The reviews I am seeing under this amazing establishment are shocking. Especially calling the food mediocre. Now there is one review before they switched to beef tallow and grass fed and finished beef so that one could be true for the time it was. But nowadays, Steak 'n Shake is gosh darn amazing for the taste buds. Maybe these individuals went here and ordered a plain burger and thought it would be out of this world. I want to speak for the garlic burger (aka the greatest burger there has ever been), the fries, the frisco burger, the shakes, and the cheese sauce. If you want your taste buds to explode with pure amazingness simply walk in and order a double garlic burger with fries and you will feel more satisfaction than you did when you got your first killing spree in Halo. This specific one has great workers who get your order to you promptly and correctly. If anything is ever missing they will gladly fix it for you in a heart beat. I have personally witnessed management take orders to people who happen to be older that are hard hearing and can not hear their name or number be called and have full blown conversations with them making sure they are laughing and having a good time while there. Also I bought the beef tallow they sell for the house and I use it for everything. It is a worlds difference when you use something actually natural and healthy to cook with. Where I grew up, I did not have this restaurant close to me. I now go here and only here for when I want fast food thanks to the healthy changes they have made throughout the years. Went here last night and was served this raw breaded chicken. It was hot to the touch on the outside, but cold on the inside. When we showed this to the manager on duty, he said it was impossible because all their food is pre-cooked and is never sent to them raw. I don't know about that - but I do know what raw, uncooked chicken looks like. Thankfully we spit out the chicken before eating it, but they refused to give us a refund because they said there was nothing wrong with the meal. I posted this on Hip Hendersonville on Facebook and had multiple people comment about undercooked or raw food from this location. Until they can decide whether or not they cook or just reheat their meats, I'd avoid them all together. read more

I went to this location to get lunch and they were not busy. Two people who ordered after me that were still ordering when my order was complete got their food before me which didn't sit well. To add salt to the wound, the fries were cold and the burger had way too much salt. I couldn't even eat it. The staff was not friendly at all and I'm not sure why this location even stays open as this is not the first time their overall experience has been horrible. read more

I haven't been to a Steak n Shake since pre-covid; never remember anything bad, I just forget they're there, sort of par of the landscape. Tonight I decided to go by for dinner. The burger was good, really like the fries in the tallow. But it's like a parody of a twilight zone episode: kiosk to order/ no humans; get drinks and sit all on your own/no humans; a human calls your number and quickly disappears; clean up your table and leave. I miss the 50's diner, that goofy high school kid that might screw up an order sometimes, small talk from the server. It was just an automated mediocre burger in a boring restaurant. No atmosphere at all. And when your food is just "as good as___," that's no reason to go back. I know it's hard to get good people to work, but this model sucks for long term business. I don't recommend it at all. Yesterday I went to lunch with my family and got confused and put cheese on my granddaughter's fries. I asked Jason if they could replace them. He went to get the receipt and said, "You put cheese on them." He shoved it in my face. I told him I was confused, but I didn't want cheese. He shoved it in my face until I said, "Are you going to replace it or not?" and they replaced it. This location is extremely greedy. If you ask for a small water, you're charged. They will only allow a tiny child's cup. The chili five way is an extremely small portion for the price. They don't want to give condiments and the customer service is dreadful. I don't think I have ever been thanked or greeted in a friendly manner. I will never go back. This 5-star rating doesn't mean it's the best burger place or has the best atmosphere. I'm giving 5-stars for four reasons that warrant the high rating. First, the food tastes very good. They have diner-style burgers with the crispy edges, which are as good as any other similar style burger in middle Tennessee. We don't have an In 'N Out here, otherwise I would not be making that comment. Second, Steak 'n Shake has the best prices/value in the area. Where can you go for a double cheeseburger and fries for $4? A McD's quarter pounder with cheese costs this much alone (and doesn't taste as good). Third, food looks like the pictures. You get what's advertised. In other words, the presentation is appealing. In 'N Out and Shake Shack also match this up well. But most places do not. Fourth, the restaurant is clean. For me, ratings aren't only about the food. There are some places I love that have great tasting food, but the building is in need of repairs, or is dirty. Maybe the food is great, but they're expensive. Again, I'm not saying Steak 'n Shake has the greatest burger in the world. They don't, but it is delicious and a great price. I like the burger as much as Shake Shack, but I'll take Steak 'n Shake every time because of price. Shake Shack will cost you 3 to 4 times as much (see my review of them). In summary, go to the Hendersonville Steak 'n Shake if you want a really good tasting diner-style burger (that also looks good) for a really good price, and want to eat it in a clean restaurant. The only complaint I have is the bathroom, which smells terrible. Use the bathroom at home before going and you'll be completely satisfied. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch. You have to place your order through the kiosks and there is no one to assist, so you have to change it there as that's how they'll make it. There's only a couple people working and they are the cooks. The dining area is not clean and the bathroom was filthy. The food was hot, so there is that. read more

Walled in to the restaurant, 3 tables of people in booths. Sat at the counter. Watched the cook push out 6 drive thru orders. Watched the staff do their side work. Watched them clean tables, stock cups, napkins, straws, ect.. walked out 10 minutes later. Maybe I had my cloaking device activated, but damn.. either i must have been invisible,or the side work is far more important than even acknowledging a customer.. My family ordered food in the drive-thru, but as we got home we noticed that there was a fly cooked in the bread of one of our burgers. When we took the sandwich back, the manager responded by asking, "Well, was it a little or a big fly?"-- as if the size mattered. They refunded our money, but our appetite was definitely lost. I do part time delivery. This is one of the absolute worst restaurants to order food from or pick up food from. When I pick up food from this restaurant, it takes an average 20 to 15 minutes waiting in the Carline. This is unacceptable. I do delivery from any other restaurants and none of them have this problem. Whoever is running this should be replaced as far as management and getting the cars moving and organize. Are usually don't like to complain, but beware, and if one of management is reading this. Ordered online said it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I went in to pick it up when it was supposed to be ready. Myself and others waiting to pay waited and waited, finally someone came over and took care everyone. I told her I was waiting for an online order...I continued to wait and wait, finally she came with my food, they were out of the applesauce for my kids so I waited even long for fries. Then I had to wait on a third milkshake. Finally it was done and just sitting back in the kitchen area. meanwhile the lobby is packed full of people waiting to pay or be seated. 5 stars for Sierra! We are regulars at the drive-thru here and probably eat here way more than we should. We came tonight and Sierra took our order (according to our receipt - hope it's right!) and was SO NICE and genuinely happy to be at work. You don't see that very often anymore. Part of our order was wrong because they changed the menu but she fixed it and was super sweet and accommodating. Her upbeat attitude had us smiling and talking about how sweet she was as we drove away. We have never had a bad experience here but she raised the bar anyway! Needed a quick bite to eat around midnight, and at that time choices are limited. I've heard good things about the "late night" food at Steak N Shake, so I thought I would give it a chance. The crowd was what you would expect for midnight on a Saturday -- lots of high school kids hanging out in the parking lot (and barely avoiding hitting each other with their cars) and high schoolers and pre-21 kids in the restaurant. I got seated quickly (as there were lots of tables) but the guy who seated me didn't let the waitress know, so it took a bit for her to come get my drink order. Also, the table on the booth had been wiped down with all the crumbs going on to the seat, so I had to dust off my own seat before I sat down. I ordered the mini-sliders and I really wanted cheddar instead of American, but she told me that they don't actually have actual cheddar cheese just "cheddar cheese sauce". I stuck with the American cheese. The reason I'm giving this two stars is my entire meal one of the guys that was supposed to be working (had his uniform on and even had the drive-thru headset slung around his neck) and three of his friends sat in the booth in front of mine and talked very loudly about digestive problems eating food at Steak N Shake had caused them in the past using appropriately graphic terms. It was a bit disturbing. When I went to go pay my bill I asked to see the manager and waited a few minutes for her to come from "in back". I didn't ask, but I assumed she might credit my bill given that one of her employees was one of the people having the rude conversation. Unfortunately, she didn't. She did apologize. read more

This place is hands down the best restaurant in town. The prices are unbelievable, the portions bountiful, and the service is friendly and personable every time. Best of all, at checkout my fabulous waitress brought me a "to go" container of Java without my asking! The cashier asked me if I had coupons without me mentioning it. Nice! Terrible service. My order came with the wrong fries--I ordered Cajun and received the traditional. We ordered a milk shake and when it didn't come with the meal we gave them time thinking they were making it and would bring it when it was ready. Our server never came back. We stopped another server and asked and she went to get our milk shake and never came back either. We did see her again walking around but she purposefully avoided eye contact with us and after waiting 10 minutes after completing our meal and never seeing a server, manager, or receiving the rest of our order we left. I had the guy at the register remove the items we didn't receive from the order. I saw the receipt asked for you to leave feedback so I went to the website to do so; the link doesn't work from any computer I tried for email comments. So I called the number (1-877-STKNSHK) and the woman taking my comments got my name wrong after I reiterated it several times, didn't summarize my complaint matching what I had just told her as she read it back to me, and when I saw my email summary from corporate Steak and Shake there was nothing in it regarding customer service, no coupons, just a "thanks for letting us know" generality. I never call to leave negative feedback on anything; I know jobs in the service sector can be terrible and I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. In my call I stressed that the server was not rude or bad, just that we never saw her again. I would blame this on management as it wasn't busy yet nothing seemed to be getting done. I was not satisfied with how corporate handled this issue either. I just read that the board and company as a whole is struggling so I suspect systemic mismanagement of the entire company, especially coupled with the other scathing reviews here. I honestly don't know where all the bad reviews are coming from. I ordered steakburger shooters, garlic. Waiter greeted us nicely. One of the people I was dining with spilled their drink. Waiter was generous. We were given napkins - a lot of napkins. Everything - the atmosphere, cleanliness, food, and service earns five stars. The burgers were good. Three mini burgers with the beef patty, cheese, and sauce on the bottom. What took away the one star was the burger buns, which of course I ordered a buttery garlic burger, but they were loaded- I mean loaded- with butter. Luckily they went a little bit easier on the garlic, though. :) But other than that, this place doesn't need all the one and two stars. It earns five. But if you order a garlic burger, ask for light garlic/butter. read more

The knocks I have on the place are that it took a long time together our food ordered (but it came out fast). The food portions were smaller than desired, too.
