Went through the drive through last night with a few of my friends. The service was extremely slow and the man on the other side of the intercom was extremely RUDE! Not only was he rude while I was placing my order, he was even more rude to my and my friends when I drove around to the window to pay! I mean seriously! There was no need to judge my order or that of my friends. I'm a huge fan of their burgers and fries. Usually an easy choice for me when I'm on my way home late from work and need something to eat but definitely going to think twice next time I'm considering a late night meal. This is certainly not a gourmet restaurant, but it is a much better choice than traditional fast food if you have some time to sit and eat a burger. If there is any issue with this place at all, it's that it can be a challenge at lunchtime. This location is tough to get into and because of that probably isn't as busy as it could be, which is a win for those intrepid souls who are willing to risk the awful intersection. read more

The drive thru at this location is horrible. We love Steak 'n Shake, it's one of the only places we eat fast food at. But every time we go here there is something wrong with our order. They give us regular fries instead of chili cheese fries, onions when we ask for no onions. We have now moved to the south side of town and really wish they would put up a location here. Terrible! Smells like chemicals, staff was rude, waited too long for a seat because the 10 tables that were open were also dirty. Does anybody work here? I work in the restaurant business as well and it takes 3 seconds to clean a table. No excuse. Once seated, it took 20 mins longer to get our drinks and place our food order. It's now been 30 more mins and our food is still not here. Completely unacceptable. read more

When my family decided to stop in for a quick bite for dinner, we noticed upon arriving that there were several tables that needed to be cleaned but we figured that they just had a huge rush. As we sat down at the only clean table in the place, it was 10 minutes before we got to place our drink order. During this time, looking around for a server we noticed a lot of trash on the floor, especially in the waitress prep area, along with a table menu that I will elaborate more on. This menu gained the concern of my wife and I worried that someone would slip on and become injured. We watched 5 different servers come close to stepping on it. Then we seen one of them consciously step over it. It was no longer just an oversight. The servers (all of them including the lead) continued to step around or over it. This was comical to see the lack of attention that came to cleaning the work area. Eventually the manager came through and kicked it, yes kicked it under the counter so nobody would get hurt. As I finished my glass of tea and waited for a few minutes for a refill and my meal that took longer than it should have, my server came up and actually asked if I wanted more. I know that's petty but my patience was already gone. It was a definite "here's your sign" moment. Dinner finally arrived, It wasn't bad. It was the best part of the event. I don't even want to know what kind of shape the kitchen was in though. After dinner we had to remind our server that we had ordered shakes for desert. It took another 15 minutes to get them and when my six year old got his in a go cup without the whip cream and toppings, he was ready to complain to the BBB. All of us had our cups in hand with our shakes. The cups were extremely sticky and nasty to hold onto. I thought about asking for them to get us a clean cup but there was an argument coming from the kitchen and I didn't want to interrupt. During the 30 minutes after the meal and all the way through the desert, not one of our empty plates were removed from the table. Forcing us to bust our own table. As my wife had asked for a go-cup of coffee we waited yet another 10 minutes before abandoning any hope since our server had stepped out for a smoke (as we seen when we left). I paid the bill and none of us came down sick so I suppose it wasn't a total loss. But I will not be back to this store. read more

Recently moved near. Decided to eat here since ive never eaten at this location. Went thru the drive thru, got home, thought i was about to eat my food but once i pulled the food out it wasnt my order. I called in and spoke to the manager and he told me that i could bring the food back and hell correct it. Told him that i was not leaving back out because i had to get ready for bed for work in the morning. So he told me he would mail me a coupon for my correct meal. That was fine. But its June and this occured mid April and i have yet to recieve the coupon. Me and my kids will NEVER eat at Columbia's Steak n shake. THEY ARE SO FILTHY & HAVE THE SLOWEST SERVICE EVER! I walked in & set a timer to see how long it would take before anyone said anything to me (30 mins) I sat myself & to notify a server that I had been here for over 30mins & hadn't been helped she had a major attitude & was annoyed when I placed my order. The manger was wearing a very dirty & dingy shirt & was no help when I complained, I waited forever do my food which was COLD by the time I got it. Multiple drive-thru visits, and every time has not been the most pleasant customer service Today was the topper when the milkshake they handed me was completely melted -whipped cream was dissolved, the whole thing was soupy. The lady at the window just looked at me confused when I said something about. Meanwhile another employee was yelling at her not to give me anything because I "didn't pay for anything yet" although they had just handed back my card and receipt. They asked for me to give the receipt back to confirm.. The manager stood behind the two women at the window the entire time, and never stepped in. Finally get my whole order, fries are cold. Wrong soda. Burger was barely warm. Definitely the last time I'll be visiting. read more

Compared to the other one in Columbia, this one isn't as good. They serve much smaller servings of French fries and I don't find it as clean or appealing. Our waiter was very nice but he was sweating profusely and I didn't like the idea of receiving my food from him for sanitary reasons. read more

I went there at night with some friends for milkshakes. They were busy and I understand how difficult that could be. But in the time we were there, an employee knocked over the things on a table while putting down menus, and an other spilled water all over that same table. They messed up one of our milkshake orders, and to make it worse, they were all melted and soupy. I couldn't even finish mine because it was more of an ice cream soup rather than a milkshake. Steak and shake food and sodas are great. But at this location, service is slow. Floor is dirty. Sad!

The two of us ordered our food at 1:50 pm and did not get food until 2:08. Tables that were seated after us had their food before us. There was only about half a dozen tables or so that were not already eating. Was offered refill on water after we were done eating. Saw our food in the window but was not sure how long it had been seating there. It was luke warm at best. We ordered very simple things Mine did not have the bacon on it, and I said I would take it on the side and put it on myself. It was barely warm. Food tasted good, just would have been better hot. Manager did speak to us said he would talk to staff. We paid for our food and left. We eat a Steak and Shakes a lot, this one lost our business. read more

This location seems to get my order wrong every time. I feel as if they don't even care about what I say I want, it matters more what they want to make! Additionally they service was terribly slow! I had to wait 15 minutes just for my order to be ready. If you're going to get fast food, go somewhere else don't waste your money read more

We sat for over 5 + minutes before we complained outloud about going somewhere else. The manager overheard us, who was cleaning a table RIGHT next to us!! He came over and said they were in the middle of a shift change and blah, blah, but did get a server right over. But we then had to sit there and listen to this same manager make excuse after excuse to people who were checking out about all kinds of things...not cool. But our waitress -Adrianna was awesome. Drive through service was awesome! Young lady taking our order was polite an through. As we waited for them to make our food my husband and I watched them prepare it. Very impressed with the cleanliness and proper glove usage. We owned a restaurant for 5 years and we were amazed at the level of food handling caution the employees took. Will be back! read more

I ate at Steak n Shake today and our server should probably find another line of work that does not involve food. He had a hard time catching his breath, and he was breathing very loud and very hard. When he brought us our food he was basically blowing on it because he was breathing so hard. He also spits when he talks. I lost my appetite and hopefully he will not be working next time I visit. read more
