If I could rate this 3.5 I would but staff friendliness tipped it to a 4. I love BBQ. This place however was only ok. I almost felt like the bbq pork and brisket came from boiled water. It was ok but honestly disappointed. The sauce was surprisingly not great either. It seemed like it was made starch to thicken it. I liked the greens a beans but have had much better. I liked the pickle bar. Best things were, the staff. Women who took my order was very nice and gave me a sample of brisket. The place looks like I'd expect a bbq place to look. read more

We have stopped at this City Barbeque several times on our way through town after visiting my daughter. I have never had a bad time at City Barbeque... our food is always delicious and the employees are always helpful, smiling and nice. The restaurant is clean and I think we have tried almost everything on the menu. My favorite is the smoked turkey. I always bring some home to enjoy for a few days. And then there were only 2 left in the state. Sadly the one by me in Downers Grove has closed, as did the others, with Park Ridge holding on as well. I had planned a pastrami sandwich day, and was bummed when Park Ridge was out. Took the drive north for my fix. It was very lean but still had good flavor and I added a little heat with their Brushfire sauce. Creamy Coleslaw paired nicely and you can help yourself to a pile of pickles. I do not know how this place only has 3.5 stars. I know BBQ tastes vary, but I have never met anyone who did not at least like, if not love, Memphis style. This place comes very close to my favorite Memphis places. The turkey was GREAT. The ribs were awesome. The chicken was great and the pulled pork was delicious. At work this is one of our go to spots for lunch. We pick up and bring back to the office and these guys are always have our food ready when we walk in. Love the more cowbell sandwhich! Perfect balance of flavors and the brisket is always on point. Im not a big horseradish guy so I order this one without it. If everything is so good then you must be asking why I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 star review well... its the bbq chicken. For me this was disappointing. Had a weird texture almost rubber like in certain spots. Lacked the flavor you expect in bbq chicken. Overall not good for my bbq pallet. Will I be ordering here again....of course I will!! I want to update my review to 5 stars after the delicious catering spread we served at our Bourbon-Rye-Scotch whisky tasting. We had to provide a substantial meal prior to the tasting, right? We dug into tender beef brisket, pulled chicken, vegetarian green beans, mac and cheese, and the piece de resistance, warm peach cobbler with whipped cream. Our order, we placed the week before, was ready for pickup, packed nicely with plates, napkins, utensils, serving implements, bread, and several flavors and spice of bbq sauce. Our guests enjoyed the tender brisket and smoked pulled chicken. The beans, without bacon, were still very flavorful with onion and seasoning. Though hardly anyone touched the bread, they raved about the Mac and cheese. This was a good and hearty option, our guests enjoyed the food, there are plenty of leftover, and best of all, after a busy week, there wasn't much for me to do. Came for lunch to find out they do not have brisket available until 5pm. Also, I tried to order their Frank's chicken dip, but at 1pm, they were already out? They made a new batch, which took only 10 minutes, but what I got was chunks of dark meat chicken with Frank's hot sauce pour on top. The chicken was not shredded and there was barely any sauce on the chicken. Taste was horrible! I tried using their online ordering app to take advantage of $5 off. Solid choice for barbeque in the area. The restaurant itself is clean and decorated nicely with plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a meal. Service is quick and friendly from the counter though it can be difficult at times to find the correct person when they call out names for the order. They provide lots of different sauce options here though I would like a bit more contrast between the different options as the combinations feel a bit similar for me -- generally skewing a bit more towards the sweet side overall and not too acidic. You can find all your favorite meats here and the common sides, though there aren't really options that feel particularly special here. The prices are fairly good here, in the mid to lower side -- with plenty of combination options to keep the price per person lower as well. The food itself is fairly enjoyable. The meats are fairly tender though it can be a bit dry without barbeque sauce. The sausage for me was smoked nicely, though I didn't find the smoked turkey to be as good. The beef brisket was quite tender though not very juicy. The sides like the hush puppies and texas toast were done fairly well and complimented the entree nicely. Overall, reasonably priced choice for barbeque with a good number of meat and side options available. The flavors aren't the most amazing, but good enough to satisfy a barbeque craving. read more

Huge shout out to the lovely Deerfield City BBQ cashier, she was so helpful to everyone in line and took the extra effort to made sure they took advantage off their City BBQ Awards and coupons! I came during their 25th anniversary celebration and picked up their special pork and chicken sandwich. Definitely a solid BBQ option for the area, I've been here a few times and it's always been good. I also like the nice variety of sauces. Carry out was pretty fast even without doing an online order ahead of time. Even if you don't come here often it is still with it to get the app to take advantage of the deals they do offer. An easy location to get to as well a its on the corner of a strip mall with multiple entrances. My husband and I met a friend at City Barbeque for dinner on a Saturday night. There was a nice crowd when we arrived but we didn't have to wait in line too long to order. All of the meat is smoked on site overnight. We ordered the city sampler to split between us. There was enough food for both of us. It came with sausage, pulled pork, turkey, brisket, and two sides. We chose macaroni and cheese and hush puppies as our sides. The meat was juicy and tender but the flavor was largely forgettable. The macaroni and cheese was good and creamy but I found the just puppies to be dry. We got a good value for our money with the sampler. I recommend City Barbeque for good barbeque food. read more

First off this business makes a good effort to be charitable and part of the community. They also are extremely appreciative of U.S. military veterans. Veterans always get a thank you, a good discount, and free food on veterans' day. The staff is all very friendly and do everything they can to make everyone's visit pleasant. On this visit Dillon remembered me from my last visit and took the opportunity to help me again, he is great. The food is not fast food quality at all even though it is faster. The food is better than most high end restaurants. Everything they serve is top notch. Ambiance is nice, plenty of space and cool things to look at. Bathroom is spotless. There isn't enough I can say about the employees at City Barbeque on a Sunday! The weather is beautiful, its a day of rest and these folks are working hard. I wanted to take the time to thank the whole team at city barbeque today; Scott was the first person I saw and was prompt to let me know when he would be helping me and made the experience smooth. Jen, Justin and the Manager Tatie were all working very hard along side each other with great energy and always stayed focused on providing the highest and best quality service. Malik is the main man in the back cooking up all the delicious meats and sides for us today. Thank you Malik! Meanwhile, Issac is making sure that all of the products inside the restaurant are pristine and readily available to all customers. If the food wasn't enough reason alone to come here, the team here on Sunday is definitely the reason I will be coming back. Since this is the o my bbq place near me it's what I've grown dependent on. I come once a month maybe for the last two years and this place is reliably always out of one of their meats by 5 pm, usually the turkey or biscuit, which makes me wonder why they have not realized this and corrected by now. The food is fine for what you pay, for me the sticking point is that they're always running out. You'd think if they ran out of one meat they'd forgo the upcharge for biscuit. read more

This place is awesome. A great solid go to BBQ place. I'm now going once a week as a treat to myself. Portion sizes are excellent (especially with the chicken), so it's also a great value. Today I tried their cole slaw for the first time, and I'm quite confident it's the best cole slaw I ever had. Ribs are solid. I recommend going with the brush fire sauce, as it's the right amount of heat. However, I'm a tad disappointed it's made with high fructose corn syrup. Another mild disappointment is the baked bean, as they're a bit too sweet. Overall, City BBQ is a great value, with very above average food, and generous portion sizes. read more

The pulled pork was tender and juicy, the sausage had a nice flavor, the beans were very good with large chunks of brisket, and the Texas toast was pretty tasty. The service was good with our food arriving very quickly and the gentleman behind the counter fixing an issue with the soda machine as soon as we brought it to his attention. I wish I would've seen the yelp reviews before ordering smh. Everything here is highly mediocre. There's no real cheese or cream or seasoning in the macaroni , no real butter on the Texas toast .... The peach cobbler recipe clearly didn't come from Grandma in the south.. there wasn't enough brown sugar and the breading wasn't consistent or the right consistency.... Sigh. Been a long time since I've been to a City BBQ and it was really good. Always nice to get a different style lunch quickly although prices have definitely increased in those years. This establishment is relatively new with a good amount of parking available. Inside was clean as well as the bathrooms. Never had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich before and it was super good. Not spicy at all which was disappointing but adding the brushfire sauce to it helped. Super juicy chicken with creamy Cole slaw! My husband got the Lolos pulled pork sandwich which should have come with a bbq sauce on it but didn't. No problem, add your own! He liked the burbling sauce due to the sweetness. Mac and cheese was Luke warm and very average but those bbq baked beans are delish! Also luke warm but great flavor. We did come at 2p so likely things were sitting around which is why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. Had the meal been hot, five stars for sure. Lastly the sweet tea is sweeeeeet! I'm not normally one to leave a negative review but todays visit was not very good. This location must have been understaffed. It took extremely long to receive my food this evening. As I entered, there was a line of customers waiting to receive their food. Once I finally got my food, the order was missing an item. Luckily the manager corrected the issue and got my missing fries. As I got home and began to eat my food, I noticed the fries were extremely cold. There is no way these fries were made within the last hour. They were colder than room temperature. My Nashville hot sandwich was also missing the coleslaw. I've visited many City Barbeque locations before and this outcome and very uncharacteristic. read more

The reason why we keep coming back here, the outstanding customer service. We came in later on a weekend for dinner. The place was busier than normal so we had to wait a bit. The staff apologized for the wait and gave us chocolate cake. They also gave us more sides as the sides we got with our meal were not that full considering we upgraded it to the pint sized. read more
