The workers there are very kind. You can tell they have a high volume output. I will say that the beignet were dense. Now I am no native to Louisiana at all. So if that's how they are supposed I'm all for it. They load up your beignet with lots of powdered sugar that a plus and leave powdered sugar containers on the table to add to it. They have their own coffee mixture with cream and sugar added to it. But they do have extra condiments to add too if you would like. Very affordable and bang for your buck. Very crowded place so it's def a fav within Baton Rouge. read more

Thank goodness for Coffee Call. I'm embarrassed to admit there were multiple nights during my recent trip to Baton Rouge when a late night hankering for beignets led me here. These are so damn good. Hot and fresh pillows of dough topped with sweet sugar. It's a pretty no frills operation but that's what makes it great. The one accoutrement they do offer is a shaker bottle of extra powdered sugar at the table which I took advantage of (although I uncapped it and just poured on the sugar, no shame here). I'm actually sad I don't live closer as I will be dreaming about these for a long time. read more

It's a community meeting spot for seniors and ladies groups. Orders of coffee I. White ceramic cups and plates of beignets and beignet fingers filled the powdered sugar covered tables. Orders were taken at the end of the line with self-serve coffee, cafe au lait and hot chocolate in dispensers. The beignet fingers kept under a hot lamp in w small tray. It was hot when served with freshly sprinkled of powdered sugar. The cafe au lait did not have the strong hickory coffee flavor of Cafe du Monde. It tasted of more milk and slightly sweeter without adding sugar than Cafe du Monde. The beignet fingers were definitely easier to eat without making a mess! This was the first stop on a family trip to the Emerald Coast. We left Houston super early in the morning and our plan was to get coffee in Baton Rouge as it was our halfway point. I got on my trusty Yelp app and found this place, right off the highway. The high ratings made it a no brainer for me. It is located in a corner of a little shopping strip with plenty of parking. It was early so we beat the crowds but it quickly got busy shortly after we arrived. I had a little deja vu as it looked very similar to a place I had in New Orleans called Morning Call, but with a different color scheme. Not sure if there is any affiliation. The space is large with plenty of seating. There are freezers off to the side with ready to heat items like gumbo and other Louisiana favorites. They have an open kitchen and you can see the staff hard at work. Customer service was ok, not alot of pleasantries, but I'm sure they were still waking up like us. The menu is pretty basic. Their claim is that they have the best beignets in Baton Rouge. I appreciate they don't say in the state because New Orleans might have something to say about that. The idea was to get coffee and hit the road, but when we saw the beignets coming out, we decided we would take time to enjoy some. Coffee wise they have that good ole Cafe Au Lait in different variations. I went with the vanilla hazelnut one and it tasted like regular coffee with just a hint of flavor. It was ok. The beignets won me over though. As soon as you order them, they drop them so they come out pillowy soft, with mounds of powdered sugar on them. I won't go as far as saying they're the best I had, but very good nonetheless. We also got beignet fingers which made for a way cleaner eating experience. It was some of the fams first beignet experience and they were happy. They also have a lunch menu which consists of sandwiches and soups and it looked pretty good. Coffee Call is a Baton Rouge institution. Its a place for dates, catching up with friends, homework, and to revel in sugary goodness. I'm not a big fan of the cafe au lait or the coffee, but you don't go to coffee call for the coffee. You go to Coffee Call to eat the best biegnets in the city. Its also a great place for business meetings. If you want to be a true businessman and nail the big meeting to get that promotion, do what I do: I wear black to Coffee Call to show dominance over all the other customers. I shower myself in powdered sugar before the rest of the team shows up. Once the other business people arrive, fit as many beignets in your mouth as possible. I can fit roughly 8 beignets my mouth. If you can only fit 2 or 3, thats okay. The point is just to make sure you hold eye contact with anyone that looks your way. As the meeting unfolds, you tap powdered sugar from the shaker onto anyone that disagrees with you or gets in your way. You can also sprinkle sugar on anyone that says something supportive of your ideas. This has won me 3 big projects and 4 promotions at my big business, Bigly Business. Anyway, Coffee Call is good. Our stop at Coffee Call was a complete fluke, as one of my friends needed to swing by Walmart while we had some time between events during my graduation weekend at LSU. While my friend went to Walmart, we went to get gas and decided to meet up at Coffee Call. Little did we know that this wasn't just a coffee shop, but a fantastic place to grab some authentically legit Louisiana lunch and dessert. The staff was AMAZING. So friendly and helpful and probably used to dealing with tourists like ourselves just coming in for graduation. Having not had much of anything for breakfast, I was quite hungry and became even more so after seeing that there was a Roast Beef Po'Boy on the menu. I'm sure there are other places to get a Roast Beef Po'Boy in Louisiana, but this one was absolutely delicious. There were two sizes - the one I got and a bigger one than this - and this size was just perfect for what I needed for lunch. On top of that, the gravy was so damn good that I mopped up every last bit of it with the bread. Luckily, I saved me some room for one of those delectable beignets which hit the spot, too. read more

Yes, it's located in a shopping center but step inside and it feels like you stepped back in time. The decor is minimal but charming with some old school lighting. Grab a tray and a mug and fill up your own coffee. There are no fancy Starbucks drinks here. They have iced coffee, and it's fine, but just get a mug of the hot stuff and keep moving. Your choices are beignets or beignet fingers (smaller/thinner pieces of dough). Unless you are extremely hungry, with a big group, or don't mind diabetes, get the regular plate of beignets. They are freshly-made, as light as fried dough can be, and delicious. They add a ton of powdered sugar to the beignets and the fingers and, if you don't agree, there are big shakers of powdered sugar on each table so you can move your own personal expiration date forward even quicker. There was so much sugar on certain tables, I was reminded of Tony Montana in Scarface. IYKYK. Come for the excellent beignets but don't expect fancy coffee. Grew up hanging out at Coffee Call with friends and have always loved the beignets and hot chocolate. Haven't tried too much else, a muffin here or there, but I can say 100% that the recipe for the beignets is perfection. I still miss wraparound outdoor seating from their previous location on college (many, many years ago when Walmart bought, built, and changed things up). This one though does have the perk of a drive thru though. Recently, I knew I'd be driving by and called for a poboy to go. Somehow I've gone to Coffee Call what feels like hundreds of times but never tried anything besides breakfast stuff. I ordered the barbecue poboy, and it was fresh and ready plus waiting for me in the drive thru line when I got there. Can't beat that service, and of course, my love for supporting local ensures I'll be back for more! We stopped here on our way out of Baton Rouge on the recommendations ration of a friend. It was a Sunday a.m. around 8am. We ordered a large order of beignet fingers for the road and a separate order of three beignet's to take to our hostesses. My daughter got a blueberry muffin and it was all divine. They were so very good and by the time we were 20 min on the interstate, we were both covered in powdered sugar and wishing we'd gotten milk from their cooler. Just stop. Rumor is their beignet's are better or as delicious as Cafe Du Monde' in NOLA. Honestly I don't know how they could taste any more delicious. Baton Rouge is synonymous with many things and Coffee Call's beignets should be near the top of your list. Hitting Coffee Call late at night or early in the morning is a favorite past time. Growing up here, I used to go to Coffee Call when they were at their previous location a block away on the same side of College Drive. They moved to this newer location awhile ago. It's much bigger and has a drive thru, but their beignets are still the best in Baton Rouge! Large spacious dining room and coolers on the far wall filled with containers of gumbo, chili soup, mushroom soup, salads, and half gallon jugs of Iced cafe au lait and iced amaretto. We got there 30 minutes closing after the LSU UAB game. Start at the end of the line. Grab a lunch tray and put your cut on it. Then go down the line and pick your dispenser of cafe au lait, coffee, or hot chocolate. At the end of the line, square up with the cashier with what you want to order. We got an order of beignets, a small beignet fingers and hot chocolate. Go ahead and grab a bunch of napkins (powder sugar will go everywhere) at the side table and find yourself a table. About 5 minutes later, they called my name and I went back to the cashier to pickup my food. The order of 3 large beignets are snow covered with powdered sugar and "steaming" hot. If that's a small plate of fingers, I'd hate to see the large! We ate as much as we could. Went to the side table and got a white to-go bag from the large stack. Those pillows of doughy goodness really hit the spot. Yom Yom Yom Yom! There's not much to say if you know what a good beignet should taste. Their hot chocolate on this cool night was spot on! Stopped by as it is open late and I had to kill a couple of hours while my child was at a dance. This place oozes nostalgia and has the French cafe vibe. I remember spending many late nights here back in college hanging out with friends, though that was back at the old location across the parking lot. Besides the prices, not a lot has changed. They are famous for the fresh made to order beignets which comes in small or large. You can order the fluffy larger three-piece or opt for the fingers. I preferred the fluffy large beignets with the amazing powdered sugar all over it and inside the bag.
