I will say that the food is pretty good, BUT, the service is terrible, and the place is dirty. My shoes stuck to the floor, and the tables hadn't been wiped. My beverage was not brought immediately, and I had no napkins or silverware until they brought my plate. When my plate was delivered, it was dropped over the center ledge, not even placed before me. LAZY!!! I had to wait for my check, and then there was nobody who could be bothered to take my money at the register. I ended up just leaving it because I was now late to get back to work. Went here last night. Walked in and immediately noticed place was packed and several tables had people with menus who hadn't ordered. Also noticed several tables full of people with drinks and no food. Those people looked very frustrated. Only 2 workers in the front of the house, both taking orders, seating people, bussing tables. Sat down against my better judgment. Actually ordered quickly, then sat there and watched trays of food pile up in the window. Saw one large order sit there for a solid 10 minutes before one of the two waiters/busboys/managers finally grabbed it. Figured they would come back and grab the other 5 or 6 orders sitting there, but that didn't happen. Food just sat there for another 5 minutes. I went to the bathroom, the floor was flooded from a leaking urinal. Went back to table, grabbed wife and got the F out of there. Told waitress/manager/busboy/plumber to get her shit together and that we were leaving never to return again. read more

My husband and I had the worst service here a few weeks ago. Food is always good, but service is horrible. It took them forever to seat us (although there were several open tables), forever to wait on us (although several tables that came in after us were waited on first), and then we watched our food sit up in the little window getting cold for quite awhile while all the tables who came in after us enjoyed their dinners. I used to think this was decent for a fast food place but the service is getting worse and worse. The night staff have trouble taking orders or ignore drive-through customers completely. The semi truck that delivers their food sometimes completely blocks the drive through during business hours. (There is a huge parking lot - he could easily leave space for cars to get through.) Last but not least, I ordered a salad, and as I was mixing in the dressing, I found a plastic bag at the bottom- wtf? There are 2 other burger places in the same parking lot - I would try those instead. read more

My goodness it was 8:30 when I got to the drive through I didn't order until 8:40 and then I didn't get my food until 8:55. Sad thing was that I was only behind four cars. A drive through is meant to be fast not so damn slow. Either find a way to staff the location properly rather than understaffing it like it has been for awhile, or don't have a drive thru at all. When you first see the building.. whether it is through the drive thru or eating in, it almost looks like it is a poorly run restaurant but when you get closer you see how bright and energetic it is inside, a diner-style-sit-down service. The decor of this restaurant is how a diner in the 50's would look like. If you are there on the weekend, you will see how crowded it is, but it also depends on the location. There are usually groups of people at a booth. If you are in a group you don't have to worry about not having enough space because the booths are evenly spaced out. You can see a variety of people here, from as young as 5 years old to as old as 70 years old! I went on a Saturday night with my sister and her boyfriend. When you walk in, there is a sign that says "Please Wait To Be Seated" so I looked around to see if there were any booths open, there were a couple but they needed to be cleaned. It was a busy night so it took a while for someone to acknowledge that we were waiting. A waiter finally came up to us and said "I'll be with you in just a second" It didn't take long, he came back in a minute and got us seated. It was on a snowy freezing night, so he warned us to be careful since the floors were slippery, that was really generous of him. Once I was seated I started looking at the menu, Whenever I go to Steak 'n Shake, I always get the same thing, so this time I wanted to get something different! I just didn't know what yet. The menu is considered of Signature Steak Franks (hot dogs), steak burgers, salads, sandwiches, milkshakes and sides for inexpensive prices. I didn't know what I was getting yet so I didn't bother looking at the prices. There was a section that stood out to me "24 meals under $4" the thing was.. after looking at that section of the menu I wasn't really craving any of the choices. So, I started looking at the rest of the menu and I finally found something that caught my attention and literally made my mouth water. Our waiter came over and asked if we were ready to order. Yes we were, I got a Jalapeno Crunch Steakburger with a side a fries and a Very Berry Strawberry milkshake, my sister got a Single Bacon Cheese Steakburger with a side a fries and an Oreo milkshake and my sister's boyfriend got The Original Double 'N Cheese Steakburger with a side a fries and a Strawberry milkshake. The food was made in about 10-15 minutes which I think was really good timing considering how busy they were. One thing I like about Steak 'n Shake is that they wait till everyone's order is ready to bring out your food, instead of one person starting to eat before the other, your group of people can all start at the same time. They also bring out your milkshake beforehand so it doesn't lose it's flavor. Our server was really kind and was always checking up on us and asking if we needed anything else. He made sure we were satisfied. We definitely were. The Jalapeno Crunch Steakburger (seasoned on their fiery hot grill, topped with pepper jack cheese, salsa, sliced jalapenos, and chipotle mayo) looked really messy and when I took the first bite I didn't really taste anything. I had to look hard to pick out the salsa which sort of blended with the chipotle mayo.. But then on my second bite, that's when I could taste everything. Such a great tasting burger, the sliced jalapeno's gave the burger so much more flavor and made it taste x10 more better. I really like how we get fries on the side and we don't have to pay extra for them, they are already included in the meal which is a really great deal. But the fries we got didn't really taste like anything. I ate my fries with ketchup but it didn't really taste like anything to me, I'm thinking it was because I ate them when they weren't fresh anymore or because I was already full. The milkshake was one of the best milkshakes I've ever drank, I could taste the strawberries every time I took a sip and it was mixed very very well. It was my sister and her boyfriend's first time eating at Steak 'n Shake and I know they really enjoyed it. They were surprised at how big the cups for the milkshakes are and how much they give you! The outstanding work of our waiter really made this a pleasant visit for us. The food was very fulfilling and delicious! You definitely get what you paid for. This is a really good place to go with friends or family if you're looking for somewhere to eat that's not too pricey. I would highly recommend this to others. read more

Was recently there last night, service was HORRIBLE menus were never brought to us. We had to order at the front because server never showed up. When food was brought to us, it was brought in a bag... If we wanted it to go we would have went through the drive thru. Food was then brought out again on a plate, only problem was that it was smooshed and cold from the bag. Never going back there again. Manager and server were VERY rude as well. read more

I love steak n shake. It is better than the other fastfood places and cheaper as well. Just what we wanted the other night when we decided to grab a quick bite after shopping. It was busy I agree but the service was horrible. Our server took our order right away and then told us it would be a long time since she had to clean tables as well as take orders. Fare enough warning but I doubt she ever put our order in. People who came after us had their meals within 15mins. I then look over to the other tables our server was waiting on and they had nothing as well. You would have thought management would have pitched in and helped out but they ignored the situation and people were angry . As to why they did nothing is beyond me but after 30 mins and not even water on the table we left. If only we had seen our server we would have reminded her that we were there to eat and not watch other's eat, but she forgot us and we never saw her again nor did we see a manager. It was chaotic. been goin here for ages. service is great at the drive thru. tried their spicy chicken sandwich last night and it's pretty good for fast food. had it with the blue cheese and asked for extra blue cheese and sauces at no additional charge! it's no chick fila, but definitely gives Wendy's Spicy chicken sandwich a run for the money..had it with the black raspberry chocolate chip shake which is now my favorite or the Nutella shake. read more

Horrible manager and dirty restaurant.. Had to wait 5 minutes at the register after meal. Employees were all over the place but not one acknowledged the three-deep line. Finally the manager (sloppy and dirty) came out (he was chewing so I guess we interrupted his meal) and looked annoyed. The gentleman in line in front of me greeted the manager happily. The manager did not reply, did not smile, and did not say a single word. Didn't even thank the guy for his order. Now it was my turn to pay. He did not look at me, did not say a thing just reached his hand out (just a little), and he barely touched touched the receipt and dropped it in the bin. No big deal. Then he finally spoke, but just to say 13.65. I handed him my credit card, but boy he did not want to reach more than two inches so i stretched ro give him my card. Not sure why but he was so annoyed and started muttering to himself in an annoyed tone. Then instead of handing the recipt and my card back to me, he put the receipt on the orher side of the register and said "sign it." No, "No how was your meal?" or "Thank you for coming in." in addition, the restaurant was a mess. Dirty, uncleared tables. Our table was wiped after we sat down and the waitress wiped so crumbs fell into our laps. My daughter ordered, "May I please have a hamburger" and the waitress did not understand and asked me if she meant "steak burger.". Really? The waitress gave us napkin rolled Fork and knife that had chili on it. The fries were unbelievably greasy (I don't think they shook the basket). My daughters shake did not come until she was half way through with her meal and the shake we ordered to go never came. I have been eating at steak and shake for 40 years in various states and love the food and service...this was unbelievable to me. I cannot believe the would hire a manger like this. read more
