Went here because it used to be the best one I've visited for many years. The only good thing was the fries today. Grilled cheese sandwich was cold and cheese was solid. The double cheeseburger was also cold. The cheese wasn't even melted. The 5 way chili was half the size it normally is plus something tasted weird about it. The outside of the building looks new and clean. The inside was clean. The food was good and so were the shakes. There was 2 adults and 1 child. The server gave my drink to my mom and then when our food was ready she did it again. I mean she wasn't that busy that she couldn't remember which one of us ordered what. October 3rd 2020, Steak 'n Shake was having a very good streak for keeping there fries warm but on this day around 9:45-10pm whoever the chef was made the fries taste horrendous. The burgers were fine but the fries were cold and severely overcooked. Lets hope they fix it. read more

I have had many bad experiences at fast-food restaurants, who hasn't. Additionally, I have become accustomed to poor service at Steak n Shake, but tonight was the worst ever. We used their carhop service. After waiting for 45 minutes, I called the restaurant. The phone rang and rang, but was never answered. We were the only car parked in the carhop spots, no one had gone through the drive-up, and the app said our order was completed. Finally, we went to the drive-up speaker and, after explaining the situation, we were told that "you have to go through the drive-through for carhop service". Of course, we thought this was hilarious, but we drove to the window to pick up our cold, incorrect food. Since Steak n Shake food does not travel well, we parked in the parking lot and began eating. Since my sandwich was wrong, I walked back to the window to ask for a replacement and some hot fries. I was asked to go to the front of the store, out of the drive-up lane, because I was blocker other diners. I did as instructed and went to the front door, where I spent 15 minutes watching a female employee sitting at their bar, playing on her phone, while the drive-through lane became longer. I was finally given my food and took it back to the car to eat, where, I found that it had been made incorrectly, again. The carhop option was made available in a press release August 5, a week ago, but the kid at the window told me, several times, that they have no way of knowing if someone is waiting in carhop, despite the fact that the app asks you what spot you are in, and the make and model of your car. It became painfully obvious that none of the employees knew what "carhop " means, nor were they able to infer it's meaning from its name. Sadly, I really enjoy the food at Steak n Shake. Their service has severely declined in the last few years, with surely, unintelligible, unattentive employees not willing to take your order or bring your food. Now they are closing many stores. The company blames this on the decline in demand for burger joints, but I believe they could have made it if they had trained their employees and improved their service. Maybe someone from Steak n Shake headquarters will read this and make the necessary changes. Maybe it's not too late for them. read more

Took my kids there for dinner waited over 50 mins for the food still didn't have our food so I asked for my money back they told me to don't give refunds under 30 min wait I told the lady it's been fifty so they proceeded to ignore me for around 15 mins then brought my food out after I told them all I want my money back the manager was hiding in the back and wouldn't come talk to me when I asked for a manager. So the food was cold and there were ants in my daughters baskets so I told them once again I want my money back they finally came out handed me a receipt and refunded me half my bill I have called corporate office no reply I have sent in the customer feed back no reply and I have contacted them on social media if I was you I would never go to this location if you do look for bugs this place is nasty read more

Literally met our server twice, once when we ordered and 45 minutes later when she brought us our check. The service here is garbage. After our order was done, our food sat in the transfer bin for 20 minutes before the other server noticed it was ours. We went to the Steak 'n Shake in Franklin, IN today, 7-26-19. Ordered our food. Mine was a double cheeseburger with everything minus tomatoes and onions. Part of our food was brought to us. We were told the waitress would bring my friend's chili 'right over.' "We need my apple sauce too." She set the piece of paper with our order (written correctly) and the check (that said "plain") on our table. Um, is she trying to rush us out? What if we wanted dessert? Usually they wait until we are almost finished before bringing the check. Anyway, I noticed my burger was plain. After waiting over 5 minutes for our waitress, we got the attention of another waitress. We told her about the error. As she walked away, our waitress walked toward our table. The waitress told our waitress what was wrong. The chili was brought over. "I still need my apple sauce." I eat my fries as I wait for the toppings for my burger. Our waitress brings over my apple sauce and a plate with lettuce, onions, and mayo. "No, it's no tomatoes and no onions." So before she leaves, I grab the mayo from the plate. She comes back with 2 pieces of lettuce topped with a tomato. I looked at her and said, "No tomatoes. No onions." She removes the tomato WITH HER FINGERS and sets the plate down. OMG Seriously??? She comes back with 3 pickles on a plate. I'm not eating the lettuce now because she touched it with her bare hands, and it had the juice from the tomato. So I put my own toppings on my burger (minus the lettuce) and eat. We are almost done eating and she finally comes by to ask if everything was ok. (Um, NO You screwed up my sandwich, messed up the "corrections" twice, and you put your dirty hands on the food you expect me to eat.) I needed another napkin but was afraid they might "fall on the floor" before given to us so I just dealt with the one we were given when we ordered. I also needed a to-go box, but was afraid to ask for that too. My friend went to get one and made sure nothing bad happened to it. So we go to the register to pay. I asked for the manager. After waiting a couple of minutes, she comes out. I explained what all happened. She was apologetic and took off my portion of the food (a whopping $4). We told her the waitress probably needs re-trained. I have had some bad servers in my life, but I have never, and I mean NEVER had one that messed up my order as bad as she did. I still can't get over the fact that she picked up the tomato off of my food with her bare hands. For the record, no I DID NOT LEAVE A TIP!!! read more

With Christmas they were very, very busy but we were very pleased about the service. They had two groups of eight and most tables were full. Our waitress was great, got to us in 5 minutes, kept our coffee cups full and had our food to us as soon as it was ready. I always forget that, despite the prices, menu items and existence of a drive thru, Steak N Shake is NOT fast food. It always takes the food 15-20 minutes to come out. In addition, at this location our food came out cold, the staff was SUPER rude (rudest people I've interacted with in Indiana so far) and the food (the fries especially) was very underwhelming. I remember liking Steak N Shake when I visited Indiana for skating competitions as a kid; perhaps the quality has declined or maybe my tastes have matured. Either way I don't really think this place is better than McD's or Burger King; it certainly doesn't begin to compare to great fast food like In-N-Out. read more

Went there for dinner around 6:05pm on 7/18/16. Moderately busy. Had coupons for a dinner meal. Walked in and stood there for 10 min waiting to be waited on. This is one of the worst service steak and shakes there are around. They are very slow and it is very hard decision to make if you want to go to steak and shake. However if you go late at night and you want a milkshake through the drive-through there actually pretty dependable but if you go at lunchtime and sit down in the dining room it is not that good. So I would avoid any type of food rush times but if you go on and off time obviously it's a great place to eat. read more

Got home, opened up the food and to our surprise we found the Chili to be less than even half the container, almost no beans, almost no meat, and lots of pasta....NOT WORTH $5 a copy. She was actually very rude, and not friendly at all. Then, partway through my meal, there was hair in my food. worst shake ever !!! ordered a peanut butter banana shake from drive thru after a unusually long wait of 5 min received shake then on trip home noticed bottom of cup was leaking on pants and seat !!! to top it all off after trying shake it was runny not mixed well pb was in bottom of cup and very large banana chunks and has a kind of sour taste which was from a almost completely black and slimy over ripe banana which they decided was ok to use !!! 1st rule of a restaurant if you wouldn't eat it don't serve it to customers!!!! over all probably not going back to this location if they cant make a shake cant imagine what the rest of food is like !!! read more
