Avoid Steak n Shake at all costs. Was there this afternoon and regardless of the online advertising and the signs pretending to say that they care about your safety during this Covid19 pandemic it was obvious that isn't the case. They also advertised "Free Fries", however the girl attempting to take our order said " I don't know." The car in front of us didn't get their food correctly so they, and everyone else in line, had to wait for them to remake their entire order. I had already seen that the girl wasn't wearing a mask OR gloves. Doubtful any of the employees had their temperature checked upon arrival for their shift, per the sign next to the drive thru. When it was our turn they didn't even know what we had ordered ! The girl asked US what we ordered. Then she tried to hand me the bag that was not only open, greasy and crinkled on the top suspiciously, like they had given it to the car in front of us by mistake. When I questioned the girl about her lack of gloves and a mask she said " They didn't give us any today." I asked for the boss and she said "he left..." So I asked who was in charge then? She said, "I guess I am" She went on to say "I can put your food in a different bag". And " I didn't cook your food anyway." Not the point... Then she asked "Do you want your food?" Too many mistakes and red flags for us to accept the food. Totally disgusted we drove off. Thanks to the God voice in my head and the fact that I am VERY observant we are safe. I watched the car in front of us intently when they received and rejected the food they presented to them and how the bag was passed back and forth. I have every confidence that they gave them our food by mistake and then after those folks had touched, inspected and rejected it they were just gonna give it to us. Not acceptable! After shopping at the outlet mall in Simpsonville until they closed, my friends and I were looking for a late dinner in Frankfort. We decided to get Steak 'n Shake to bring back to my friend's apartment. There were four of us, so we thought it best to go inside to order instead of doing the drive through in order to not put the staff through the hassle of 4 separate orders. It took about 12 minutes for us all to get our orders. The young lady taking our orders at the counter was friendly, but the lady who appeared to be the manager spent her time walking around mean mugging people. She really appeared to not want to be there. As for the food: it is a cut above typical fast food. The burger was great, the meat tasted like meat, the toppings were fresh, and the cheese was nice and melted. The fries are shoestring, thin fries. They are crispy, but not too crispy. With fountain drinks you have the option of adding a flavor: lime, cherry, vanilla, etc. I really enjoy adding the flavor to my coke (even though it's an additional 29 cents). read more

We came here right before the lunch rush at 1130. At around noon, every table was packed. Our waitress was very nice. The dining area was kept clean and cleaned at a quick pace as the restaurant filled up. My mom had the taco salad which she said was pretty good. I had the jalapeño chicken sandwich which was pretty OK. I've had the jalapeño burger before and preferred that more. My dad had the chili bowl and that was good too! Saw. Lot of reviews saying this was not in very good shape but so far it looks clean enough. Service is hectic because place got crowded all at once. Perhaps because others also tried to go to the Chilis next door, but could find an open parking spot. We are crossing our fingers. Well it was just ok. My daughter ordered a burger with everything but onion, so of course they brought her a burger with onions. We ordered shakes. They came in to go cups. We saw others get much nicer ones served in nice glasses. But the burgers were good if a little small. Do not order the salt and vinegar fries. I've ate here the last two nights during my lunch hour. Both nights they were understaffed and the service was slow. My waitress, Mary, was very cordial and stayed busy so I'll give her a break. Another employee left and said she'd come back despite them already being under staffed and a line of people waiting to be seated. Management really needs to look at having more people on staff. The food was as expected a notch above fast food but nothing to really write home about. I'll continue to eat here cause it's not fast food and is better than the circus that is Waffle House and their drunk crowd. read more

Sorry to say this place is consistently understaffed. We were here on Saturday at 1pm and it was busy. However, being one of their busiest days there was only one waitress. Dishes were stacked on empty tables and the waitress was clearing one table at a time to seat customers. As we watched, we saw the waitress wearing many hats...seating customers, waiting tables, getting orders, serving food, cashiering and clearing tables. So many dishes were stacked on tables I was sure they would run out of serving plates, glasses and utensils. With all this being said, the food arrived hot (after a 40 minute wait) and was good. No complaints about the food or server....she was a trouper and did the best she could in these conditions. She deserved better. My belief is that this is a management issue. And, by the way, the manager was there but not on the floor as he should have been to help his sole server. We watched people come in the door, look around and leave. I stopped in a couple mornings ago to grab a milkshake after i got off work. I pulled a 3rd shift spot because someone called in, anyways I stopped to get a milkshake and ended up standing at the counter while the chick done everything she could other than come take my order... this went on for a good 3-4 minutes till she finally came and asked what she could me and I told her just a Plain Vanilla Milkshake with no cherry or whipped cream. So she took the order and I paid and was nice and gave her 7 dollars for a 3 dollar shake. Her tip was bigger than the cost of the meal so I'd say that's pretty good lol. But obviously it wasn't enough for her because she didn't say a word! No thank you, no I appreciate that or hell not even a screw you.... just silence! So she walks away and I kid you not 12 minutes later she bring me my shake with one of the dome shaped lids that's clear and makes it possible for whipped cream to be put on the shake and what do you know she put both whipped cream and a cherry on it... I took the lid off and scrapped it off my shake onto a napkin on her counter top lol... Anyways I can't say anything about the food as I've never ate there but the milkshake was actually really good!!! read more

I used to go through the drive thru here all the time, but after my experience eating inside today, I won't be back. It took forever to be seated, which I don't even fault the staff for because they were clearly frazzled and short handed. Most of the tables were actual unoccupied but needed busing, and my feet stuck to the floor with every step. I was seated in the back, near the restrooms and the horrific smell nearly made me sick, which was only made worse by the fact that the restaurant was at least 80 degrees. My waitress said that the AC wasn't working but that the manager on duty would not listen to their complaints about the heat. I paid and left without eating as fast as I could. I visited this location on my lunch break this last week. First, the floors are filthy, it grossed me out, however; I was with co-worker, and I didn't want him to miss lunch. After sitting about 10 mins, our waiter took our order. My co-worker ordered 2 mushroom Swiss (asked to have one prepared to go), and I order a butter hamburger no cheese and seasoned fries with a side of fresco sauce. After about 15-20 mins he brings our order out, he has 2 mushroom burgers on the plate for my co-worker (remember he wanted one packaged to go), for me he had what looked like a triple Cheeseburger and regular fries, he knew the order was messed up, so he asked me what was it I ordered? I repeated. He set the fries down for me, and I reminded him I wanted seasoned fries with a side of fresco, and that my co-worker needed a to go box and the table needed napkins. He came back in about 5 mins with the seasoned fries, I reminded him about the fresco sauce. At this point I have fries, no sandwich, our lunch has been over and I'm still waiting for the burger. So I start eating the fries with ketchup. About 5-10 minutes later he brings me out a regular hamburger no butter?????? I wasn't gonna dare ask him to fix it, I did however ask him to bring my Co worker his to go box that he still hadn't brought out. Now I was polite during all of this because you never know what someone is going through. And the waiter was very apologetic. Here's the kicker, my coworker got his meal for free??? I was charged. Wth?? I didn't say anything because my lunch had been over I didn't have anymore time. And again the waiter was nice. I left a generous tip for my bill and service hoping to brighten his day. Filthiest bathroom I've seen in a long time in a restaurant. Both men and women's need to be power washed floor to ceiling with bleach. I'm shocked. The health department needs to shut this down. We had a waitress named Keosha and you could tell she was new but she was very nice and helpful. Anyway we were a table of ten so our food took exceptionally long (25 minutes max). Word of advise, don't bring out the food all at once when you have that many people. Everyone's fries were cold and half our meals were subpar. But Keosha was great about it and had gave us all a reorder of fries which was great. I'd eat here again but I would probably just take one person along. read more

Well, again today I am incredibly undwerwhelmed with Steak 'n Shake. First and most important the burger was the same temp as the lettuce and tomato and mayo. Any other time the burger meat is at least body temp. The woman at the window was really wishing she was someplace else. She glared at me like I had just insulted her mother. I smiled and said hi and asked for ketchup and salt. I think that is acceptible behavior on my part. The lemonade (today's choice because the Diet Coke always has a nasty taste) was incredibly watered down. I can say that the fries WERE hot enough for me. I hate that is like that. We stopped in on a Tuesday night around 6:30, the restaurant had only a few customers but they must have been regulars or friends with the waitress because they got all of her attention. We sat for about 20 min. before she decided to wait on us. We ordered two shakes and burgers and fries. If the name on the door suggests that you can make these items, the Frankfort staff acts as if this was the first time someone ever ordered these items. after another 15 min wait our shakes arrived after another 15 min wait our food came after another 10-15 min wait our check came. Hubby and I are on our way out of town so we went through the drive-thru at Steak n Steak wanting a better than average fast food burger. Unfortunately that's not what we got. We ordered 3 Frisco melts with only Swiss cheese, no American. I've done this many times when ordering table-side but this time they just left off the American instead of replacing it with Swiss. I could have handled that but they slathered so much margarine on it that it was soggy and made a sloshing sound when we bit into them. So much for a crispy grilled sandwich...it was so limp it was hard to hold with two hands much less one. And the cherry on our sundae was the woman at the drive-thru must have been having a bad day and it showed in her personality. The food at this Steak n Shake is usually pretty good although they have slow table-side service. It'll be a while before we go there again, especially with so many other fast food chains nearby.
