This is one of those places that really makes you wish that 0 stars (or even negative stars) was an option. Of all the Steak 'n Shake locations I've visited over the years on multiple states, this location was THE absolute worst service of any of them. A group of 11 us walked in at around 9:25 this evening, and when we saw the look of derision on the shift manager's face, that should have been the first sign that it would've been best to turn around and walk out. There were 3 people seated in the restaurant, but yet every other table was dirty. We were told that they would seat us when they cleaned off some tables. The second sign that this place was bad was when they didn't bother to use the usual plastic bin to bus the tables. Nope, that would have been far too pedestrian. Instead, two of the employees (there were many others who were standing around, which will be discussed in sign three) thought it would be far more efficient to carry two or three glasses at a time. While these two employees are moving at a snail's pace, the shift manager and what appeared to be a cook stood in the cash register area chatting something about Murfreesboro as the shift manager continued to look totally disgusted by our presence. We were all a bit perplexed as to why the shift manager didn't seem motivated enough to go out and help her staff clean off the numerous dirty tables in the dining room or why she didn't see fit to tell the other employees (who were standing around and talking about some cute boy while watching the other two bus the tables two or three glasses at a time) to get busy and help. After standing there for 20+ minutes, our group decided to take our business elsewhere, and only after we began walking out did anyone bother to speak to us. Was sat at a dirty table. I asked for napkins to clean it up myself which never came. Waited for quite a while after being seated to even get drinks. Cold fries and a mediocre burger topped if off. Waited at the counter to pay for over 10 minutes and no one even said anything to me let alone actually came to take my money. I always come for breakfast and it's always a great experience! Nowhere else can you get a plate of fresh made real eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes for $5 plus coffee...and their pancakes are better than iHops, although simpler and not so many varieties. I don't know when all these other reviewers have gone to this location but breakfast is consistently good. I do they and avoid peak hours anywhere as a general rule, but this place is best for breakfast on a budget. read more

We stopped here as it was the only thing really open. My wife did warn me of the 2 star rating it already had but we were hungry! There were about 12 people total across 6 tables there already. We sat in our double table for about 20 minutes before 1 of the 4 workers came to our table to put menus down. He apologized each time he came by the table. Water and took our order at the 30 minute mark. Food was at 45 minutes and I didn't get the milkshake I ordered. I made mention of the service and lack if order filled at the cash register. She removed the cost of the shake and made it for me real quick. I thanked her and left. This place is a constant disaster. I have came to this location a couple times and not one time has it given any hope that they want to accomplish something good. Service is dissappointing and slow. I'm here right now and this is ridiculous. The girl who greeted us loudly shouted to another server that she was clocked out and he complained about coming to seat us. It took over 15 minutes for a milkshake and then once given shakes, our server walked away without taking food orders at all. We've now been waiting for half an hour after the eventual food order, and a man seated behind us has been waiting close to an hour. A girl who isn't employed by steak and shake (no uniform, stated out loud she doesn't work here) is seating people and taking orders and walking in and out of the kitchen. She said audibly to our server that as long as he "threw her a couple of bucks" it would be fine. This is a madhouse and it is like this every time I come here. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a fast food restaurant. During the covid19 pandimic the drive thru is the only way to get an order. After we ordered our food we were told to pull up to the parking lot in a numbered slot, so I did. Fifteen minutes later I called the manager to find out what was going on with our order, she said it would be right out. Another ten minutes pass and one of the staff brings out our order and it was stone cold. So at this point I decided to go in and ask for a refund. It took another ten minutes to get a refund. I noticed when I was in the restaurant only one person was wearing a mask and gloves, the other 3 employees had either only a mask or only gloves doing the order filling and cooking. I waited 25 minutes for one burger! That's all just a single burger no drink, shake, or even fries! Absolutely ridiculous and the staff offered no reason for why everyone who came in after me with multiple people had already got there food or anything! And as if that's not enough when I asked them where my food was or how much longer it would be I was just told we are working on it. Then after another 5 minutes they asked what my name was. Terrible management. Always under staffed which means the waiter is doing checkout at the cash register, while customers food sits and gets cold. Coffee cups stay empty or requests have to wait and wait. This means the service over all is terrible. There are a few really great waiters there but they can't properly do their job because management understaffs. We quit going there and won't go back. I'm sure the waitresses miss the good tips from me because I tipped very well and ate there often. But no more. Place was clean and had the diner feel, which it is so check. The staff was nice, but when it got busy at all it seemed that service was a little lost (my order was wrong, we got the check as they delivered our food without asking us if we even wanted their signature shakes, and it seemed to take a while to get anything out to us). I really liked the food I got though. The sliders and fries were scrumptious and the shakes are too. Overall, good but not great. Stay away! This is the worst Steak'n Shake that I have ever visited. They don't appear understaffed, but the tables were dirty when we walked in and the service is the slowest. I had to ask three times for a refill and after a long wait our server informed us that he did not place our order. And of course my order was wrong!! Our server did bring me a large fry while my burger was being corrected, but they were room temperature and tasteless. I will not return here. I keep giving this place a chance because I like Steak n Shake. But this location continues to disappoint. The service is the absolute worst. Horribly slow, lack common courtesy and void of any restaurant server skills. The management must be asleep in the back office to not see how terrible the service is. The food is poor to fair depending on the cook I would assume. So if you've got thirty minutes to wait just to get your drink order then go in and have a seat. Oh yeah and expect to see dirty tables with dishes that haven't been picked up all around you. Apparently they only clean tables when they need them. But between the wait times at the door (with no one else waiting), and the time it takes to get drinks and orders...The time spent going to eat here is not worth it. My first visit to Steak and Shake ever,, It was AWESOME starting with Devin when we walked in, he was so polite and welcoming. I met my daughter, son-inlaw and two gransons 3&5 there, my other granson 8, gran-daughter and her friend 16 came with me.. Party of eight and we were treated like individuals.. The children were treated well, so family friendly place to eat. The food was So Good. Holly our waitress was very good.. I love a good diner burger, but the distinction of this place is in how terrible the service is. It felt dirty and unkept. Staff was wandering around but no one seemed to be helping any customers. Terrible experience! Beside the wait time for everything (getting seated, being greeted, ordering, getting our food and even paying the bill) we had to listen to the servers fight while they were getting drinks for customers. Not to mention we had to go get our own napkins and several tables had empty condiment bottles so we had to hunt for them at other tables. My 2 year old don't even get all of her food and no one was around to ask. Went to pay the bill and I mentioned the lack of food, serve and respect for people and the manager (Ryan) decided to be rude and yell causing people waiting in line to leave! He told me to "not come back" while yelling and making my 2 year old cry. I had to stand there while he was yelling so that I could get my change back from the money I paid!
