The lattes were good enough, but the attitude of the barista was less than good. They have a restroom but it is not signed. When I asked if that was the rest room, the barista was rude. You'd think if they had a restroom, they would make it clear to customers. I certainly wouldn't want to open the door and find a supply room. read more

State Street Coffee Company has an amazing vibe to the place. The ambiance pretty much screams exactly what it is, a small, mom-and-pop, locally owned coffee shop in a small Midwestern city. The service here was friendly and outgoing and the overall experience was a positive one. When I travel for either business or pleasure, I like to avoid the chain restaurants. I like to experience something that I cannot get at home. Yes, there have been times where I have been disappointed. However, I think that the positives have far outweighed the negatives in dining out locally as opposed to going to the tried and truly chain restaurants that I can eat at when I am at home. Plus, I think it only enhances these visits she try something that a community embraces as its own. This experience was one of those wins. I am glad that I stopped by here and I will give it five stars. read more

I've gotten coffee from here multiple times and have yet to be disappointed! Latte with soy milk and butter rum syrup, iced latte with soy and maple syrup, mackinac mocha.... all very very delicious. It's nice to have a good coffee shop in cheboygan. My only complaint is that they are very slow. They take your order, make it, you pay and then they get the next persons order. Listen I love me a hometown coffee shop, hell I love any coffee shop. It's definitely cute and has the charm of featuring fun coffee adjacent items and scones. HOWEVER, having been multiple times now, the coffee/espresso is always burnt, the lattes aren't great (especially when you're watching the shot expire in real time) and the set up for the barista isn't functional (repeatedly running to the back for anything and everything- including ice... during the summer) . I also have to agree with a previous review- I'm not asking for rainbows and sunshine but the barista (who is the owner to my understating) looked actively grumpy about having a line and did not even crack a smile or a greeting. Overall, disappointing and not worth the $ or trip. read more

My hubs and I went up to Cheboygan for a few hours and stopped by Cheboygan's downtown area. I told my hubs to be on the lookout for a coffee shop and by the time we reach the end of the downtown strip, he pointed out SSCC. We parked behind the store (free and small parking lot) and walked over to the front. I'm not sure how much business the whole city gets, but we assume it's not very much during the winter. Anywho, right when we walked in, we were greeted by the barista and showed us where we could find a drink/sandwich menu. I could tell just how quaint this coffee shop was just by the interaction we had with the barista. She gave us a brief run down of the drink menu and told us if we didn't like any of the ingredients, they can take it out or substitute it for something else. So that was nice that we could customize our drinks. This coffee shop is ran by the barista and her sister and have been open since 2005. When I asked if they were the only coffee shop in town, she told me there are other places around town that sell a few coffee drinks, but primarily sell and are known for the food. They do offer sandwiches, breakfast items, and dessert, but this store is primarily known for and sell more coffee drinks. My hubs is normally a black coffee kind of guy, so I was surprised that he wanted a specialty drink. Since he's a fan of coconut, he got a large almond mocha joy latte. I have to say, it had a nice touch of coconut, where it didn't overpower the drink. I was thinking of getting an affogato, but thought, 'when am I ever going to be back here and do I really want something that I can make myself?' So I decided to get the Mackinaw Mocha...which was basically espresso, caramel, chocolate, and milk. I absolutely love that they offer several different milk options (whole, 2%, skim...). I love visiting small towns, mainly because most of the places are going to be mom and pop shops and they have their specialities. I was a little surprised they carried Ghirardelli's chocolate syrup and single chocolate squares (which is a San Francisco brand)...I assumed they would carry local or even sanders chocolates. Regardless of the brand, my drink was delicious! It wasn't too sweet, yet I could taste a hint of both caramel and chocolate with every sip. They also use Da Vinci syrup (not sure where that's from lol). This store also sells cups, teas, tea infusers, coffee/tea canister, mason cups, and other knick knacks. Since my hubs loves collecting cups and his favorite color is yellow, we bought a mason cup for $4. Yes, a little pricey but we love to support locals and it makes great memories for us. Since I don't eat/drink large quantities, I wish all places offered small sized drinks. The drinks that we got only came in a 16 and 20 oz so of course I couldn't finish my drink..especially when it was hot. We paid a total of $8 for both drinks. I would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. We definitely will if we ever make our way back up north. read more

I love this local coffee shop! I've had the pleasure of having Jennifer make us several coffee drinks. She is very friendly and helpful and, is fine with customizing the drinks. My experience staff wise is that most are efficient and friendly but Jennifer is the most welcoming. They have a lot of cute coffee, tea and local gift items. I haven't had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy my coffee in the shop but it looks like a pleasant place to sit and relax. There are salads, scones, cheesecake, etc to nosh on while enjoying your coffee. They also have a small table and chairs outside where you can enjoy the small town flavor. If you like coffee and like to support small business, stop here while in Cheboygan! read more

Maybe I'm just a little spoiled being able to drink various great coffees throughout the twin cities in Minnesota but the cold press was the worst I've ever had anywhere in my entire life. When I ordered it the barista tell me what take a minute because she had to chill it!?! Since when do you have to chill cold-press as supposed to be already be chilled that's the process of making cold press. It tasted like they took yesterday's coffee and just poured it over ice and added some milk to it. read more

I was on a desperate hunt for a good cup of coffee after living on my local hotel coffee for 48 hours. Decided to try this place out based on the online review and let me tell you this place doesn't disappoint! The shop is quaintly decorated to match the season, and a frequent stop for locals throughout the day. The staff are attentive and patient in customizing each beverage order to patron's desires. They take the time to ask what type of milk you want and exactly how much cream or sugar you need. If you frequent the place enough they'll even remember your order! The baked goods are freshly made and definitely worth the indulgence. I highly recommend trying the pistachio muffin and blueberry scones. Absolutely scrumptious. Beyond just a solid cup of coffee and bite to eat, State street coffee provides a homey environment where people feel comfortable reading, working, or striking up a conversation with a neighbor. I would love to give this small town coffee shop in cheboygan more credit but, I can't for multiple reasons.. Number one: when entering, we weren't greeted with a warm welcome. You could just tell the barista didn't want to be there. The first thing she asked us was "what do you want to order" when we hadn't even looked at the menu yet. This was sort of rude and made us feel rushed. I then let my family order before me due to the fact I wanted to try my moms coffee before ordering mine and when she asked for my order I explained this and she gave me attitude that showed me she didn't want to wait. Number two: After we all received our drinks, all of our drinks were sub par. My mom ordered an iced latte and it tasted only of milk, no coffee at all or vanilla. My boyfriend ordered the Grizzly bear and his only tasted like a bunch of ice and glob of chocolate syrup, no taste of caramel at all. My dads drink was alright. He ordered the mocha so I would hope that would be made properly. Now comes my drink. I ordered the pink squirrel with raspberry coconut and white chocolate with an additional request of espresso. When i ordered, i asked if it's popular to get that with the coffee and she said yes it's good but ugly in color. I said okay! When my drink was done it looked bright pink so i knew coffee wasn't added and we even asked her and she said it was. I tried it in the car and it didn't taste like coffee AT ALL. I took the drink back in and asked for more coffee to be put in and got charged an extra 43 cents. Number three: While paying for our drinks, the total came to around $25. When the barista handed my mom the tablet to pay, the tip options were all super high starting at 15% and going up so my mom felt that she needed to do 15% even though we weren't at all fond of our beverages. This wasn't a huge deal, just figured i should add this in because we tipped 15% before getting charged an extra 43 cents for a shot of espresso. All in all, we just felt unwanted and not cared for while we were in there and the beverages were not great either. We will not be going back for these reasons but if you still like to try, you have been warned! Thanks for reading and i hope these problems can be fixed in the future. read more

I would love to give the business five stars, because it's so great to have a coffee shop in Cheboygan. I give it a three for two reasons. First, they're not very good with their lattes. They don't do the milk properly. Out of every ten lattes, two will be undrinkable, one or two will be excellent, and the rest good enough. In other words, it's hit or miss. This shouldn't be. The baristas need to up their game. Second, the staff could be more friendly. Nobody is rude, but there is almost never a smile. If I come in every morning, spend a few bucks on a coffee and always leave a dollar in the tip jar, can't somebody give me a nice greeting and at least pretend they are happy to see me and appreciate the business? read more

We lucked out: the owner''s sister was the barista on the morning we dropped in. Great decafe & treats. Unlimited refills and a super clean shop. A nice surprise for such a small town: many locals came in where she knew them by name & they had called in their orders. We'll come by for sure during out next visit to Cheboygan. read more

My husband and I who own a coffee shop and coffee roasting company in Monroe MI like to stop at coffee shops when we travel. They use Ferris coffee from Grand Rapids MI, and it was good. This is a quaint, little coffee shop. The menu seems on par with other small coffee shops but the staff was pretty friendly. They had a Christmas menu with a peppermint stick mocha that was definitely a plus in my book. Slightly less sweet than most equivalents. The cheesecake and scones looked good.
