This is hands down the best coffee in Columbus and I've tried it all. Not only is it good quality, but the employees are always so friendly and the atmosphere is warm and homey. I come here every morning and am always greeted like a friend which is exactly what I want from a coffee shop. Parking on the street isn't bad, there's always a spot within walking distance and the handmade drinks and take home beans are all fairly inexpensive for the quality you receive. There's also gluten free and vegan options. I have no complaints, check this place out for sure. read more

I have been a loyal Starbucks goer for sometime now. I decided to try Stauf's bc Starbucks temporarily started closing their stores because of the pandemic. I was reluctant because I am one of those people who can tell when the drink is not made to perfection. The staff is great. The coffee was amazing the first time I tried it. But it hasn't tasted like that since. They just haven't gotten it quite right, and because I grab my coffee on the way to work, I usually don't have time to taste it, then have them remake it if it's wrong. Starbucks has a "well make it right" promise that they are very good at upholding. I was hoping to permanently make the switch to Stauf's because I like the idea of supporting a local business, as well as saving me money, but I'm just not there yet, unfortunately. Right next to The Book Loft, it's a good place to relax and have a good cup of coffee. We went for a Mocha Chill and a Chai Chill along with an Espresso Chocolate Cake. We didn't like the taste of either of the coffees - not to say something was wrong, just that it wasn't the kind of coffee that suited our taste buds. However, the Espresso Chocolate Cake was truly amazing - that explains why we had the last piece. The coffee flavor was perfectly balanced out with the chocolate. Visually too, the cake was super tempting. They have multiple seating options. There are a few tables just outside the cafe on the sidewalk. They have a good indoor capacity. In addition, they have a couple of tables with umbrellas in the patio set up they've created. On a sunny day, open seating is definitely great. In addition, they have another closed peaceful room adjacent to the patio. Besides the brewed coffee, they also sell raw coffee, coffee machines, and mugs etc. Just as you enter you also see some kind of machine (not sure what it is) that gives you a feeling that you're in the coffee world now!!! Week two in our coffee shop adventure: Wow! What a shop! When you first walk in you get slapped with coffee. The atmosphere is so chill and everything in the shop is so cool. I've tried different Stauf's locations but this one is by far the best. The lighting is amazing and I think the place has a small side building where people are more focused. The furniture and the vibe just make a perfect combination of fung shuae. Overall, probably the best coffee shop atmosphere. About the coffee, since our date was pretty late, we both decided to go for the hot chocolate, and even thought hot chocolate is pretty hard to mess up, it's still really good hot chocolate. I don't know if I can say I am new to Columbus anymore after being here for almost 3 years. However, I went to Stuafs when I first moved here and have been hooked. Lately it has been my go to coffee shop even though I don't live close to it. The coffee is great and there are plenty of seats, unless its finals week. It has a great atmosphere and when the weather is right, you can't beat the patio. The people that work there are the sweetest. I love coffee, but I don't necessarily know the lingo. They are always patient and very helpful to make sure I get what I want. Never condescending or make me feel like an idiot. You don't get that at every coffee shop! Great coffee is always nice, but when you combine that with awesome people, thats how you get and keep me as a regular. Thank you Staufs! read more

So this place was totally worth the wait. We waited probably 15 mins in line to order, so it's definitely busier than the local Starbucks and thats saying something! They had such a cool and diverse menu with plenty of noted vegan options which I always appreciate, although I'm not vegan I do tend to try to avoid dairy when possible. I ordered a dairy free pb mocha chiller (frozen blended coffee) It was delicious. It was a caffeinated buckeye which is perfect for being in Columbus on a game day!! My friend ordered a chai tea chiller, I am not a huge fan of chai because I am not a cinnamon person, but I tried it, it was strong tasting, it took quite a bit of my drink to counter the taste of hers. My favorite coffee shop in Columbus! I've been to every location, but you can't quite beat the cute little German village shop. Ive been here quite a few times and have never tried anything I haven't liked, which is a good sign since I tend to be particular about flavor. Their beans are also great for at home brewing. I got a Guatemalan blend from one of the baristas' recommendations and it's the best tasting at-home cup of coffee I've made in a long time! Also, it tends to be busy, but there's more seating down the hall in the back! I've had friends leave before because they thought it was too full to sit. Came here looking for a nice place to get some stuff done after work. I'm glad I found this place! It is absolutely adorable inside and doesn't have that strong coffee aroma that many coffee shops have. There is plenty of inside seating and a few tables outside that I would have sat at but it was a little too sunny. There are a few outlets inside that you can plug your laptop into if you need to get some work done or just want to surf the web. I've been to this location of Stauf's dozens of times now, dating back to my first week of living in the city in mid-2017. In truth, I've probably taken Stauf's for granted, because it has always had a positive reputation as a Columbus institution, and it never occurred to me to write a review. I don't think it's the *best* coffee in the city (here's looking at you, Upper Cup), and some of the servers/baristas can be a little on the too-cool-for-school side of hipsterdom, but what they have to offer is very dependable. Over this holiday season, I'd been craving eggnog lattes. Starbucks started dropping the ball in that department years ago (they make them, but they're not menu items anymore), and I figured I'd give Stauf's a shot. They had a bright sign over the register saying "Try our new eggnog lattes!" which was obviously very promising. I ordered one to go, got in my car, took a sip and...boy was it ever delicious. Honestly, I've loved eggnog lattes for about 20 years, but have never found one quite as good as I used to get when I lived in Canada over ten years ago. But Stauf's might have the best one I've tasted in America. In fact, after getting so much joy out of it on Tuesday, I returned for another on Wednesday. This one was made by a different barista, and it wasn't *quite* as good (it was a bit sweeter), but was still delicious. And on Thursday? I figured "why not?" and I took my girlfriend with me for my third consecutive latte. Given that I'm writing this review on Christmas, there's a good chance that I won't be able to get another for the better part of a year, but if this review tells you nothing else, it's that Stauf's is indeed great at times -- especially when you get one of the better baristas. read more

Trying the location for the first time since Mojo went out. Location is clean but really doesnt have a comfortable "hang out and socialize" vibe. The furniture is very stark and functional, no decorations on the walla, despite it being sub forty outside, the fireplace isn't going. The staff was attentive but not really friendly and for a "coffee roaster", sadly under educated about their products. They had Ethiopia Sidamo as their espresso offering and when i inquired how that tasted as Sidamo would be a little acidic and fruity for such a dark roast, the counter girls just looked at me blankly and told me "any coffee can be an espresso". I think I gave this place short shrift eighteen-months ago, three-staring it for clearing the comfy old Cup O' Joes in favor of the modern slick emptyness of the Stauf's brand. Written as a lament, many of my complaints still exist, but after several more visits the place's better attributes have grown on me. Attribute one: their in-house roasted beans are flavorful; the place smells of coffee richness upon entrance. Cafe mochas here, my favorite latte, are very well made. Attribute two: the staff here is very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. They don't wait on you of course, but they do come out from behind the bar and interact with customers. Attribute three: although the stripped front room still makes me sick, the back room is pretty nice. The seperation from the front bar renders it a quiet work space, a cool conversational knook, and a warm reading lair awashed in natural lighting. Four: the patio is sweet there, a lovely little bay dented between the ancient building and hedge rows. It seems to attract warm sunlight and/or cooling breezes. So here I am adding another star. It doesn't have the cool coziness of the former brand, but it is still a great coffeehouse. read more

When we rolled into the new Stauf's location in German Village, I saw a familiar face from the now-closed Bexley COJ (RIP, my favorite work spot) and I knew everything was gonna be okay. It has a much more modern, clean-industrial feel than the Grandview location. Lots of seating, but I did notice a couple of people almost left before we told them there were more tables in the back--a sign might be helpful for people, since you can't see into the back area from the main space. Standard Stauf's/COJ menu. If you want the basics (coffee, espresso, iced tea, etc), they're a fantastic option. Retail area with great specialty coffee/tea equipment, and also beans and tea--smaller than the retail area at the Grandview Stauf's but still with a lot of options. Added bonus: since my husband put in our order, I didn't see the woman who worked at the Bexley COJ right away . . . but she knew it was for me and brought my iced tea out to my table. (We kind of always got the same order when we went together--iced tea and coffee.) So friendly and considerate! Also, they have an adorable patio. They have over 25 different coffees from all over the world which I understand they roast in house. If you are into specialty coffees this is a great place. If I lived in Columbus I would frequent this coffee shop. It was all about the vibes for me. From the lush plants inside and the cozy courtyard outside to the open concept bakery with fresh croissants being prepared to the skylights offering ample natural light in every nook and cranny of the shop. Note: that there's a big room in the back down the hallway. I also love that Stauf's is located in my favorite Columbus neighborhood: German Village. The cappuccino I ordered was fairly average but the bacon cheddar scone was exceptional. Wifi worked well and it wasn't too hard to find outlets for those working remotely or having meetings. I can only imagine the energy in this place during the warmer months when the courtyard is filled with conversation and the smell of coffee in the air. This was my first time stopping in to Stauf's since it used to be Cup of Joe. Maybe I was still grieving the choice, I'm not sure. Either way, I was to meet up with a friend for a few hours of co-working and brainstorming. Parking is always a hard choice, be sure to watch the parking limit signs on the surrounding streets. Upon entering, I ordered a Buckeye (cause who doesn't love peanut butter, chocolate, and coffee) and a gingerbread and white chocolate chip muffin. I got settled with a friend in the back working area and got to work for a while. There was plenty of seating and it was a quiet area. The only thing I could have been improved is that there is only a limited number of plugs for charging a laptop work. We were enjoying our afternoon coffee at this spot next to one of the best bookstores anywhere - until 30 minutes before closing we were pushed out of their large backroom. Apparently the room needs to be completely empty for staff to sweep it. With the smaller front room filled (with all the people pushed out from the back) we had an unfortunate choice - sit outside in the 28 deg temps or sit in our car. Stairs is always a top choice for coffee no matter what location I'm in In Columbus. The location is German village is great. There's a ton of space to work inside and outside. I always just get a large cup of dark roast coffee and the coffee is always great. There's a large selection of coffee and stuff to buy. This location is right beside the book store. They provide many different flavors and types of coffee roasts, so getting exactly what you want is easy here. They offer multiple pastries each day, both sweet and savory ones (um, their blueberry muffin is heaven). This morning, I got the lavender latte and wasn't disappointed. Not only were they extremely friendly, but my coffee came up fast and with beautiful latte art - which obviously makes it 10x better (and more instagrammable!). Probably one of the most rudest staff I have ever met. I went to pull down my mask because the person that was taking my order could not hear me, and then the barista behind her yelled "you can pull up your mask or get out." It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences. Loved their coffee, but won't be coming back due to the way they treat paying customers. Very unfortunate because I have seen them be rude to customers every time I've been in. It's a real shame. Someone needs to train their staff to be more respectful. read more

Loved it. My friend who lives in Columbus brought me here. I got a soy latte, extra shot and a bit of their pumpkin syrup. Perfect. The girl at the counter helped me order to my liking. Also got a bacon and cheddar scone, the bacon and cheddar were so crispy! Outside, I call it a small oasis, no sound travels from the streets onto that quaint patio. I was sooo excited to try this. This was on my list of coffee shops to try in CBUS but all I get is extreme disappointment and a nasty aftertaste. First of all, I ordered in person during COVID and service was great. My complaint has to do with the product only. I got a medium hot latte and it was sooo nasty. If I wanted burnt coffee (which I don't), I would have gone to Starbucks across the street. And I get that a latte has foam milk on the top but my drink came two inches below the lid. One inch below the lid, I get. But, two inches?? Why am I paying for a medium then?! The only good thing about getting less of a drink was that I had less nasty bitter coffee to drink.
