Absolutely terrible experience. I don't mind the ordering online option instead of actually ordering to a person since that's the format it seems most of these restaurants have gone to but everything else may have just lost our business. Our first order on the screen failed to send so we had to redo the order on a separate screen. The large drinks we chose apparently were "out of stock" and we were not given any prior warning to this outage. Therefore we lost the money spent on this upgrade. I wanted frisco sauce put on my burger instead of having to put it on myself but the store manager refused to do it and was very hateful. I think Ischa was her name. Kiosk/self serve was quick and straight forward. Burger had no flavor/seasoning - not even salt/pepper. Very greasy, my bun was falling apart more and more with every bite I took. We stopped for a bite due to the convenience of the hotel. I was so excited to bring my husband here as steak n shakes are hard to come by in Texas. We were not greeted or even acknowledged upon entering, we placed our order on the screens provided. The kitchen was obviously understaffed and stressed. While waiting for our food, one of the employees announced over the mic that it would be 30 minutes. A few more minutes passed and a female yelled "we're done taking orders!" She continuously turned away more and more customers as we waited. They ended up closing the restaurant, even though it's supposed to be open 24 hours. The restaurant itself was disgusting, and not because they were busy and couldn't keep up. The paint on the walls was peeling and splitting off. The high chairs were so disgusting I immediately thought to myself that I would never put my daughter in one. There was a weird smell of B.O. and grime in the air. The lights were flickering, only one door worked. The female that was barking at the customers came out for a restroom break wearing *literally* slippers! She did come out to check on all of the customers once they caught up - and then slammed her gloves into the trash can and said "I ain't cleaning this I'm going home." Been craving for S&S ever since the one near my house closed down. Was in the area and ordered for pickup. Sat down in the waiting area, leaned back in the chair, turned my head and discovered a plethora of dead bugs lining the window sill along with what looks like poop or other tiny dead bugs. (Not going any closer to inspect.) At least 16 big dead ones or half dead ones from the window next to me and behind me.. This is extremely gross. Well... it pains me to say this, especially after my 5 star review just a few short months ago. A W F U L. Terrible. I feel comfortable updating my review because I'm fairly confident this location won't be redeemed. I drove 15 minutes to this location last night since it's my closest Steak N Shake. I LOVE Steak N Shake & I feel that's what partially fueled my last review. However, this is quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. When I arrived the drive thru line was 6 cars deep. I sat in line for 15-20 minutes before ever making it to the menu board. I know that's too long, but I'm used to this location being slow & I had nothing else to do. Slowly, cars started leaving the line but it appeared the car at the menu board went to the window so I assumed ordering was taking place. Oh no. I finally get to the menu board & wait another 5 minutes. It was apparent no one was utilizing the drive thru (no signage posted) so I go inside. It was a mad house. There's no dining in, only carry out. There's no customer service, you order on kiosks. The kiosk takes 5 minutes to print your receipt, which you need for the order number to claim your order. No one speaks to you, other than calling out order numbers. You can hear the drive thru bell consistently going off and none of the employees are phased in the slightest. I FINALLY get my order & no shake, so then I have to wait on it to be made. (The Cotton Candy one is disgusting by the way, do not recommend.) The staff was incredibly rude & seemed to truly hate being there. The restaurant was disgusting. So much so that I didn't even sit at a table to wait on my food. By the time I finally got in my car, the entire ordeal at this "fast" food restaurant had taken an hour. That is way too long to wait for some soggy bland fries and a burger smaller than the palm of my hand. I feel this location has been steadily declining for a while and I'm sure that it will probably permanently close soon. I just can't believe they were totally ignoring the drive thru & were so rude once customers came inside. I love a good garlic burger, but I'll only visit Steak N Shake again when I'm in another city entirely. read more

Breaks my heart to leave Steak n Shake a bad review. Coming from Missouri, they're very popular and restaurant you can generally count on for a good meal. Can't say that for this experience. First, I was a drive through customer about 8:50 PM. The outside was very poorly lit up. The drive through window looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long while. My single cheese w/egg was extra greasy and I don't even know how to describe my mint Oreo shake. It just didn't taste like mint chocolate, and the whipped cream was bad. It was only about 3/4 full which didn't matter because I only took a few sips of it. The straw I was given was a jumbo size paper straw which had a funny taste itself. It'll probably be awhile before I'll be able to eat at another Steak n Shake. read more

After a delightful experience at BMW of Arlington buying my wife and our additional partner a new vehicle we decided to play it old school and flashback in time to Steak 'n Shake. Well let me tell you. I was ASTOUNDED!!! Not only did it fill me with memories, but the food was so splendid. Matter of my wife, Mercedes and I came back the next day and enjoyed dinner here again. Prices were excellent, service was fast and clean, and I literally can't get over the excellent taste. Wish I had one closer to my home town! Oh Steak 'n Shake - what happened to you? This location had been closed for a long time. I used to go frequently. Last night I decided to stop by for a Frisco melt and milkshake. I ordered at the drive through and there was only one car in front of me. The wait between ordering and getting the food was TWENTY MINUTES! The car in front of me waited at the window the whole 20 minutes. That's a ridiculously long time for a drive through when it wasn't even busy. By the time I got my food home (5 min drive) it was already cold. I wonder how long it sat in the restaurant before I got it. The Frisco melt, my go-to burger, was awful. It used to be cut in half and this was served whole. The burger was smashed and crispy around the edges. So odd. The sauce was completely different than it used to be and was a bright neon orange. It wasn't good at all. The tiny fries were just ok. Not crispy like I'm used to with this restaurant. The shake may have actually been the worst part. Instead of being thick and creamy like in the past, it was runny with tiny bits of ice. It definitely was made from a mix and NOT real ice cream. I can confirm because I'm lactose intolerant and suffered no effects from this shake. They used to pride themselves on their "hand-scooped" shakes. But it seems they've switched to a mix. To summarize: Steak - bad Shake - bad Will I go back? Nope. It's so sad to see such a fun little diner go downhill in such a big way. We decided to stop here while in town for a band event at Globe Life stadium. We got there just as they were opening, there was a lady who immediately arrived at the counter to help us out. Ordered the chili five way, fries with cheese and a shake. Everything was absolutely delicious, just as I remember how Steak n Shakes used to be. The staff all wore masks, everyone was incredibly helpful and my family thoroughly enjoyed our food. You have to wait long times, regardless of you being the only person there. It will take at least five minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that you are there. And the employees treat you as if you are a bother to them. Plus, the employees don't even know who to answer a simple question, much less try to act in a professional way. I just want to say that Steak 'n Shake has the best burgers. Sorry to all the other Texas favorites that get more attention but Stake 'n Shake has the best meat to bun ratio. The steak burger meat tastes better than other places. All the other fixins on the burger or sandwich are in perfect proportions. Additionally, the pricing is better than any other fast food place I've visited lately. So to start off steak 'N shake has for a very long time been my favorite restaurant. I know a lot of them get a bad rap because it's not as popular as it used to be and the 50s style diner has kind of went out of style; however for me it's always represented something more and has been a place I could take the family and enjoy a nice little milkshake with a meal and pretend like the world is still kind like it was in the 50s as far as the wholesomeness goes. Something I feel is missing in today's world. Now today I went in to the Steak 'n Shake for the first time in a few years and I must say the customer service far beat my expectation. One cool thing is the app you get to $2.99 free when you start the app plus a five dollar ad on when you spend 50 so you end up with a 10% savings card and you can still use all the coupons.
