I don't have very high expectations for fast food places. Despite my low expectations, the whole experience for me at this location last Sunday was sub-par. I've been to other Steak 'n Shakes so I know it's not the norm, but for this specific location I've now had 2 out of 2 trips fall flat. We went through the drive thru and there was a long line, so we put on some tunes and waited it out. The menu online said that there were chili cheese dogs and when I got up to order they said they had never served such a thing. It's all good. I still wanted a hot dog, even without chili cheese on it. We also ordered a cheese burger. We got home and the bread was nearly inedible. I tried to get past the hardness of the buns, but after 2 bites I just took threw away the bread and ate the meat. The staff was very friendly. The fries were good. The large drinks are definitely large. So mostly it was a good experience, except for the main dish. I would give it 5 stars for everything else, but the fact that both times I've gone I've had bad experiences with my main entree - I have to give it 3 stars. read more

We use to enjoy Steak and Shake but this location in Franklin is terrible. Our order was underwhelming both in taste and visual appeal. Pattie's barely warm. Lettuce was dry and looked dirty. Only item that was actually good were the onion rings. Too bad because we really enjoyed stopping in for burgers. There are just too many other options now in the area that it is no longer worth coming to Steak and Shake for such poor quality food. read more

Update from last review It was Horrible service we had last time i was never coming back. (See my last review.) My grandsons wanted to try it once more so I said ok. Its been 11 min since we sat down and no contact. 15 min she took our drink and food order Wow this place must have no clue. We got our food 35 min after being seated. Not as bad as last time But the milkshake my grandson's order is not here. There was one waitress. Who was not only waiting tables but checking people out also. I told her never mind with the milkshake. She said they started it if I change my mind. This is 30 min after ordering it. I got it to go. Steak n shake needs to read their yelp reviews. Walked in, no signs anywhere. Stood in lobby, no one greeted. Finally another customer told us we had to order at kiosk. Never been to a SnS like this. They called my # and half the order not there. Couldn't get anyone to answer a question. Finally a ?manager in a tie came over and told me that shakes couldn't be made on the grill (really?). Finally he went to get our shakes. As soon as I sat down with food they brought out a sign that told you what to do when you come in. Time marches on. Seasons change. Managers come and go. Service is still *CONSISTENTLY* terrible. Stopped in tonight, because we had out of town guests, who wanted to go. Were seated immediately, and then ... proceeded to sit there for 20 minutes with no one even stopping by to take a drink order, let alone our actual order. After 20 minutes, we finally decided to go elsewhere. I stopped by the register on the way out, as the newest manager was there. I'll give her props as an improvement over her predecessors. Unlike the others, who have never seemed to care, she was apologetic, and asked where we were seated, so she would know which server to address the issue with. I waited in the line for 25 minutes. I ordered the meal I order almost every time I go: a footling chili cheese dog with a side of fries. Normally I pay about $4.36. Today I was charged $5.45. The guy working the window couldn't tell me if the price had recently gone up when I asked. I've ordered it over a dozen times, and it's never been over $5. It's a dollar so I just shrug it off and head home. I get home and find out my fry container was barely half full, and my fries were hard and cold as if I were given fries made much earlier in the day. My hotdog was much tougher and drier than normal, so I assume it too was either over cooked or old. Of course I wasn't given a receipt. I've had many bad experiences here including a two hour wait that ended with cold food. I refuse to spend money at this location in the future. I love Steak 'n Shake, but this is the worst location. Why we continue to come to this location I really don't know. Today was the last straw. No greeting when we walked in. Waitress was terrible. Never checked on us one time. I had to track someone down for napkins because the food was so greasy. The women's bathroom was disgusting! Trash in floor,feces on toilet bowl, no TP. I told the waitress its gross in there and her reply was, "oh yes, no one really ever goes in there to clean". When we paid our bill at the counter, the girl never smiled, nor asked how things were. Went there for lunch yesterday with my parents as I needed somewhere close to work as I only get an hour. Must say that I was apprehensive after it took a few minutes to be sat. They appeared to only have 3 people running tables, bar top, and cashier despite it being 12:00pm. Our server was friendly and got our orders at the greet. She got us in and out, orders right, and smiled the entire time despite being what to many would be overwhelming hectic time running over 5 tables. My husband just went by Steak & Shake on Carruthers in Brentwood, TN -- Placed orders for 2 hamburgers. One was to have onions, pickles, lettuce & tomatoes - no mayo, mustard, or ketchup. The other was to have mayo, pickles, onion, tomato. Got home with the order, and neither was right. My hamburger had mayo slathered all over it and no lettuce. This has to be the slowest most uncaring Steak-n-Shake I have every been to. As I sat at the counter with only three other tables occupied in the place at 8pm I waited 18 minutes to be asked for my order. My order was first on the display then 6 others came in. It took the cook until my counter had reached 7 minutes to notice there were orders. Now my timer is at 16 minutes and nothing yet. He did take time out however to empty the grease trap with the same spatchula he uses to cook with about halfway through the orders. Wow. read more

A month ago, my wife and I met here for my lunch hour, which, because of the ineptitude and ignorance of the management and staff at this restaurant, turned into my lunch two-hour. I was upset about the wait, but the food was good and, at the time, I chalked up my experience to a busy day combined with being short-staffed. Boy, was I wrong. Today, once again, my lunch hour doubled. After 40 minutes, the manager came over to take our order. The real problem was that a member of the wait staff had already taken our order! The manager then said, "I'll have her put in your order right now." Uh, no. We're leaving, and we will most certainly not be back. The only remnant of an apology issued was something along the lines of, "We're short staffed." Listen...I can understand being short staffed, but when you are, you need to take preventative measures such as warning your customers about the wait, and MAKING SURE YOU PUT THEIR ORDERS INTO THE SYSTEM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. read more

Terrible!! Waited in the drive thru for 15 minutes with the car in front of us... that should've been the first sign of bad news. We made the mistake of being patient and given the staff the benefit of the doubt; when we drove up to the order intercom, a woman told us "I'll be with you when I can..." We needed a moment to decide our order anyway so 5 minutes later we announce "We're ready to order" and there was no answer. We call out again, "Hello? Are you there?" Silence. This place is ridiculously slow. I have been in the drive thru almost 10 min and still haven't ordered. If I didn't like their fries so much I would leave like all the other cars seem to be doing. Update: 25 min in line total. Watched others hand food back to drive thru and pull over to take food back inside that I guess was incorrect. The only issue I have with SnS is that everything, including the drive-thru, takes FOREVER. Had dinner there and food was fair. I am writing this review because of an employee that served us by the name of Jason. He is the nicest waiter I have ever experienced. You know sometimes how you run across someone that comes across as honest and genuine, this is the guy. He was very polite and went above and beyond. My 13 year old also made a comment that floored me, he said " Jason makes me happy" I know that is weird but you have to meet this guy. he is an amazing individual. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This place has some of the worst service I have ever experienced in a fast food chain. No server had a smile on their face, and as we walked in the door we were greeted by a male and female server trash talking each other ON THE FLOOR very loudly. They were being petty and accusing each other of trash talking and the female very loudly declared she didn't need to pull him "to the back" to say what she needed to say. Strike one. We waited by the door while several servers just looked at us and around the store and at each other. Nobody, not even the server who eventually sat us, said hello or even smiled at us to acknowledge that we had arrived. Strike two. Finally, a server (the one who had been arguing with the male server when we walked in) approached us and begrudgingly sat us down at a table and promptly left. She arrived a few minutes later and simply looked at us. I said hello to her and she just poised her pen. We gave her our orders but I suppose she was entirely checked out for the day because she didn't get my husband's order correct. After she took our orders, we literally did not see her again until my husband was finishing his re-ordered entree. Absolutely abysmal service. The food expeditor was being more of a waitress than our actual waitress. Strike three. On top of all that mess, it took them almost thirty minutes to prepare our food and then another 10 minutes for my husband's reorder. That is horrendously long for Steak n Shake. Even at the busiest of busiest, I have NEVER waited more than 15 minutes for my food. Strike FOUR. The entire time we were at the restaurant, all you heard was the servers literally trash talking each other across the restaurant or talking about their personal lives ACROSS THE RESTAURANT. The servers couldn't get any orders correct, as I heard several customers complain about the atrocious speed of service and missing items from orders. I was a steak n shake virgin until this past year. I really enjoyed my first time and have been a big fan of it every since. This location sits right outside of a rowdy bar so of course it is popular late at night and the chef JOJO will prepare pretty much anything you want---go ahead get creative you know you want to. I stuck with pretty basic burger with cheese mushrooms onions and it was juicy and hot and oh so good. Make sure you keep some napkins handy because you will get a little on your face. read more

Unlike its sister location in Antioch, the service here is actually really good, though there have been one or two bad service experiences when my fiance and I visited, but I feel it was mostly due to them being overwhelmed with customers. That being said the food is always good and fresh, and the staff is really nice and always ready with suggestions. Often the location is packed with high school students during the school year but only occasionally does the level of service suffer. While the health value of the food can be questioned, they have some of the best waiters and waitresses I have encountered at any restaurant here and my fiance and I often return for their good food and excellent service at a low price. My only complaint is they had a waitress who once miss-read what I wrote down for a tip, and refused to correct it. However, I have not seen her working their since that incident. read more

Just went there for a shake and paid with a debit card. I asked for a reciept becausr all they give you is an order reciept showing what you order. I was told by Maleya that they dont print out reciepts which is a lie. If they can print out an order reciept then they can print out a reciept of what I paid. She finally went and got thr manager who was very annoyed that I asked and she printed out one just fine which again confirms the lie. So how many people are they ripping off by not giving reciepts? This is a very shady practice as the customer has no idea if they were charged correctly or not and cannot prove charges without a reciept. I will NOT be going to this steak and shake and will be plastering this practice on social media. None of the other SNS do this so it lets me know that something funny is going on. This practice is very shady. then when I called to survey hotline to complain they somehow thought it was funny. Well I bet the Attorney Generals office wont find it funny. Crappy drive thru service. Literally waited at the order machine for 10 minutes before I spoke up and the lady taking orders (her name was Hannah) told me "one minute". Not even a simple greeting coming up to the drive thru. Terrible first impression. 10 more minutes and two more cars getting served, before my girlfriend finally spoke up and got her damn attention. Finally our order was taken. Writing this review as I'm looking through the drive thru window and see multiple employees goofing off. I'd usually cut a busy business like this some slack but they obviously care more about joking with their friends than they do serving customers. I've been a manager before. 30 minutes drive thru wait? WHAT A JOKE. NEVER have I seen such a DYSFUNCTIONAL STORE! NO THANK YOU. I hope these employees get RETRAINED or FIRED!!!!! I went to this location on a Friday afternoon after leaving the Hospital across the street. I got home and was missing 4 cookies that I had added to the order and paid for. Figured oh well the food was good and it was a large order for 4 people. Mistakes happen. Course I did have to wait an extremely long time to order then was asked to pull up to the end of the building so I could now wait even longer. On Sunday (2 days later) I left the hospital and thought I would try again. When I got to the window I mentioned to an older woman there about the cookies after handing her my credit card. She asked for my receipt from Friday, I told her I wasn't even sure if I was ever given 1. She asked me if I called them once I discovered the problem....Umm no we wanted to eat our food not debate why cookies were missing. She then told me she had no way of knowing if I was even telling the truth. . Okay so now I'm a liar over $2 for cookies..I told her to hand me my card back, cancel my order and then I left. I drove almost 30 minutes into Nashville ordered food from Burger King and went home. Vowing never to return to Steak and Shake again. Later that night I noticed something on my online bank statement. Steak and Sheak Charged my Credit Card for food they NEVER provided (The Sunday order) AND it was ahcraged at almost the exact same moment Burger King was charging me for my order. I had left Steak and Shake , told them to cancel the order and THEN some 30 minutes later I get charged for a canceled order. Can we say CREDIT CARD FRAUD? Well thats what my credit card company said I contacted Steak and Steal (Shake) corporate and was told several times over a 2 week period (Proof can even be seen on Facebook) that 1st that was NOT the way they did Business and the matter was being taken to upper management and someone would contact me in 3 days or less. I'm not sure how many times 3 days fits into 2 weeks but oh well. Finally after contacting them and threatening to contact the BBB I filed with my credit card company and almost at week 3 a "manager" from the location called. She was rude and my guess was she was the womqan at the window that Sunday. The woman who charged my card 30 minutes AFTER I canceled the order and left. She demanded proof of the charge, I took a screen shot of that part of my statement and sent it to her (and also showed how I was charged at the exact same time Burger king charged me 30 minutes away). She then demanded proof about the cookies, told her I had no proof as I made the mistake of paying cash. She never said we're sorry , we'll get back to you . She just said ok send me the proof and I will look into it. That was the last I ever heard from these people. My credit card company did issue me a refund as the location had failed to provide any proof I ever received anything and never explained how was I charged by 2 different fast food places at the sametime almost 20 miles apart from each other? If you ever and I mean EVER use a debit or credit card here I would STRONGLY suggest you check your statement for fraudulent charges . Heck the mall isnt far away , you never know what might show up on your charge card without your knowledge. Thats how crooks operate~ read more
