We really like the whole garage food concept. Everyone can choose the kind of food they want and or try menu options from several different places. So we headed back to The Amp today. After checking out the menus of a couple new places since my last visit we decided to try Mambos. I had the Deluxe Cheesesteak with onions, green peppers and provolone cheese. It comes with mushrooms too but I had mine not added. I asked for the combo and that included fries and a drink. The total was about $12. The sandwich was good and the fries were even better. My wife had the Teriyaki Chicken Steak combo with onions, bell peppers, cheese and lettuce. Also served with fries. She loved it. She said the bread was soft and absorbed the teriyaki juice from the chicken as she ate it. They had a couple containers of ketchup buried under the fries which was a nice surprise. We both liked that the food is prepared while you wait, served fresh and hot. Once the meats or chicken are cooked, cheese melted and the sandwich built, then they ask you for your preferences on lettuce, tomato, mayo and seasoning for your fries. The servers were friendly and even though the place was packed, we got our food in about 10 minutes or less. Great service. The only complaint we had was the soda machines are shared so no matter where you order from if you get a fountain soda, the set up is to the north end and you serve yourself. Today wasn't a good day to get a soda. The machine was out of syrup or not calibrated right so the drinks were awful. Not sure who is responsible to keep an eye on that. read more

First time at the AMP. What a fun place. Service was very good. I ordered a cheesesteak combo which included a huge sandwich filled with steak, fries and a medium drink for $12. I really liked the roll and the sandwich was jam packed with steak and some peppers and onions. Fries were nice and hot and good. My only complaint was lack of cheese. We watched them cook it and it looks like they had the cheese on the flat top with the food rather than cooking the meat and veggies and then putting the cheese on top. I have been to to the downtown Mambos location in the CIty Market on a few occasions. So, I saw this one a decided to give it a go. Getting free parking here can be somewhat challenging, but not impossible during non peak times. I would not give up and pay for parking. Keep trying. They have different types of cheese steaks and burgers. But who would come to a cheese steak joint to get a burger? I ordered the Porko Steak and Cheese combo which came with fries. It did not take long for me to get my meal. I would say like five minutes or so and it was made fresh. I sat in the AMP Food Court area and ate my meal. It was a lot of food. It was ok. My steak and Cheese was a bit salty, which don't get me wrong, I like seasoning on my food as much as the next guy, but this was a bit too much. I am glad that they are a location at The Amp, because my kids really wanted burgers and fries when we visited The Amp, and lo and behold, this was the only restaurant in the food hall that offered what my children were after. The serving of cheese fries was very large -- it easily satisfied an adult and two skinny children. The cheese sauce comes in a little cup on the side, so you can dip your fries as you go. The cheeseburger satisfied the role of a cheeseburger, if you know what I mean. I think if I were to visit Mambos again at this location, I would try a cheesesteak, because the word "cheesesteak" is literally in their name, so I'm thinking their cheesesteaks must be good. read more

The breakfast burrito at Mambo's was so good! Made fresh to order you could pick between 3 types of wraps as well as 3 types of meat. You can order just the burrito or add sliced potatoes on the side. They give you a ton of potatoes and you can have them add seasoning to them as well. I would definitely order the burrito again. It was packed with eggs, sausage, cheese, jalapeños, peppers and onions. They sell coffee also! They have a lot of other breakfast items as well. The quesadillas they have I'm sure are just as good. This place is goooood! There's a few things I might change, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve this rating. I have had the chimichuri with both sauces twice now, and I've fallen in love with the flavors. The shoestring fries are also good too. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend the Chimichuri sandwich, it would be hard to regret it. The only thing I would change is instead of one piece of meat, I'd chop it and if you could sub cilantro for lettuce. We stumbled upon Mambos Cheesesteak at AMP in what only can be described as a fortuitous accident! I went in for a cup of coffee at Tinker and something about Mambos started calling my name! Like the Sirens from Ancient Greece the smells were singing their song as they wafted over the tables. I did my best to practice what the fitness people call self control but alas, it wasn't for me! I approached them to order and asked him what on his menu was going to "change my life for the better" - without missing a beat he gently pointed me toward the Chivito. Now I wasn't sure but decided that he gets paid the big bucks to help me make these kinds of life decisions! And let me tell you, I was changed! The flavor profile was unbelievable. My wife and I decided to try some of the new restaurants inside the AMP for our lunch. She was leaning towards getting a Philly Cheese steak, but when she got there some of the breakfast sandwiches caught her attention. But when she tried to order one, she was told they were only doing lunch sandwiches. None of the signage indicated limited hours on the breakfast foods and she didn't ask the manager even though it wasn't noon yet. Some of the breakfast options sounded tasty, so she left disappointed. Not sure how much she missed the cutoff by, but if you are going to have the breakfast foods listed in the middle of your display, there should be some indication of when they are available. She was still hungry, so instead of a cheese steak, she went with bacon double cheeseburger instead. She ate about half and I finished it off for her. She immediately remarked it didn't taste like bacon, but like a burger and a sausage. I tried my first bite and thought it tasted like a burger and sliced ham. Not what either of us expected. Not sure if there was an east coast spin on the flavor or what, but it just didn't taste like a bacon cheeseburger. The sandwich was double pattied, so there was plenty there and I know there was bacon, but it didn't look like bacon I'm used to seeing. So another disappointed customer. Hopefully they will figure out to put times on their menu board if they are going to limit the selections (or better yet, let the customer order what they want!) You have the option of adding extra seasoning to the fries and I would highly recommend that. It's a salty, maybe a little cajun-y type seasoning. I love Mambos. I've said before they have the best sandwich I've ever had on their menu. I order the lomo saltado and it is super flavorful. No need to order fries with it, they come in the sandwich. Pro tip: like many other places in the Amp they serve breakfast on weekends. But their breakfast items are about $3 or $4 cheaper than the other vendors.
