This is my second Big Wood location to visit, and overall a good experience. It's tucked away from the main drag and sits overlooking the golf course (the big, main room and connected outdoor patio both have a great view!) - but this area at least is open to the public. I was worried when we couldn't make any reservations, but we got right in - nobody was waiting, they weren't busy, but they did seem to be scrambling to find a server for us, which I thought was a little odd. After a weird start, the rest of the visit was fantastic - service was great, food was excellent, and we had a lovely time on a date night. Restrooms are on the first floor (an older review says the women's is downstairs in a creepy hallway, but this must have been renovated) and are single-occupancy and unisex, which is an interesting experience depending on who has visited before you -- this was probably the low point of the experience, that restroom could use some upkeep. Not just an unpleasant previous visitor, but structurally. For such a nice place, that part was sketchy. Definitely will be coming back overall. read more

Was t impressed but we did show up a little late , the street tacos was overpowered by what lime they are very watery I dripped sauce all on my shirt it just leaked all over before I even picked it up, the chili was the same way it was like they tried to hide the taste of the meat with over seasoning, my drink was served 2x with brown colored limes which was just not what I wanted to see in my drink, the pizza was so so but it was the highlight to the dinner. Six of us went to big Woods brewery in Franklin Indiana. The decor was rustic overlooking the golf course we sat in the bar in a huge booth. My wife and I split the fish tacos. They were absolutely delicious. One of our friends got the fish and chips which had the same fish as our tacos. He loved it. Our other friend got the personal thin crust. Margarita pizza that's her go to when we when we eat here. Another friend got the burger and split that. It's huge. They do have happy hour. I think it's 4 to 6 in which or two friends had old fashions which they loved And my wife had a couple beers. I drank the happy hour water since I was driving. I must note wine. It's not on the happy hour menu. We've eaten here many times and I can tell you that we've never been disappointed. I would recommend this place. read more

I want to like this place, because I really do like the Big Woods restaurants. but this location needs some work. The entry is not very inviting & the women's restroom is downstairs in a dark hallway. Our service was good. The waiter was friendly and our food was mostly timely. So that was a plus. The food was ok but needs some work. Our pretzel (appetizer) had a hard shell that crumbled away a bit. I guess I'm used to softer pretzels. My meal was a cauliflower crust pizza with marina, chicken, real mozzarella and arugula. I paid about $1.99 each for the last 3 toppings, so my 10" pizza was about $17. This might have been fine with good toppings, but the chicken was sparse, the "real" mozzarella was very sparse and scattered throughout regular shredded mozzarella (which I hadn't expected and the arugula was baked with the pizza. I pulled off the burnt pieces of arugula. I've had arugula on pizza several times and it is always added fresh after the baking. To top it off, my crust was way overcooked. I went on a dinner date with my dad here the other night. I've been here a few times before, buy my visit the other day I was very pleased. They were super short staffed, but the servers did everything they could to keep up. And the cooking staff must be on it because the food was quite fast also!! There is a nice view, even if you're inside, but if the weather is good I recommend outside. We tried the meatball pizza and honestly I'm usually I'm not a big fan of meat on my pizza. But these were literally sliced up meatballs and oh my gosh it was so delicious. The caramelized onions just topped it off!. I've never had caramelized onions on pizza before. Now I can say I've been to all three Big Woods locations following dinner with family over the holidays. Franklin feels like the smallest of the three (comparing to Speedway) but still has the same vibes as if I was drinking at the cabin in the wood Nashville HQ. What I like about all three is the menu is the same for drinks and food and it's not a bad view for the daytime/evening since it sits at Hillview GC. All of their flagship/seasonal beers were on tap, so of course I went with a flight for my drink (including my go tos Six Foot Strawberry Blonde & PB Knuckle). And then helped my mom consume her Bahama Mama cocktail she didn't particularly enjoy. I thought it was great! I changed up my food order and got a personal pan pizza, and no regrets with that! Service seemed super slow here. Was a little painful to endure with and trying not to compare Franklin to Speedway to Nashville. Hopefully just an off-night. read more

This was the first time we had been to the Franklin Big Woods location. It is much nicer than the other ones I've been to. It was a cold November night, but they had big fires going making it quite comfortable! Our server was maybe the best server we've ever had. He knew the menu top to bottom, checked in on us a perfect amount of times, got all of our orders correct, and was just a pleasant human. The food was also very good! I got a pizza on their thin crust which was actually Gluten Free and made with cauliflower! I've had my fair share of cauli crusts, and this one was absolutely the best. We have eaten here a couple of times when traveling through this town over the years, but tonight was extra special. Our server Breeawna seemed like a miracle worker for us several times. We had had a really bad day and several things had already gone wrong with us attempting to find a place for dinner. We called Big Woods from another location and the person who answered the phone was kind enough to get us on the list, and had a table ready for us! The menu had the kinds of choices we were looking for, and our server made sure that we got things the way we wanted them, too. This restaurant is part of the Franklin's Hillview golf/country club. There is tons of parking there. The restaurant itself is very nice. We had a large reception in a back room of the place. It was about 30 of us. The private party space is huge and has a nice view of the pool. We ordered a bunch of pizzas and they were delicious. My favorite was the Smokehouse Pizza. The breadsticks were pretty good too. They have so many cool items on the menu. I will have to come back and try them soon. There is outdoor seating, but it was too cold while I was there to partake in any outdoor festivities. The staff was very friendly. The drinks are delicious. Waitress was friendly and came back frequently to check on us and refill drinks. Fish and chips was nice portion, moist fish with crunchy batter. I really wish I could leave a better review, because I love their food and it's one of the few places in town with outdoor seating. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get seated. Last night there was a family in front of me who had been waiting at the host stand because they'd been told the kitchen was behind 30 minutes. And I understand that, but I don't know why you couldn't seat people so they could have a drink and relax. I was just one person, and no one was coming to the host stand, so I went to the bar and asked about seating for one outside. He said someone would be out to seat me; there were plenty of open spots outside, and the bar side wasn't busy at all. But no one ever showed up; I ended up leaving because this isn't the first time I've seen the host stand go unattended and people standing there being ignored. read more

This place is a decent little spot. Interior is cute, and the road you have to drive up is cute. The food isn't worth more than a 10 minute drive. We got a few appetizers to share and were a bit disappointed. The nachos weren't very good, especially since the shredded cheese they use only covers the top of the nachos. The cheese bread is just not worth the money; very clearly reheated and not very tasty. For the entree I got the Mac and cheese with steak tips. The steak was great, but the macaroni and cheese was quite bland. It actually tastes exactly like the Mac and cheese from the kids menu. If I had known that I would have just gotten the kids meal! For dessert we had the Italian crème cake which was tasty, but again did not taste like it was made from scratch. They have a nice variety of different beers, which all were great! For the money, the best views you can find anywhere along the 65 interstate in Indiana. I've driven north to Chicago and south to Louisville many times, and this is by far the nicest place off the interstate where you don't need to spend much money for a million dollar view. The food and drink are exactly what you expect from a Big Woods, great pizza, great wings, great nachos, all for brewery prices. You won't find any disappointment in the food, service or value. You won't be marveled by gourmet food but you will be very satisfied by the ambiance! Apparently the clubhouse for the country club had limited success in the past running a good kitchen, and it became the perfect collaboration with Big Woods. I typically live Bigwoods! Unfortunately this time, I ordered the nachos which were delicious, however my sister and her fiancé ordered brew burgers and ended up getting very sick for the next 24 hours. We were towards the end of the night and wonder if the food was reheated for convenience. My sisters bridal shower was the next morning and caused lots of problems for us. This isn't our first time here and unfortunately left us feeling uneasy to return. read more

Really enjoyed our experience at Big Woods. Our server, Maddie, was so sweet and attentive. We were bummed that our beer choice, Hu Dang, was out. But we went with the other IPA choice instead. We ordered the smokehouse pizza on the hand tossed crust. Honestly not sure if there was chicken on there, however it was amazing either way. My only complaint, is that the staff did NOT follow face mask compliance. Our waitresses masks was entirely too big, her nose and mouth were exposed the entire time and even the host had her mask at her chin. This was my first time trying out Big Woods. A few weeks ago we visited Hard Truth, which is their sister store (see previous Yelp review). This location was a little different. I was confused when I first pulled in because there was a sign for a Country Club and a tiny sign for Big Woods. I wasn't sure where to enter. I hope they fix their signage so people know if they are entering Big Woods or the Country Club because I wasn't sure. The food was really good! I will definitely be back for the food (see pictures posted of what we ordered). The truffle fries and shrimp tacos were my personal favorite! They have a really nice outdoor patio overlooking the golf course that I would like to check out once the weather gets nicer. Overall the food was good but it had a Country Club Vibe to it. Unless I am in Franklin, I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here. 4 out of 5 stars because of the confusing entrance and the location is out of the way for me. read more

Struck down by under-cooked chicken *insert sad cowboy emoji here* Big Woods is a nice place with nice people. The hosting and service staff were great. The view of the golf course is sweeping and the building itself is just nifty. Out for a birthday celebration, we ordered a wings to share as an appetizer and drinks to get us started. The beer selection is fantastic and I would be happy to only ever have Hard Truth's coconut rum as the rum in my life going forward. Unfortunately, the wings came out and were barely warm on the outside and completely cold on the inside. They looked great but they had to have been pre-cooked, frozen, and then placed under a heating lamp. The server was able to get those replaced for us but then one of the other staff members said that our server was going to have to pay for what our table returned. If your cooks aren't up to snuff, your servers shouldn't have to literally pay for their mistakes. Also, of all the things to mess up and serve cold or under-cooked, chicken moves the needle from gross to dangerous. Family of five, we visited yesterday (Saturday) around 4:30 for an early dinner. 15 minutes to get seated, we got seated in an EMPTY room, no one big party had left so I can't tell you why it took 15 minutes. In fact, no one had left in the time we waited. Our server was a joke, from start to finish. The hostess that seated us was chewing gum (isn't this restaurant on the premises of a country club?). They were completely out of anything with fish, and anything with steak (at 5 o'clock!). We ordered the bbq nachos which were gross (I recommend la margarita in dwntwn Indy for good nachos) with the kind of shredded cheese that is stiff, room temp and therefore flavorless by the time you eat it. Any vegetables (red onion, jalapeños) we're not cooked just used as a raw topping so there's no developed flavor. We ordered our main course and got it after a party of 9 that had been seated after we got our appetizer! Absolutely nothing on the menu takes much time to cook (burgers/pizza/basic American food) so again, can't tell you why. Then, my kid received what looked like an adult sized main course salad when we ordered the children's side salad, he dropped it off and left us with no utensils. I got the spicy bacon ranch burger (see photo) that had a sad dollop of ranch in the center with a small handful of plain fries. Also, can I point out that you'll be charged for subbing the fries (as it states but I asked to be sure) for anything else, EVEN if the other side is the SAME price as the fries on the sides menu!!! Needless to say I didn't touch the fries (again, see photos). And again, they don't cook the jalapeños on the burger so there's on basic spicy flavor (I encourage them to consult culinary professionals, semi professionals, or even culinary students who can teach them how to get the most flavor out of the ingredients they use) which I took out. My husband had to get up twice to ask get napkins and more utensils for my other kids Mac n cheese (bland, even for kids). And to top it off, I had to go back in because we left my kids hat inside. I walk in to a hostess and our server complaining (the hostess used profanity) about the pile I made in the middle of the table from our appetizer plate and the napkins and little plates used to share the appetizer. One, I made it to see if the server would get the hint to keep the table clear before serving our main course. Second, who is training these employees?! How does a server not pick up used plates throughout the meal?!! Again, see the photos. Lastly, I'd like to end by saying we've been to the Bid Woods establishment in Brown County, many times, it's the only place we'll eat when visiting. It really is a different place, delicious, too notch service, so I'm not sure if the Franklin location is under different ownership but we are never going back. Big Woods is off of 65 in Franklin, IN and is located as the bar/restaurant of a golf course/country club. Because of that, it's overpriced for what it is (although their beer was reasonably priced). My husband quite liked his chicken sandwich but was served old fries as his side (you know how you can tell that the fries you're eating at 3 were made at noon?). The filling of my chicken tacos was decent but the corn tortillas arrived split down the middle; my side of corn was very yummy though. The ambience is nice - there's a wall of windows looking off into the golf course. There seems to be nice deck seating although it was too cold to sit outside when we were there. read more

We stopped in here on our way through Franklin for dinner. I had the mac n' cheese, which lacked salt and didn't come with the garlic-infused breadcrumbs the menu touted. When I asked about them, I was told they were too burnt to include with the meal. It was a small amount of sub-par pasta for which they wanted $14. My husband had the spicy bacon burger, which, as it's name suggests, was very spicy. However, the spice completely overtook every other flavor. My son did enjoy his kid's Mac and service was quick, but the food was not nearly good enough to demand its price, so we will not be back. read more

I've been frequenting Big Woods at various locations over the last five years. I've had mediocre to decent experiences, but always based my experience on the fact the wait staff was young, however the experience that my family and I had tonight was sad across the board. We reserved our table for 8, and then found we had 9. The accommodated 9 people with seating but that is where it stopped. They brought drinks super late, did not continue to check on waters or beer. Our food was brought out cold. It was horrible. Sadly this was an event to celebrate my boyfriend's promotion. We stayed a little past ordering food. Our waitress didn't check on us for over 30 minutes. We had to clear our own glasses from our table to make room for moor plates. We even had to find another server to get a to go box for mor mediocre pizza. This place has gone down hill. Bad very very bad. Three times I had to sweep our table of plates/glasses because our waitress did not understand how to clear a table. I just kept clearing dishes to the bar. This is completely wrong. read more

Was in town for a work event and the hotel recommended this place to come and eat. The food portions were really big and made sharing with others very easy! The staff and everyone was a little friendly as well. Added to my list of places to go again when I'm back in town. It's really sad to see how downhill this place has gone. The food was absolutely inedible. We ordered the pulled pork nachos and they were either spoiled or just over seasoned with thyme but even the smell was not right. When our meals came we had two orders of pulled pork sandwiches which were extremely over salted, a chicken sandwich which was very dry and bland, kids pizza which even was horrible, kids Mac n cheese that looks like it was just the very cheap velveeta Mac n cheese you buy from the grocery, and then the red chicken curry which was absolutely horrible. I would not recommend getting food at this place. After reading other reviews, I looked into the health department reports and I can't believe how this place is still open. Disgusting!!!! read more
