I don't know how many times I've been here or why I haven't written a review, but the food and service here is great. Thursday wing night can't be beat. 75-cent wings - big, meaty wings, too. On this visit, I was a little surprised to learn that on Thursdays the selection of wing sauces is much longer than other days. But that's okay - I'm a fan of Mason's original sauce. Oh, and you'll find those on the appetizer menu. It's not a regular meal. Again - fine with me. An order of wings and a side of fries and I'm all set. The burgers are huge and delicious. The build your own burger menu means endless possibilities. Chicken and waffles and the onion rings are also very good. The only thing better than the wings is the build your own Bloody Mary menu. This is definitely one of our regular places (which also makes it surprising I haven't written a review. I'm such a slacker). read more

Really like the updates and expansion that they have done! The light fixtures are beautiful and give the atmosphere a great look. I had the steak, eggs, biscuit, and grits. Unfortunately, the steak didn't have any taste. I had to use A1 which I don't like doing because I prefer a well seasoned, marinated steak. The biscuit was also really hard. The first time I tried Masons grill I was highly disappointed and swore I'd never go here again. My sister was in town visiting and she picked Masons. The meal this time greatly changed my opinion. We were sat fairly quickly and out server was very attentive. I ordered the Honey Jalapeño Wings and my sister had spinach dip. This was the second time I was trying these wings and this time it got me hooked. Those wings are so DAMN good! I couldn't even get a good picture of them..Fried perfectly and the wings are a nice sized and meaty. I will forever eat these wings now. The chopped steak was okay. Came here for brunch with a friend who recommended this spot. I'm glad she did! I enjoyed everything that I ordered and get food looked pretty tasty too. It's been a minute since I've been to Mason's but tonight was a good experience. There was one time in the past that the experience was not good at all and I think that's what keeps me shy of 5 stars right now. I'm waiting to be blown away. Tonight was really good. Met with someone for a dinner meeting. The restaurant was really busy and on that note maybe a tad bit noisy but it's good to see it being well-patronized. In the times I have been I've almost always run into a friend or two. As for the food--my friend ordered the boudin-stuffed onion rings and I tasted it. It was not as "stuffed" or as "fat" as what was shown on the menu but it was quite tasty. Order that and a side and you've got a good meal, I think. I would order it again. She had a build-your-own burger which she had sandwiched between two grilled cheeses and she seemed to really enjoy it. The side of sweet potato fries looked quite appetizing. I had the spinach and chicken quesadilla. It was well-filled with what tasted like a hot spinach dip, chicken and mushrooms. It really was better than I had expected it to be, and I definitely would order that again, as well. We both ordered dessert. She enjoyed traditional chocolate on chocolate cake and I had the cheesecake. The cheesecake was quite different, and not in a bad way. The texture of the cheesecake was whipped and fluffy--not dense at all as is more customary of a traditional cheesecake. It also has a delicious crust with pecans and it had a praline-esque flavor to it. I am glad that sauce was not offered because I think it would have taken away from experiencing the flavors of the cheesecake, which had notes of vanilla bean. Let me not forget to mention that it was served in a square and not your usual triangular slice. The portion size was also not overwhelming. It says "limited availability" for the cheesecake on the menu which makes me think it may really be homemade, and not a lot of restaurants like this make homemade desserts. Finally, I think the overall value of the food is great. The menu is broad, which typically does not translate to great food, but that's not the case here. Next time I hope to have that 5-star experience I remember from when we brought the kids years back. read more

First time and I've fallen in love. We ordered the shrimp and grits (9/10), the boudin omelette (7/10), and the "jack'd up" potatoes (10/10). The shrimp and grits were perfection. I absolutely adored the shrimp and grits, perfectly seasoned and the shrimp were seared to perfection. The omelette was cooked so fluffy and was one of the better omelette I've ever had. I hate an omelette to be scorched and their's was far from it. NOW THOSE POTATOES!!!! Dude 10/10 I could've eaten a plate of just those potatoes. We had the pleasure of being served by Hayden at Mason's Grill, and he was absolutely amazing! Super nice, attentive, and comical -- he made our dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. Unfortunately, management left a lot to be desired. We ordered a drink that was honestly just not good, Hayden did attempt to rectify the issue to the best of his abilities. Management was called and instead of making things right, we were told it was "policy" not to remake or remove it, even though it wasn't drank. That was disappointing and not very customer-friendly. Despite that, Hayden didn't let it sour the experience. He came back with his great personality and continued to serve us with the kind of service every paying customer deserves. It's like a giant bar. It's hard to hear in it but there are plenty of TVs to view. Overall, I think I need to go back again. I think people should try it and see. I asked for a Paloma the bartender Vic ( female,on receipt) told me should would need to google it so I kept my expectations pretty low. Wasn't the best but doable. I noticed when she made the drink she layered it like a cake. I figured that's why it didn't tasted right. So I told her to shake the tequila grapefruit and simple syrup then add the soda on top. Well when she gave me the receipt she had charged me $10 for a Paloma (1st drink) and $5 for a Tequila well (2nd drink) . I asked her is a Paloma not a well mixed drink. She said it is but she made the first drink with vodka realized she made it wrong when I gave her instructions on the 2nd. She made no attempts to correct the receipt by making it $5 or removing. I don't drink vodka and I was very disturbed that she was not going to tell me she had made the first with vodka. She claimed their register shows Paloma with vodka when she selected it. I have never heard this but regardless would that still not be a well mixed drink. When she googled how to make a Paloma for the first drink - it shows tequila so I'm not sure why she didn't ask for clarity or inform what she did. Idk this is just not the place for me I guess. It's a great vibe and everyone seems to love it. I haven't had a good meal there yet. The people are so sweet and friendly. I tried the tilapia with grilled shrimp and sweet potato fries. The tilapia was well seasoned but the shrimp didn't look like they were grilled long enough. The fries were definitely fried for too long in grease that had other parts of something in them. I couldn't even eat a third of my entire lunch. Not sure after all these years I'm going to give them another try. So sad considering this is a hot spot around here and I really wanted to like it. read more

We got masons to go for lunch today at my work. Everything on the menu is so heavy or fried food. Even the grilled platters and soups feel very heavy. I decided on the grilled chicken salad which is lettuce, grilled chicken, strawberries, pecans, corn, red onions, avocado, and cheese. Weird mix but was excited to try it! I put no cheese on our order and it still came with cheese, bummer. But it also had like 3 little slithers of strawberries on the salad. All together it wouldn't have equaled even a half of a whole strawberry. The chicken was good and the strawberry walnut vinaigrette was a nice flavor adder. Overall the salad was good but I wish it had more strawberries and less cheese. read more

I didn't try the brunch but it seems that might be the stronger meal at this place. I had the Grown Up Grilled Cheese Sandwich and added spinach. There is option to add bacon or spinach... the waitress recommended to add bacon... but not my taste. Mason's has never been a stellar, stand out experience for me. I've gone for the overhyped brunch before a couple of times, and most recently we went for dinner. This was my first time going since the new ownership took over, and I do hope they have some much needed improvements in the works. First, parking - it's not great, there is a main lot that fills up quickly and the narrow lane makes it down right dangerous to maneuver. They have parking alongside the side of the building with a gravel lot. People who park there don't really consider that other vehicles may wish to park there as well, so they sort of park at will there. Additionally, there is not enough lighting in the back - walking out to my car after dinner was a little bothersome as there is a wooded area back near where I parked, and I really did not feel that safe. Thankfully, a couple was walking out to their car, and I think they sort of glanced at me a few times to make sure I was okay. I will not be parking back there if I return in the evening again. I would have hoped after the 2016 flood they would have evaluated the layout and design a little better. The acoustics are super bad and both the restaurant and the bar get rather noisy. Though it was just redone after the flood, the décor is very outdated. Maybe they did it for the charm, but it could have been modernized a little. Service was great - and there is a TON of staff working there. We never felt neglected or overseen. Our group was quickly seated and drinks ordered while we waited on the rest of them. (I think all the people in the cars must have been in the bar area because the dining room always had spots). The artichoke bread bowl was really good. I would order that again. The menu is pretty "Louisiana" - lots of fried stuff, a few grilled dishes. Our group ordered burgers, poboys, and the Thursday night wings special. I ordered the ahi-tuna salad. The tuna was cooked pretty well - just a light sear as it should be. It's on a spring mix lettuce blend - not the most fork friendly salad. Maybe I missed the note on the menu, but there was blue cheese mixed in throughout it, not really a fan, but maybe my oversight. There wasn't anything overwhelming about it, but it was not bad. The drinks were meh. I ordered an old fashioned and apparently some new liquors were on stock, but they didn't know them and didn't list them anywhere. The drink was very sweet with muddled cherries lining the bottom of the dish and not much of a traditional flavor. I also ordered a bloody mary. They left the cayenne salt off the rim of the mason jar and the type of vodka I ordered wasn't great (my fault), but overall, it was an okay one. They pride themselves on their bloodies, but maybe they're just better with brunch. Again, not a bad experience, but I suppose I just expected more from them. They're kind of a "BR staple" but with so many other places to choose from, I don't think Mason's would cross my mind as a first choice. read more
