The same day, I received a call from the company to set up the appointment. Sean, the Koala rep, did the estimate. He was straight forward, honest, and didn't pressure. The estimate I received was less than what I had budgeted for it so I was happy. He made a recommendation for cupola fans in the attic, which was something I had been considering. The company was able to easily make the appointment on a day I was off so it didn't disrupt my schedule. Sean's crew arrived early. All members of the crew were very polite and friendly. They were very efficient. The fans and the insulation were done in only a few hours. The Koala team took the utmost care to clean up after themselves, even thought they did a pretty great job of not making much of a mess. They performed the cleaning service in less than 2 hours and showed us photos of the inside of our air ducts and dryer vent, which weren't horribly bad. We've lived in our home for about 5yrs and haven't had it cleaned since the build. The cost was about $400 for both cleaning services. They do have polite people and do decent work but I did not have a good experience with their repair business. An annual inspection turned up a couple of small problems - low refrigerant in a system and a nearly failed condenser fan in another. No argument with that conclusion so I said go ahead with fixes. Got the invoice and should have paid more attention - a price gouge of epic proportions. Here's what I sent them that got rejected by their system: PS - registered professional engineer who should have paid more attention. 'I was not here when this work was finished, and I have no issue at all with the technician and work performed. He was professional. I agreed to all of the work. But I regret now not doing additional homework on the cost. A one pound 410a add should cost more like $100 at the high end all in. Easy to find on google or Yelp), given you can get a 25 lb Jug in the range of $250. And yes, there is labor and overhead in that , but for for a 30 minute job $325 seems excessive. I also was able to source the replacement fan motor with an identical Lennox model# from a number of sources- from around $200. Again, that doesn't include labor. So if I'm generous, you got $300 in parts, add 20% for miscellaneous. And yes, I get that there is 'Bob's guarantee' and you have overhead, but an 1800+ bill for less than two labor hours of work, make it 3 with travel time and even at 150 per hour - and maybe 450 in parts and material -the total markup at 2x is to me excessive. Plus your billing is deficient in the level of detail so it's even hard to understand how you could add it up to that much. My wife paid the bill of course, but with these prices even though the service is good I won't be using or recommending Bobs for repairs in the future. I'll do my homework.' PS - last postscript. You may have noticed Bob's no longer responds to Yelp reviews. Must be too busy. Or they don't care. Neither one is a good sign.

After inspecting the system, he actually took the time to show me pictures and explain what was going on. Turns out everything with the system was fine, and I didn't need new ductwork at all--it was just my AC filters. He even recommended the right kind to use. I honestly couldn't believe it was something so simple. It's rare to find a company that's this honest and doesn't try to upsell unnecessary work.
