As always I have nothing but good things to say about State Street Grill. My sons were Christened today, so we decided to have a small brunch with our family here (about 20 people). Dana is the event coordinator, so all of the details were planned by her. Because we didn't have a huge party, we opted not to do a buffet, but we were able to make a personalized menu by choosing a few items from their brunch menu, that way everyone was able to order a plate for themselves. Dana even personalized the menu with a message on the top "God Bless Michael and Liam". Those small touches made the party feel so personal. Our waitress for the party was very attentive and accommodating. All the food came out at once- fresh and hot. W ith a party of 20 and one waitress, that is very impressive. Made a reservation for their igloos for 2:30pm. We had to stand awkwardly inside for 40 minutes while they "prepped" our table. We were finally seated at 3:10pm. Our waitress was not friendly and seemed as if she was in a fog. Some members of our party wanted to order a vegan burger and they were out of it. When asking the waitress how they could accommodate a vegan diet, her response was "I don't know, look at the menu I guess". The waitress practically spilled half of a martini and our soups were SO oily. It also felt like an eternity for our drinks and food to come out. Some of the food was good, others not so much. Overall, the long wait times, lack of friendly staff, and so-so food gives this place 2 stars. read more

Checked this place out for Valentine's Day brunch with my boys and was pleasantly surprised. To begin our special day, we started with the dough-knots, which were their take on cinnamon sugar covered mini donut bites. I have to say that we weren't impressed with them as they were dense and bread like rather than light and airy like a donut. For the main course, I ordered the day's special, filet mignon eggs benedict, and let me just say Oh My God. It was delicious! The filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the eggs were poached beautifully. My boys ordered the day's waffle special and a ham and cheese omelet, which they were very satisfied with. All in all, we really enjoyed our food and the service was on point. If you have the opportunity to stop in for a meal, I highly recommend it. read more

Couldn't have asked for a better birthday dinner! The atmosphere was so relaxing, our service was friendly and personable and the prices were reasonable. This is where I chose to go for my birthday as a first timer, and I'll definitely be back! I wish we could have had an igloo, but with just 2 of us it was not in the cards. There was a hiccup with our appetizer and it was brought out after the entrees, but it was kindly taken off the bill. Everything was delicious, I love that the specials change daily! Ever eat a shoe disguised as a steak sandwich and pay rediculously for it? If you have a desire to, go here. Went here with my handicapped father, which is not very handicapable access wise. We both ordered the steak sandwich, he got the left shoe, I got the right.. Service was rude and dismissive. We both choked down about a third before it was obviously inedible.We didn't see our waitress after our food was delivered along with our check, waitress said she had a party to work in the back. I ordered one of their specials-grilled steak, baby potatoes & asparagus. I didn't bother asking the price. When I went to eat my steak, all I got were mouthfuls of fat & grizzle. My daughter ordered the steak sandwich, which she took one bite of & pushed it aside. The others we were with all ordered different things, so I can't comment on what they thought. My dinner was $39.95 & I had a drink for $7.50. I should have just ordered drinks for myself, that's how bad the steak was. We'd gone once before for their Brunch & I'd ordered one of their flatbreads & also a drink. Again I should have just ordered drinks. Took 1 bite of the flatbread & it was awful. I think the only good thing about this place was the servers, who were as pleasant as possible. Never again. we went last night for the first time as a party of 4. we waited 15-20 to get our drink orders and almost an hour for food. 3 out of 4 of us the order was wrong. the meat was over cooked, no cheese/bacon added to the burgers. the server was mediocre, but she tired to fix our orders, but the time it was corrected the food was cold. the atmosphere of the venue was loud, couldn't hear the waitress well and we had to speak loudly to converse among our party. we went once and we will NOT be back. poor experience. read more

I really like State Street and have been coming here for years. The drinks and the food are great quality and the patio is awesome! If I had to choose I think the Sunday brunch is my favorite. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because the food just takes too long to be served. This doesn't work out very well when I have my toddler with me. read more

Under normal circumstances, I leave State Street Grill very satisfied. So satisfied, in fact, that I'm normally willing to overlook any issues that take place... normally. This time, the kitchen and service were so far off their respective games, it was almost funny - but not at these prices. After waiting a longer than normal amount of time for our presumably stoned server to clean off a table for us, we started off with that night's sweet potato and bacon dumpling special, which was drizzled with honey. These were really good - as usual. I was asked how I wanted my pork chop ($19) and requested medium. What I received was at least 1/3 bone and was dry and overdone - almost completely desiccated - and required serious effort to cut. It was supposed to be prepared with a "rosemary cranberry pan sauce." It looked and tasted like it was smothered with canned jellied whole cranberry sauce. I suppose there is a chance that the aforementioned stoned server allowed my dish to sit under the heat lamp for an excessive amount of time prior to serving, since it took a really long time to arrive. I've been seated near the food window before and have witnessed dishes sitting there for an excessive length of time, along with kitchen/service verbal conflicts. Regardless, it was terrible. My dining companion ordered that night's risotto special ($32). The nightly risotto specials have always been consistently outstanding, which I have mentioned in prior reviews. This night's special sounded great - lemon risotto with mixed seafood, including lobster, and "tomato jam." What came out was culinarily criminal. The dish looked nice, with the glaring exception of the large lobster claw steamed to oblivion, unsauced and unseasoned, plopped on the edge of the plate. And to be fair, the lemon risotto strictly by itself was very good. So what ruined this dish, aside from including a very expensive ingredient and treating it like garbage? The "tomato jam." This horror appeared to be half Pace picante sauce and half barbecue sauce, and was slathered liberally on top of the entire dish. There were a couple pieces of preserved lemon that did nothing to enhance the dish. The stoned server eventually returned to ask us how our dishes were. I immediately voiced my concerns with both dishes, but was met with what amounted to an unapologetic grunt and shrug. I was starving, so I ate my deck-of-cards-sized piece of pork, roasted sweet potato and mixed asparagus and green beans (it was supposed to be green beans). My dining companion finished about half of his risotto after spooning off as much of the "jam" as possible. What happened next is what really set the tone for this update. The stoned server came to collect our plates, and without asking whether we were ready or wanted anything to take home, picked up the half-finished $32 risotto, then picked up my mostly empty plate and proceeded to pile it on top of the half-finished $32 risotto dish. Did I mention it was $32? I commented on this and the unapologetic grunt and shrug made a second appearance along with some utterance about being "forgetful." The food and service that evening were downright disgraceful. I'm not sure when or if I'll be back. read more

I used to love this place, but their menu, service, and food has gone sharply downhill. They removed all of their vegan menu items (leaving only their really, really terrible sweet potato 'burger' which is mostly a mashed sweet potato on a bun). So, I decided to go for the vegan feature. After waiting 30 minutes for our food, I got 1 cup of spaghetti squash, 3 asparagus spears, 2 pieces of broccolini, and 3 charred pita wedges. Nothing was seasoned, so I had to wait for salt and pepper. The price? $16. read more

Oh State Street...I lived in Clarks Summit for four years, and even though everytime I would go to State Street I would have a hit-or-miss experience, I still kept coming back. I have a love/hate relationship with SSG which is complicated...I'll explain what I love and then what I hate, and you can make your own decision about whether or not to go here. LOVE: - Ambiance is nice. State Street is basically one of three restaurants in Clarks Summit that are nice and have a good bar. So they win just for being close to home. - Cocktails are good. I especially enjoy the blood orange martini for dinner and the bloody mary bar during Sunday brunch. I have had a few of their newer cocktails, with tea infusions and weird things like kale juice...Not a fan. I would just stick with the old cocktail menu. - Flatbreads are always good and they are very reasonably priced. If you get a flatbread for dinner, you can actually walk out of SSG with half of your paycheck in tact. - Brunch is pretty good, as long as you know what you're getting. I especially like the omelettes and the french toast. - The patio in the summer is amazing. There aren't that many places where you can eat outside in Clarks Summit (actually...I think this is the only one), and they put a tent out with lounge chairs in the summer. Make sure you get there early if you want to sit outside! They don't normally take reservations for the outside. I also have a small dog (25 lbs), and they let me sit with him outside for dinner. You have to call ahead and confirm you can bring your dog, but if your dog is nice and not too big they normally let you bring them. HATE: - The food is soooo hit or miss. I've been there and LOVED what I ordered one day, then come back the next week and ordered something different and it was awful (and expensive). A word of advice, never get the specials. They are never as good as they sound, and they are always more expensive than the usual entrees. - Service is seriously lacking in this place. I've never had fast service here, and honestly I don't think I've ever had a pleasant server. Even sitting at the bar, the bartenders aren't that nice either. If you're going here for dinner, expect it to be at least 2 hours (even on a week night). - It is always loud. Always. Good luck trying to have a conversation with someone that isn't sitting right next to you. - It's expensive as heck. For these prices I would much rather eat at AuRant's in Duryea. Anyway, if you're in Clarks Summit, your friends will probably/definitely take you to State Street. Hopefully you order something good! read more

Took a trip out to Mohegan Sun. I am surprised that a lot of people don't know there's a location in PA. Checked out the reviews for State Grill on Yelp and headed on over. The decor is cute, cozy and has a New York feel to it. I ordered the grilled flat bread crab thinking it would be sandwich, but to my surprise it was a darn pizza and wished I had asked for a clarification. I'm so disgusted with the cost of everything and the lack of effort at this place, that after reading the other most recent reviews that were similar to mine, i have to rant some more. never will i be back. never will i recommend that a friend go there. you are the people you serve and i don't consider myself to lack taste or intellect. Not my first visit to St Street Grill but more than likely my last. My boyfriend and I went there for a light dinner. I arrived a little after he and we ordered the scallop and spring roll appetizers and i ordered a mixed drink. The apps came out before my drink, that was about half an hour after i got there - and it was not crowded. Our waitress did not make eye contact or apologize for the wait and we felt like we weren't even there. The food was a huge disappointment - mushy scallops with tasteless aoli sauce - everything that was supposed to be hot was cold and vice verse. The "spring roils" were the most horrendous thing - a hot dog smothered in cheese and deep fried in a puff pastry - gross - where were the veggies and clean fresh taste? We chocked down 2 bites of each thing trying to give it a fair shot but GROSS. Waitress didn't care to ask why the food was not eaten. I hope she can figure out why the tip was $4 but probably not. It was beautiful out and they have fantastic outdoor seating. The vegan options are great. Ordered the vegan raviolis and they were pretty amazing. I was part of a table of six at lunchtime (1 p.m.) on a Monday, and while there were others at the restaurant, it was by no means crowded. Still, it took us about 45 minutes to get our food. And that's after we asked another server (not the one who was waiting on us because she was MIA) if he could check on it for us. I had the lobster angus burger which was disappointing. It was said to be served with gruyere cheese and bernaise sauce, but the cheese had the consistency of plastic and the bernaise sauce consisted of a pool of melted butter--which the bun was sitting on. I don't even know what to make of the lobster; it was cold and chewy and just gross. And the burger itself wasn't medium like I requested, more so medium well and dry. The sweet potato fries were okay, though. The place seems like it has potential, but for now expect mediocre service and food. read more

The one star goes to the THIRD waitress that helped us. We were there Saturday afternoon, it wasn't busy at all. Nobody to help us seat so we just picked a table and sat ourselves. We ordered the food right away, after the third waitress arrived, they kept switching for some reason we don't know. Food got to our table 30 minutes later!!! Fish tacos, how long does it take to fry few pieces of fish. Talk about few, I had 3 pieces in one and 2 little pieces in the other two tacos. My husbands chicken sandwich he said he could get better at subway and my 2 year old chicken nuggets that came as chicken fingers had so much pepper on it I had to peel the coating off so he could eat. C'mom people, it was a simple meal, how could they screw this up so much. I could have done a lot better at home. The place is beautiful, besides the disgusting carpet inside. A friend made a reservation and we went for dinner last night. There were five of us and the reservation was for 6 pm. We waited over 30 minutes for our drink order to be taken and it was after 7 when i hailed the waitress to take our food order and another 15 before she came back. Our food didn't come until well after 8 and the waitress never came to ask if we wanted more drinks. The food was OK although a few of the meals looked like they had been sitting under the heater. If the service was great I would have gone back but the so so food and terrible service are a never return for me. Much better place in the area where you can hear yourself think and have great helpful staff. read more

I have been to the grill many times ... service is always good and the place is nice but the food is another story. Food quality is inconsistent, what you ordered a week ago may not be the same thing you get the next time you order it. But the bigger issue is the kitchen is slow and when I mean slow I mean 1 1/2 hours for 2 sandwiches. Really ... I stopped going for awhile because of this, then go back hoping it was solved and it wasn't. They could be a great place if they could just get the kitchen to step up their game. Is it the size of the kitchen or the people in it, don't know but seriously get it fixed (I watch a party of 6 wait for a table almost the entire time I waited for my food). This place has become a real stinker over the years. What was once a go to spot for consistent food and service has become a real downer that I will never visit again. My last and final visit consisted of waiting until my entire family had finished their meal and I was visibly upset to receive a burger!
