandwich for future visit. Prices are standard foodflation but I think the coffee and the ambiance will always be the central focus. They have a good amount of people on staff and therefore the waits are never too long. Customer services on point and the bathrooms are very clean. Parking is available in the back and there is limited street parking as well. With locations in Memphis as well as the OG in New Orleans, they should be very proud that they've done well in Baton Rouge.

Super nice, super sweet and super polite southern gal, like they usually are which is why I stay in the south. That Southern hospitality, ya dig? Anyways she had me pick my table, and then immediately brought me a menu and took my drink order. I gazed over the menu, and by the time she brought my beverage I was ready to order. I WAS going to go for the chicken adobo, but I didn't want rice because it will keep me up tonight because I don't eat a lot of complex carbohydrates. I hope the pancit noodles won't either.
