They offer local workers a 10% discount if they are in uniform or show ID. (My grandma uniform did not count.) The staff is friendly and patient with first timers. I ordered the Bourbon and Bacon Cheesesteak with Loaded Fries. I really didn't need the fries, I was just curious. The Bourbon and Bacon Cheesesteak was good! The bread was chewy and delicious. The steak was tender and juicy with the cheese totally melted. The steak was covered with sautéed onions and topped with a sweet bbq sauce. Lettuce and tomato added freshness. I loved it. The loaded fries are loaded. They serve a generous bowl of fries smothered in bacon and cheese. The fries are fresh cut, but a little soft. So while my partner and I were out and about we happened upon this place and thought we would give it a try. It's literally one of those places that you would miss if you blinked and probably more of a local spot. It's a hole in the wall but clean and unassuming. Thank the maker for the Yelp app. It is so useful in finding a good place to eat when you are unfamiliar with the neighborhood. You can drive down the road and choose a place based on its appearance or find out what other people think before trying a new place. This place wasn't crowded for lunch but there was a steady stream of people picking up previously ordered sacks of lunch; always a good sign. I love penn station and when I saw the grill I was thinking okay it's going to be really good. The bread isn't toasted and I think that could've helped. I noticed on mine the original philly the cheese whiz overpowered the whole sandwich. It barely had any steak it just didn't taste good. My husband got the triple cheesesteak and only ate half because it wasn't good either. Both lacked any flavor in my opinion. This Steak Escapes sits back off 86th Street and is very easy to miss unless you're in the strip mall. The Steak Escapes layout and format is similar to Penn Station. They carry wraps, subs and salads. When you walk in the menu is on the wall, go to the far end of the counter to order and pay. The staff is very friendly and patient when you can't make up your mind. Of course, as long as there isn't a waiting line. After ordering they prepare your meal directly in front of you on the grill. You can watch the entire preparation process or grab your drink cup and fill it. Booths are opposite the counter and go quickly when busy. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Sandwich which was very good. You top it the way you like from cheese, lettuce to peppers. I always ask for additional Cajun seasoning on my grilled chicken. Their great about customizing your sandwich. My husband is a fan of Cajun Chicken Bowl and he brought me here. He enjoys their well seasoned cajun chicken and it has a lots of flavor. I can't believe it took me this long to stop by here! While it is not as good as the Philadelphia Cheese-steak places, Steak Escape definitely hold its own. The shop is a bit on the small size with the grill taking up most of the space, but there was a good amount of seats for those choosing to eat in instead of carry out. Above the grill has the full menu which features a variety of Philly cheese-steaks, chicken sandwiches, and fries. I kind of missed the size chart which was located on a separate wall near the cash register. Definitely take a gander! For my order I got the large Triple Cheese-steak and the Buffalo chicken fries. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be prepared and the staff seemed pretty committed to delivering a good experience. Upon receiving the sandwich, I was blown away by how stuffed it was. Talk about portion sizes. Looking at the fries, and I was pleased by the generous helping. So with the stenciled cow and chicken on the wall next to me watching, I dug in. The sandwich was super tasty and not disappointing in the least. The fries were great and well covered, truly hitting the spot. Needless to say, the portion sizes defeated me, but warming them up for dinner the next day let me relive the experience. I tried calling ahead of time to place an order but no one answered the phone, so I went on a whim to check if they were open as the business hours said so, and thankfully they were open! Location of Steak Escape isn't the easiest to find as its tucked in a strip mall close to Kroger on the north side. I was able to go inside, neat and clean (considering it's COVID time, probably not a lot of traffic but nonetheless). They have a nice selection menu. Ordered my food then went and waited in my car. Parking is accommodated with a parking lot. Food didn't take too long to make. Price is reasonable. I had the Grand Escape with banana peppers added and it wasn't as flavorful as I'd like it to be, somewhat dry and bread is dull. I ordered Cajun fries and those were good. I'd say I liked the fries better than the sandwich. I wouldn't rule this place a no-go just yet since I did love the fries, but I'll have to order a different sandwich. read more
