So... I have no complaints about this place and I would love to come back... It all started with a late night phone call and I was greeted pleasantly by Kim. I was calling to inquire about a tongue web piercing and after getting turned down once at one of my favorite places and cancelled on at another one of my other favorite parlors, I was hesitant to call and get another rejection. My fears were put to ease when asking about this peculiar piercing and she said the piercer would happily do it for me with no problem. So I inquired about the price and set up an appointment for first thing in the afternoon as soon as they opened the next day. I arrived the next day and was greeted in person by Kim and we instantly began talking like we were friends for a while about piercings we had and weird shady places we went, when underground piercing without objection and NOT asking for ID for underage teens was a thing (somewhere in some shady parlor, it probably still is...) anyhow, I patiently waited for the piercer to arrive and about 15 minutes he arrives covered in tattoos and piercings and I knew this was the guy for me (I forgot his name that quick though... sorry) so he greets me and he goes to get his gloves on to retrieve his tools to get this show on the road and I'm super excited and nervous! At first he was informed that I was there for a belly ring and I was like oh no.. And once we cleared that up, he got his needles and rings and he changed his gloves several times throughout and opened everything fresh and he showed me the needle and the ring and explained that it would be slightly larger for swelling and we continued on. So once he finished setting everything up right in front of me, he asked me to open wide and lift my tongue and Kim came inside to check up on us a few times and make sure I was okay with everything and with the music (I listen to anything... I'm open-minded always) and he had his needle, his cork, and the earring and I started getting a little nervous even though I have 11+ tattoos and 6 piercings, I'm always like damn, this is like the first time!! So as he gets close to me to pierce my webbing under my tongue, I'm thinking in my mind (OMFG.. I AM REALLY NUTS HUH) and with a the slightest pinch, he is done... I was shocked, it was so little pain so fast, it was surprising... My ear peircings hurt way more. On a scale of 1 to 10, it had to be a strong 1. A little pinch and done. But... the more painful part was the actual placing of the ball on the end of the earring. That was like a 4.. it brought a little tear to my eye because he had to make sure the ball was screwed on and he needed to get a clamp for this to grasp the ring and it got a little tricky with me now salivating... So I spit and he continued and we were done. Afterward, I asked if he could change my tragus earring as well, on a slightly fresh piercing and he also did that with no hesitation.. that pain was about a 3 with unscrewing and placement. Overall, I left extra happy and excited for my new piercing.. feeling great and confident that I chose this place. Usually, I go to a place that someone may recommend but I don't know anyone who has had a tongue web piercing done and I wanted to do this for a while. I'm glad I made the decision to go here. I was also glad I could pay and tip with my card and I gladly did and I will definitely be back for perhaps a tattoo and I'm also thinking about get a few tattoos covered up and getting a few removed.. but I will recommend this place. I am a stickler for customer service and they definitely went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable and all my uncertainty was put to rest. I received some news about my health (diabetes complications) so I decided I wanted to get one more tattoo, before getting a tattoo was no longer an option. I started my search & found Stay on Point Tattoo. After using Yelp & Google, I found Stay on Point's instagram page. Being impressed with what I saw I called to set up a consultation. I called on a Saturday & my consultation was scheduled on Sunday. Consultation: On Sunday I arrived at the shop & was immediately greeted by Dboi, he introduced hisself and I showed him a picture of what I wanted and explained my diabetic status. Dboi asked important questions about my health before discussing the tattoo it self, which put me at ease because it showed he cared about my health and the possible healing effects. Now on to the tattoo, upon viewing the tattoo we discussed size, color, location, tattoo detailing, & of course price. Dboi charges $150 per hour which is a reasonable price. He told up front with the size & details of the tattoo it would cost me close to $450 because it would take about 3 hours to complete. I explained my budget was for $300 & we discussed ways to lower the cost to fit my budget. We kept the tattoo at the same size but removed some of the detailing. We worked together to come up with some we would both be satisfied with. An appointment dated for the following Friday (4/7) was set and a deposit of $50 was done. On Wednesday before the tattoo appointment I received an email from Dboi with a sketch of my tattoo for my approval (this was a first for me), I have impressed with both Dboi's professionalism & the sketch of the tattoo. I immediately loved what I saw and responded back adding one little detail. Dboi emailed me back and ensured me the detail I wanted added would be on the stencil by the time I arrived. Tattoo Day: I arrived 15 minutes early and Dboi and his staff immediately greeted. Dboi had just finished a tattoo and was cleaning up and setting up for my session. While waiting I was asked to filled out a tattoo consent form. At exactly 7pm which was my appointment time Dboi called over and we begin placement of the tattoo. We beginning the tattoo and Dboi asked me a few times if I needed to take a break or if I was okay. We were both impressed with each. Dboi was impressed with my pain tolerance and how I seat their carrying on a convo like I wasn't getting a tattoo & I was impressed with his professionalism and his work. Dboi pays attention to details. 2 1/2 hours later I was done and completely satisfied with my tattoo. Dboi also recommended a after tattoo cream called Hustle Butter. It's an all natural product and smell so good. Overall I was completely satisfied with the entire process from beginning to end. I will definitely be sending my friends and family to Dboi at Stay on Point Tattoo. This tattoo was my last hoorah so it was a little emotional for me but should my slim chance I can squeeze in another tattoo. Kai helped me pick out a circular barbell that flattered my face and would be easy to care for while I continued to heal. That night, I turned up the new jewelry because I had a job interview the following day. But the ends of the piece were a little too close together and it was squeezing my nose. I messaged Kai on IG and she opened her shop EARLY so she could fix it for me before I went to the interview. She was so kind and accommodating, it was some of the best customer service I've had anywhere. Where do I begin? This place is amazing, from the customer service, to the artist, to the shop, the team, the music and the vibes. The dynamic that the place had was incredible and how it should be. I got my free consultation done on Friday 01/25/19, I was assigned to an artist named Ana. We spoke during the week, she came out with few sketches and then we decided on the final draft together. I got my tattoo done a week later on Friday 02/01/19, the team was very supportive being the fact that I was getting my tattoo done on my right ribs (ouch I know). I was given a soft drink, a choice of music genre and a good laugh. Ana started and she did the outline, shading and coloring. She gave me breaks in between, her and the team was asking if I was okay and I took like it like a champ. Once, I was done they told me to relax and gave me some water. I paid and was set to come back for a touch up once my tattoo heals. All in all I am happy with my tattoo, I procrastinated on getting it for a long time being the fact it was dedicated to my parents. I didn't know what I wanted and I was avoiding the pain. Now, I finally got it done and I am proud of myself that I was able to endure the pain without a flinch or a sound. Visited here recently for my very first tattoo. Deanna was super chill and patient with me and made me feel super comfortable. The piece I got was very small and took no time at all, but she still alleviated all of the nerves of getting a tattoo. She thoughtfully and thoroughly explained proper aftercare, and I purchased the small packet of "Hustle Butter" for $5 that they recommend you use while the tattoo heals. I have never written a negative review for a small business before, and I wish I didn't have to, but this has been on my mind for close to a year, so I need to be honest about the experience I had at this tattoo shop. I had recently moved to New York when I came here for a tattoo. It was a walk-in, and I asked the folks at the studio if they could do two very small tattoos- one of pill bugs and the other of the word "worthy." Each measured less than an inch long and about 1/4 inch tall. They said no problem. For both of these very small tattoos, which took less than 15 minutes in total to do, they charged me $160, which I paid, not knowing that this was a complete rip-off. I didn't understand why I was being charged so much, and the owner said something about it being because I got two tattoos- which again, makes no sense since the tattoos took, in total, less than 15 minutes to complete. After getting additional tattoos in New York, and describing this experience to other artists, they have affirmed that I was completely ripped off- also given the quality of the tattoo, which bled quite a bit and was not done properly with a small enough needle for what I wanted. This is another issue- if the studio didn't have the capacity to do what I was requesting, they should have said "sorry, we can't do what you want" rather than letting me get the tattoo, badly, and then criminally overcharging me. Do not go to this studio. You will over pay, and the owner, Danny, is completely unreasonable (see his responses to other people who have complained about being overcharged, like Dee D. from August, 2019). He called me after I emailed the studio to express what I have here, and even tried to make it sound like them doing touch-up for me for free was out of the ordinary- I have been to so many tattoo studios and this is a simple common courtesy that most everyone does since you just spend hundreds of dollars getting a piece of art on your body and the artist also has a vested interest in making sure it is what you want and feel good about. He also tried to gaslight me into believing that what other tattoo artists were "filling my head with" (direct quote) was wrong. Long story short: if this studio continues to operate the way it is, it won't be around for long. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews, especially for tattoo shops there's already a stigma surrounding the industry- still even in 2017. But when it comes to someone's health, and safety I kinda feel compelled to do so. I came in last week for a labret piercing, I bought my own jewelry due to the fact that low quality body jewelry is still being sold, and used in fresh piercings (any real professional would know that this isn't good, and 316 Stainless steel is a combination of mystery metals. Along with external threading- this kind of threading is no good for any piercing due to the fact that it can drag bacteria, irritate, and tear the fistula.) I'm not an APP certified piercer, but I know sketch when I see it. Aside from the shop being clean, Alan isn't so kosher. 1. There was no autoclave for the jewelry to be properly sterilized in, it looked like he just splashed rubbing alcohol on the jewelry. 2. He assured me that the length of the post was, ok. 3. He seemed to be on some kind of THC high. My jewelry was kinda too short for the piercing, so he had to replace it with his own jewelry (cringe) I appreciate that he did this service for free, and he didn't get annoyed with me. Fast forward to Saturday. I came in for a medusa piercing, and the vibe seemed very different I already knew why, but I decided to just keep my mouth shut. The owner of the shop was present. Suddenly Alan was bright and bushy tailed. Alan also set his tools up on a tray, with his forceps in a sealed sterile pouch. Unlike the first time, he walked me through the process while his boss was present. Dboi's expression was very... suspicious? When making these decisions please listen closely to when people speak to you. If a piercer or tattoo artist tells you; I've been piercing for 10 years at all these shops, but then I worked for a week at one shop. If he charges you more money when his superiors are around, doesn't wash his hands. If the first inkling you get is that they've been fired then you're probably correct. This evening I was coming home from Manhattan, and the top of the post unscrewed. I called Alan to ask what I could do if I lost the piercing, (yes I understand if you're in a different place at a certain time, and can't do anything about it you just can't.) There was no offer of doing it for a discounted price, nor any kind of constructive advice. Alan is nice, but please do yourself a favor, and get APP certified. read more

Liked the set up & look of the shop outside. Decided to go in... spoke to the owner Dboy about a next tattoo for me and my fiancé. He recommended a artist who was set to appear and tattoo from Texas handle the work for me. I left a small deposit and had him set everything up. About a week later everything worked out as expected and both me and my fiancé received Tattoo's we were very happy with. On the other hand a big issue I had was after the charge came through on my card it was Tripple the price. Dboy over charged me 3x.. for a $600 tattoo I paid $1,800. This tattoo only took 1& 1/2 hours to complete. I never checked the charges or received a receipt and was only able to find out when I checked my email from chase that I was over charged. Later then next day my fiancé told me that after I left and she stayed and got her tattoo Dboy who looks like a wana be gangster who was scared straight attempted to get her to go home with him for a large portion on the time she spent getting tattooed. I found this to be unprofessional and between that and overcharging me this resulting in me and my fiancé having an unsatisfactory experience. In the end we did like our work but not the experience. We will be getting tatted at body Language Tattoo from now on which is also in Astoria. read more

I met D-Boi during a guest artist appearance at another location in Harlem. I am so glad that he was assigned as my artist. He enhanced work done on my first tattoo. Got my third tattoo done here as well as two lobe piercings, while a friend got a tattoo and also lobe piercings. The staff was seriously amazing!!! Like nicest people ever, I was really at ease. Incredibly welcoming and made me feel super comfortable off the bat, shout out to Kim working the front! They answered all my questions, as I was getting a finger tattoo, and were very friendly. The shop itself is nice and very clean, and the prices were super fair, and they even touched up a tiny older tattoo of mine. My actual tattoo came out great - very clean considering the placement and small size, as well as my friend's who had a larger daintier piece, and the piercings look great as well. I had never heard of this place in all of my life living in Astoria. I was looking for a piercer...called 6 tattoo shops and found none. I finally called this place and was told to come in for a piercing, with very reasonable prices. I had gotten pierced in my nostril prior to this and the hole closed. My piercers name was Alan and I was terrified of needles and This piercing due to the traumatic piercer I had 3 years ago. I was here to get a piercing, fixed by Kai my eyebrow piercing and I ended up getting on it a keloid on my left eyebrow and I had to get it removed once it ended up healing and done again by someone else. This place started off being nice and I was happy with my bridge piercing and my septum one that Kai fixed. But then I had to change my lip ring on the left side and I ended up having a bigger ring in it and I couldn't go to my dentist because of that and the fact that Kai didn't change it until she saw fit and was ready to and we kept on coming back for things to be changed and she never wanted to change the ring on my right eyebrow and she never changed it for me to another one and she kept trying to make me get a barbell and not a ring as I wanted. We also gave her money to order a new bridge piercing and she never did send me the email with the pictures of the piercing, she got and I wanted to go back and I just am very upset of least my mom got my money back from her and ann for stuff they never did for me and promised to do. Don't go to this place if you want to get lied to just don't. I'm still dealing with the hurt from this and from trusting someone and thinking that they liked me. read more

I have to echo those who have spoken already: I don't usually leave bad reviews, don't like to hurt small businesses, and generally don't like to complain about folks who are friendly and accommodating even if they do a bad job. However, my experience at StayOnPoint was downright dangerous (compared to the service I received from another nearby shop, Tattoo Alley!!) and so I have to do the right thing and warn people about my experience. The full-time piercer there either a) did not know what he was doing, or b) in trying to make me happy, did things that caused pain and weren't safe. To start, the shop did not have a full selection of piercings whatsoever (I only wanted two simple hoop nose rings of roughly the same diameter and gauge) and instead of admitting he didn't have what I was looking for, offered solutions that just didn't make sense. Like letting me go with two differently-sized mismatched hoop EARRINGS (I found out later they were definitely not designed for the nose and were in fact the wrong gauge--they could have really harmed me as I healed), even one with a ball post, to shove into my nose. Now, I admit: when I described what I wanted, I was willing to settle for simple placeholders (my current holes were starting to close up so I was anxious to get something in there, even if I swapped them out later) however, if that's what these were supposed to be, they were nowhere near easily-swappable. He literally took huge metal TOOLS to squeeze them shut, meaning I certainly couldn't change them without another servicing from him, go figure. So beyond using rings that were the wrong size, the wrong thickness (and one of them was so tight to my skin the piercing would have healed around the hole) -- he completely ignored the fact that I had two long-standing existing holes that simply needed a little tapering and coaxing to open. Instead he jammed the first one in super fast without checking how closed it was (causing me to bleed) and in the second, had so much trouble getting the taper/ring through my slanted hole, even though I offered to guide the ring through myself (by this time I had tears streaming down my face), I think he got nervous, and possibly frustrated, to the point he decided to pierce me again without asking my permission. He just did it and that wasn't what I went in there for, at all. I left this shop still in pain and so immediately googled another nearby shop. The piercer there who fixed me was APPALLED at how forcefully the piercer at StayOnPoint installed these rings into my nose and in comparison, I literally did not even feel it when the new piercer swapped out the bad ones out and put in nice, dainty, properly sized nose rings. He explained to me exactly what the other piercer did wrong, and why he was doing it correctly. No doubt, I've written a review of that shop, too, and can only say its praises are only in direct proportion to how much StayOnPoint was NOT on point that day. One positive thing: the guy seemed to have instinctively known that what he was doing was off, because he charged me VERY little (like, at least one piercing free) for the service, and even offered a discount if I came back. Ha. Finally, though this next part does not relate to my personal experience, it still bugged me: when I arrived at StayOnPoint there were 3 girls ahead of me (who happened to be African American, which I know doesn't matter unless this guy was being blatantly racist, which I'm sure he wasn't, but still. I'm white and cute and probably his type....) and instead of helping them first, he waited on me, assuring them he wouldn't be long. That would have been fine if I had just been purchasing jewelry, but I also needed them put in, and then when it appeared that he didn't have what I was looking for, there was a whole lot of talking/discussion, trying to put them in, painful re-piercing, etc. I feel like an experienced piercer would have known that it's never just a "quick thing". Basically, if I were one of those girls, I would haven been really ticked, and I felt it was a pretty weird customer service decision. But as described above, this of course was the least of it. Suffice to say, I can't recommend this place as a piercing establishment. The art and tattoos, however, did look great! read more

I got my sleeve done here. As well as an in ear tat and 4 others. I always get compliments on them and the detail put in to each one. I told D what I wanted and found the best ways to tweak it and make it unique. He makes you feel comfortable in his shop like you've known him forever. For the size of my tat he would ask me if I wanted to take a break and I would say no, and asked him if he needed a break then we could stop for a few. Lol.
