This is a cute diner right on the main drag. We enjoyed it so much we decided to add it as a stop during our annual March trip up here. Breakfast on the way out of town! I got a couple of pancakes, a side of bacon, and a side of sausage links. A- My gf ordered the special which was a steak burrito. B+ Coffee B The service was an A. After a frustrating morning that started in Petoskey and moved on to Harbor Springs while sightseeing & trying to find a restaurant for breakfast, I somehow found myself in Cheboygan -- and starving! It was after 1:00 so I'd pretty much given up any hope for breakfast & no longer cared what the meal was called. And then, I happened upon Alice's Restaurant. Well, being a child of the 60s & 70s, I couldn't resist. It is a small, probably old little neighborhood restaurant -- somewhere the locals go. That's often a good sign. When I got my menu, I flipped it over and saw that they serve breakfast all day long! Yay! Right there, they earned at least 2 stars. I ordered one of their special omelettes -- mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes & I don't remember what else. It came with toast & potatoes. It was the ONLY decent breakfast I had on my 3 night trip up north. The omelette was perfectly cooked, with fresh baby spinach leaves and mushrooms. The potatoes were tender & crispy. If you're looking for a decent breakfast while in Cheboygan, it's worth checking out. read more

I'm leaving a review of the 2 times I've been to this place(yes, it's delayed). First time, several years ago at this point, I became very ill after eating here, I don't remember what I had. Maybe a year after, I went in with a buddy to give it another shot. Ordered a breakfast burrito with gravy. I got sent to the ER with food poisoning that day. It's literally the only place that's ever given me food poisoning, let alone twice out of 2 visits. Perhaps it's gotten better, but it's 0/2 so far. Staff were nice, I do remember that. read more

Went in with my wife, sat down and ordered coffees. Waitress walked to back of dining room and sat down with the other waitress and started playing on there phones. Waited 5 minutes as my wife sat and watched them still giggling and playing on there phones. So we left. I understand short staffing issues, but don't settle for people running your restaurants who don't care at all! read more

Quaint breakfast spot!! Very warm reception by the staff.... We were in town from down state. Food was hot and fresh... This is not a fast food shop and states that prior to going in the door... Good for them! If you have time to enjoy your meal go here... Coffee cup is always kept filled. Food is made to order and not over priced. Friendly staff...I think that is most important as I travel every week for business and food might be good but having a smile to go with it makes it even better. Good job Alice's ! read more

Alice's has a great breakfast menu - I recommend the pancake breakfast which is a diverse spread of pancakes, or a waffle, breakfast meats and a choice of potato. When it comes to Cheboygan breakfast Alice's is a step above the rest and is worth any wait you may encounter. The regulars are the salt of the earth with great local flare and insight into the downtown and beyond. read more

Alice's likes to serve big breakfasts. As if it's not enough to get an omelette filled with cheese, meat, peppers, onions, and oh yeah, topped with sausage gravy if you want, Alice's had to go and put "Stuffed Hashbrowns" on the menu, basically a giant omelette made of (sigh) potatoes instead of eggs. They fill it with three omelette items of your choice, plus sour cream. Or sausage gravy. And THEN they added a breakfast burrito to the menu, which is the same basic idea, but wrapped in a giant tortilla. The bread is fresh baked, the bacon is thick-cut, and the pancakes. Well, if you can complain about the pancakes, I don't think you and I can be friends. Want dessert? Order them with chocolate chips. Now, it's not ALL great. This is still your average breakfast joint. There's room for improvement on the flavor front. Maybe experiment with a few spices, you know, maybe grill those onions a little more. But, all in all, I'm ok with a place like this in little old Cheboygan. read more

Three of us had breakfast and were satisfied. Two of us had omelettes and they were fine, as ordered and tasted good. I had a poached egg and bacon and it was just right. I especially liked the bacon which they indicated came from Plaths, a local butcher. I liked it so much that I went to their shop and bought 2 lbs. Two small complaints: Wait time for our food seemed long and the place was not busy. Also the toast was very strange. It had no taste and when you took a bite it immediately turned into small crumbs. Came here on Labor Day after walking across the Mighty Mac. So this is a lunch review. The place was quite busy. Must be good for all these people to be here or maybe it's the only game in town? So decided to try it. I had the lunch special fish and fries and my wife had the whitefish. It all came with cole slaw, but they gave other choices. I liked the pictures on the wall, the waitress gave good service and I think the prices are reasonable. I'll post some pictures of the ambience, which is quite entertaining. Oh, and I thank this restaurant for helping me decide that I shouldn't order deep fried food any more. The broiled or baked tastes better and better for me too. read more

I got "The Hearty" with a side of Biscuits and Gravy and was overall impressed. The hearty came with bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast. I may be forgetting something as I went into food coma after eating here. The Hearty was fantastic, everything served up piping hot and fresh. The one downside, which is why only 4 stars, was that my biscuit and gravy were cold. Not ice cold, but room temp. The service was friendly and attentive. The water tasted a little funny, but that may have just been "Michigan Water". I don't live there full time, so I cannot say if that is normal for their water. I used to split my breakfasts between Alice's and Carnation; however, since the Carnation has burnt down, I see myself eating here a little more often. read more

For starters I waited 15 min for them to clean off one table for only me. I ordered my breakfast which consisted of corn beef hash, two eggs over medium, toast and hashbrowns. Nothing special or hard. I ordered my breakfast after another young lady did.. And 20 minutes before a five top table ordered there's.. Both the single lady and the five top table received their meals before mine. From the time I walked in the door it was over an hour before I received my meal.. The first bite of the corn beef hash, I spit it out because it was rancid, I brought it up to my server and she said oh well it's like that sometimes.. I ate maybe 60% of the rest of the food. I still left a decent tip. When I went to pay for my meal, the corn beef hash was still on my ticket. I will never eat there again ever, repeat F***ing ever... read more

Shockingly bad. Don't let the nice exterior fool you. I had a $9 omelette that was terrible. Thin, hard and irregular inside. The potatoes were burnt or undercooked and totally uneven. The toast flaked off into my throat and I had a coughing fit. My friend's $10 whitefish and chips had only one meager piece of whitefish. To be honest I couldn't believe how bad the food was. It would be one thing if it was a hole in the wall greasy spoon with a 5 dollar omelette. But Alice's over charges you and adorns the walls with Great Lakes kitsch. Go here on a regular basis. To be honest never had a bad meal here. Not sure why there are 1 star ratings but I guess we can all get a bit grumpy. Anyway the food is great! August 11th 2010... (Trying to get reviews from my trip advisor onto yelp as well) Stopped in on the way from black lake to mackinaw city. Only open 8a to 3p. We were greeted quickly, host was great and had fun at his job. Ordered food and it did take about 20 mins for four breakfasts but I am guessing that there was only about 4 people working in the whole place. It was great food and nice place to go. I had chili and a chef salad. The chili was excellent, thick with lots of meat and beans, with just a hint of seasoning to make it mildly spicy. The salad was good with generous portions of meat and cheeses. Top it off with top notch service that was very attentive. read more

Well seemed like a nice little whole in the wall mom and pops dinner it was nice looking inside the guys seemed nice well mannered the waitress was not and in/ out the bust boy did most the work the food wasn't nasty but it wasn't great everything was cooked correct, not under and not over! This is our place to go for breakfast when in Cheboygan. Food is always prepared as requested. The servers are always friendly and just attentive enough. The only issue I have is the coffee is weak for my taste. They do get very busy and that slows down the service but that happens no matter where you eat out. read more
