I haven't been in here for a few years. It used to be, when I was doing a home project, I would need some tool or a fastener, and a person would meet me at the aisle and help. Perhaps I needed a certain screw or paint. They would stay until I was done and had what I needed. I always had the impression that the people working there were retired contractor or carpenters picking up extra cash. Tonight I was in a hurry and the cashier told me which aisle to go to. I met a guy there, showed him what I was looking for, except in a somewhat different size. He barely glanced at my item, waved vaguely toward a cabinet and walked away. I managed with a lot of effort to find what I needed. When I got home it was not the right fastener, no surprise. If only this person had spent 5 minutes with me, I'm sure we would have found it, assuming he knew what he was doing. Next time I will go to Home Depot! read more

I went in Stayton Ace Hardware to purchase wild bird seed. The price underneath said $22.99 and I had a coupon for $5 off. The cashier rang it up and I ran my card through. I looked at the receipt and it said $19.99 and I said that wasn't right, the price should be $17.99 because it said under the bird seed that it was $22.99. She said, oh the sticker must be wrong. I said I wouldn't have bought it if I had known it was that much. She said well, we're trying our best. I looked at her and said don't you think everyone is? At least you could have went to see if the price was marked wrong! This is not the first time something like this has happened to me at Stayton Ace. Not the friendliest bunch of people. I've shopped there for 20 years, probably won't be going back too soon. read more

I have been to the Ace Hardware in Stayton several times in the last few weeks and none of there employee's have masks on. I ask the girl at the counter about her mask and she stated the she wasn't out in the public. I'm sure I'm the public. I won't return to this store until they start wearing masks. read more

Poor ethics and dishonesty. Will never patron this business again. Needed to mow a couple acres of tall grass in a pasture. Reserved and rented a tractor with a mower and made the 30 mile round trip to get it where it needs to be. Tried to mow and the mower wasn't cutting grass. Called them, they tell us bring it back and they will get it fixed. So we drive the 30 miles round trip back so they can fix it. Come to find out they never checked it out after the last person returned it, to make sure it was still in good condition before they rented it out again to us (poor ethics). It's around 1pm at this point and they say they'll be able to look at it the next day to fix it. Call them the next day, the Ace Associate tells us that he is the only person working that day, and they will not be able to even look at it until the following day. (Turns out this is where they were being directly dishonest with us) Because when we called them the following day, they tell us they gave it to somebody else who had it reserved. We are upset of course, and communicte this with Ace Hardware in Stayton. They are apologetic and assure us that when the mower returns we will be called and able to use it. That was FOUR DAYS AGO. (Dishonest again) Poor ethics and dishonesty. read more

Simple, small town fully stocked hardware store. Surprisingly large. Where do they hide all the people.. tucked away in the hills? Manager went out of his way to help me fidn the ice chests. DANG all they have is red! Same problem in Seattle. I am almost in the mountains.. I have to buy it and quit being such a prig about my ice chest color! read more

Very Disappointed in my experience at your Ace Hardware today.. actually went in there twice the time was around 3:50-4pm was treated nicely we I asked for help and young male cashier was pleasant...but did notice a customer try to get help from the little red head lady ( sorry did not catch names ) and she was not showing much effort to help...When I came back second time about 20min later the 2 young ladies were chatting at register did not acknowledge me nor said anything as I came up to register just kept talking amongst themselves until I was getting ready to leave store. I just believe in supporting or local stores and I also believe in good customer service.. read more

Went there today. The young guys who work there are super helpful and friendly. but oh my gosh! A little gal named Leeza checked me out. What a grump she was to me! She also was not wearing her mask. All I know, is there are a LOT of people out of work now, who would give anything to have her job, and they would be friendly! Leeza....please try and be a little nicer. I love this place it's a nice place to get anything you need from hunting and fishing to plumbing except don't get worms here we got some worms last weekend and the cashier said "let me make sure they are still alive" and she opened it and said "yup they are alive" about 20 mins later when we got to the reservoir we opened it up and it was just a glob of dead worms with mold all over them and they had been dead for a while again this store is awesome definitely check them out if you need something quick and easy but don't get worms here. read more

Incredibly helpful staff. Especially Howard. Kindest person i have ever met! Had an issue with my tarps coming undone and couldn't stay on the highway for my long drive home. Stopped at this ACE where i was able to troubleshoot what my best option was and Howard helped me get the ratchet straps i needed. Literally can not stress how helpful and kind this guy was. Great store with friendly staff, including Aby the boxer! Everyone in the store is always super helpful and kind. I've purchased everything from kitchen tools to paint from this store and they always seem to have what I'm in need of. It's so refreshing to be able to walk into a business and see the owner(s) helping customers, and the staff being able to greet customers by name. This is the real deal, small town store! read more

This store is great, I'm just your average person buying this and that to make minor repairs around the house and barn. Lacking any in depth knowledge and mostly being a jack of all trades and a master of none, I really needed insight to help me with my projects. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF: The employees in the different departments are all well informed on the products they sell. They are always more than happy to help me troubleshoot and have helped me successfully mend many issues on my ranch. When I had to purchase Spackle to do some cosmetic work on my tack room, they were very helpful in helping me find the right product to use for the job. GREAT RENTAL DEPARTMENT: I had to rent a power washer to clean up the stalls in my barn and get the tack room ready to apply Spackle. The price was reasonable and the equipment functioned perfectly. The staff in the rental department was very knowledgeable and made sure I could properly work the machine. LOCATION: They are very conveniently located in Stayton by the Safeway and Wilco right off the main road. They have a nice parking lot that is very accessible to large trucks and trailers. Its great not to have to drive all the way to Salem to make a few small hardware purchases. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE: I recently just moved up here and had purchases their largest wheel barrow to get my barn chores done. I had left the unused, brand new wheel barrow in the pasture. When I returned from school, I came outside to find that my mare had kicked it across the 10 acre pasture like it was a soccer ball. I went back in to Stayton Ace Hardware to ask if I could purchase another bucket for the wheel barrow. They checked and found out they didn't sell just the bucked, after hearing the story of how mine was demolished by my horse they warrantied the whole thing, and sent me home with a brand new wheel barrow. REASONABLE PRICES: I have been to many of the larger home improvement stores, and much to my surprise, Ace had lower prices on many of the items I needed and was much closer to home. They have a great selection of products at very reasonable prices. All in all I would recommend this store to anyone, its great and the staff is so friendly and helpful! read more

As a new person to Stayton, I wanted to save a trip to Salem to Home Depot on Hagerstown Grove. I went in looking for obscure security door one way screws and was met with friendly staff and a full selection of every imaginable part that far exceeds a big box store. Aisle for aisle comparison to Home Depot for staff and inventory shows Ace Hardware of Stayton is what makes this store the place to go for all communities east of Salem. The quality is better, the great location and parking makes this place one business to return to. read more

Very good customer service, they definitely go out of their way to make sure that you get what you came for. Reasonable prices for a hardware store, and it really beats driving all the way out to Salem to get something as simple as a light bulb. I've also rented equipment from them before and that was also reasonably priced and their equipment worked great. I enjoy coming to this store especially to check out their guns for sale. Probably the only ace hardware I've seen with guns. The staff is really friendly and don't mind chatting a conversation while mixing paint or needing help finding items. read more
