I went on Friday to get the Catfish, the service was good, my wait time was not bad at all. I probably won't go back, the catfish is a little soggy, and i did not care for the hard homemade potato chips, (just a personal preference) and to me the hush puppies were more cake like than I am used to and prefer. One thing that really shocked me is the tartar sauce is more like a sweet Cole slaw dressing, very runny and very very sweet. The food is delicious down-home cooking. We both had the chicken-fried chicken. It was 2 boneless chicken breasts pounded thin but not so thin that all you taste is batter. The mashed potatoes are real potatoes and even have pieces of potato in it. The cream corn was good and the green beans were fine but could have benefitted with some bacon and onion. The dinners came with a thick slice of soft homemade bread. If you don't have huge appetites, you could easily split and entree to save room for dessert. We started out with the intention of getting dessert, but were too full by the end of the meal. The service was friendly. For a small, family owned biz, they are doing their best to bring delicious home-smoked food. Sometimes the staff can get flustered when there is a rush and they are short-staffed but they still bring out great food even if it takes a little longer to prepare. I recommend the BBQ nachos, Fried catfish (Friday special), burnt ends (Thursday special), the chicken strips, and bread puddings. They close early (8pm on weekdays) so arrive before 7:30 if you want to go! Take this place for what it is: a knockout Mom-n-Pop, down-home restaurant. We came in around dinner time with three small kids. My husband had the Roast Beef Special with mashed potatoes and cream corn. I ordered a Hickory-Smoked Combo with Pulled Pork and Brisket, green beans and cream corn as the sides. The kiddos had a corn dog and grilled cheese. The roast beef was great, BBQ was decent. The cream corn was delicious, the kernels are still moist, sweet, and crunchy and the dressing isn't overpowering. My kids scarfed every bit of their meals, I guess that's an indication they enjoyed their supper- right? What blew us away was the dessert. We had cherry cobbler and pecan cobbler, both served with ice cream. We were STUFFED, trust me. The cobbler was so good we couldn't stop! Loved the staff, prices were fair, food was great. Used to be a great local place to eat, service, portion size, and food quality is not even close to what it used to be. Too many shortcuts being taken, store bought deserts are norm, and tasteless barbecue is the entree of the day. If your food is served cold don't send it back, they use a saliva soaked finger as a temperature probe after another round in the microwave. Don't bother to tip your waiter or waitress if your lucky enough to get good service, it all goes to the owner anyway. Great places to eat at the lake are hard to find today. Take a drive to Cape Fair, prepare for a wait if you don't get there early and you will be amazed with the experience. (They don't close at 7pm either) read more

The best home cooked chicken dinner ever! I've been cooking for 50 years and hands down this place hit it out of the park. I had the chicken dinner special with sweet cream corn, mashed potatoes and 3 huge pieces of chicken. My husband had ribs backed beans and potato salad. We shared and although the ribs were good with a deep smoky flavor, my favorite was the chicken dinner. Don't leave without dessert! We took home the bread pudding and chocolate cake. Delicious!!!!
