I was down in Cbus meeting up with some people and one of them is a student at the state university and said we should try this amazing coffee roaster place. So we went, I ordered a mocha with skim milk. They got a pour over. I had my mocha and I tried the pour-over and I didn't taste anything out of the incredibly ordinary. It is Starbucks price so it is better I feel to support a smaller chain or independent brewer but it wasn't anything I would call out of the state of Ohio good *out of this planet aka pun* It is very very busy and the guy who took me here said it is nonstop so that is good. I personally have found better coffee places in Cleveland but Cbus is trying and that is good on itself. The parking situation is like the rest of Cbus, street if you can and a lot of one-ways and bad parkers. All-in-all, a good cup of joe but I am not going to call me mother and tell her about my cup of coffee good. read more

Cute little coffee shop next to the Book Loft in German Village ...ordered Pumpkin Spike Chai which was absolutely fabulous, pretty much tasted like liquid pumpkin pie!! Also ordered the dark roasted coffee , carried the drinks over to the Book Loft to browse through their millions of books(32 rooms of books)...we spilled are dark roast in the the Book Loft walked back over to Stauf's and they gave us a new coffee... great customer service that will have me going back and show loyalty to this cute little coffee shop .. thanks so much for the great drinks and awesome service .... read more

I'm not a fan of the Grandview Stauf's. No, no -- I'm not trying to throw shade. It's just not my scene. I can't ever find a seat, and the folks working aren't always very nice. They tend to subscribe to the snarky customer service that rubs me the wrong way. But I love the German Village Stauf's. Take everything you think you know about Stauf's and throw it out the window. The Cup O' Joe folks are slimming down the COJ brand and beefing up the Stauf's brand. I was confused about this initially, but after visiting their transformed German Village store, I definitely get it. The front room is a bit small, used for roasting coffee and a smattering of seats. This space is kinda cold and concrete. It's still pretty, and there's potential -- just needs some warming up. In the back is the coffee and pastry counter, and this is where the first major surprise was for me. I've been several times already, and everybody is SO NICE. Not like saccharine, but genuinely helpful. If this is the new direction for Stauf's, I say BRING IT ON. The drinks are the same delicious offerings of the original Stauf's, but with such sweet service -- everything tastes better. They also have a huge bakery at this location, so they're going to be doing a ton of their own baking. Since I have this wheat thing, I won't be eating anything, but I've heard from Brad S that they make the best blueberry muffins in the city! And then in the old MoJoe Lounge is a big, open space that's perfect for working, relaxing, or chatting with a friend. I love the warm wood, leather, and the fireplace. Also, there are POWER OUTLETS UNDER EVERY SEAT AT THE BAR. I can't even... The new Stauf's isn't perfect, but I genuinely enjoy every visit more than the last. Maybe make drinks that are on the same order together, instead of making one, with whip that will melt, then making five other customers' orders, then making the second drink from the first order. If Stauf's has any more than one person at the counter, you're going to have a bad time. The layout is bad too. This review is strictly about the coffee. I'm going to be a terrible naysayer, but I am not a fan of Stauf's. I do, however, appreciate the German Village location as a great place to get a drink and relax. Their coffee tastes either under-roasted or burnt, and I've not had a cup that has tasted good - it always seems watery. Iced coffee tastes hot-brewed rather than cold (as claimed) and also has a watery presentation. I'd rather go with tea here. There are two interior areas for seating as well as an enclosed garden patio, which is lovely. A couple tables along the sidewalk are perfect for people watching. Excellent coffee shop in the German Village, one of the most atmospheric places to visit in Columbus. A short 30 minute walk from Downtown and situated next door to one of the world's FINEST book shops, The Book Loft. This book shop has 32 rooms of discounted books and is always top of my list to visit. Staufs grinds its own coffee beans on a regular basis and staff have a deep interest and passion for coffee. This place might even rival Papercup in Glasgow but, on reflection and being biased, probably not!! It has wifi that is easy to access and the place is, every time I have visited, busy with people socialising with friends or solos on their laptops. The breakfasts are awesome and prepared and presented with care. This is a place to hang out for hours, with papers and books to read. Seems crazy to travel 3500 miles to sit in a coffee shop before and after spending ages in a book shop but, you know what? I'll probably do it again next year. read more

We we're visiting from out of town for the weekend and wanted to find a good local coffee shop before we hit the road home. Read the great review on yelp for the dairy free PB chiller, however we were told when we visited the frozen coffee drinks can only be made with whole milk. Ordered an iced mocha with almond milk and it tasted like a plain coffee with milk. No flavor at all, especially no mocha present. The iced pumpkin with almond milk was just ok, nothing to brag about. Customer service wasn't great either. Very disappointed. read more

Stauf's in German Village sets the tone early. The first thing you see when you walk in the door is a pile of bulging sacks of coffee beans next to an industrial roasting machine. They want you to know they're hardcore in the coffee game. Like K-cups probably make them sick. Don't let that scare you off. That's just how they weed out the pretenders. My love for Stauf's GV can be broken down into two distinct categories. First of all, they have a rotating dark roast. This seems unremarkable, I know. But if you're a fan of a good dark roast and you live in Columbus, you learn quick that most of the city's coffee shops straight up don't carry it. You get real used to things like, "well this MEDIUM roast was harvested at midnight during a waning gibbous phase and the carriers only played Lana Del Ray while importing it here so that would probably be the darkest coffee we have." They'll try to sell you on its darkness, bless their hearts. But it's not the same. Stauf's always has the real thing. The second reason I love SGV is the seating situation. The front room is the size of your average coffee shop. Two-person tables. A lil bench. Standard stuff. But if you go all the way back, past the counter, and bang a right, you're transported into a trendy ski lodge of a room. There's booth seating. There are tables. There's a bar counter. There are arm chairs FACING A FIRE PLACE. It's legit. Did you think the seating options ended there? You were dead wrong. They have a bier garten-type situation right outside with even more tables and chair. Honorable mention: The composition of the Morningstar Muffin is what all muffins should aspire to. Crispy on the dome, soft underneath and textured with oats and fruit and such. Go patronize The Book Loft next door. Feel good about yourself for supporting a local business. Take your new book over to Stauf's and go to town on it. There, you'll find happiness. read more

With its front room, back room, and patio, this Stauf's location is like three coffeehouses in one. Each section has its own personality, and the back room is by far the quietest café area in Columbus to work. (I'm writing this while I'm sitting somewhere else that shall remain nameless, where they're playing show tunes... and as much as I love belting out Les Mis in the shower like everyone else, it's a little distracting when you're trying to edit neostructuralist Marxist theory. I think I can manage a Yelp review while Sebastian croons to me to kiss the girl, though. [Total tangent, but my sister-in-law dressed my then-four-month-old nephew Sebastian as a crab for his first Halloween last year. It was precious.]) The front room is where you sit if you go to Stauf's in order to smell like coffee when you leave (I'm not joking--I've always loved it about the original location). And I haven't had the pleasure of spending time on the patio yet, but whenever I leave, I think, "Doggonit, the temperature's nice now, I should've moved outside" (obviously I've mostly been there in the nice months). It's pretty, shaded, enclosed, and has plants, and I presume the wifi reaches out there. The food options are obviously not as vast as they are at the Grandview location, where they have an entire kitchen, but they do have your standard bagels and pastries. If they could truck a little hummus over for the bagels, I'd be content. The tea section is also a fraction of the size they have over there, but it still operates on the bag-your-own system, which I've always enjoyed. A Stauf's barista gave me a tip once, suggesting that I try experimenting with combining scoops of different teas, and gave me her favorite (it was a combo of some smoked black tea and a flowery herbal one, but I don't remember exactly what). Try that with prebagged tea and you'll end up with a dusty mess and a couple of funny looks. Although I love the atmosphere of the back room, there is a seating comfort/outlet tradeoff. The outlets are in the back corners by the bench seating, which is remarkably uncomfortable (though you can also sit on regular chairs at the same tables) and at the communal counters, with the tall kind of bar seats that are hard to sit in for long periods. read more

I didn't really frequent the old Cup o' Joe /MoJoe that was here before, so I'm not biased or jaded that it's gone. I like the Stauf's. The coffee options are unique to the area - it's the only shop I've found in town that does Aeropress (hot water forced through grounds with this pump thingy), which I thought was great. They also have pour-over and regular drip coffee. All are great. What I like about the Aeropress and pour -over is that it comes with the opportunity to pick your beans, which are then ground to order. It's fun to get a bean recommendation from the barista. I've had the scones and, just this morning the blueberry muffin. It might be the best blueberry muffin in town - huge, moist, phenomenal muffin top (ha!), and packed with flavor. Worth every penny, and it wasn't even that expensive. I haven't had the chance to chill out in the backroom yet, but it looks quiet and inviting. Can't wait to stop back. Now, if they'd only start accepting payments on my phone like that place across the street does.... read more

Chai Latte was lukewarm and not very flavorful. Milky Way espresso was good, but also lukewarm. Both were inexpensive. The wait was reasonable about 15 minutes, but they were very busy. I did wish the baristas would tie their hair back better. One didn't even have her hair pulled back. It fell forward over and below her shoulders and I watched her brush it aside twice. read more

Shhhh, keep this one a secret! Unlike the Grandview branch, this one is a bit more hidden and isn't quite as popular yet, and I hope it stays that way! If you get there early enough, the back seating area is nearly empty, so you can enjoy your coffee and morning magazine in peace. Their coffee is decent though I sometimes feel like their lattes are a bit bitter. Their citrus salad is fantastic, as well as their banana nut muffin. Baristas are extremely friendly and very helpful. Parking may be a bit of a headache given they don't have a lot, but I was told the 2 hour limit on the street isn't strictly enforced, and I haven't experienced any problems despite having parked for more than 2 hours. read more

I enjoy going to both the Grandview and German Village locations of Stauf's. The vibes are a little different in my opinion. Grandview is more busy and open concept, and on the weekends has tons of families with young kids. The German Village location has a front and back space, and it seems that most people in the back space are doing work, while most meetings occur in the front, which is a nice differentiation. I don't drink coffee so I can't really comment there, but tea drinkers should go to the Grandview location. There are so many teas to choose from, and it is nice to fill your own tea bag! They are both happy to refill your mug with more hot water, too. In addition, the omelets at the Grandview location are pretty delicious. It would be awesome if the German Village Stauf's had a real kitchen, but I think they only have pastries and such. read more

No one likes the morning cup to be a bad surprise so I appreciate the certainty of getting a damn near exquisite cup, but WHAT THE EFF IS UP WTH THE INTERNET!? Generally, I am a dark roast person, but their bean selection is so good that on occasion I will even try a light roast and it will not disappoint, but WHAT THE EFF IS UP WITH THE INTERNET!? My favorite is the Java Estate I think, but I also love the Ethiopian and Yemen Harrar, Baba Boudon, and Costa Rica. All of them complex and different, its nice to see so much diversity in a coffee cup, and have ALL of it be good, but WHAT THE EFF IS UP WITH THE INTERNET!? Love the back room, great ambience and so sunny; its an excellent space for some peace of mind to think things through over a cup of coffee, or focus on a school or work project except for when the internet goes down, oh that remind me, WHAT THE EFF IS UP WITH THE INTERNET!? The patio is clutch. So spacious, great for catching up with friends, reading that novella you picked up from the BookLoft next door, or enjoying a sunny day that seem to be getting rarer in Columbus. This place is adorable, unpretentious and tasty. It feels right at home in historic German Village, and the outdoor garden is peaceful. I even brought home some of the cookies, and they were a big hit. I do wish there was a bit more seating, but I understand the confines of the space -- it's actually quite roomy, just very popular! I visited in the afternoon, and there were lots of people working on their computers. I felt a tad bit uncomfortable holding conversation when everyone was so quiet. Very cool space! They had a great herbal iced tea. I got the cold brew coffee, which was good. Not the best I've ever had, but also not terrible. It is a Guatemalan coffee, one of the most popular beans. It was smooth and acidic. If you don't need caffeine, definitely try to the blood orange herbal iced tea! This is my favorite coffee house in Columbus. It's within walking distance from Schiller park. There is a small patio which fills up during the summer. I gave this place a chance one Sunday morning. I've heard many things about the poor internet connection, and when I went to visit, not only was that true, but the room in the back felt awkwardly quiet...and so I left, never to return... Somehow I stumbled back in. Here is what I've learned: Assorted array of baked goods, both savory and sweet. I had the pecan "roll" which was delicious, moist, and full of buttery goodness. Cappuccino was decent--not the best I've had, but not yucky. The room in the back was a little more welcoming than before, with its roaring fireplace and perhaps some music in the background. It's still a bit too quiet back there to have a proper conversation without feeling like the entire room is hearing about your recent date, but it's getting there. I think the space out front by the door it a lot more coffee shoppy--loud conversations and tables and just a place where you feel like you can disappear in your book/work without being the center of attention every time you sneeze. Parking is only 2hrs max, even on sundays, and I don't think I spotted a parking lot anywhere... read more

Excellent coffee. I mean, I've only been once and I just had a cup of the light roast - but it was delicious! Perfect for sipping while wandering thru the winding rooms next door at the Book Loft. The atmosphere was... frenetic? Noisy. It was a Saturday morning so the place was crazy busy. I wouldn't want to sit down and stay. The service was fine. Coffee is good here but staff was rude. When I asked for help because a patron had parked their 100lb dog in the middle of the walkway between the courtyard and the bldg while they sat inside for breakfast I was treated very disrespectfully. I was sad to see my 2nd favorite coffee shop be remodeled but now this one has just improved upon themsleves. I love the back room for its work/study feel. I dont if this place will be as social as I felt like it was but the back room is great. The place has a more modern/ clean feel to it. They still have the Buckeye and good black coffee so the move did not hurt this place. I may make a few more trips here for lesson planning and sstudy sessions. I miss the couches here but I think I can live. Great work Staufs in keeping a certain atmosphere to your places. I would agree in the fact they need a sign on the outside as I paused to make sure they were open. I like the coffee roaster near the front. read more

I don't know what's been going on here lately, but the service has really declined. Now, I'm not one of those jerks who expects servers to smile, put on an act, or flatter me. I don't even need them to be particularly cheerful; I understand that they're at work, and I'm not going to fault somebody for not getting up and singing "Oh, what a beautiful morning" when I walk in. That being said, the last several times I've gone in here the baristas have all but rolled their eyes at me when I open my mouth. I've stood at the counter waiting because two of them are just talking to each other, for a minute or more on end. Now, I could even live with that...if they got my order right. An Italian soda is not a difficult thing, but the last three times they've either used the wrong syrup, put too much in, or conversely, too little. read more
